Big Boulder Ski Resort is a great spot for a day on the slopes, offering a surprising mix of terrain for a smaller mountain. Whether you’re a beginner or looking for more challenging runs, there’s something for everyone. I found the lodge is clean and well-maintained, providing a nice place to relax. The staff is friendly and accommodating, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. It was perfect for a quick ski trip.

My boyfriend and I took my kids (teenagers) snow tubing for the first time and this was such a great experience. The staff was attentive and helpful plus the mountain paths for snow tubing were so perfect. We all had a great time and definitely recommend this activity with your family or as a date! Next up, is to try and learn skiing!!

Google
Great place! Snow tubing and skiing. Reasonable price. Entertainment for the whole family. The concessions had a very low inventory. They should have more holiday drinks & snacks!

Google
We love coming to Big Boulder for night skiing on weekdays. Lines are non-existent, the staff are super friendly and helpful, and they keep the trails covered with dusty powder. They offer tubing, but I haven't tried that yet. The mountain is right next to a lake, and it makes the view beautiful. Highly recommend this resort!

If you are looking for foliage, beautiful lake view and easy hiking trail. They have a lot of picnic area and BBQ grill. You can’t miss Bear Mountain!

I have been visiting Big Boulder for over 20 years and now refuse to visit because I consider what Vail has done to this place abhorrent. Vail resorts took the small ski area that had the BEST culture in the mid Atlantic region, fired the staff, got rid of the terrain park, and essentially removed everything that made this place great. Just go to Shawnee. You'll get the same experience with better trails.

I visited Big Boulder for the first time on President’s Day weekend and was expecting to be disappointed. I say that as a skier who learned in Vermont as a kid and skied big mountains in Maine during college. Well, everything about my experience here was positive!! Went tubing the first night and had some good laughs but don’t think I’d do it again. The wait to go down was a bit long and cold when just standing there. Mainly did this as a family friendly activity. Conditions on the mountain were really good with fresh snow and cold weather. Having not skied in 20 years, I needed to rent some gear. This was easy and paid for before my trip. Staff in the rental area were all nice and helpful. Only took a couple minutes to get my gear and head to a lift - awesome. There was plenty of snow with little ice or slick conditions and not many people until around 12pm. Parking was easy as well, if you arrive early. That’s really key. If I’d go again then I’d get here when they open on a weekend otherwise, hit the slopes at night.

Google
Update: now under the umbrella of Vail resorts, changes have been mixed. Some lifts have closed and others consolidated, but snowmaking seems more aggressive. More of a corporate mountain feel and less of a small independent mini-european ski area like in years past, but the rest of my original review stands. Beautiful scenery over the lake in winter. -- For what it is, Big Boulder is a staple classic Poconos ski area. It's a relatively small mountain, but it's got enough terrain to satisfy expert skiers for a day on the mountain. Snowmaking and night skiing round out the experience to ensure you'll be able to get your runs in. Four stars because it tends to fill up easily and quickly on busy weekends, and trail closures for the race program can occasionally be annoying, but they're also fun to watch. Food is expensive and limited. Lifts are slow but the small mountain means it's tolerable. Overall good experience every time.

Yelp
The operation hour in big boulder is very limited, usually from 3-8 pm on weekdays, good thing is that we could use the same lifting ticket from Jack Frost to access this ski mountain. We went during the Xmas / New Year holiday week, but they closed down two out of the four lifts. There were a few beginning trails, but I felt they still seemed very challenging. Two of my boys went on the blue and black trails and they said those trails were okay. The staff seemed very friendly and helpful, but the food was very pricy. Parking lots was big, but the roads were terrible and lots of bumps in the parking lot.

Yelp
So Vail took over Big Boulder and changed the whole scene by limiting the terrain parks dramatically, which is whst they were specifically known for years. It was a business plan shakeup and now the resort is more like its competitors in the area, as opposed to being the resort that sets itself apart. The small mountain resort still has its fun trails but it needs something to lure people in like discounted midweek lift tickets

Yelp
I recently got to visit big boulder and had a great time taking part in the snow tubing. For $40 you can take part in as much you want for 2 hours. The lines can get quite long the staff do a great job of getting through the line and give clear instructions on what is and isn't allowed. This is a great fun family friendly activity to do.

