On the Grid : Bierfabriek

"Smack in the middle of Amsterdam on the Rokin, you can find the always busy Bierfabriek (Beerfactory). In this brewery-bar you can order a specialty beer and grab some peanuts from the bags on the wall. Don't worry about the mess, you can just throw the empty shells on the ground. When you get hungry, they have a variety of bites, but for dinner they offer their very tasty, biological, barbecue roasted chicken." - Resoluut

Bierfabriek was such a fun spot for dinner and drinks! Their house-brewed beer was smooth and refreshing, perfect with the hearty food. The rotisserie chicken was juicy and well-seasoned, the fries crispy with that classic Dutch mayo, and the stew was rich and comforting with a kick of flavor. The vibe inside was awesome, quirky decor (we loved the chicken with beer bottles!) and lively energy made it feel casual but unique. Great spot for hanging out with friends, enjoying solid pub fare, and sipping on quality beer. Highly recommend for a relaxed and satisfying night in Amsterdam!

To start, Tegan took exceptionally good care of us. Not only was it my wife’s birthday but she also has gluten issues and Tegan took care of both situations like a true pro she is! She walked my wife through the menu and explained which items she should stay away from and that was a great relief. The food itself was very good and the outside atmosphere was perfect on a perfect Wednesday evening in Amsterdam. Bedankt Tegan!!

Excellent beers, service, athmosphere and food! Authentic small brewery. Fair prices for the ambient. Been here twice, highly recommended.

Tasty good, nice interior, friendly service but sometimes harder to catch them.

Foods are amazing and people are very helpful and kind. Atmosphere is very good and people sitting not very close which is very very good and comfortable. Beers are just as excepted. And finally, prices are regular but quality is very good for prices. I would like to many thanks to all people of Bierfabriek. Best!

Google
We ordered the large sharing platter, which was delicious but took quite a while to arrive. My favorites were the spare ribs and the sausages. Despite the wait, the atmosphere was fantastic, and we had a great time overall. The beers were excellent—definitely worth a visit for beer enthusiasts.

Google
Great ambience and good beers But can’t order food. Came with a big group. There were a few other big groups. When the waiter was taking our orders for drinks, I tried to order food as well. They said, “I’ll come back.” Thirty minutes later, my friend asked again, “Can we order food now?” They said they’d be with us soon. Fifteen minutes after that, they told us they’d take our order in another 10 minutes. 20 minutes later, my friend got up and found the waiter and ordered the food. They recommended chicken and told us everything else would take at least 30 minutes of preparation. We ordered the chicken. It took 45 minutes to arrive. A few couple who arrived one hour after us and also ordered chicken have already finished their meal at this point. Thankfully the chicken was delicious. Avoid if you’re coming with bigger groups.

Google
Great beers, atmosphere and super nice service! You order with the q Code at your table and they bring the order to you 🥳🥳 Also could not stop to have their great beer! Good as for small groups or singles , as for bigger ones.. Bedankt!

Yelp
This restaurant is attached to the Leonardo Hotel which I stayed in for a week so before I left I decided to go downstairs and try this place and WOW I'm so glad I did! I ordered the Beef Short Rib which is my go to and it was delicious! It's a good size too so be prepared to take home a doggy bag! The fries were incredible and I'm not even a big fry person but these had the best crunch to them and tasted salty but a little sweet. (Don't be scared... Just get them!) The service was very pleasant and my food came out quickly! The interior was very cozy and it wasn't too noisy at all. It's a must if you're traveling here and would like a nice dinner.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite hidden gems in the heart of Amsterdam. It's a nice brew pub with a wonderful variety of beers on tap. The food menu is small and simple but there are still enough options to satisfy your appetite. I always order the Farmer's Chicken. It is seasoned and marinated and so delicious. It comes with a small side salad and some frites. Add a little of the house-made BBQ sauce to top off this delicious meal. On the nice weather days they also have some outside seating which makes the experience even better.

