The hotel is so beautiful and in a great location! Valet parking was good enough. But the service could be improved, when we checked in we were given the wrong room number/key so we ended up in a room that was already occupied, luckily no one was in the room when we went inside. I was expecting the front desk staff to be more friendly than what they are…

We had a wonderful experience at the Bienville House! The location is absolutely perfect, making it easy to explore the best of New Orleans on foot. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. A special shoutout to Cynthia, who went above and beyond with her warm hospitality. She always greeted us with a smile and gave fantastic recommendations that made our trip even more memorable. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for comfort, charm, and top-notch service in a prime location.

Everything was really nice and clean. All the staff were friendly and went out their way to assist you with whatever you needed. I give my room 4 stars only because it would have been nice to have had a microwave. Their location is simply marvelous and everyone offers great suggestions to help make your stay even more enjoyable. I ❤️ Ms Cynthia, she is just the absolute sweetheart and true asset. You can't beat the value for the price...please check them out.

I stayed in this lovely hotel June 17 to June 20. It was perfect, making reservations, finding the hotel, check in were all painless. Valet took good care of my car, saw my luggage to the room and was very helpful. Any request such as directions or recommendations were taken care of pleasantly and promptly! I hope I get another to chance to visit. Thank you Bienville staff. Thanks New Orleans for being a welcoming city!

Loved our stay here. We came for the weekend. This hotel is located in the perfect spot walking distance to bourbon st, canal st. and all great restaurants. We stayed here for the UFC fight located at smoothie king also a short ride from here we decided to walk about 20 min not bad. The hotel was clean, and so cute! It gives boutique hotel vibes. Not to mention their patio and pool, loved it so cute!

This was a lovely place to stay for a long weekend getaway. I’m surprised that more people haven’t mentioned the wildly aesthetic pool—it’s so beautiful. I think you could swim here and imagine yourself in a Victorian novel. After wandering the streets of the French Quarter all day, I was especially grateful that they put out cookies and water in the afternoon. The staff were amazingly hospitable, knowledgeable and friendly and will give terrific recommendations. We were there at the end of May and it was already pretty hot so luckily the AC works great! My only comment is that the elevator is pretty snug and takes a while, but hopefully you’re on vacation and don’t mind waiting an extra few minutes.

We were visiting from England and we had a lovely stay at Bienville House, New Orleans. The room was lovely with a four poster bed, plenty of space, an excellent, spacious bathroom and a nice open view over towards the river. Staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel is situated in the French Quarter, so all sights were in easy walking distance. We highly recommend the Bienville.

Ms. Cynthia was a blessing to my sister and I during our stay in NOLA. She alone would be the reason I recommend this place to anyone but of course I would like to add the attentiveness of the staff was above and beyond. When I checked in they already knew my room was ready without looking in the system and I was able to check in as soon as I got there. I was always greeted by my last name and treated with nothing but respect the whole time. The double room with outdoor space was perfect for the two of us! The location of the hotel in the French Quarter was optimal… all the landmarks, restaurants, Bourbon street, etc was under a 10 minute walk. My trip to NOLA was one I will never forget and a big part was to this hotel.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, room was nice the only thing husband shaken care for was elevator and across from Fire station. Great tiki bar down stairs nice staff add well rooms were clean and comfortable. Superb location parking was available even for a large 2500 truck parking cost 44.00 a day. They do have a pool and some rooms come with balcony's. Also dog friendly. So kind to our pup

Yelp
As historic boutique hotels go, Bienville House has great qualities and a couple of caveats. The location can hardly be beat, just a few blocks from Jackson's Square. However, with that, you also get all the traffic and accompanying noise right outside your window until around 11 p.m. The interior of the hotel is quaint, cozy and clean. The staff is as friendly as can be; always greeting you as you come in and wishing you well as you walk out. You can come downstairs for fresh coffee every morning, but breakfast will have to be somewhere else (and most places don't open until 8 a.m.). There are a couple cafes and coffee shots that open at 7, but none within a couple block's walk. The room I stayed in, the Deluxe King, is roomy enough, very clean with a comfortable bed and a safe for your valuables inside the closet. There's a mini fridge inside the oversized dresser and a sitting chair in the corner. There was no table to eat at, other than the desk. So, if two people are staying in the room, best eat out (which is always the way to go in this city). Okay, here's the flip side. The walls are thin and the ceiling seemed to amplify the auditions of Riverdance above me - that also went on past 10 p.m. Yes, I should've called down and complain, but the Tylenol and Melatonin "cocktail" I would take in the evenings were sufficient to knock me out. Also, water pressure (especially on the 3rd floor) is weak, at best. There is a rain shower head above but, overall, it barely does the job. The elevator is old and slow. If you're in a hurry, take the stairs. I didn't get a chance to try the adjoining cafe/restaurant/bar but, from the activity I saw, it looks like a good place for a drink or a bite. There are LOTS of good choices for dining very close by so you won't go hungry, for sure. Prices are .... well, let's face it .... you're in the heart of the French Quarter. You're going to pay for that privilege. Had it not been for the decent group rate I got for attending an event, I might try looking at someplace else. But, if "historic chic" is what you're after, the Bienville House delivers.

