We stayed in one of the newly renovated lodges (#57) at Big Meadows Lodge, and it was absolutely wonderful. The room was spotless, the bed incredibly comfortable, and the overall space felt cozy and inviting from the moment we arrived. The walking paths around the lodge were easy to navigate, which made exploring the area with our dog a breeze — such a great spot for pet owners! The sitting area right outside our lodge quickly became a favorite place to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. And on our last night, the fireplace inside added the perfect touch of warmth and comfort — such a cozy way to end the day. What truly made the experience even better was the staff. Every person we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. Their kindness and hospitality made us feel right at home. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Highly recommend Big Meadows Lodge to anyone looking for a scenic, pet-friendly getaway in Shenandoah with top-notch service!

The lodge is simple but you got all you need in the mountains. Beddings are not that warm but the heater is pretty good. Overall good stay. As for restaurant, the trout for dinner was good and the blueberry pancakes for breakfast were decent too. Nothing to complain about. For food i also recommend to drive a few more mins to Skyland lodge, similar food but slightly different menu if you are staying in the national park for a couple days.

We chose Big Meadows Lodge because we had stayed there many years ago and because we happened to be there for dinner and decided to stay the night since they had availability. We had not had opportunity to check out ratings on Trip Advisor. First of all, I would suggest that you ask to see the room before paying for it. The reason I gave this room (Room # 23) only a poor rating is because, unfortunately this room just doesn't even come up to an average room. (I'm comparing this to the many places we have stayed.) The bed was very comfortable but the room and bathroom had probably not been updated since the lodge was built. It was fairly clean, as clean as you can get something that old. We didn't even use the shower, but it was dripping all the time. The toilet roll holder came off as soon as I used it. Yes, the lodge is in a beautiful area and we enjoyed the delicious dinner in the dining hall, and the beautiful out doors and even spent all evening in the beautiful rustic lodge with the beautiful fireplace. Rustic is nice but this room was way beyond rustic. This room was in the main lodge and seemed to be kind of all by itself in an area where the workers seemed to be, as most of the doors indicated. Just to look at us, we are obviously seniors, and this room went though several sets of narrow steps and hallways. The lady at the desk did not even ask us if we were ok with steps. With all that being said, paying $200 for this room was not worth it. When we returned our keys, the lady at the desk was not very friendly. Maybe she knew that Room 23 usually gets complaints.

This lodge affords beautiful vistas and reasonably appointed rooms. Park service is friendly and helpful. The dining is not gourmet, but it is very good. Have returned many times and will do so again.

I was really hoping that this was going to be a wonderful trip, but the room at the Big Meadows Lodge was terrible. I cannot believe that they can get away with charging people over $400 for one night and have the room be so outdated and poorly maintained. The trip started out okay - a very nice person checked us in. But that is where things took a downturn. We walked over to the room and the building looked like it had been abandoned for years. The door handle was loose as we tried to get the key to work. As we walked in, the room smelled like it had been locked up for years. The toilet didn't flush, the shower tile was cracked, the furniture looked like it was out of a museum, and the door to the patio had huge gaps in it. If the room had been reasonably priced, I might have overlooked some of these issues. But at over $400 per night, it’s unacceptable. The food at the restaurant was just okay, but the total for two people came out to $70 for two entrees and a basket of stale bread. I’ve never left a hotel in the middle of the night before, but this experience was so disappointing that we had to leave. Unless you can be guaranteed a remodeled room, stay away from Big Meadows Lodge.

The rustic Lodge was historic and rustic. The room we stayed in also were rustic. Noisy heater and an uncomfortable bed. We stayed in a lower two story room. Front desk staff was not friendly and acted put off when we asked questions. The lodge had a tasting room in the basement and very limited menu was offered in a adjacent room. Breakfast in the main dining room was decent. Upside, they had Starbucks coffee.

Great 2 nights spent at Big Meadows. Staff were friendly. After a day of hiking and a meal in the dining room, enjoying a nightcap and a game in the Great Room around the big fireplace was warm and peaceful. It was a great space to share with other guests. Our room was quiet and adequate. Would recommend.

We had a great experience at Big Meadows Lodge. Located right in the middle of Skyline Drive, so close to hiking, the only gas station, and a great meadow for stargazing. |We loved our room, which had a fireplace. The food in the dining room was great and we also enjoyed the Tap Room, and hike on the property to watch the sunset.|The staff was excellent - very friendly and professional. Great experience all around.

Yelp
The rooms at Big Meadows are pretty decent. The beds are comfortable and the room, which has a vaulted ceiling and ceiling fan, was clean. They had cable television with decent reception and a decent channel selection. The room also had a balcony which would have been nice. However, it was in serious need of a paint job which gave me some concern about how well it was maintained. The balcony view looked down on the roofs of the cabins behind our building which was... okay. Surprisingly, our room also had a wood-burning fireplace, though I don't know how we could have started a fire if we had wanted to (which we didn't). My medium, 3-star review comes from two points. First was the lack of A/C. We left the window open and the door cracked to get some ventilation. Even so, I heard another guest complaining about how hot it was in their room with no A/C. And then there is the cost. The room was +$300/night! For that kind of money, frankly I expect more from a hotel. Our stay was okay but for the money, I would not do it again.

Yelp
This is heaven on earth. Hike to a waterfall, witness a gorgeous sunset from a rocking chair with dinner and a cocktail, then join a Ranger for a Talk - life just doesn't get any better. We stayed in Blacksman Cabin 114 two years ago & this time got Room #3 in the Lodge with a view of the Valley looking down on Luray WV. Next time we won't be in such a hurry, catching weddings, and will stay at least two nights. Are the accommodations rustic? You bet - that's the charm.