Yelp
This was my first going Skiing/ Snowboarding or tubing. Came here as a planned group trip for my cousins birthday. We initially went to the Jack Frost location around 3pm and we were informed they were closing at 4, but Big Boulder would be able to accommodate (with our same rentals, etc) and they were also doing the night ski. We arrived at big boulder and parked immediately, as there is a large parking area. There are several buildings which should be labeled a little better. We completely skipped the rental checking and went directly to the equipment rentals. We were informed that we were supposed to to go the "first" building first but they were happy to help nonetheless. The equipment rental was Easy. They made sure you had all you necessary equipment prior to stepping out. After that was completely lost. I saw ppl going to different ski lifts but I had no idea which were beginner, intermediate or advanced slopes. I had to ask around and made my way there. I went with a group who skied in the past so they gave me a crash course but I recommend taking a class. I got on the slopes and had an amazing time skiing the beginners slopes. I went up the slopes of 10 and on fell 2 times (as a beginner). But, I was exercising on an elliptical machine to get my knees and muscles acclimated. I got over zealous and went onto and advanced slope with jumps and logs. I tried to game plan how I was going to jump the ramp... EPIC FAIL. Went down the slope at high speeds, did a half backflip and landed on head. Skies went flying off, my hamstring sore and thankfully I had on a helmet. I survived to write this review so it was worth the store. Also, what makes Big Boulder a 5 in my opinion is its additional amenities. There is a restaurant, bar and live band. It was great grabbing some food, a drink and enjoy the local talent. I loved my experience here and I will definitely be planning a family vacation/ outing here. Thanks Big Boulder. PRICEY $$$$

Yelp
Great place to go skiing or snowboarding. They have many different slopes at different levels. The slope pass can be expensive so I recommend getting an epic pass
google avatar

Adam L.

Yelp
Parking on Saturday was quite challenging. There was no waiting line for the check in. With Epic Pass, we were able to go straight for the ski lift without any problems. There was DJ playing music by the Tannenbaum lift, which provided some entertainment while waiting in the long line. It was disappointed that not all trails were open. When we took a break, there was a live band performance in the Main Lodge at 4pm Saturday January 14.

Yelp
Been coming to the Big Boulder area for a few years. Haven't been disappointed yet. An ideal place for any season but we've been enjoying it for our winter holiday activities of skiing and tubing.
google avatar

Huyen C.

Yelp
Okay, this park is near Jack Frost and we were told to check it out if we were more experienced. My husband and his friends enjoyed this park more. Snow was better, they have a park where you can ride rails, etc. Staff is friendly, and the lunch area is bigger than Jack Frost. Definitely not a huge mountain, but was fun for our group.
google avatar

Ben M.

Yelp
Don't let this Ski Resort crush your dreams. The staff was rude. I was running late coming to the snowboarding class. The people at the front desk told me I should not even go to class because "I was going to hold everyone back" I went anyway and in the 30 minutes that was left in class I learned how to leaf with my heels from hearing the teacher and watching the student's techniques. (See pic. I have the video but Yelp cant post videos) If you ever feel like you can't do something because someone tells you can't and tells you are a burden, remember this review of a snowboarder who couldn't even balance his first time and learned how to brake and leaf.

Monica P.

Yelp
Let's start with how efficient they are from checking to the rental's of all the equipment. The staff are amazing and friendly. Ok enough of that let's talk about Sharisa and how amazing she is. My friend's son Lost his phone on the hill at the end of the night. She literally without hesitation took my friend's phone went up the hill and went down the slope looking for his phone. This was all when the slopes were closed. And everyone was already closing for the night. What amazing customer service.

Yelp
First time here. Everyone who has had experience said this would be a good beginner hill. We did go right after an ice rain so it was pretty icy and not the best conditions. They were extremely strict with vac cards. You had to have it to even go to the bathroom. Which I think is ridiculous. Inside is small and very cafeteria like. Very dated in the rental/locker area. Decent parking.

