Our trip to Turks and Caicos coincided with Hurricane Oscar making landfall, so we had quite a bit of stormy weather. However, on the one clear day we were lucky to get, we jumped at the chance to go kayaking in the mangroves and visit Iguana Island. We rented our kayaks from Big Blue Collective, and they were fantastic!
I had emailed them a few days before to confirm timing, as kayaking is dependent on the high tide. They were very responsive and helpful, so I highly recommend calling ahead for anyone planning to go. When we arrived, the staff was incredibly friendly and gave us a thorough briefing before we headed out on the water.
My husband and I opted for a tandem kayak and spent about two hours paddling around the mangroves and exploring Iguana Island. We were able to spot some turtles and iguanas, which made the experience even more memorable. The water was a bit rough, which may have been due to the hurricane, but it just required a little more effort on our part. If you’re generally active, you shouldn’t have any issues handling it.
Overall, we had a great experience renting from Big Blue Collective. Even though we did the excursion on our own, I can imagine their guided tours would be excellent too. Highly recommend them for anyone looking to explore the natural beauty of Turks and Caicos!
