Palace of Westminster/Big Ben

"After visiting the royal palaces, get up to date with the more modern British governing system. Located just a short stroll from Westminster Abbey, the Palace of Westminster is a beautiful 19th-century building that’s home to the two Houses of Parliament: the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Take an audio or guided tour of the Royal Gallery, Lords Chamber, Members Lobby, and Commons Chamber to understand. Tours are available every Saturday and on weekdays when parliament is not in session. Walk in the footsteps of the country’s most famous leaders and discover the important proceedings that take place here. Attached to the building is the iconic Big Ben clock, currently under renovation. For the best views of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, stand on Westminster Bridge." - MATADOR_NETWORK

"Beautiful Big Ben This iconic landmark in London is popular for a reason...it's breathtaking! Did you know that Big Ben is the name of the bell inside the tower, not the clock? While you are there, check out the Houses of Parliament (if they are in session). Afterwards, stroll across the lovely bridge and rise the London Eye! By Nichole Pitts"

✨ Iconic Big Ben from the bridge — an unforgettable sight! ✨ Walking over Westminster Bridge and seeing Big Ben up close was truly magical. The tower is even more impressive in person, standing proudly over the Thames and reminding you of London’s rich history and timeless charm. The view from the bridge is perfect for photos — you can really feel the energy of the city all around you. If you’re in London, don’t miss the chance to see this iconic landmark from the bridge. Sometimes the simplest moments become the most memorable! 🇬🇧🕰️✨

An iconic landmark that truly lives up to the hype! Seeing Big Ben in person was an unforgettable experience — the detailed architecture, the chimes, and the atmosphere around Westminster were amazing. A must-visit spot in London for history lovers and first-time tourists alike. Don’t forget your camera — every angle is picture-perfect!

Such a beautiful place. I do not know why but every time I go I just love how it looks like. It is outstanding. I always take nice pics next to it😜. If you are in London you must go, it is free and it’s a iconic place to visit.

Visiting Big Ben was one of the most exciting parts of my trip to London! Even though you can’t go inside the clock tower unless you're a UK resident, just seeing it in real life was breathtaking. The tower is so tall, detailed, and beautiful – much more impressive than in pictures. What I loved most was the energy of the area around Big Ben. It's right next to the Houses of Parliament, and you can also walk across the Westminster Bridge to see the London Eye. Everything is close by and full of life. The sound of Big Ben’s chimes is something I’ll never forget. It feels like the heart of London beating. I also liked how clean and organized everything was – the area is very easy to explore with public transport (especially the Tube). If you’re visiting London, Big Ben is an absolute must. Take a photo, enjoy the view by the River Thames, and feel the atmosphere of one of the most iconic places in the world!

I visited Big Ben seven years ago – back then, it was completely under renovation and obscured by scaffolding. Today, I finally got to see it in its full glory. It looks beautiful and makes a huge impression! It's worth seeing in person, especially in good weather – a classic symbol of London at its finest. Everyone in the world has probably heard of Big Ben, like the Eiffel Tower or New York's Tome Square. If you're in London, you have to see it in person. It's absolutely stunning!😍

Google
Big Ben is one of London’s most iconic landmarks and a must see for any visitor! completed in 1859 with tall up to 99 meter. The clock tower is stunning, especially when it chimes on the hour, it truly captures the historic charm of the city. Located next to the Houses of Parliament and near the River Thames, it’s perfect for photos. Easy to reach by Tube (Westminster Station). A classic London experience you shouldn’t miss!

Google
Visiting Big Ben was truly a memorable experience for me — like a dream come true! Coming all the way from India, I had always seen this majestic clock tower in movies, magazines, and postcards. But standing in front of it in real life was a different feeling altogether — something you can’t explain in words! The architecture is simply magnificent. The tower, officially called the Elizabeth Tower, looks grand and royal, with a touch of historical charm. The detailing, the structure, and the way it proudly stands next to the Houses of Parliament — it's nothing short of a masterpiece. The clock itself is huge, and when it chimes, it feels like the entire city is listening. I went in the evening time, and with the golden light of sunset falling on the tower, it was just breathtaking. It's the perfect spot for clicking pictures and making travel memories. Truly Instagram-worthy! The area around Big Ben is also very lively and clean. You can see the River Thames, walk along Westminster Bridge, and even take a boat ride nearby. I would recommend all Indian tourists visiting London to keep Big Ben on the top of their travel list. It’s not just a clock — it’s a symbol of London’s soul.