Gabrielle F.

Yelp
Why r kids sitting at the bar I got tackled by a 3ft human w a Shirley temple for a barstool. Bartenders are great though
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
Unsafe for children. My daughter needed to us the bathroom. She is too young to use the bathroom alone. My wife was refused entry to bathrooms with my daughter because my wife is not vaccinated. She was told she would have to take our young child into a bar where there was clearly intoxicated guests. Not a situation she felt was safe. As she is being turned away, skiers begin shouting for medical help yelling aa child is unconscious on the hill. By this time I had arrived. My wife leaves to assist (she is a healthcare worker). Her and and an emt assess the kid, c-spined the kid, and assured he didn't aspirate as he vomited. It look snow patrol a long time to arrive. My wife ran up the hill, with ski boots on, and waited 10-15 minutes for snow patrol to show up. This kid had a potential traumatic head injury (initially unconscious, questionable seizure activity, vomiting, loss of memory, mouth and nose bleeding). The lodge was informed at the same time my wife was. Why does it take 15-20 minutes to get snow patrol there? Unsafe!

Yelp
Doesn't deserve any stars. This place has gone down the shitter. Please don't give them any business. They have little to no rails or boxes left on the slopes, the slopes are mostly ice, & their food is greasy, unappetizing and overpriced. Almost got into an argument with the guy that checks the vax cards, because the downstairs bathrooms were closed and he told me I couldn't use the lodge bathroom unless I was vaccinated. You can't even go in to order and bring it outside without a vax card. The price you pay for lift and rentals is simply not worth it. Plus, the employees that work there are as nasty as it gets. Don't waste your time here, go to a better resort such as Shawnee, Camelback or Blue Mountain.

Christopher A.

Yelp
Great value for the price. Pretty standard subpar Pocono ski mountain. Great for beginners.
google avatar

Malikah M.

Yelp
Food was exactly what we needed after hitting the slopes. Took a quick lesson broke for lunch and a beer and hit it hard again. The food was hot fast and good!
google avatar

Eddie D.

Yelp
Enjoyed the ski, staff are great, lesson was very helpful to keep you safe and ALIVE! I saw one lift was not working and line is a mess in the other lift, kids or teens cut lines and sneaks in to school for beginners. I hope they can have more staff to watch the lines, it can get a little frustrating. Ultimately, a good place to ski and have fun! Scott, one of the staff were very helpful to young and old, trying to give quick lessons and assisting everyone!
google avatar

Kevin F.

Yelp
Waited an hour to go down tubing Everyone at the resort aware of the problem and don't care 100$ for one ride for 4 No refund

Janie A.

Yelp
My friends and I came here to enjoy a fun day of skiing and fun at the lodge. With high hopes coming to Bar T for a couple drinks and food for lunch, we were left extremely disappointed. The bar was packed, so we were very patient and understanding that it took a while to order drinks and food. Having said that, our food took an hour to come out. My biggest issue, however, is that the bartender (named Pat) laughed and just said "no" at my friend when she asked to order a personal pizza (which is listed as a menu item on their website and she has had it here before). I understand being busy, but I don't understand being that rude to someone just asking about a menu item. The drinks are fine, but if you're looking for some fun on your ski trip, skip Bar T and go to Shenanigans.

Dan S.

Yelp
Not as big of a mountain as I expected. On the plus side it wasn't packed and the slopes where great for learning. The ski rental shop staff was very nice and helpful. If you're looking to teach someone how to ski this is a great place to start.

Courtney M.

