"Back to the 80s Cafe is a shrine to popular culture, plastered in posters, tapes, and records of nostalgic favorites. With an arcade, great diner food, a TV looping classic MTV music videos, and plenty of memorabilia on sale, Back to the 80s Cafe is a kitschy dreamland. The refrigerator is stocked with throwbacks such as Jolt Cola and Tab, which pair nicely with Tetris-shaped tater tots. You can order imaginative shakes such as the cinnamon-swirl “Madonna” or the “Urkel” (which adds Nerds candies to cotton candy ice cream), then head back to the arcade for a round of Pac-Man, Galaga, Donkey Kong, or Ghostbusters pinball. You’ll find Pee-wee Herman trading cards, movie posters, two-dollar vinyl records, and more. The restaurant hosts frequent karaoke and trivia nights. There’s a great atmosphere inside, and no detail is spared when there is a chance to reference New Wave stars or cult films. Omg. Go. Don't ask questions, just go. Food is *amazing*. If you are lucky enough to be here when it's open, order the whole menu. Order everything twice. Not only is the food amazing, but it is affordable. Nothing is skimped on. The tri-tip and the turkey are both super juicy, The only hot dog that is better, is at Costco, and I would be open to arguments saying this place is better. I have yet to get something from here that I do not like and dream about for the next week

Big Boss Cafe is without a doubt the best sandwich I've had in probably a decade. When I first took a bite I instantly felt as if I was transported back in time to my early childhood. Memories of to when I would get a turkey sandwich and go to the park with friends. In the past decade since the recession Ive seen every sandwich restaurant I love decrease the quality of their bread in order to maintain high profit margins. Stale bread, cooked the nights before or shipped in on trucks and stored in freezers, full of low quality grains and almost flavorless by the time its put onto a sandwich. I feel like we've become accustomed to bread just kind of tasting bland. But here bread was fresh, and full of strong flavor. It was apparent that quality and flavor was the driving factor behind these sandwiches. The sandwich alone would've been enough to warrant a 5 stars, but the fact that everything else on the menu, from the drinks to the hotdogs, are solid as well makes this place even better.

Google
I must say the tri-tip dip is one of the best dips I have had in a long time if you have not tried it yet it's a must I will be telling all my friends about Big Boss

Google
OMG, Tri-Tip Dip amazing ever . Guys Thanks for cervice . I'm recommended for all

Google
Good tri tip dip. It's located right in front of Home Depot, a little hard to find. Worth and it's cheaper than most sandwich places these days anyway

Google
Ok there is now a reason to go to this Home depot, Big Boss Cafe! The sandwiches are unreal. This guy is an artist. Give it a try you won't be disappointed..

Google
You might not expect great things from a food joint in front of a Home Depot. But let me tell you big boss Cafe will shatter any expectations you may Harbor. This sandwich was absolutely amazing. I cannot recommend this place enough. The portions were generous for the price.

Google
BIG BOSS. METAL GEAR. SNAAAAAAAAAKE!!! Not sure if this is a Kojima reference or not, but the place is dope. Tri tip sandwiches are great and the dude who runs the place is cool. Baguette roll is nice and crunchy.

Yelp
For a shack in front of a Home Depot, they know how to whip up a delicious f****** sandwich. I got the tri tip dip. I wish they gave me more au jus sauce however the sandwich was fantastic! The bread was soft, the tri tip was a little fatty, but good, the pesto was amazing, the onions were bussin, and the cheese was alright. Highly recommend for a quick grab (if there's no line). Not to mention they even have VEGGIE options.

Yelp
My husband is a huge sandwich fan and was curious about this place since it's next to Home Depot. When you think of a great sandwich place, a place right by Home Depot doesn't seem like it'll wow you but they received so many stellar reviews on Yelp, that my husband wanted to try them out. Service was 10/10. My husband said the service was great and the owner was a really nice guy. He was very friendly and customer-oriented. The sandwich itself was 2/10. The sandwich was lacking flavor and there were limited options for toppings. The bread was also too crispy. My husband didn't like it, he said it was flavorless, but asked me to try it to see what I thought. I tasted it and it really tasted like nothing. Also, the price was pretty steep, around $13 ($9.50 for the sandwich and $2.35 for extra meat), for a sandwich that didn't taste good or like anything at all. We love to support small businesses and that's why we tried this place out, and while we appreciate the great service, this place is off of our list of places to go back to.