Yelp
This was a very odd hotel. I booked it through the preferred hotels website. I'd previously stayed at the Virgin in New Orleans and had also found it through Preferred Hotels. And the Virgin was really lovely and I got a great price, so I thought Bienville House would also be nice. I did my research and saw many good reviews. I did know the hotel was old but I don't think I really understood what that meant. The strange thing is that the rooms themselves are nice. Bathrooms are renovated. The rooms felt clean if dated. But the hotel itself is just in very bad shape. I know it's old, but the elevator is filthy. The hallways have stains. The lock on the first room I was put in didn't work and I only noticed by accident that anyone could have just walked into my room. The room I was moved to was better because it was quieter. But also little things are odd like that the doors to the rooms have small openings at the tops and bottoms. This lets in noise (I put a towel at the bottom of the door) but more than that it feels odd--like anyone could just hear you in your room walking by. When the elevator had a big line I asked where the stairs were and was directed three times to "take a right and then a left and through the double doors." I was confused because the hotel is connected to a restaurant. And the kitchen was a typical well worn restaurant kitchen so apparently the only way to take the stairs was walk into a grubby kitchen? The temperature was also hard to adjust. I was either too hot or too cold all night, and the water pressure was weak. I felt bad for the agent at the front desk because she was obviously very tired. But I was just kind of grossed out by the hotel. They said I might have to pay a 75 dollar fee for leaving early but waived it. On the plus side, the location is very good although a little noisy. Not as noisy as I thought it might be. And the rooms themselves were clean with updated bathrooms. I decided to move to a Hampton inn, and I'm much happier here. I definitely would not stay at the bienville house again. Maybe if you love really old hotels and don't mind that they are grubby you would like it? I don't mind old, but I still want renovated and nice inside. (I did not see the pool or courtyard so I can't comment on that.)

Yelp
Had a lovely stay at the Bienville House Hotel. Like others have said, the personal touch from staff was what made it really special. Beautiful rooms but the bed was squeaky and I prefer both mattress and pillows much firmer. Like others have also said, it was also noisy- thin walls I think. I heard every step and door of our neighbors above and next door- and I'm not a light sleeper. Bring ear plugs and you'll be fine. Location was perfect, very walkable to anywhere in the quarter but without much of the noise and chaos. Hotel courtyard with pool was beautiful. Would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Lots of big pluses, but nothing that would make Bienville House better than a 3-star hotel. Downside: Rooms are weathered, halls are seriously dated, and lobby area needs refreshed. Upside: Staff is excellent and bathrooms are fancy.

Yelp
I really liked this hotel. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff was wonderful and answered any questions I had. If I had to pick something I didn't like, it would be the elevator, but it's an old building, so I let that slide. This hotel was well kept and in a great area. I didn't eat at the restaurant or the bar. I was able to walk or catch a street car nearby. I would stay here again.

Yelp
Update as of check out: I once again asked for a fan due to the room temperature, this time I was met with a very friendly receptionist that had the fan up in 3 minutes. Also while checking out the informed me they would be comping part of our trip due to inconvenience and the receptionist was very nice and apologetic. The whole experience was overall neutral but I'm glad that they addressed the issues and made an attempt to fix it. Rating changed from 1 star to 3. PROS -Rooms are clean and kept up by staff daily. -Bathrooms are modern but as many others have said there's very low water pressure. -Beds are EXTREMELY comfortable -Location is great, others complained about loud music all night, we didn't experience that at all. Only other bad was the pool, it's filthy and not very well maintained. Don't come expecting to use it. We've been to New Orleans a dozen times, we've stayed at some of the smallest hotels, all the way to the larger chains, this was by far the worst stay we've ever had. It was quite literally 1 thing after another. After initially booking us in the wrong room they blew up my phone while I was out on the town all evening. They then forced us to pack up and move on the second day of our trip, offering no compensation or even apology for their complete screw up. (I was offered to receive a call from the manager that I initially ignored). On day 3 of our trip we called to request a fan because the room they moved us to doesn't allow you to turn the thermostat below 71° which is unacceptable sleeping temperature for me, so I called down and requested a fan and was told "I'm by myself I can't get it". This place is a complete fail and we will most definitely NOT be staying here ever again! Unfortunately we still have 1 more day of this trash place. GARBAGE!

Yelp
And we were back to visit this gracious southern lady of a hotel. The friendly staff greeted us upon our return from each adventure in the Crescent City. Beds are comfy, and the bathroom spacious. As you can see, I backed down the stars to 4. The reason for this is the ceiling and fixtures need a serious dusting. Someone with allergies would struggle here.