Yelp
Rude staff and a HORRIBLE experience. We booked tubing from 12-2. We were able to go down the mountain twice. When I was taking my 4 year old daughter up we got in line at 1:45. When we got to the escalator, the woman said we couldn't go because it was 2:04. We just waited in line 20 minutes. I explained that we had been in line way before 2 o'clock. She said no, Called her manager on the walkie-talkie and asked him, his response was "nope". Spoke with the manager explaining that my daughter was never even able to go down because the lines were so long and I had to take my middle son the first time. He could not have cared less. Was ignorant and said if this was night skiing would I need to let 100 people go when it's closing time. Not even related to what we were doing and he just wanted me out of there. He said that's too bad, oh well. A total waste of $230. We are a family of 5 and I would never recommend Big Boulder. Save your money and go somewhere else.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
This place is terrible. They have no care for people's enjoyment and sell way more tickets than they can have people on the mountain. Lines are outrageous. Staff is rude and terrible. Don't go to this place.

Chris E.

Yelp
Incredible dedication to making snow and getting open early but they need a lot of work in other areas. Years ago Big Boulder chose to focus most of there efforts on park terrain and clientele that want that but in the process they alienated families and regular skiers. The customer base they have now is the teen to twenty something snowboarder drinking on the lifts and doing laps of the park to create content for their 200 Instagram and YouTube followers. Big Boulder invests so much in making snow and creating park features but invests almost nothing in everything else. - 3 of BB's 8 lifts are permanently broken - The lodge hasn't seen an update in decades - The bathrooms are terrible - The food is just mediocre cafeteria food with limited bright spots - The terrain is odd & with broken lifts requires a lot work on flat areas Simply put unless you are looking to lap a single park run, hike up the mountain to hit one rail over & over, or hang out with drunk teens this is not the place for you. I loved Big Boulder a few years ago, my kids learned to ski there, but every year it's gets a little more run down, a little more "young punk teen", and a little less concerned about appealing to a broad client base and delivering great customer service. I've been a season pass holder for years but without a major change in the off season from Vail Resorts we won't back in the 20/21 season.

Yelp
Today I visited Big Boulder with my friends from Mexico City. We had a quick bite. The food was diner style and delicious. The Cafeteria was very clean with lots of seating. The mountain was perfect for us beginners. The bathrooms were clean. The front ticket counter lady was training a new employee and they were both very nice and gave us information that helped for our first time there. The rental area employees were very nice and amicable but there manager Kate is a nasty woman. After a day of skiing I had to get my blood boiling over someone so disgusting and messed up my whole day. Not going back there ever!
google avatar

Tara D.

Yelp
Great slopes for all levels, including beginners. There is a carpet lift at the ski school slope which is extremely useful for beginners. The ski school staff were great. However there are no set classes and you can bounce between instructors depending on who shows up for the group lessons. The layout is slightly confusing. When I arrived I wasn't sure where to get tickets, or rent gear or how to sign in for my ski lesson. Turns out I just show up on the slope... Facilities are slightly dated but still in good condition. Downside is that you have to pay for lockers. A small one is $8 and prices go up to $15 a day. Limited food choices but the ones available are cheap. Tubing is a slight walk away so be prepared. It's good to go on the same day as you ski or snowboard as it's just $10 vs $27. Parking is free. Plenty of spaces on weekdays. More crowded on weekends. Overall a good place to go, will return.
google avatar

J D.

Yelp
Snow tubing is dangerous here. The slope is short and doesn't leave enough room to stop. My group went into the fence every single time we went down. We got banged up and bruised up. My hubby even got caught in the fence, and then fell through it to the other side onto rocks. We weren't taking running starts or trying to go extra fast or anything. It was just not enough stopping distance. There were about 3 teenagers running it and were not doing a good job. It took about 20 minutes to wait in line at the top before we could go down. No one was at the bottom directing people off the slope so it took forever as people lollygagged around and crossed the bottom. No direction, no signs, dangerous...... would not recommend. And they don't sell the tickets online. You have to show up in person to buy them, but they only sell them for the same day so you can't even come one day to buy for another. It's like 1990 all over again. Go online JFBB. Get with the modern times! And improve the safety of your tubing slope!
google avatar

Adam D.

Yelp
Be sure to visit the Big Boulder Park Bar & Grill located at the Boulder Park lodge on weekends for a delicious fresh made authentic Pocono cheese steak

Jackie P.

