Bientang's Cave Restaurant & Wine Bar

Bientangs is such a lovely venue but the elderly/mobility challenged would not be able to visit this spot. To reach it you must go down very steep thousand steps to reach the restaurant and leaving is a hectic work out uphill. The signature dishes are average, cocktail prices a bit yikes. The views are stunning, but I honestly won't return. Its a nice experience but the food is not memorable. May be its better suited if you want the atmosphere for a proposal or to do a photoshoot, but the overall experience was not value. I expected a more flavoursome meal & better portions. We literally sat on the rocks having our meal (bonus).

Sat there for about 3 hours having some of the most fantastic food I have ever had while watching the whales breach. The staff recommended the best wine with the meal I ordered and the atmosphere was absolutely impeccable. I will go back every single time I'm in the Cape without fail. I went there for the first time during a troubled time in my life and the friendly staff and amazing feel helped just that little bit extra

I was very excited to experience this cave restaurant and its awesome views. Food - Not alot of options on the menu. We kept in easy and simple with a hake and chips and a beef burger. Both our items were good. Prices are on the higher side. Service - Friendly helpful staff, not much to say here. Good job. Atmosphere - Amazing view. Bench seats are uncomfortable but practical. The stairs on the way down with test your knees and ankles. Beware.😅 I will not return but was a good experience for us and recommend for others.

A must experience if you are visiting Hermanus . You have to make a reservation as they get fully booked quickly, especially during the peak summer months . This is a tourist place , so the prices are high for us locals . Starters begin at R180 ..upwards for example. You can sit up in the cave ...or on the rocks itself right next to the ocean . Tables are spread from each other so you have peace and quiet to just listen to the ocean waves . Be warned ⚠️ wear comfy shoes , there are 51 steps going down a steep incline ..that is the only way to the restaurant no short cuts unfortunately . It does get windy ..you are right on the ocean after all , so do take a jacket with in case . I had the cape malay sea food potjie was served with rice and poppoddum, price R265 served in a little potjie pot. It was delicious, it was not hot spicy but had flavor , which is rare these days when people serve their version of curry , friends had the chicken and prawn potjie R265 and the battered hake with veg ..the battered hake was R175 ..also nicely prepared , crisp tempura batter on it not oily at all . Service was friendly and efficient . I have to take my hat off tk the waiters who have to walk up and down those steps constantly to serve us . Overall a lovely experience..especially for a special occasion ..I would think even a great venue to have an intimate beach side wedding.

Beautiful location on the shore of Hermanus. We had a lite vegetarian lunch. Very balanced, ordered some extra bread with our salads, no extra charge. People are very helpful and kind. Would recommend this if you are in the neighborhood.

The amazing location of the restaurant situated in a cave located next to the cove made Bientang's Cave restaurant absolutely unforgettable. They were fortunately able to seat out entire group including our late comers. For vegetarian food there weren't many options, I opted for the burata salad and a bar one milkshake. Though they listed many exciting flavours on their menu, they were only able to offer me 3 options. The food was ready relative quickly and was fresh and flavourful and the milkshake was thick and creamy. Overall a decent meal and though it was slightly pricey the view and proximity to the whales was well worth it. Our server was decent and helpful as were as the rest of staff at the at the restaurant. Definitely a must visit, in my opinion, even if it's just for a drink.

A spectacular meal with friendly, professional service. We 3 of us had fish entrees, and one had a very tasty pork dish. Gorgeous views! One of the best settings in Hermanus for lunch or dinner. All of us would highly recommend.

Stunning! I don’t think you could eat at a more beautiful spot with a more gorgeous view in Hermanus than this. The restaurant is built into a seaside cave with tables alongside the ocean and little Dassies hiding in the rocks. The service from our waitress Lauren was exceptional, as she shared stories of Twiggy, the stick insect and ensured we were well fed and our glasses full. It is a bit of a walk down, via some steps so not the most accessible for those with limited mobility but well worth the visit.