Yelp
I was in a wedding and we stayed here for about 5 days because it was suggested by the Bride & Groom. Most of the hotel was filled with my friend's guests and family and we basically took all the rooms. When we first checked in and tried to freshen up from our long trip the water in the showers had absolutely no water pressure. The handheld faucet would literally trickle and if head was upside down would not even come through. Trying to wash out extremes amount of hair spray and make up after the wedding took about an hour because there was no pressure not to mention the water heat ran out very quickly. Oh and the showers had no doors so besides barely being warm from the lack of water - the cold air from the lack of coverage did not help. Ok if that was the only issue I probably wouldn't be writing a review at all. There's more..the hotel bar/ restaurant staff were completely rude to us every time we came in. The first occurrence happened on day 1 when me, my husband and two friends came down to sit at the bar which had about 8-10 seats, 6 of which were completely open so we sat down and the bar tender very rudely said you guys cannot sit here together. We looked very confused and they said parties of 4 need to sit elsewhere. We asked if the two men could sit together and us girls could sit together separately if need be, 2 parties of two and he said no. Okayyyy so we checked in for a seat at a table (mind you we just wanted a quick drink not food) and when we asked the host she said there were no tables available when again, the restaurant was pretty slow. Now I can understand that if they are short staffed especially because my husband has been in the industry for years so we decided to just leave, we felt unwelcomed as it was BUT THE CHERRY on top that day was as we were walking out to leave the bar tender who had told us we couldn't sit at the bar yelled at us in a very high pitched mocking way "BYYYYYEEEEEEEEEE" (and I know you know exactly what I mean). Please keep in mind we were all sober, just flown in from a long flight and were completely understand and friendly and polite the entire time to the staff. NEXT...! On the day of the wedding-the elevator broke with two people in the bridal party in it. They were able to get them out quickly and safely but the elevator was practically down the entire stay we were there. Ok, stuff happens and I wouldn't have even mentioned but it was brought to my attention hotel manager told THE BRIDE that rented out this whole hotel practically (which the rooms were NOT CHEAP) that her big amount of guests and the over use at the hotel broke the elevator. WHAT?! I'm sorry, no. These are just big things that I feel need to be addressed I'm not even going into detail the fact that the hotel has NO WATER not even a working vending machine which is advertising water. There was a small ice water station in the lobby but don't over use that either or the front desk women will tell you you're taking too much. Last but definitely not only thing is my husband's pillow supplied on the bed was absolutely disgusting. It looked as if someone had barfed all over it and they never threw it away. Like you can't check and throw out pillows that are visibly stained?! I really hope you can understand-especially if you look at my previous reviews that I typically do not write bad ones as I think people are very fast to complain rather than appreciate or compliment but this could not go unsaid. Bienville- do better and customer reading- you could do much better !

Yelp
Common areas like the courtyard are beautiful and well maintained. The bathroom in our room was recently remodeled and great. Overall, it's a nice place to stay in a nice location. I just wish the carpet would be replaced; it's causing some not-so-nice scents.

Deb V.

Yelp
The pictures on the web site are deceiving. Hotel pool is closed/chained off. Elevator broke down while we were there and we had to take inconveniently placed service elevator. Elevator (when working) was dirty. Room very tired. Carpet torn up. Outdoor furniture had cushions removed. Steamboat ship whistle and train noise very close. Looks like old world charm, just old.

Yelp
Hotel is very clean. Lobby is small but cute with areas to sit in. Staff was very nice. The back courtyard is very nice, we sat there each morning with coffee. Didn't use the pool, though there was a family using it. There's a ?bar/restaurant attached to the hotel though we never tried it. A few issues... - Room did not have any windows. This was not made clear to us when we booked the room. I honestly don't think people would mind not having a window (especially if they're paying a lower rate), however I would have chosen a different room or possibly hotel knowing there was no window since I like to spend time relaxing at the hotel. - online noted complimentary breakfast which wasn't the case. They did have coffee.

Michael C.

Yelp
Room was unlocked when we returned to room! Worst front desk customer service rude every time we spoke with them, didn't care our room was left open and unlocked!! Don't feel safe in hotel and rude, hotel is in poor condition as well in need of repair. Doors misalign, elevator old, smoking on balcony, by pools and garage. Worst I Prefer hotel stayed at with staff that don't care at all.

Shar W.