Yelp
Big Boss is THE Boss of the Tri Tip Sammie and All-Beef Polish Dogs! The service was fantastic. I was greeted by a very welcoming gentlemen, served my drink promptly (cherry limeade which was perfectly flavored), and given a well packaged and hot Tri-Tip Dip and Denmark Dog. Both were AMAZING! I wanted more Remy sauce bc it's SOOOOO good. All the sauces and toppings are used to build flavor - not cover. Do not miss Big Boss Cafe!

Yelp
let me say this. this place is directly next to the exit doors of a home depot...yes, home depot. My first impressions..."i don't think so". I even walked to the order window and looked at the menu and walked away. I couldn't bring myself to order from here. Who eats from an Home Improvement establishment situated by the exit doors? But i was curious, So checked the yelp reviews - 90-95% positive reviews. Well, always trust fellow Yelpers. And they were absolutely correct. I walked back and asked the owner his recommendation. He said that they only use the freshest ingredients and recommended their beef sandwiches- can't go wrong, but they were out of beef. Darn. But he immediately suggested their Black Cadillac (5 oz of tender sliced tri tip, black garlic butter, sliced white onions, parmesan cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a sweet balsamic glaze. Drum roll....wow, OMG, Sweet! this was definitely one of the most testiest, most tender, juicy, most flavorful tri tip sandwiches that i have every had. The sandwich roll does remind me of a banh mi bread roll- fresh, soft/chewy inside with a tender crunchy outside crust. this sandwich was exceptionally good. Well balanced- not too much meat or other supporting ingredients that would overpower some sandwiches - just the perfect combination of protein and veggies....again wow. This sandwich was a 10. I generally rave about sandwiches from corti brothers or the deli in San Francisco and Half Moon Bay, but this place is hands down better than Corti Brothers but maybe even the bay area places. I can't even believe i am saying that. And forget about the pocket pita sandwiches from Pocket Deli down the street-that place doesn't even hold a torch to this place. This is a destination location and not just because you are in the area. yes it is that good. And was worth the $13. Can't wait to return to try the offerings...maybe tomorrow!!!!

Yelp
The cook / owner was very pleasant and told us we could pull our car in front while waiting for our orders. He even checked to make sure I realized I was ordering a nonmeat item. It was all delicious and the bread was crusty and fresh. Priced well too. The next time you're at Home Depot or driving by you should patronize this spot.

Yelp
as a Original SF deli owner from 1999, and being in the 916 for over 20 years... Ive been looking for that sandwich for a long time. Roxy's in midtown was the only close one ,but Big Boss Cafe, hands down best dang sandwich in the greater 916. The Black Cadillac is a staple of my work week now, and one of the homies fine crafted iced drinks. Bread 10, location 10 (tons of parking) service 20, very friendly and professional. If you've been looking for the best hot sambo around, get down to HD and see Big Boss.

Artur S.

Yelp
First time here. Really good sandwitch. They serve with very fresh bread and the meat and stuff is very fresh too. Also this is Slightly more affordable on average than the sandwiches by my house which is also a good plus. I Recommend it

Sirek L.

Yelp
Gem in a rock. This sandwich spot is the spot you've never seen or heard of but is absolutely one of the best. The bread they use for sandwiches are more of a baguette. They remind me of the sandwiches used in Banh Mi (which I love). The baguette is so fresh! You know it is by how it crumbles all over everytime you take a bite. Here are my top 3 recommendations: 1) Cordova Club - Honestly.. this is arguably the best sandwich in Rancho Cordova. At least it's certainly my favorite on this side of Sac county. The sauce, baguette, and fresh deli cut & veggies really make it a treat with every bite. No ingredient is over added and it's not too suacy to the point of saltiness. It's just that good. 5/5. 3) Cadillac Tri-Tip - Wow this one was amazing. The tomatoes, onion, sauce, and tri tip was perfectly savory and such a good combo. The meat is cooked perfectly and I just love how fresh all of the ingredients taste. Loved this one and will be going back for more. 5/5. 4) Peach Sweet Tea - There are two things that make this my favorite drink here: The fact that it's made with real peaches and that it's the perfect level of sweetness. Good sweet tea is hard to find because most places make it too sweet. The level here is perfect and I can't emphasize that enough. Very refreshing to have year-round, so you can imagine how good it is in the summer. Keep making great food and using the fresh ingredients that you are!

Yelp
Amazing food, drinks and great service. All my kids were pleased and most of all full.