Yelp
Great beer, service and fun vibe! Being from the US, I always enjoy trying beers in other countries. This place nails a smooth beer that tastes just as described. The bitterballs (got regular and spicy chicken) were so good. The mustard served with them was phenomenal. The menu is in Dutch and English and servers spoke English with us. We felt very welcomed.

Yelp
Great chicken, good beer, nice variety of food and drink . Staff was friendly and helpful- loud but fun. Sitting at the bar is the best! Will come again.

Yelp
A brewery and a restaurant, Bierfabriek is known for their free-range charcoal grilled chicken and homemade beers. I loved my experience here. My bf and I trekked in the rain to Bierfabriek late, around 8pm or so. If you're looking for good beer, food, and atmosphere, I highly recommend this place. First of all, their menus are on wooden boards. The tables have peanuts and you can munch on them while you wait for your food. Service was attentive, maybe because we were one of the last people there, but nonetheless friendly. We had the roasted chicken which had great flavor. Chicken was not at all dry, and was rather juicy! The roasted chicken came with perfectly cooked fries and homemade sauces. DROOOOL.... Also had the Dutch Charcuterie Platter. So much meat!! Comes with a variety of cold cuts, served alongside sweet and sour onions and pickles. As for drinks, we tried the Puur (pilsner) and Nero (dark porter) beers--both delicious. Loved the atmosphere and how home-y it felt. There are picnic table style seating for large groups and small tables for smaller parties. Would love to eat here again if we ever visit Amsterdam again.

Yelp
Good beers for a fair price in the center of Amsterdam. The outside seating is quiet in the side street. Inside there are large tables for groups. The atmosphere inside is relaxed

Yelp
Came to the Bierfabriek as a recommendation from a local and it was a good choice. It is walking distance from the famous dam square. They give you free peanuts, these free peanuts are literally on every inch of the floor, i guess it's like their theme, and its a good one because it is very memorable. The best part of the place is that they have tables with personal beer spouts so you can just serve yourself! Super convenient. To eat, I had chicken and fries and it ended up being an entire small chicken. Cool place!

Yelp
Bar, brewery, and restaurant that also offers take out. Their menu is small but they're known for their marinated and grilled full chickens. We ordered a chicken to go, which came with fries, 3 sauces, and peanuts. Ordered 2 beers at the bar (€3/drink) which we drank while we were waiting. They were really good too. They also offered some bottled beer. Nice atmosphere, no wait, would definitely recommend!

Yelp
Normally stop by here for beers, however this time we made advance dinner reservations ( a must weekend evenings). Fun vibrant atmosphere with peanut shells covering the floors. The BBQ Chicken served with delicious fries is the specialty (15 euro), lined up on the spits at the restaurant's entry. The Vegan special was an asparagus puff pastry in phyllo served with salad, 15 euro. ( not really vegan, contained a hard boiled egg) Tasty & cooked to order. Generous portions. Friendly service, good selection of on premises brewed beers.

Yelp
Decently price beer, endless peanuts and they have a pretty decent crudite board with cheese, fig and arugula. This is a great spot to catch up with friends over beer (less than €3). If you can wrangle a party of 6-7 people, do so. That have self serve tap tables. I didn't get to try it, but the concept is stellar. The Bianco was great - sad that they don't ship to America.

Yelp
Amazing place for beer lovers. If you are looking a place for big groups (4+ ppl) this is the place. You have the option to have 2 types of draft beer at your own table (check pic) They also offer a great menu, my tip go for the rosted chicken. The restrooms are also big and surprisingly clean and they don't charge the use of it (It's quite common in The Netherlands) Consider that the service is slow but they are really helpful. In case you want the draft beer (like in the pic) make sure to make a reservation and be on time
google avatar

Aleksandr F.

Yelp
Good home brewed beer. Each table served with free peanuts. You can eat them and drop on the floor peanuts shell. That's so funny experience!
google avatar

Yelp
Hot Amsterdam guys here this Sunday night. I'm in heaven. Then they played "Shaft". Its over The beer is good and cheap the food is good and just a delft dew items. Not fussy. Sauce has a bit of sweetness can get it mild or spicy. I'm spicy. And happy

Kevin E.