Yelp
Absolutely everything about this hotel was wonderful, from the first phone call I made to inquire about some things up until we checked out. ALL of the staff were so sweet, caring, and made you feel like family. We got to early check our luggage and park our car, so we could go run around and do stuff, not worrying about if our stuff in our luggage was getting hot or anything. We didn't have to move our car the whole time we were there. Check in was fast, room we had (King) was very clean and spacious. it's convenient to everything such as the Aquarium, Jax Brewery, Jackson Square, Bourbon street, Cafe DuMond, French Market......you can catch the trolley, walk, grab a ride from the bike dudes (idk what they are called but they are on a 3 wheeled bike with 2 seats in the back for passengers) to get wherever you wanna go. I definitely recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Overall, this was a nice hotel to stay in. The lady who checked us in and was running the front desk most of the time (including during the parade) was very welcoming and helpful. The rooms were nice and we had a room that overlooked the fire station and the Irish bar. As well as an apartment with funny Halloween decorations. Our friend had a room with a balcony over the pool and some friendly guests across the way that used theirs a lot and we enjoyed chatting with them. We could have seen the parade from her balcony but chose to go down to the street. The pool was nice and chill and the very friendly restocking the towels let us know that we could use the pool also at their sister hotel but we never made it over there. But it was a chill place for midday but don't expect any food or drinks because their restaurant is non-existant. The Cons - - There is no continental breakfast (they say because of Covid) - There is no room service because of Covid but they said to just call if we needed it and/or needed anything - The one morning we did need our coffee and tea pods replenished and we called them to ask for more, the lady was not helpful at all and told us to come down to the lobby to get it. Sorry, but I'm in my pajamas which is why I was asking for someone to bring us some. Not going down to the lobby in my pj shorts and tank!! - Beware - there really was no restaurant. Sure, they have a sign at all the elevators that make the food look delicious but is never open (4 pm - 10 pm) and even then they wouldn't seat us and they weren't doing room service. This is no fault of the hotel because it's obviously run separately but should not appear to be the hotel restaurant because it's not and does nothing for the hotel guests (separate review coming for them) Also the hotel is walking distance to the french quarter and the hotel. Overall, I would stay here again but maybe once they have room service and continental breakfast back

Yelp
Our return visit to the Bienville House was as great as our first visit. Everything was just-right. Check in staff was gracious and the process was a breeze. The rooms were very clean (loved our little patio). The pool courtyard was nice for sipping morning coffee. We know the location quite well, so the walkability was a plus. Check out process was smooth. We didn't have a lot of bags or a car this time and we didn't go to the bar ... maybe next time. Thank you Bienville House.

Yelp
Poor service. If they promise you anything, make sure you get an email confirming the conversation! They will ruin a special event and smile!

Yelp
What a great hotel .. located in the French Quarter you are in walking distance to everything .. beautiful lobby area. Super nice staff at the front counter and the front door.. they greet you and welcome you back every time they see you. Nice room, comfy bed, safe in the closet, rain fall shower and we had a view of the water. Continental breakfast served (all the basics) Staff made great recommendations for restaurants and day tours. We were there during Mardi Gras and got bracelets we could use to get access to the bathrooms at their sister property. A bit dramatic but this is a lifesaver .. just don't lose the bracelet it's $25 to replace Would definitely return to this hotel and would recommend to others. Thank you so much for the hospitality!

Yelp
For my 40th Bday I decided to head down to New Orleans to celebrate. My plan was to stay at Bienville for one night and then a Air bnb the next night when my Friend arrived. The Bienville is a treasure in its own right. I've always wanted to sleep in a 4 post bed and was delighted that their King rooms have them. There's a special intimacy that the Bienville embraces. It makes you forget that you're in the French Quarter. After checking out, and heading to my Airbnb which was lackluster. I knew to pack my things and head right back to Bienville. Ms. Cynthia took care of me and made me feel at home. Ms. Beverly made me feel a warm and welcomed when I wanted to cry thinking I messed up my Bday accommodations on my bday. I stayed for5 days totaled. And when I return in Fall I know exactly where I'll be staying.

Yelp
It's an okay hotel. Nothing exceeding expectation but at the same time there wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Great location as it is within walking distance from Jackson Square, Canal Street, Bourbon Street, etc. Lots of bars and dining options around.

Yelp
I checked in on the 10th of September and checked out on the 13th. The staff was amazing, and the service was stellar. I cannot wait to come back to the city again. I love my hometown.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. We had a deluxe king with balcony overlooking the courtyard which was nice. Staff at front desk very nice and helpful. Room initially clean, only issue was on 3rd day (Sunday morning) housekeeping came early right around or before 9 am which is EARLY after night out in New Orleans. We said to come back later. When we came Back that night they had never come back but we were able to have front desk bring us towels , toilet paper etc. Hotel close to river so if you are light sleeper may hear ships fog horn but didn't bother me.

Yelp
What a beautiful place. The room was clean and had a nice large bathroom. We had a view of the quarter, and even though it was somewhat loud, that's all part of the experience! Pool area is great and the continental breakfast hit all the marks. We arrived early and they still let us store our bags in the lobby safely. That was great of them to do and very appreciated. Overall, the place was clean and comfortable and I would recommend!