Stunning 🤩 ⸻ Big Ben is one of the most iconic landmarks in London and the United Kingdom. Officially known as the Elizabeth Tower, it stands at the north end of the Palace of Westminster. Big Ben is often mistakenly used to refer to the entire tower, but it is actually the nickname for the Great Bell inside. Completed in 1859, the tower is over 96 meters tall and features a beautiful clock face that has become a symbol of British culture. Every hour, the deep chimes of Big Ben echo across the city, attracting millions of tourists each year.

Yelp
Big Ben is a must-stop if you're in London. It's conveniently located near Westminster Abbey and Parliament, so it's easy to stop by for a touristy picture. While we didn't do any sort of tour, they are available. We went to take pictures and check it off our London bucket list. It was especially beautiful in the evening, so I would recommend visiting after sunset if possible.
google avatar

Yelp
Big Ben was an awesome site as you start over the bridge walking closer and closer there is a glorious awe of the masterful architecture!! Heading forward also brings you thay much closer to Buckingham Palace. At the top of the hour Ben rang out letting everyone know it was noon!! Quick note if you want to climb inside you should book 3-6 months out or you'll end up like me with no access... You can buy tickets on the parliament website so keep an eye on when you can order it!!

Yelp
IT'S A CLOCK! - Big Ben is an iconic symbol of not just London but the entire country as a whole. Big Ben is actually the name of the bell inside the Tower, which was renamed Elizabeth Tower for the Queen's Jubilee in 2012, historically, it has held other names, including St Stephen's Tower. Walking along Westminster Bridge and the Thames, the 96-meter-tall tower shines from afar, if using the Underground, it will be right in front of you upon leaving Westminster Station. The surrounding areas do get incredibly busy and touristy, but this is the case at pretty much any attraction with any degree of prestige and fame. It is attached to the Houses of Parliament, which is home to democracy in the United Kingdom. For Americans reading this, the Houses of Parliament is like our version of Congress: we elect officials to represent us, with the party with the most officials (MPs) governing, and their leader becomes our Prime Minister. The tower is so impressive, and the bell now rings once more, it was under construction for a good number of years recently, so it's good to see it back and fully restored to its glory. It's an iconic symbol of the city, and it is certainly well worth visiting for the obligatory selfie marking your visit to London.

Yelp
When you think if London, Big Ben is one of the famous landmarks that come to mind. There's a tube station nearby for easy transportation and a great place to meet for many nearby pubs and restaurants. The tower, Westminster clock was built in 1863, 316 feet tall.. such a sight. The four nations of the United Kingdom are represented on the shields. Rose for England Thistle for Scotland Shamrock for Ireland Leek for Wales So many great viewing points to see this amazing tower.
google avatar

Yelp
This clock captures the essence of London. When you think of London, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Probably Big Ben. Which makes sense. It stands out. The clock has made an impression on you and the entire world. In person, it is so much bigger than I imagined. It's so tall! I guess I never thought about how big it would be lol it's really impressive in real life. Photos don't do it justice! Super fun to see it finally!
google avatar

Lizzie Y.

Yelp
Ah... so this is the famous Big Ben! It was beautiful and pictures don't do it enough justice. It is connected to the Palace of Westminster, aka Houses of Parliament. The Big Ben is a symbol of democracy here in UK. I wish we had more time to do tours when we were in London, but there's always next time ;)

Yelp
I have a friend named Ben so I HAD TO send him a picture of Big Ben for fun. It's just a cool historical site. Walked around the area and also got a great aerial shot on the London eye of it. Definitely would recommend seeing it at least once while in London.
google avatar

Tony H.

Yelp
Annoying fun fact that I heard and will now repeat as if I knew it all along. Elizabeth Tower is the name of the clock we see, and Big Ben is actually the bell inside that we hear.... Who knew!! Anyway Big Ben is a marvel that's totally worth your time to check out and snap a few pictures. One of the best viewing spots is right from the Westminster Bridge. I don't think there are any kind of tour options for Big Ben, but just coming here and checking out the surrounding area is worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
Big Ben is iconic. When you think of London, how can you not picture the iconic clock tower! For some of the best photos, cross the river to view Big Ben from the other side of the Westminster Bridge. There are spots near the river that are much less crowded but you can get some gorgeous pictures. As you near the tower, you get to see just how massive it is! It is so gorgeous and beautiful. My favorite sight in London!
google avatar

Ocean P.

