Bibliothèque Schœlcher

I read about this online as something to come take a look at while walking around Fort de France. It is known for its unique architecture on the outside. You can walk in it, but there isn’t really anything else super remarkable in there. It is great for a shade break though. Its really just about taking a picture of the outside.

Interesting old library, still functions as an actual library. All the old books were inaccessable on the second level. Worth a quick walk around if you are passing by.

The Bibliothèque Schœlcher is a stunning landmark with its colorful façade and unique design, shipped piece by piece from Paris in the 19th century. Inside, the architecture is just as impressive. Located in the city center, it’s worth a quick visit while exploring Fort-de-France.

Beautiful architecture but it’s made in a way that you cannot really fully appreciate it. You cannot go up to check the old books, at least not when I was there.

It's OK. The interesting room is extremely hot. I'm surprised the books aren't protected better. Even their oldest is receiving sunlight and humidity. We wandered into the "real" library and were immediately told that they were closing even though they had only been open an hour. Obviously, we were not welcome. You can take a virtual tour on their website and skip the hype. Go through the unmarked gate to the electric door. Nothing is marked but, if you choose to go, you'll find the gate. It's unlocked when they're open.

It is gorgeous inside and outside! Unfortunately I didn't have time to look around much because they were closing it up for lunch, it was about 1pm. At least it was one of the few places open on Sunday!

Beautiful historic library, a must see given its liberation story. They showcase beautiful art exhibitions on the centre space too.

It's free to get in and should be as there is not much to see. Old historic library that is of some significance. Needs some funding to give this place a facelift. Worth a few minutes to pop in.
