I’m impressed with this building. When you look at the insignia on the wall, and see how many famous historic family was taken the knowledge here.

We visited the anatomical theatre and the library. We had booked and paid for tickets to the theatre but never received the tickets online. We explained this to the receptionist who initially just wanted to shoosh us away. She was not a great representative of the museum I then asked her if i could show her the email confirming our booking she just tore off two tickets and handed them to us as if we were a massive inconvenience. I had to stifle a laugh when we walked away. We were stubborn in wanting to get in because once you do it is a fascinating building and the library is fantastic and goes on forever. The extra star taken off was for the grumpy lady on reception but the building itself is fantastic.

The Archiginnasio in Bologna is absolutely worth visiting. It was once the main building of the University of Bologna, the oldest university in Europe, and you can really feel the history inside. The walls are covered with thousands of coats of arms from students and professors, which makes the place feel alive with the memory of centuries of study. The highlight is the Anatomical Theatre, where medical students once learned about the human body. The wooden carvings and statues are incredible and give you a real sense of how advanced the university was for its time. You don’t need much time to visit, but it leaves a lasting impression. If you’re in Bologna, I highly recommend it.

The Biblioteca Comunale dell’Archiginnasio feels like a hidden sanctuary for lovers of history, books, and silence. Tucked within the grand halls of the former university, it’s easy to miss unless you’re looking for it, but it’s absolutely worth finding. The atmosphere inside is hushed and reverent, with vaulted ceilings, long wooden tables, and the weight of centuries pressing softly around you. Though access is limited to preserve the space, just stepping into the entrance area and seeing the historic reading rooms beyond is enough to appreciate its significance. Housing over 850,000 volumes, the library continues Bologna’s centuries-old tradition of scholarship. It’s not a tourist stop in the usual sense, but if you love old books, scholarly quiet, and timeless architecture, this place will feel like a secret well kept.

Very beautiful place, it's 3€ to enter the library and the anatomical theater. Both rooms are very interesting and even the halls connecting them have beautiful paintings on the walls. Also check out the garden first before heading up stairs. I recommend scanning the Qr code for the audio tour, it gives you just a little bit more knowledge about the place. If you don't have earphones or something with you, you can still scan it because they also have everything written down. I didn't buy my tickets in advance and the wait wasn't too bad but I'd still recommend buying them in advance to make it easier for yourself.

The whole place is worth visiting, from the 16th century library, to the anatomy theatre, and the whole complex of the Archiginnasio is a something that eery tourist must see in Bologna. The library and it has one of the biggest collections of books and manuscripts in the whole of Italy. The walls of the library, corridors, halls and staircases are covered in thousands of crests which students all over Europe who studied there have left their family crest as a souvenir. I recommend that you purchase tickets before you visit as is a very tourist attraction and a very good price at 3 euros for the library and the anatomy theatre.

Amazing historical place giving an insight into teaching in the 16th century and after. Interesting to see all the coats of arms of those considered to be important who studied here in the past. Although you can't go in the library you can get a glimpse of it through one door, amazing!

We came to see the anatomical theatre and library and how it was used. It was a great building with a lot of history. Everywhere the walls are covered in thousands of crests where students from all over came to study. The library has one of the biggest collections of books and manuscripts in Italy. This is a wonderful place to visit in Bologna. Recommended to purchase tickets before you visit as it is busy and tickets are times entry.