Yelp
Found this little spot randomly on our way to kayak at Lake Natoma. Almost missed it it's so tiny, but I'm so glad we found it. The tri tip sandwiches are AMAZING! Service was great, super friendly and quick. They even packed us some wet naps and utensils/napkins because we mentioned we were eating on the lake. We tried the Black Cadillac & Smokey Saucy tri tips and the turkey pesto. Honestly you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. I've already been back once, and will definitely be returning again next time we're back up that way.

Yelp
What more can you ask for? Great customer service, delicious sandwiches- esp the bread and sauce (house remy), and quick (call ahead to order if you're in a time crunch)! Definitely going to be a regular addition to my lunch options.

Bella B.

Yelp
Stellar cooks out here at Home Depot! Some of the best sandwiches I've ever had and at a great price. You won't be disappointed.

Ceara M.

Yelp
I had a flat tire and had a long 2 hour wait. I looked into the local food options and noticed the great reviews for this spot. Wow! I am so glad that I gave them a try. The sandwich was delicious and the ingredients were incredibly fresh. The gentleman working the counter was friendly and provided great customer service. I can't wait to bring my husband next time. Thank you for serving delicious food and making my bad day turn around!

Yelp
Head to the Home Depot in Rancho Cordova on Sunrise, and stop by Big Boss Cafe right out front! You will not be disappointed if you're looking for one of the best sandwiches or hot dogs you've ever had! The owner Kelly is well worth the visit~he's great. alice

Yelp
You would be surprised! This place is located by or technically inside Home Depot. They have their little shack kind of outside of it. My boyfriend and I wanted to try some new sandwiches and this spot looked really good. The staff was super helpful and friendly for our first time. The bread was crispy, crunchy, and delicious. Super important when it comes to a great sandwich. Will definitely have to try the hot dogs next time.

Tyler W.

Yelp
Diamond in the rough. Tried this place out of convenience and wasn't disappointed. One of the better Tri tip sandwich Iv had in awhile. Keep up the good work.

Russell D.

Yelp
The big boss café is right out in front of Home Depot in Sunrise in Rancho Cordova. I was happy to see an eatery out front because I used to visit them pre-pandemic and most of them had shut down for a while. My first time at big boss was yesterday and I tried the saucy try tip sandwich With grilled onions. It was served on a delicious toasted roll that was crunchy, and the sandwich lived up to its name because it was nice and saucy sauce a great flavor and there's a good amount of tri-tip and onions. I had to return to the same Home Depot today so I decided to try the tri-tip dip. Once again they delivered a nice toasted crunchy roll a good amount of tri-tip they put their house sauce on there with cheddar cheese and grilled red onions and the Aja sauce they gave me had a hint of Worcestershire flavor which I love it was absolutely delicious! I would come here just for lunch!

Nathaniel T.

Yelp
They have great food and refreshing drinks here. Great customer service. I would suggest to get a sandwich with a drink. They pair great.

Miriam C.

Yelp
This place has the best tri-tip sandwich with really fresh crunchy bread! A definite must try!

Anton D.

Yelp
Delicious food! We stopped by here after going to home depot and saw this spot. We're impressed how great and delicious the food here! We ordered the Tri Tip Salad, Denver Dog and ice tea! It's superb! We can't wait to go back again tomorrow :)

Andrew L.

Yelp
Absolutely... Amazing!! Don't miss out simply because this little restaurant is in front of Home Depot. This is quality. Excellent sandwiches and other options. Greats service and prices and the place is actually really clean too. (Rare for Sac ) Highly recommend

Cate M.

Yelp
What a treat to discover the Big Boss Cafe in front of Home Depot. I thought there were just hot dog stands in front of these places. The personable service is outstanding, but the food is what will keep you coming back over and over and over. Highly recommend the tri-tip sandwich with Willow's black garlic. Prices are very fair for the quality food. Continued success. Let's all patronize the Big Boss to keep it running.

Salvador O.

Yelp
Wow best hot dog I've had in a log time. The house pickles are out of this world. Highly recommend this place. The staff is great ! I recommend getting 2 of these hot dogs because you will devour the first one you'll be left wanting a second

Ed G.

Yelp
Try my favorite sandwich the " black cadilac" it has fresh ingredients, it's soo delicious! The tea and lemonade are refreshing on a hot day and the coffee is better than Starbucks. Best of all there is great service!

Angie B.

Yelp
I had the hotdog and it was during lunch hours. It tasted like it was left over from the day before. The French fried onions were stale. One bite and I threw it out.