Yelp
What an iconic landmark. Feels so majestic to see in person. Closed during winter, unable to get inside but you can get plenty of photos outside at many areas of the city. One of my favorite to see over and over. Never get tired of it. Highly recommend Book tickets 1-2 months in advance of your trip. These areas are highly congested. Watch your phones and personal effects. People walk close enough to touch you.

Yelp
Big Ben is synonymous with London and a landmark one should see once in their lifetime. It's just a giant clock tower but it's THE giant clock tower! We planned to come early so we can get photos with the least amount of people and vehicles in the background but London weather had different plans for us. Yes, there is a significantly less people in the early morning but it doesn't matter when it's raining so hard that you can barely make out Big Ben in the background. It was a great experience and I'm glad I didn't melt when the London sky poured on me. We came back hours later and the place was filled with people with lots of vehicle traffic. Congested would be an understatement. Not ideal but what can you do? It was a little disappointing that the weather was perfect on the last day we were in London but we didn't have time to go back for photos. It'll be great for all those that planned to visit that day though and hopefully they get some beautiful pictures. Definitely worthwhile landmark to visit when in London that's nearby to Westminster Abbey and London Eye.
google avatar

Rick P.

Yelp
If you're lucky enough to score tickets for the guided walking tour of the Elizabeth Tower; DO IT! Once in a lifetime tour guided by some amazing professionals that know and love the tower. 334 step to the top but you will get moments to take a break and learn of the history. Additionally you'll get up close and personal with the clock itself from standing behind the clock faces and even watching the entire mechanism in action. The star of the tour is obviously getting to stand inches from Big Ben to hear; and feel, one of the most unique bell tones ever. It's extremely limited and hard to get tickets; be patient and hopefully you'll get lucky.
google avatar

Alexandra P.

Yelp
When we turned the corner and saw Big Ben we all said 'wow!!' It stopped us in our tracks! It was so spectacular and beyond anything we could imagine. The images we have seen online don't do this historical site justice. I would recommend raising by in the evening to see it lit up in all of its glory next to the river.
google avatar

Andrea U.

Yelp
We got out of the tubes at Westminster station and we're right in front of Big Ben and the Thames River. The Westminster clock is an iconic landmark. It was built in 1863, stands 316 feet tall, and the climb from ground level to the belfry is 334 steps. Its base is square, measuring 40 feet on each side. Dials of the clock are 22.5 feet in diameter. All 4 nations of the United Kingdom are represented on shields featuring a rose for England, thistle for Scotland, shamrock for Ireland, & a leek for Wales.
google avatar

Janet D.

Yelp
I had the privilege of enjoying a trip to London and could not miss out on these fabulous landmarks. Big Ben was top of my list given my children's love of Peppa Pig. The architecture in London is second to none and I am so grateful for the experience and the awe inspiring beauty. If you get the chance, don't sleep on this one! The area is beautiful!
google avatar

Patrick D.

Yelp
This is actually the House of Parliament Building where the Big Ben clock resides. This is also actually called the St. Elizabeth's tower. Order! Order... yes this location is the symbol of England where house members love to debate!

Yelp
Hello mate, thanks for following me on my london journey. . This place is a must, if you don't come here for a selfie, we're you even in london? . The structure is amazing. Just walking close up and taking pics and videos is stunning. . Yes lots of crowd during week day and weekends. Bring comfy shoes because there is lots of walking involved. Becareful of your belongings. The pick pocket is real and quick without you knowing. One bump and your belonging is missing. . Mama had been pick pocket here. Her bag with the big compartment was opened. The little hidden pocket was unzipped in the big compartment. She has lots her pounds. She didn't even know til we had to pay for something in the gift shop. Make sure you wear your coats over the fanny pack or bag. If crossbody make sure it's high up so it's in your sight or can control. Don't let it swing near the hip or swing behind the butt area. . If you have read til here, thanks for reading mate. Give me a follow, vote useful if you find this review helpful. Send me a compliment if you have a thought. I would love to know. Have a bloody good day! Cheers mate.

Yelp
As a British citizen, it's not that cool it's kinda over hyped and boring. 3 stars just because it's not the worst thing in the world
google avatar

Yelp
Big Ben is more beautiful in person!!! Right across from London Eye and Queen Elizabeth Station, you will find Big Ben. The area is historic, crowded and very touristy. Watch your purses as you go through the thickness of the crowd on Westminister Bridge. I love the feeling of being in such a historic area. If you visit London it is a must-see. Put it on your list.
google avatar

Vanessa T.

Yelp
When in London... We only walked past to get some photos. I definitely recommend stopping by top of the hour to hear the dings and dongs lol. Wanted to see if Ben really was big. Ben wasn't big. Ben was massive.
google avatar

Shelby S.

