Do you remember those family Italian restaurants in the 1970's that had the red and white checkered vinyl tablecloths, the wicker-and-glass decanter of Chianti, the shakers of Parmesan and red pepper flakes at the table, and super friendly staff that knew everyone by name, and the dining room was loud and fun and local?
Well Biagio's is that place. The time machine of life has thankfully not messed with this place, and it's been a local family-run gem for decades now.
Let's talk food: there are a few stars here. First, their red marinara and red meat sauces are TO DIE FOR, to use the tired cliche. But they really are. The ravioli will send you to comfort food heaven, harking back to the best homemade raviolis you've ever eaten. Same with the spaghetti and meat sauce: it's simply fantastic and just like your Italian mom would make. Oh and the meatballs!!!!!!
Ok, the chicken Parmesan is among the best I've had. Moist, great flavor, perfect breading, just the right amount of cheese, and smothered in their beautiful marinara over spaghetti. It's super traditional and super good. And really fresh every time. No burned leather chicken park here. If I had to make a suggestion, it would be to serve a liiitle more spaghetti with it. It's a teeny bit sparse.
The chicken Marsala and piccata are just ok in my opinion. The star performer here is their red sauce.
Ok, if you do nothing else, order a salad with their homemade, house creamy garlic dressing. HOLY cow. I could drink it morning noon and night. If you like garlic, order it. It's like the best ranch you've ever tasted, combined with a garlicky, fresh, sharp boost that will send shivers through your taste buds, its that good.
Fettuccini Alfredo is really creamy and good. Pizzas are all top notch. Really nothing bad here. Everything is tasty and fresh and happy.
Italian restaurants in Southern California have all gone high faluutin'-it's bizarre. Suddenly you can't just go to a local Italian joint. Everything has to be "braised oysters with port wine reduction," and "zucchini blossoms in a garlic- glaze with portobello hollandaise" and crap like that. I sooooo miss my local, family Italian joint with good meatball subs, pizza, great spaghetti and a solid chicken parm. Even their bread is warm and fresh. No olive oil and balsamic boringness here.
Come Here if you want some good old fashioned Americanized Italian food like mamma would make. The prices are not cheap. I'd say they're a liiiiittle steep but totally fair for post-Covid 2021. These days, restaurants are dying, Some I'm good with it. Biagio's is unpretentious and great. Can't go wrong.