Sean O.

Yelp
That Turkey pesto is definitely going to make them famous. This is the best sandwich in town.

Luke C.

Yelp
The experience: Off the bat the service was great and I was happy to be able to watch them make my sandwiches! The sandwiches were made with care and the kitchen was super clean. It's a spot in front of the Home Depot so it's a take away food n coffee spot, with a little bit of a food truck vibe. The food: omg these were amazing sandwiches. They toast the bread which typically sketches me out at places because places will always over toast and have cheap bread and it cuts the ever living out of my mouth, but I was sooo happy to find that the bread was so perfectly toasted it had a firmness but the crunch gave way easily and comfortably. I have literally been geeking out over the perfection of the toast since I had my sandwich. I had the Turkey pesto which they make with prosciutto as well as Turkey which is just . The pesto sauce is bold and thick delicious, not too oily and not overpowering. They use a spring mix lettuce not that iceberg business, which made for a much better texture and didn't water down the flavor. Even with fresh tomato the sandwich never dripped out on me which my ocd greatly appreciated. The ingredients were super fresh and after my sandwich I don't feel weighed down. I'm bummed I didn't get any of the coffees but I will definitely be back to try more! Summary: don't let it's location fool you. super legit sandwiches, with the best toasting I've ever had! Get a sandwich here. You will be happy.

Claudia L.

Yelp
The hot dog was wonderful. The sandwich had fresh ingredients. I was so surprised at how delicious everything was from this small shop in front of Home Depot. The coffee was very satisfying and had wonderful taste. I highly recommend this place for a quick bite and coffee

Israel D.

Yelp
Horrible food they didn't even cook their meat sandwich fully and I ended up eating it uncooked, currently having issues with food poisoning hopefully this goes away quick , really regret going here, always double check if your food is cooked.

Michelle B.

Yelp
So excited we found this little treasure of a sandwich shop. When I mapped it, it brought us to Home Depot and I was confused until I saw it was a little cafe connected. Great service, awesome menu selection and prices. The bread will have me coming back again. Crispy and you could tell it was fresh. Well done Big Boss. Well done.

Matthew S.

Yelp
Had the Italian Boss sandwich, my son and I thought it was very good and the ingredients were fresh. The guy working the counter was friendly and even made a chocolate milk for my son, on the house, saved me trip to Starbucks. Kitchen was VERY clean, now that I know it's here in front of HomeDepot, will save me time not having to stop and get something to eat on those weekend warrior trips.

Justin R.

Yelp
Every time I come here I get great service and the food is spectacular. For as small as the spot is they do big things . Hence the name Big Boss cafe. My favorite is the Cordova club but the turkey pesto and the tritip (in any fashion )is amazing. To wash it all down the boss Palmer is the way to go. Perfect for that in between job snack or on the go lunch. If you get a chance, stop by !!! Oh don't forget to try the denmark dog !!

Britt R.

Yelp
Sandwiches are dope as fuck. Can't be disappointed. And the owner is super chill. The hotdogs are also amazing.

Tim C.

Yelp
A lot better then I expected. Hot dog was fire. Coffee put peep in my step. I highly recommend if you need a quick coffee or a fast hot dog.

Angela H.

Yelp
yummmm! This delicious little gem is conveniently located right out in front of the Home Depot I was pleasantly surprised to see such a neat and clean little restaurant being ran by 3 dudes. I ordered 2 create your own sandwiches with all the goodness on them, one Halal roast beef and one turkey and Genoa salami.. I really appreciate how everything was actually placed on my sandwich and not just the subway style, dump all the stuff on the bread. The bread has a perfect sweetness to it and is nice and fresh. But....I must say that the Denmark Dog that I ordered was those fried onions and whatever kind of kitchen witchery was put into that remoulade sauce!!! What!!!! great customer service, and an excellent price point. If your looking for a quick delicious lunch go check these guys out, you won't regret it!

Adonis L.

Yelp
REALLY GOOD PRICES and Really good food. Highly recommend especially for food on the go Staff is also really friendly, just walking up to the stand I could smell the fresh bread, really surprised me being a little hole in the wall.

Jacob M.

Yelp
This place has the best hot dog you can get in all of Sacramento! The food was amazing with the Dutch hot dog and the Turkey pesto sandwich. I was recommended this place by a family member who is friends with the owner and when I arrived the service was amazing and the person who helped me who I assume is the owner was very kind and conversational with me and made sure i had a great experience. I will definitely be coming back here!