Yelp
It's been a while since I stayed here. I booked what I thought was a double room with a balcony. When I got there I was informed that I was in a room where the window did not even open. The whole trip started out badly because the airlines in all of their glory changed our flight to a redeye. So unfortunately, we got there at about 6 AM on a Sunday morning. When I found out we did not have the room I wanted, I told them I would go ahead and take the king size room Monday through Friday and just deal with The original room for Sunday. I was told over the phone that it would be OK to get the king size room Monday through Friday. The person at the front desk was less than nice. I mean, I know I was a pain but if she could've put herself in my shoes for just one minute, she might've been a little nicer. I can't hear that well and I am talking through a plexiglass window to someone with a mask on. She moved us to a room that cost $100 more so that we wouldn't have to move. I agreed to pay the hundred dollars because what else am I going to do at this point? This was a sundeck room. So you enter the room from the outside and it's on the fourth floor. There is no view because it's a big wall. There was a wrought iron Patio set That was super uncomfortable because they did not have cushions. So it had about four strips across the bottom of the chair which there was no way you could sit on it comfortably. We had to bring towels out and use them as cushions. The floor inside of the room was super uneven. I just kept telling myself I am on vacation, I'm going to make the best of it no matter what. It did have a decent size mini fridge that held a lot of drinks. The restaurant downstairs was open from six till 10 and we liked the food. It was a convenient location as well. The pool warmed up after a few days. so there were some positives along with the negatives. The housekeeper was also very nice, brought us clean towels and made up the room daily. My best suggestion would be to look very closely at the room you're getting. If you're traveling with somebody that you always travel with and you can deal with a king size bed, I would say do the king size room overlooking the pool. Those are the best rooms.

Yelp
Our recent stay at the Bienville House, during the "off season" was a sweaty, noisy disaster. Bienville House rented rooms on the second floor despite knowing the air conditioning was not working, repeatedly lied to us about repairs being made, refused to contact management, and until the last day, refused to provide us with a different room. When we arrived at Bienville House on June 10th at approximately 2 pm and received a room on the second floor. Moving into the room, we noticed the A/C was not working, and my wife notified the desk. At 8 pm, we rechecked the room, and the A/C was still not working. The woman behind the counter told my wife, "She forgot," and it would take 20 minutes to get the repair man there. At 10 pm, we return to the room, there was a noisy box fan on the floor, and the room was still hot. The woman behind the counter assured me the repair man had been there and the room would cool down within an hour. It did not, and we sweated all night with the noisy box fan. The next morning at approximately 9 am, the woman behind the counter insisted our room was on the list of repairs, no mention of the supposed repairs the night before. The person standing in line behind me had a room two doors away on the second floor and also had no air conditioning. Talking with other guests, we identified at least four adjacent rooms on the second floor with no air conditioning. Returning to the hotel at approximately 4 pm, the woman behind the counter again assured us the air conditioning had been fixed. Again, this was not true. We asked to have our room changed, to a room with functioning A/C, but the woman behind the counter refused to consider it even though other rooms might have been available. We asked to speak with management. She said the manager was on vacation, and there was no one else she could call or email directly. At this point, she also said the maintenance man was off duty, but she would call him in. It turns out off duty meant working at the Bienville House's sister hotel, the Monteleone. When the maintenance man arrived, he fiddled with the thermostat for about 20 minutes before admitting the A/C system in Bienville House was too old, and he did not know how to fix it. He called a second maintenance man. The second maintenance man admitted the problem was with the A/C system on the second floor in that wing of the building. The system would randomly seize up, and there was nothing he could do about it. He also said the hotel was aware of the problem and had plans to fix it at some point in the future. The third morning, I went to the desk again, and this time, a different woman said changing our room would be no problem. We spent most of our vacation time in this hotel sweating it out in the Louisiana summer with no other accommodation than a noisy box fan. This is not the experience the Bienville House advertises, nor is it any sort of consolation for our paid-in-full experience.

Yelp
Was told room service available when reservation was made. Not true. Was not allowed in restaurant without reservation even though was paying guest. Ordered directly from restaurant was made to wait for bottled beer for over an hour. Will not be back!

Michael M.

Yelp
The entire hotel staff go out of their way to help you. The hostess in the restaurant is not as friendly. She even told us they were full with many empty tables. When we told her we were hotel guests she said she didn't care. I will stay at the hotel again for sure but never go into the restaurant.

David G.

Yelp
This is an excellent hotel. I highly recommend it, if staying in New Orleans. The location in the French Quarter is perfect for walking to stores and restaurants. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful, no matter what time of day. The rooms are nicely decorated and extremely clean. You can not go wrong with this hotel!

Yelp
SO BEAUTIFUL, the rooms are absolutely adorable, the staff was so friendly and welcoming and gave us a warm hello every time we entered the hotel which made us feel at home. They gave us good quality room service every single day of our stay, and it felt very clean from day one all the way through. I loved the location, in less than 10 minutes of walking you're right in the center of it all, but even outside of ur hotel room you are already in the quarter but in a quiet part so you can actually rest from all the activities of your trip. Bonus points because even the bars hotel (a tiki bar) had some of the tastiest drinks we had during our stay! We will definitely be coming to stay in this hotel again. Thanks for having us!

