One of the baddest accommodation experiences I’ve ever had. I really advise to avoid this place. I stayed here for 5 nights in dorms room of 8 people. While in the internet they claim to have AC, in practice it turned on at 18 and shuts down at 9 am, forcing you to wake up sweaty. When we asked to extend the time of the AC, they wanted ti charge us extra for each AC hour, which is crazy in my opinion. The toilets were poor as well. There is ~3 toilets near the room, and 90% of the time they were either stuck and full with feces, or didn’t have toilet paper. We complained about that as well, and nothing reaalu changed. It turns out that power breaks are pretty common in Ilha Grande, and can last for few hours. Most of the hostels and restaurants have generators for this case, this hostel doesn’t.

This is one of those rare gems that looks better than the photos! Mainly female staff were so friendly and happy to answer questions. Stayed in the 4 bed girls dorm at the front - if you plan on early nights then maybe not the best choice for you, but once music stops around 11pm, I passed out in the comfy bed. You'll need to sleep with the air con on and grab a fleecy blanket. Shared bathroom was really clean. In fact, the whole place was truly clean. Free welcome drink, also just a really welcoming space. I was pleased to turn up here. Wi fi was good enough to make a whatsapp call back to England for a long chat. Felt very safe walking back late at night, it's right in the middle of everything on the main track through the island but away from the drag of busier restaurants. If you're alone and wary, thought there are many lovely places to stay tucked away up alleyways in the direction of the mountains, this is a better option given its proximity to everything and ease of getting to :)||||Did have a slight issue with lack of hot water but travelling through Brazil, I think what us English call hot water is hard to come by!

I didn't stay at the hostel, just went to there restaurant to eat Argentinian empanadas which are delicious. I ate vegetarian "green" one and drank really good lemon and mint juice. There was a nice reggae band playing, so I definitely loved the place. I think it's great to stay there as a guest

I loved this place so much. Staff is very nice and helpful, we had to change hostels because the other one was horrible. This place has a nice vibe and its easy to make friends. The hammocks are great for chilling out. Breakfast is good, sometimes there is cake omnomnom. Good beds, nice bathrooms. Easy place to locate also. Would stay here again for sure!

Overall a decent place, but serious plumbing issues for showers and toilets. Decent wifi but little to no common area. "Private bathroom" didn't work at all despite daily "repairs". Hot water worked for one shower and was scalding hot. Toilet functionality was inconsistent. Little common area space if any (shared with a restaurant which played loud music until past 11pm). Air conditioning only from 10pm-10am. No locks on room doors. Some beds were not bunk and out in open. Few to no hooks in rooms or bathrooms. Towels for rent, locker keys $r20 for duration of stay. Overall a decent stay but not entirely as advertised. Wifi worked decently.

Really cool place. Nearly perfect for me. Interesting construction with a lot of character. Cool staff. Excellent buffet right next door. Only negative was that they allow the cats in the rooms and on the beds. When I arrived we had to remove two cats from beds in my room, I'm allergic, so if I'd known that before I paid up front I would have stayed somewhere else.

I originally booked for 2 nights but eventually stayed for 5 nights. I had to change dorms from the 6 bed to the 8 bed back to 6 and on the last night to the 4 bed dorm. They were all very spacious with a large locker to store your backpack. The staff was very helpfull with booking a room on the last minute and giving information about the island and booking transfers. The breakfast was really nice and the overall atmosphere in the hostel as well. I really recommend this hostel for your stay on Ilha Grande.

About volunteering. Biergarten, I have you in my heart. Thanks for the amazing opportunity you gave me staying there and also for opening your Doors to my heart. I would have to say that the last manager (Maru) was amazing and I want to thank her. First for her willingness to make an amazing work and also, for allowing me to learn in such an amazing and kind manner. Maru is a LEADER. Really. Thank you for the experience. If you are a volunteer, She is the go to persona to go. Details for you to have the most of the experience. Plase, take with you mosquito repelent, I even got one of these raquets. Be bold, go make hikings, go to the nature, get lost and enjoy the Forro nights. Thanks for being the vehicle of an amazing experience there! Keep in touch!