Yelp
Beer is good. Food edible. Service quick for appetizers; slow for burgers etc. profoundly loud with 90% young drunk boys throwing coasters ad peanuts. If your into that then great.

Eddy P.

Yelp
Great local brew pub with a selection of beer on tap, food, and a fantastic ambiance. A great blues band also was performing the night we were there. If you are looking for un-touristy dutch night out - this is the place!

Yelp
My first time here. Really liked this place. Very clean! It's a brewery. They have 3 different types on the menu and if you are not a beer drinker they have a full bar. They had a blonde, red and stout. I got the red-good flavor. For food we ordered fries in a mug and these amazing balls. Forgot the name but Very yummy!. I hear the chicken is fabulous. Can't wait to go back to try the chicken.
google avatar

Cynthia M.

Yelp
Really great service, but the food is just okay. The bartender even offered to refoam our drinks when she saw we were taking pictures of them. I tried the bitterballen, which I thought was okay, but I've had better. The novelty of throwing the peanut shells on the ground is fun too.
google avatar

Anisha K.

Yelp
Drawn-in by chalkboard signs advertising craft beer. Place has a cool/unique vibe. Front section has taps on the table. Free shelled peanuts for all! Food: Ordered beer flight (off-the-menu, but requested waitress) and fried Dutch snacks (ex. bitterballen). Red beer (russo) was my favorite. Whole BBQ chicken (12 euros) came with a ton of fries and was a great value - could easily be shared by 2. Service: Waitress was friendly, but service was a bit slow. Didn't get any service for first 10-15 minutes. She earned a star back for helping me charge my dying iPhone! Bottom Line: Cool concept and relaxed environment. Split a chicken and order some beers!

Yelp
This is my go-to every single time I am in Amsterdam; the chicken has an amazing flavor, the french fries are perfectly cooked, and the beers that they brew in-house are great. This place brings me back to my childhood where we would go to a restaurant and throw peanuts on the ground. It is still fun, and its a great little snack while downing all of their homemade beers. The thai balls are unbeatable- they are essentially bitterballen with a thai twist. Also, don't forget to try the pork belly. IT IS TO DIE FOR!

Yelp
If you're visiting Amsterdam and looking for a place to eat, it's a must. Great service, great food, great place. I got the whole chicken with fries, and my boyfriend got many of the starters and it was the best dinner we've had in Amsterdam so far. In such a cute area, and the the vibe of the brewery is great. Overall great place.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't go here if you are over 30. Or 25. Or if you like posh beer. Do go here if you are in for a cheap beer, don't want much to choose from and are in it to get drunk. Pissed. People seems to enjoy the food here, I did not try it so review only for drinking. It has two cool feature and very friendly and helpful staff. 1) Free peanuts for everyone (the kind Goofy eats) - shells all over the floor 2) Manual DIY refilling at tables and pay for the amount you drink.
google avatar

Colt V.

Yelp
Two words. Chick en.... wait... and beer... three words. Busy place, lots of locals and some tourists. Limited in house beer selection. Lots of space and reasonably clean bathrooms. If you like beer and good chicken, you'll be very happy.
google avatar

Fabiana N.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Peanuts are served at the table and you can sit there and eat as much as you want.. Shells go on the ground. The Farm BBQ Chicken is very tasty and juicy. No need to add the BBQ sauce that they offer! Fries are great! Definitely order the Bitterballen! Good beer, and they also have a non-alc beer.
google avatar

Abby N.

Yelp
Come here. Drink a beer(s). Eat a chicken. Eat a chicken, only. Well, eat a chicken first if you must try other snackies.
google avatar

Floris V.

Yelp
A fun place perfect for a group's night out. Beer from table taps, big oven dishes filled with chicken and fries. Easy food, easy drinks, good fun. Nothing fancy though!
google avatar

Cassie P.