Yelp
This was my third visit to New Orleans, but the first for my wife. I wanted her to experience the French Quarter, but in a quiet and comfortable setting. The Bienville House Hotel was on point in meeting this requirement. First, but not foremost, the location is outstanding. Bienville House is on the edge of the French Quarter and across the street from public parking and the Mississippi River. If you want to park onsite, the valet will take care of you for a little more than the car park across the street. Foremost, however, was the care and hospitality we received, from the front desk, housekeeping, security, and the valet. Next, this is a historic boutique hotel. To that point, Bienville House is decorated in the French style, while at the same time is tasteful and clean. Unfortunately, the complimentary breakfast is on shutdown due to the pandemic. Nonetheless, complimentary coffee and tea is available each morning. For breakfast, turn left out the front door and walk two blocks over to the Ruby Slipper Cafe for sumptuous dine-in or take-out. In summary, I highly recommend Bienville House Hotel for a warm and welcoming hospitality experience that is a rare find these days.

Yelp
Excellent staff. Wonderful room, bedding, linens. It's a quaint, well maintained, quiet place that echoes a lot of the good things you would hope for in a little sister of Monteleone, without any of The Monteleone's ostentatious aura. 5 minute walk to Jackson Square one way and 5 to Canal Street the other. Just past the Decatur St Peter split, so it's a quiet, chill block of the Quarter. And I reiterate: the staff is excellent.

Yelp
This hotel was absolutely awesome! It is located in one of the best locations in city in my opinion. When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely gentleman by the name of William. He was quite charming with native knowledge and very professional. After we received our keys we were showed a cute little area with lemon water, lemonade, and cookies. William also made sure our bags made it to our room with no lifting on our behalf's. The area with water and snacks led to the hotel bar/restaurant, which, I'm sad to say I did not visit while there. The pool was also located outside of this room, which was like your own private oasis! The rooms were spacious with an antique feel and super comfy beds. Bathroom was nicely updated with modern fixtures and the shower was wonderful! When it was time to explore city we were given honest native advice from Ms Cynthia who was quite pleasant our entire stay as well. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel as it is four blocks away from bourbon street and nestled close to the business district.

Yelp
3.5 stars. I want to rate this hotel higher for sure, but there were just a few too many small things that added up. Stayed for five nights. Towards the end of the first weekend of Jazz Fest. Location is great, but loud at night. Staff was friendly, but rather scarce at times. Rooms have what you need, but nothing more. The decor is old, but gaudy. The beds are big, but they dwarf the room. The pool is a nice luxury to have on hot days, but the water is very cold and the pool area only gets direct sun for a sliver of the day. The bathroom looks appealing at first glance, but the water pressure was shoddy, the towel hooks were broken, and a loose/sharp piece of tile wobbled every time we walked in. Also, our television didn't work. Again: no fatal flaws in this place. The hotel served our needs and we found ourselves rooting for the place. But if you've been to nice hotels - even older ones - you know that the little things, when added up, are what end up making the difference between a good versus excellent experience. I think a little TLC would do this place some good.

Yelp
Loved my stay! Treated my friend who lives by Baton Rouge to her first time staying down in the city and she kept saying how it was in the perfect place to see everything. They were friendly, room was cute, beautiful little pool area, fun tiki bar too. You could tell it was older and I usually have issues with mold though didn't notice anything. If you are super sensitive I would think you'd want a new place though I loved the charm here! I will recommend & would come back!

Yelp
I am always skeptical of staying in or close to the French Quarter, but I am so glad I gave this place a try. First of all, this place is just beautiful. The decor inside was updated. The lobby, breakfast area and pool/courtyard area were just quaint and perfect. It is on Decatur street away from most of the hustle and bustle. I didn't have a problem with noise. It is across from the fire department, which was not an issue and it made me feel safer somehow. We got a room on the fourth floor, which is considered their roof. In my mind, we would have gotten a private balcony, overlooking the street or courtyard, but as you can see in some of the pictures, the wall was solid and you couldn't see anything over it. You had your own table and space but it was not separate from your neighbors. Some people would have no problem with that and is a difference in opinion. The room was lovely, clean and the bathroom was updated as well. I'm not into rain showers, but at least they had the handheld option. They had coffee and continental breakfast in the morning which was nice. I didn't partake in the hotel restaurant. My only small issue, was that I came back for a nap around 2 pm and my room hadn't been cleaned. I listened outside my room as two of the hotel staff/maids were talking very loudly as they performed their job in the rooms around me. The doors are also super heavy and loud when they close and our neighbor kept coming in and out, in and out, in and out, etc. You get the picture. There was no napping for me. Around 4, I got a knock from housekeeping to come and clean. Would I be back here? Absolutely. The staff for the most part were great. I would personally ask for a room that has a private balcony overlooking the courtyard.

