Big Apple Dive Resort

Lovely atmosphere set around the pool and tropical gardens, actually feels surprisingly natural and green. Although much smaller than the original Big Apple, the space is well used and very popular. We visited many times during our stay, and theres no doubt its the most reliable food in Sabang at a reasonable price. We were pleasantly surprised by the quesadilla, way exceeding expectations. And all the other food we tried was good. Top marks to the staff, the girls work hard and the service was on point on every occasion. A much higher level of service than is the norm. Only thing to note is the coffee could be improved.

Spent 20 days at the Big Apple and enjoyed a 40 dive package at their resort- a beautiful oasis in central Sabang. You feel like you are waking up in the jungle everyday. Delicious, flavorful food from talented chefs. Wonderful staff who make you feel at home. Friendly owners who provide local recommendations. Clean, up to date accommodation with mini fridge. Strong starlink wifi throughout the resort. Superb full service dive shop. If macro and nudibranchs are your thing, dive with Kris. She is an excellent spotter! We saw 50+ species of nudibranch during our stay. I will miss Big Apple and cannot wait to be back.

worst service! I have my lunch there on jan.1, and the staff overturn the whole taco on my bag in accident. she just say sorry and left. when she came back she only clean the table and didn’t do nothing for me or my bag. during this time, nobody come to ask or apologize, they still ask me to pay for the full payment of my lunch, without discount. when we ask to see the manager, no one answer. I don’t care for the amount we need to pay, but the attitude of the staffs are unsatisfied. and I just ask them to pay me 1000peso for the cleaning. they let the poor girl standing there and say sorry to me. excuse me? is she a staff belong ur restaurant? as management you don’t have anything need to say it? I leave my phone number to u, till now no one calling or texting to me. I back to Manila today with my poor bag, the sales of longchamp told me it’s hard to remove. even the professional store told me can’t 100% to clean. recommended that guests who want to come to this restaurant should think more about it. There are many good hotels and restaurants in Sabang. big apple really not worth it. Part 2 You are the best screenwriter. Please send the CCTV to everyone. Very friendly place for a late night drink. Swimming pool. Pool table. Food. Unfortunately just the rear section of the original site still operates as Big Apple nowadays

This resort offers diving, diving certification, a tasty and good quality Filipino and Western food, a cosy and pleasant evening atmosphere in the restaurant and sports bar, a very beautiful setup around the pool (with nice LED lights in evening), a dedicated and helpful staff and not the least a professional, dedicated and proximity focused management team.

Absolutely amazing time there, staff were fantastic and the service was second to none. Food was beyond expectation, best pizza in the Philippines

The place is beautiful, but I had the soggiest Fish and Chips ever. The Gorgonzola and Bacon Pasta was tasty but way overcooked. Prices would be fair, but to add a 10% "kitchen fee" on top of the bill is totally ludicrous and greedy, particularly since the staff is paid starving salaries and this extra fee ends up in the owner's pocket. The portions were also the equivalent of our "children's fare". Also, my idea of romantic dining is not having a pool table with shrieking bar girls in the middle of the dining area. I'll never go back and would not recommend it to any of my friends.

I had valid concerns with my stay at Big Apple and when I brought them to their attention I was extorted and threatened with jail on my vacation! I am obligated to warn others. I had a couple issue at this resort and need the owner to help. Instead of helping, the officially unofficial owner, Jonathan Thorp, JT, blows up and starts making threats saying he is not someone to mess with. He say he doesn't like Americans and their attitudes. He is Australian. It's odd the resort is called the Big Apple, like New York City, and they don't like Americans. Issues I had were housekeeping not respecting the do not disturb. They went in my room twice while the sign was on the door. The rooms were also really hot because they cannot keep power going and do not have a generator. It is so hot you cannot use a blanket and then you get eaten by mosquitos all night. It is impossible to sleep. A couple of girls at the bar double charged me for food and beverages. They also told me a lower price for some shot and then the price on the bill was double. If you go to this bar keep a close eye on your tab. I DO NOT recommend billing anything to the room as you will be in for big surprise when you check out. I tried to get the bill sorted out with the owner JT when he flipped out on me. I handed him another 10,000 pesos and he threw it back at me in a fit. I checked out early and moved to another resort and then I get a summons complaint saying I have to go court today at 1. I gave them $30,000 pesos for 5 nights and 10 dives and now I have to go to court because he wants to be mean and create problems. Most business owners take feedback, resolve problems and fix the issues. At Big Apple you will get a canned excuse of, "this is the Philippines," like I should expect to get worked over by his bar staff among the other issues. This is in no way what I would call hospitality. I will update this after court today. I have notified the US Embassy as well as family regarding the threat from Jonathan Thorn and Big Apple. Definitely think twice before staying at the dump. There is a reason everyone in Sabang calls it the bad apple.||-----UPDATE: went to court and JT told his staff he was going to charge them if I didn't pay the double charges so they were there seemingly against their will under this tyrant. Then JT tells me in he will put me in jail under bogus human trafficking charges if I do not pay another $11,000 pesos! He claimed he owns one of the biggest hooker bars in Manila, LA Cafe! I would say he is very familiar with human trafficking. I realize I am in a foreign country and I cannot win so I pay the money and agree to take down the review to settle the matter. Later that night I get more threats from Jonathan saying that he is going to put me in jail anyway and that I should get on the next ferry out of there. So he extorts me for money with threats of jail and then I pay and he wants to be a bully and push me around even further. I left and I will never be back to Sabang. I feel sorry for the Big Apple staff who has to put up with this guy. Big apple is bad for tourism and bad for all businesses there. He gives a bad name to Australians. I am shocked they let this guy run around like this unchecked. Due to this guy not letting things go, the review is now here to stay and will be going up on all sites and shared with my followers.