Yelp
This was the perfect place for our large group to come relax after being on our feet all afternoon. It's really quite simple: Step One: Grab some peanuts and spread them all over the table Step Two: Order one of their homemade brews Step Three: Check out the menu and try one of their other (very reasonably priced) snacks (I loved the croquette sandwich) Step Four: Repeat Step 1-3 until drunk, full, tired or a combination of the three The waiters were all attentive without being overbearing. They make it really easy to pay at the register by the bar when you're all finished. Really can't complain!

Yelp
It is a very large beer place with amenities for everyone. Two entrances, one on Rokin and the opposite on Ness as most of the locals in the street. Bar lounge with booth and quite long bar where you can sit or just stand for a drink, large tables for big groups and smaller tables. Not a very intimate place but being big you can find your own spot :) Beer is the winner, local brewed. The black (Nero) is my favourite. If you want to eat they have a very short menu, the roasted chicken was really nice. A complete small roasted one served with all the salses needed and of course french fries (not the best I have to say). Peanuts on the floor everywhere. Yes, the American way, free and available on every table. Once you crunched away, just throw the shells on the floor. Not a bit fan of it but it is a characteristic of the place. Service is good, fast and prices are moderate. The music is great, late 80's 90's ... quite loud but not disturbing :)

Yelp
The Bierfabriek is a great spot in the middle of the city. They brew their own beers here (3 different ones) and you can enjoy them in their awesome café. The have the Puro, Rosso and Nero of which the Nero (a dark beer) is my favorite. The beers cost 3-3,50 euros for 300ml. The place looks really cool as well. There are big long tables, perfect for groups. The tables with beer taps on them are cool, you can tap your on beer on your table and never have an empty glass! There are also peanuts on every table and you can throw the empty shells on the floor :) They have food as well. Their chicken is very popular. I tried it and it was very good! There is also an other changing dish on the menu like for instance entrecote. There are 3 salads, a bunch of starters (also good for sharing since they are mainly platters and bread) and snacks (quite a lot of them and nice ones too!). I really liked the Bierfabriek. It's a very nice place for a drink and a bite!

D N.

Yelp
Great place to relax and have a beer! They have peanuts on the table for free to snack on and great food to order. I highly recommend the chicken here which is slow roasted on a rotisserie over charcoal which gives it a wonderful flavor, they serve it with fries and a amazing barbecue sauce. The place is also conveniently close to Dam square and also the tram which can quickly take you to Rembrandt square both very lively squares with lots to do.

Yelp
I'm going 2 times in one week, it's a nice place. I accurate on this is not a place for couples (except beer lovers ;)) For group, with friends or colleagues this place is cool. beer for those who love , a good chicken fries for 13 € its reasonable price and a cool atmosphere.
google avatar

Alexandra T.

Yelp
Came to Bierfabriek on a Tuesday night while traveling for business in Amsterdam. It's a casual brewery/pub that makes their own beer and also has some bites. I really enjoyed the rosso beer! Easy to drink with more flavor than a light one. The beers were so incredibly cheap...I got 2 for 7 Euros. The group I was with also ordered a few apps to split amongst 10-15 people over the course of the night. I tried the fries, goat cheese croquettes, meat croquette, and samosas. They were all great! My favorite was probably the goat cheese croquette. Super oozy on the inside and crisp on the outside. Great spot to grab a drink and light fare in a convenient downtown Amsterdam location.
google avatar

Amber P.

Yelp
I've been here a couple times now. Once, unbeknownst to me, I came in on Oktoberfest. That was a hoot because so many people were dressed up. Last night I went with a party and got a tap table where we sat around it and pulled our own beers. That's a fun novelty and isn't too expensive. Sometimes as an expat or a tourist, you want the comfort of the familiar. That is this place. The barbecued chickens are tasty, and the beers are OK. The ambience is fun and won't challenge the American outlook.
google avatar

Wylie C.