Yelp
This place is terrible. The lines were terribly long, so confusing where to get your tickets. Said times to get your tickets in the morning but whole place was closed until 12pm. Had to sit in car and wait two hours even when confirmation said 9 am for pickup . The place is so run down . Mountains were all ice. wanted to go eat lunch in lodge with our family and they denied us bc we weren't vaccinated! But yet told us to go to next restaurant that is more lenient with that . So we go to other side of lodge and it was one room with folding tables and sold you hot dogs Like we were a bunch of animals bc we weren't vaccinated! Had to leave mountain to go to a restaurant or we would starve there. Staff doesn't know anything about anything. This Place is so unorganized and just awful. Worst experience and would never bring my family here again!

Jessica J.

Yelp
I went to boulder & everyone was super nice and friendly but the manager in the Rentals she has a piss poor attitude, horrible work ethic and is very rude and mean to her employees, it was a damn shame. She also has a very rude manners .

Siobhan K.

Yelp
My friends and I were having a great time skiing here until we decided go to Jack Frost. We went to put our boots back at Big Boulder to leave. The lady at the boot counter told us they closed at 4 and we told her we understood, we just wanted to give it a try. We sat down and started unbuckling our boots when I looked up and saw her POINTING at us and talking to her manager. Her manager then came over and started saying in a judgmental tone "you know it's 25 minutes away right?" "yes" You know it's gonna be difficult to find parking, right" " yes" " you know they're gonna be slammed, right?" "okay we understand". Then went back behind the boot counter and CONTINUED to talk about us to her coworker. If you're gonna talk about us at least do it in private. Very unprofessional.

Trevor T.

Yelp
Was really excited to bring the family tubing. Bought tickets online which apparently only guarantees that you pay for them. No separate line once we arrived to get tickets and no guarantee of a time slot. When we finally got tickets, took the lift up and had to wait 30 minutes to do one run. Ended up doing three runs at a cost of $25/head.

Chris K.

Yelp
The facilities were awful! Extremely old and run down. The lodge next to the Cafeteria was dirty, the area for condiments was a disaster. (Filthy) restrooms again were filthy (extremely small) there was actually a line for the men's room. (Where do you ever see that?) Lifts extremely slow and old. Slopes were small and packed with extremely rude people. Yelling cuss words playing load and obscene music. Doing drugs on the lifts and nothing was done by the operators. The Lift operators on the top of the mountain were more concerned with their phones instead of managing the top of the mountain. The Unloading ramp had more dirt and rocks then the road. (Typically the operator would shovel some snow to keep it smooth) Mountain was extremely small compared to others in the area. Never will return again!! This was the worst place we've been to all weekend. We've skied at 3 different locations so far.

Chris S.

Yelp
The rental shop is amazing! The manager was very nice and friendly to my family. You should leave her a big tip.The Snowboarding instructing is GREAT.My son learned everything after trying four other places.

Liz S.

Yelp
First, the place obviously hasn't been updated since the 1980s, including the music they play. It started off as nostalgic, but grew old as the day went on. That wasn't the worst part though. We had a horrible experience with the staff. A ski instructor and director incorrectly accused my family of enrolling my twins in ski lessons too young and abruptly kicked them out an hour into their lesson in front of several people, and very rudely. We were with the Girl Scouts on a trip that split Girl Scouts throughout Jack Frost and Big Boulder that day, and my girls happen to be the only ones at that lesson at that time. They were old enough to be in the group lesson because of the connection to Girl Scouts (8yo and older for groups such as Girl Scouts). After several escalated, colorful words with staff lasting over a half hour letting them know they were wrong and the situation was unacceptable as my kids sat upset, scared, confused, cold and missing out on their fun, the staff reluctantly admitted they were completely wrong, but there was no apology. Now my children are scarred from the ordeal and forever will associate this with their first skiing experience. Dealing with management now to make it right has just been a nightmare, and has only involved lies from the staff covering up the true story of what happened. Big Boulder does not put the customers first, and they have some major issues with their staff. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Obviously no one will be treated well if cute, little, eight-year-old Girl Scouts can be treated so poorly.