Yelp
Had to come see Big Ben with the parliament buildings while in London. I highly recommend doing a hop-on, hop-off bus tour to get the whole backstory. It's a beautiful clock tower and made for some great photo opportunities for us. Even on a cloudy day, it was fun to see the structure. Lots of walking space nearby, so easy to get a view on various sides.
google avatar

Yelp
Easy to get to from the underground trolley fantastic view - really all the hot spots are in this area

Yelp
Big Ben is a British cultural icon recognized around the world. The historic landmark is one of the most prominent symbols of the United Kingdom where just one glimpse of it and people are like, "aah yes, that's Big Ben, that's London!" Even my little one was excited to see Big Ben and it was all he could talk about until we finally saw it in person. Sure it's a huge tourist attraction, but it's a must see and cannot be missed. Big Ben, which is the nickname for the Great Bell in the Great Clock of the Palace of Westminster, was built in the mid 1800's. In 2012, the tower which Big Ben is located was renamed from Clock Tower to the Elizabeth Tower to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. After four years of careful renovation which came at a hefty price tag, Big Ben now has an even brighter gold exterior and refreshed clock face. It's beautiful and shined so brightly on a clear summer day. It looks so much more bold and shiny compared to our first visit 13 years ago and I'm so glad we got to see it again. I highly recommend sitting in the park across the way to take in the view and admire the gothic architecture of one of the world's most famous clocks.
google avatar

Jason R.

Yelp
Definitely worth a visit, especially at night. You can get a wonderful photo in front of the giant clock. Afterwards, you can cross the street and get a nice photo by the London Eye. I just caution you it is a heavily trafficked area-- so be cognizant of that when stopping to get photographs here!
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
Such a majestic beautiful landmark. One should simply make their way to view this historic clock tower . This is the one of the tourist attractions that not only is free but full of history.
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
I haven't seen Big Ben in over five years or longer, and the updates look amazing. It is very scenic and a quintessential London view.
google avatar

Wendy C.

Yelp
The Elizabeth Tower is not only a place for exceptional photos but the history is interesting. The area is crowded, however a place to visit while staying in London.

Chris A.

Yelp
wasn't as "big" as I thought but still very cool to see in person. It was packed here as well and some construction going on

Georgette A.

Yelp
It really is big. Seen this monument on TV my whole life, amazing seeing it in person.
google avatar

Yelp
When in London you HAVE to see Big Ben. It has been tarted up recently and looks majestic.
google avatar

Yelp
Big Ben is a must when you visit London. Yup I've been there and done that! I like clocks and stop to photograph when I see one. I'm sure I've got photos of Big Ben but I'm also sure they are faded. I've got the picture in my head! I don't forget my most memorable peak experiences in life. Seeing Big Ben and being in London is a wonderful vacation! If you are going to London it's a must. Funny how I can write so much and not say anything!
google avatar

Demond S.

Yelp
I am a huge fan of history and culture. It was awesome to see the fabled "Big Ben". It is a part of Londons history. It has been around nearly 180 years. The clock tower is on great shape. Worth the visit.
google avatar

Heidy M.

Yelp
On part of a recent birthday trip to London I fell in love with Big Ben all over again. There is nothing like seeing it in person, and the feelings you feel. Just truly amazing! It's centrally located to so many attractions, the tube and the Uber Boat. The area can get extremely busy and I would suggest visiting early morning for great photos or late at night.Taxis are easy to come by but you can walk to pretty much anywhere from Westminster Abbey to the London Eye in only a few minutes. The Uber Boat is right under the bridge and that will take you to the Tower Bridge in about 20 minutes for 7 euros. I highly recommend a stop at Big Ben, take your time, enjoy the scenery and enjoy every minute. There is truly no place like London.
google avatar

jacob n.

Yelp
Elizabeth Tower it's called but the clock is actually Big Ben. Pretty cool sight to see From S.C.

Yelp
One of the most iconic landmarks of London. When I think of London, I think of Big Ben so it was a must see during our day there. So glad to see it in it's full beauty as renovations are complete!
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible piece of Art !! The renovations are finally completed (picture was during it). When you think about London, this is exactly what comes to your mind !
google avatar

Yelp
Big Ben is something magical. It doesn't matter which part of the day you go look at it because it is so impressive. Quick fact: Big Ben is only the clock portion of this building. I really loved looking at Big Ben.
google avatar

Aisha S.