Yelp
Great beer brewed in house. The quality is really there, 3 types of beer but whoever is brewing knows what their doing. The main thing on the menu is BBQ chicken. It's basically a small whole chicken marinated for 24 hours and then cooked rotisserie style. It comes with a BBQ sauce that, in my opinion, is too sweet. The chicken however is perfect without it. Literally some of the best I've ever had... Anywhere. To top it off they give you peanuts on the table to crack, eat and throw the shells on the floor. I love this, it reminds me of some of the Texas dives I used to frequent. It all really adds up to give a feeling of home.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Great brewery in downtown Amsterdam! Not a huge selection, but beer is very good! Love the peanuts on the floor concept. Service is always great and food is very good! Thought to get a seat at busy times so make reservations if you can.

Paul M.

Yelp
Absolutely love coming here every time we're in Amsterdam. Great beers that they make in house. Food is delicious! Staff is great and knowledgeable!! Peanuts on the table, so if you've got a peanut allergy, take care
google avatar

Anelya S.

Yelp
This place is awesome for chicken and beer. Seriously though the best chicken for €13,50! We walked in on Friday evening and there was a bit of a wait ~ 20 minutes. We headed straight to the bar and ordered a round of beers for 3 of us to try. Then another round, and voila table is ready! 3 chickens and a bowl of fries. The succulent, juicy meat and smoky flavor made this chicken unforgettable for me! I loved the place. It's a bit messy but it's a style with all the peanut shells on the ground, 4 beers to try and one type of chicken to order. It's like a farm life: simple and delicious. I would bring my friends here in a heartbeat! Please don't change, I love you as is!
google avatar

Allyce M.

Yelp
This is a nice place with a good atmosphere. They have 4 of their own beers, I tried 2 and both were good. The menu was more cheese platters and appetizers other than one chicken dish. So if you're really hungry and are looking for something other than chicken, be prepared.
google avatar

Niko F.

Yelp
Really bad service. The staff makes no effort to be pleasant or even polite. Just don't bring your friends here. There's plenty of options in town.
google avatar

Marina V.

Yelp
This place has the most amazing chicken! One of my local Dutch friends took me there and it was just delicious! !! Very affordable and great dinner!
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
When we went there on a Friday night the place was pretty crowded. First they told us, that we would have to wait for a table for more than 1 hour. So we went to eat somewhere else and came back later. Then they told us that we will have to wait another 30 minutes to be seated. We waited at the bar and started trying their own brewed beer. Of the three they make (puur, Rossi, Nero) I recommend the puur. It is a good beer but not the best I drank so far. The atmosphere here is very unique and it is quite fun to enjoy some beers here. The chicken all the other people were eating also looked and smelled great. We just shared a bread. Make sure to ask for their homemade sauce when you also order the bread. It is a great dip for it. If you want to have some fun and enjoy a special beer bar go there. It is definitely not a mistake. But it is more kind of a tourist thing I guess. But as I wrote still fun.
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
The chicken here is unbelievable. I have never had anything like it. The fries are also amazing and so crispy. The chicken is fall off the bone tender yet has a smoky flavor from being grilled. Chicken is mostly dark meat but that didn't bother me at all. We had the Pilsner beer and it was good- golden. The best part of the experience? The bbq sauce is perfect. One is spicy and the other a touch sweet but balanced with vinegar. I would purchase it or steal it to bring back to Florida if I could. Service is slow but whatever.

P G.

Yelp
Very good chicken place. Meat falls off the bone. Chicken is very small but house meals comes along with fries to fill you up. Sauce selection is small but they are quite good. Nothing spicy but bbq is the play.
google avatar

Jonathan K.

Yelp
Always fun in the Bier Fabriek , tap your own beer at the tap table and enjoy a succulent chicken. Friendly staff here people. Nice spacious atmosphere for informal dinging and throwing some peanuts around
google avatar

Amy N.

