I went here on a very rainy day- and at first I thought they were closed as it’s very low key and quiet. It was our last day in CR. I knocked and the door was answered. I wasn’t prepared for how special this shop is. Honestly, had I known what I was about to see- I would’ve saved all my souvenir money just for this shop. You can instantly tell the difference in quality and craftsmanship. The senior assistant, a young lady, and a kindly three legged dog were working in the shop. All welcomed us in even though we were very soggy. He encouraged us to pick things up and educated us on the process. The shop itself is like a little sanctuary, and the pictures of the shop don’t do it any justice. We were welcomed to take our time and enjoy all the beautiful items. It was really good to see how well Mr. Biesanz was regarded and his use of the local trees in a sustainable way. Mr. Biesanz is often picked to provide national gifts on official affairs; and shop displays many letters from presidents and royalty who received his art. You can see many high end pieces, but I must emphasize that the shop was not pretentious at all. Mr. Biesanz welcomes new and young collectors looking for something small and nice on a smaller budget. I’m a young art collector on a budget myself, and I was able to find a small Japanese style bowl that really special for my humble collection at home. This is a real treat.