Yelp
Loved our stay! Beverly at the front desk takes great care of her guests! We felt like friends by the end of the stay. Many thanks! Pam and Will Milroy

Yelp
I arrived to the hotel for my stay on April 6th 2022. Once I was able to check into my room after 4pm I went to change clothes as it was much warmer outside than I had expected. While I was fully undressed, either an employee or another guest who was given my key card entered my room and saw me completely exposed. I was absolutely mortified. When I brought this to the attention of the manager she was completely unsympathetic. Her reasoning was "it was probably an employee, mistakes happen, and our male employee was down here so at least it was a woman who walked in on you". I was told that I would be refunded for my stay. When I checked out on the 7th I was once again told that my stay would be refunded. However, when I tried to have that fulfilled through my booking company, they said they would no longer be refunding the stay. Apparently this hotel is okay with violating guests privacy and then lying to them about making things right.

Yelp
I chose this place for 3 main reasons. 1) The walkability, being in the middle of the French Quarter, 2) It's an historic property, which intrigues me, and 3) the free breakfast, which is invaluable when you have kids like mine. Pros: Everything was as advertised, from the hot breakfast available to the valet parking. The service was incredible no matter who you talked to. This hotel definitely has that historic charm, but it has modern amenities where it counts. The bathrooms must have been renovated recently because the rainfall shower was to die for. I loved it. On Saturday evening about 8pm, we were able to hear a jazz parade from our terrace, which was very cool. We took our two kids on this trip, and I felt very safe in this part of town. Beds, covers, and pillows were comfortable. Cons: I hesitate to put any cons because anything negative about this property, you will find at any other property as well. The Bienville is across the street from the fire house, and on one night we did hear the fire trucks go out on a call. Also, it is very close to the train tracks and twice a night you'll hear the whistle as it rolls through. As stated earlier also, it is an old property, and it has the original 6-person elevator. It's kind of slow and rattles, but adds to that charm. Also, it takes quite a bit of time for the hot water to show up when taking a shower. It's not a problem, just be patient. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. It added to an already great New Orleans experience.

Yelp
We had a lovely stay at this beautiful and charming hotel. The location can't be beat, in the French Quarter, but a 5-8 minute walk from the chaos and noise of Bourbon St. The parking lot is very convenient and everyone from the parking attendants, receptionists and concierge were extremely friendly and utmost professional. The room we were in was beautiful, comfortable and spacious. The updated bathroom was luxurious. We loved the balcony overlooking the courtyard. 12/10 would return to this hotel.

Yelp
I am a little back and forth between 3 and 4 stars but ultimately for the price and the quality of the hotel I am going with 3 stars. The hotel does have a wonderful sense of charm and history to it. The location couldn't be more perfect in terms of proximity to many popular French Quarter destinations. It is also close to the trolleys if you want to venture outside the Quarter and don't have a car. The complimentary breakfast is nice to have and includes coffee, tea, milk, orange juice, hard boiled eggs, cold cereal, bagels and danishes, yogurt and apples (no hot items unless you consider toasted items hot). I frankly found the breakfast attendant working for tips annoying; she was adamant about not allowing me to pour and cream my own coffee, even after I said I'd like to add my own cream. We ended up in a corner room which was nice but pretty darn tiny and the bathroom was definitely cramped. When going to the bathroom your face was just about in the sink and there wasn't really much space for toiletry items, shower was stand up only and just big enough. The bedding, curtains, light fixtures, sink, and toilet all seemed newer but there was also a bit of shabbiness to the room in the furniture and a few other things that needed a lift. Besides the breakfast attendant, all the staff were very helpful and courteous and overall we were pleased with our stay.

Yelp
Unpleasant smell throughout the entire hotel including the rooms. Although the rooms are nicely decorated and the lady at the desk was pleasant. The bar was horrible also service wasn't good there and they are limited on liquor choices. If you like rum, you'll be ok. Won't stay here again.