Yelp
Good place to visit. It is a must visit when you're in London. Definitely worth a visit during the late evenings. One can get a beautiful picture of the big ben in the background.
google avatar

Erica C.

Yelp
4/3/23 - 4/5/23 - no construction on the Big Ben anymore. Easily viewable most anywhere in the daytime and nighttime. Great view from the London Eye. Take photos anytime of the day. There are Undergrounds, aka subway that once you exit the Big Ben is right there. Also, you will be shocked when you hear it chime! Have fun. Cheers. No photos on this one.
google avatar

minty b.

Yelp
You need to come and see this beautiful tower when you're in London. I thought that it's Big Ben, but Big Ben is actually a bell inside the tower and the official name is "Elizabeth Tower" according to my tour guide.
google avatar

Delilah S.

Yelp
now this is historic. i truly admire gothic architecture so seeing this in person was worth the trip. cannot visit the city without seeing this at least once!

Yelp

Yelp
An extraordinary and historic view of the Big Ben as soon as you walk out for the train station.

Yelp
It's currently under reconstruction and renovation, and has been so since 21 August 2017. It's planned that the Big Ben will be silent for 4 years, so while there isn't too much to review right now, I am certainly happy to still be able to catch it during my first time here in England! Big Ben is full of history embedded into its gorgeous gothic architecture ever since it was completed back on 31 May, 1859. It's an iconic cultural symbol of the UK, and is often seen as an establishing shot in films set in England. Fun fact: On the clock's face, the hour hand is 9 feet (2.7 m) long and the minute hand is 14 feet (4.3 m) long. If you go on the London Eye, you can't miss the Big Ben! It's a great location with a lot of other touristy things neighboring it, like Westminster Abbey, where there are a LOT of people crowding to go in. Big Ben is right by Parliament Square, where there are a bunch of red telephone booths, perfect for that cheesy London tourist photo. On the side of Parliament Square facing Westminster Abbey are the red telephone booths in the most popular spots to take those photos, since you can get the Big Ben in your shot. When I first arrived, not knowing that the Big Ben was under construction, I was confused with where the Big Ben was, until I looked into its direction from the phone booth I wanted to take my photo with, and went, "Wait, that's Big Ben???" I felt like I had met a date who looked nothing like his photo from his dating profile. Okay, that was a mean joke. We still love you, Big Ben, I know you're just going through a rough patch and in 2021, you'll be more glorious than ever.
google avatar

Francine L.

Yelp
Big Ben is one of the most iconic spots to look at when your in London. It is a large clock tower but at the moment it is getting worked on so the photos aren't really that great. It's still nice to come and see it for a few minutes, you can visit other places near by like the Westminster Abbey, London Eye, and the Buckingham Palace. Very close and walkable. Take a few minutes here and try to plan your day with other activities close by! Overall it's still an alright place to go but yeah it's still not done yet. The clock is pretty old it has been around since 1859!!!! So of course it sometimes needs to get some work done. If your into architecture this is a spot to come by and also it is pretty famous and well known.
google avatar

Maulik M.

Yelp
Big Ben - One of the iconic buildings in London is closed for construction till 2021. With the scaffolding of work around the view becomes more interesting at night, when the monument is illuminated and the work appears less. The House of Parliament and Elizabeth Tower, commonly called Big Ben, are among London's most iconic landmarks and must-see London attractions. This is located at superb location at Bank of river Thames and have easy access by the Tube and bus route as well. You get a really good views of both buildings from the London Eye :)
google avatar

Allison R.

Yelp
Beautiful!! Really spectacular architecture. Well worth a stop on your travels through London.
google avatar

Dave C.

Yelp
While visiting London over ten times now, I always make it a point to walk across the Westminster Bridge and visit Big Ben and the Parliament. At any time, you can visit the Big Ben clock tower and the building of the Houses of Parliament from the outside. The Houses of Parliament is open for tours almost every Saturday and several days from late July to early October. If you are looking for a good photo spot for the Big Ben, you should check the view from the nearby Westminster Bridge. A Big Ben clock tower tour is unfortunately not possible for foreign tourists. Locals can contact their member of Parliament to request a visit permit. Nevertheless, due to its popularity the Big Ben is part of the typical sightseeing program. At the Houses of Parliament you can choose between various possibilities for a tour. You can watch committees and debates for free in the House of Commons and the House of Lords. These take place during the week. If you are looking to see Peter Pan, Wendy, John, and Michael Darling sitting on the Clock Tower Hands before flying to NeverLand, you will be let down, since their last time being in London was in 1953.. :)