Yelp
We grabbed the last table by the door, which was perfect for watching the street roll by in the rain. They did have an outdoor area that smokers huddled in on occasion, and it looked like it would've been a decent place to sit outside. Bierfabriek had an entire BBQ chicken on the menu the day we were there. They were on the rotisserie for 24-hours, and it was a great meal if you walked in hungry. (Size is relative to your usual experiences, so I personally thought the 'whole chicken' was on the smaller side, as in the USA one would not order a whole chicken on a plate for themselves and expect to finish it! This was definitely the perfect sized good meal for one.) Apparently they offer this regularly, and have a great setup that you can walk by a window to the kitchen and see all these chickens rotating on the spit. Very cool. They had complimentary peanuts that you shelled, and threw your remains on the floor. For as busy as it was, and as drunk as many of the patrons seemed, their bathrooms were very clean. Hooray! Waitstaff was very nice. Some tables offered a keg and tap setup with two beers at your fingertips, which seems an efficient choice if you're there to drink heavily. Their beer list was short, but good. Definitely worth a quick trip to request a flight to try their brews (or hunker down on a rainy night.) I felt the experience was more like a regular restaurant that made it's own beer instead of a brewery. If you are looking for a beer-lover's experience I would pop in early, and plan move on to other options.
google avatar

Lars W.

Yelp
Sitting in a booth with your own tap, how much closer to beer heaven can you get? The beer hits the spot on a hot Amsterdam afternoon. The peanuts are fun. Their chicken and fries are good. My family and I loved the place.
google avatar

Tré S.

Yelp
Great place if you enjoy good beer. It's a great venue for hanging with friends or maybe a party with a group. Don't worry if you make a mess because they encourage it - you can throw the shells of the bar nuts on the floor. I just love it here.

Brooke H.

Yelp
Good beers. Good food. Fun atmosphere. Don't go if you have a nut allergy. They serve in shell peanuts for every table. Shells all over the floor make it feel a bit more casual but hip place. Also some big feast size tables so good for big parties/groups.
google avatar

Rares S.

Yelp
I used to love this place. Their products (own brewed beer and somewhat famous bbq farm chicken) were always a treat. This does not make up for their execrable customer service. My experience: I went out with a couple of my friends one afternoon for some drinks. We sat down at the first table with no "Reserved" sign on it and drank a couple of rounds of beer and what do you know: we got hungry. Ordered a bbq chicken, when the waitress comes back to us saying: "We're sorry but I can't let you order food since this table is reserved in 10 minutes and you need to leave". You can imagine that this came to our surprise since we just had a fresh round of beers on our table. After our options were presented: "Move to the bar and ask the table manager if we could be seated again", we asked to speak to this manager. She came over and explained how because we were not eating anything they presumed that we would not stay more than 2 hours. Frankly an apology that they mixed things up was enough for us to leave but she was seemingly shocked how we don't understand that this is normal. I understand the fact that they are located in an area where they get enough tourists to not care about having customers, but this was too much in my book.
google avatar

Kelsey H.

Yelp
So yummy!!! We got the big meat platter to share and it was plenty of food (sadly no cheese though) the staff were very friendly and I will definitely be back next time I'm in Amsterdam! Pretty lad back, good for family but also great for young adults trying to chill and get a beer!
google avatar

Andrea P.

Yelp
They don't know it, but this place has accomplished something quite amazing: they made me actually like a beer place! yay!! At the Bierfabriek, you walk in and you wonder when was the last time they actually swiped the floors, as they are covered with peanut shells. They you realize this is part of the charm of this place and you start eating peanuts like crazy and throwing the shells on the food just like everybody else. Then if you're lucky, you're sitting at the one of the tables where you get to tab your own beer and because it's fun, you start pouring beer even though you don't really like beer. And that's when the miracle occurs: this beer actually tastes nice!!! They have three beers: Puur (a blond beer), Rosso (a red ale beer, my personal favorite) and Nero (a dark beer). They also do food: small bites (the traditional bitterballen are nice) and their signature dish, roasted chicken, which has been marinated for 24 hours and is truly delicious. They also have a few other dishes that change daily. Overall this place has a nice wibe, good easy-going friendly atmosphere. Perfect to catch up with friends around borrel or dinner!