Yelp
I had a mixed experience here, but after all is said and done, I wouldn't stay again (unfortunate, as I'm coming to NOLA annually for work), and I've recommended to my corporate travel team that they don't offer it as an option in the future. The positive aspect of the hotel is its aesthetic/character. The antique-feeling furniture and chandeliers in the rooms; the pool and the balconies (be warned: NOT all rooms have balconies). It's also in a good location. I stayed here for a full week, so I probably interacted with just about every first floor employee. There were a couple who were very nice, particularly one woman working in the evening and an older gentleman with the valet. For the most part, the others were neutral-to-apathetic and inflexible. They don't allow room changes in any circumstance. I asked on multiple occasions and was always told no, even when I went down at check out time, thinking I could slip into a room as some guests checked out and before others checked in. It was explained that the hotel was fully booked (though it was still showing up online when I searched for availability), and that room changes weren't permitted because I had purchased a specific room type-- which I did not select at booking time. They only gave me the option to upgrade to penthouse if I paid like $700 more/night. This frustrated because I had a corner room across from the ice maker and next to the elevator, and my balcony-absent window faced a wall. Not that I would want to subject anybody else to this room, but for at least the later portion of the stay, when I had to work and spend more time back at the hotel, a nicer environment would have done wonders. That wasn't the only problem, though. The hotel door is sometimes locked at night and you have to enter through the garage. The first night, that entrance was also locked. There was a sign instructing guests to show their key card through the window to the front desk attendant to be granted access-- but nobody was at the front desk. It was cold outside and late, but I had to wait for the valet guy to come back and knock loudly on the window before somebody reappeared at the desk and let us in. The people working always had different information. The room change process was one example (some employees would tell me that I could swap but said to check back at a certain time, but at that time a different employee would have a different story). Another was when I asked about early check out, as I was exploring leaving early. One employee said I would be charged a $100+ cancellation fee. Another said it was not possible, I would be charged the full amount, unless the manager approved foregoing the charge. The manager later returned a call I'd made her and left a voicemail (unfortunately a day too late, as I needed to rebook my flight the day I was asking the question) to tell me that I could, but there would be a $75 fee. The walls were a bit thin and I was able to hear my neighbors, and (although it isn't the hotel's fault), there is a train that runs by the hotel at the WORST times (e.g., 430am). I used to live across the street from a very active freight train track and it was never as loud as this, so just FYI for light or even regular sleepers. They provide two free miniature waters for your entire stay. Unlike other hotels which will replace them daily or just give you more if you ask, Bienville charges $3 per small bottle, or you can buy standard size bottles for $2 from the vending machine. No exceptions. It doesn't matter if you stay one night or seven. There were other things that bugged: bath products with useless allergens in them, like dairy. No recycling option. Lids that don't fit the coffee cups in the rooms. Bed was comfortable, though. Shower temperature was temperamental over the 7 days I was there (sometimes way too hot when halfway turned up, sometimes too lukewarm when fully turned up, with no relation to length of shower time). Overall it was comfortable, but subpar, and customer service was lacking. Not worth the frustration of a return visit...

Yelp
Location, location, location! The Bienville House is situated only 3 blocks from Bourbon Street (far enough to be away from the smell, but close enough if you want to enjoy it) and only 2 blocks from the Riverside walking path, restaurants/bars, and shopping area. There is a good café next door as well as restaurants surrounding the property in all directions. Location, however, is not the only reason to choose Bienville House! The service level was stellar from the front desk to the concierge to the valet and the on-site restaurant staff. We stayed in a Superior King Balcony room located on the end of the building, so we had lots of light due to windows on two sides of the room. Our balcony looked down over the beautiful pool area and was furnished with two small chairs. We could have used a small table on the balcony, but ended up moving the small table from inside our room and placing it out on the balcony. The room itself was large, very clean and well-stocked with soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and a mending kit in the bathroom. There was also a one-cup coffee maker with choices of dark roast coffee, breakfast blend, and decaf. We did find the room rather warm much of the time, but the ceiling fan was so strong that just lying in bed under it for a few minutes was enough to get cooled off. Be forewarned that there was no microwave or mini fridge in the room, so if that is important to you, check to see if any of the rooms offer that. While both my husband and I found the bed to be really comfortable, we both woke up several times each night due to the loud sounds of the trains running by. The hotel is a block from the tracks, so if you're a light sleeper, best to get some ear plugs or request a room that is not located on the very end of the building. The hotel's WiFi worked well and provided a fast connection both in our room and in the lobby where we also enjoyed the simple daily breakfast options and late-day snacks. Overall, we had a fantastic stay at this property and would have no hesitation booking the Bienville House again.

Yelp
We stayed there for one regretful night. Paid a high non-refundable pet fee ($125). I got a call at 9pm from the front desk with complains about my dog making noise. My dog barks when people knocks on door. Also, we got a room right outside the elevator. The noises would scare my 7lb dog and she would yap once or twice. The building is pretty nice, nice location, beds are comfy, and staff is lukewarm friendly. Not a place for dog owners. I am not coming back with or without my dog.

Yelp
We had an amazing visit to New Orleans and this hotel was the perfect rest stop in our trip. The location was great for exploring the French Quarter and Bourbon Street. The staff was able to arrange any other explorations for us and answered our questions. Our room was amazing. It felt like a little oasis. I could live in that bed, if there werent so many other things to do. Our room didn't have a window, which made the room kinda dark. On the upside it was also very quiet. Staff was friendly and efficient. The breakfast was good and I would definitely recommend the hotel restaurant. The drink menu is insane. We really wanted to try the heated outdoor salt water pool, but didn't bring our swimsuits. Our visit was fantastic, thanks. We hope to return!

Yelp
This place is amazing. I got a suite and it was great. I think It was a little too big for me but then again my circumstances during my stay were not as I planned them. The place is clean. The staff arefriendly. Continental breakfast every morning. Helpful front desk (Cynthia) with tours I wanted to do. The only downfall was that the elevator stop working on my second day here and I was on the fourth floor. I was able to use the service elevator and the stairs for the time being. They were very friendly and helpful with everything. I would definitely would like to stay here again
