Big Mood Natural Wines

Highly recommend this spot for anyone who lives in KC or visits KC. Big Mood has a laid-back feel and an impressive selection of natural wines. I immediately felt like a local when the owners helped me select the perfect bottle. The orange wines were an absolute treat! They also have a wine club with great deals on bottles.

You know how in the Wizard of Oz the worlds changes from black & white to color? That has been my experience since being introduced to natural wine, and it has exclusively come from this lovely place and the people therein. I have never left Big Mood without having learned something new (about wine or otherwise), enjoyed a fun variety of wines, and met some cool people along the way. Richard is a fountain of knowledge, and as a novice wine drinker, I appreciate how approachable he makes the world of all things natural wine. The whole experience is a vibe - why wouldn't you want to sip wine on the patio in a chill spot with lovely humans?

Without a doubt the best place in Downtown KC to get Natural Wine. An incredible owner and staff make the experience at Big Mood truly fun. This is the type of place you go to truly discover and gain a more intimate knowledge of the city and its people. The shelves are stocked with the coolest products (zines, sardines, art) along side some of the most unique wines the world has to offer.

I found Big Mood thanks to a pop-up event and I'm so thankful I did! The staff is incredibly friendly, patient, helpful, and knowledgeable. I found a wine I loved the first time I went and, while they didn't have it when I went back, the staff was able to help me find one similar that I loved equally as much. Best part was - I shared a whole bottle and didn't even have a hint of a headache (it's like magic wine). While I can't speak for every bottle in the store, it was awesome to find wine that was both delicious and didn't result in a hangover. The vibe is awesome and I love popping in. There seems to be lots of pop-up events with other local businesses which is super cool. Can't wait to get to a Thursday wine tasting sometime soon!

My most favorite wine spot in KC! I’ve not had one thing here that isn’t delightful and delicious. The space is beautiful and welcoming. Plants everywhere!! Richard is very personable and also knowledgeable of all wines that enter his shop. He can always point me in the right direction. Thursday wine tastings are always a fun event and we always leave with a couple bottles in hand. There’s usually some kind of collaboration with a food truck or local KC restaurant that is available on Thursdays as well! If you haven’t been you’re definitely missing out!

Looks lovely from behind the window, and heard they had some hard to come by stuff that I was in the need off. Would have been a nice stop during a rainy cold day in the city. Too bad the opening hours on Google and the door are not up to date.

WONDERFUL experience learning a lot about wines they were offering for tastings. We tried three different ones: a chardonnay/Clairette, a sparkling red and a boujalais red. All were really unique and one wasn't even in the Vivino database, so I was able to add it myself. We got to talk with the owner for quite a while, which was great. I love supporting local businesses - especially when they're passionate about what they do. This place fits that description to a T.

When I walked into Big Mood, I immediately loved the space. Beautiful architecture, bright natural light, greenery all around, fantastic records playing, wine lining the walls. I am by no means an expert when it comes to wine and usually find picking out a bottle to bring to dinner or even one to bring to my own table a bit intimidating. The owners took their time to help me pick out several new favorites just by telling them what I like, what meal I was having, etc. They were extremely knowledgeable and didn’t make me feel silly or rushed for asking so many questions. My husband and I now make a weekly stop to pick up our usual bottles and to check out the new wines they have brought in. I highly recommend giving these guys and gal a visit.

A great spot for a chill date, the space gives an inviting aura to hang out with good people. I usually go in to purchase a bottle they've posted to Instagram. I'm confident the knowledgeable staff would be able to pick a bottle to anyone's preference.

One of my favorite places. They have a great wine selection that you can't find anywhere else. The staff is always super knowledgeable and helpful when you're making your selections. It's always fun to hang out there and try new wines on Thursdays for the tastings (plus the music they play is great). Highly recommend.

All the wine here is natural, so for the organic girlies you can get some yummy wine here. The staff and owner are very nice people, and I think this is a great spot for a first date, or just to blow steam with good vibes. They sometimes have live performances, but I'd check their insta or something for that Definitely check this place out!

I called to ask about a specific wine and this guy said no and immediately hung up on me. I was planning to buy numerous products in bulk, but this is why customer service is so important.

Meh...had some expectations of what this place would be like and they were not met. The vibe was not ideal like everyone there needed to chill tf out and stop being so judgmental. Additionally the wine was like average and the staff was weird. DONT TAKE PICTURES WITH FLASH HERE YOU WILL GET CALLED OUT.

Holy shit!! This was seriously the worst situation we could ask for...Umm the staff knew literally nothing about wine. The wine was disgusting AND they charged an $8 corking fee to open their wine!! It was insane! We left 2 open bottles just to get out!!

A favorite spot in the Crossroads. Nice ambience, knowledgeable and friendly staff, tasty small bites, and a well-curated selection of great, new, and interesting drinks (including NA options). Keep a lookout for DJ and food pop-ups.

Just don't. The atmosphere was decent, minus the fact we were the only people in the place on a Saturday night. Red flag number one. No samples. Wine was definitely bottom shelf- but don't worry it also came with an $8 corking fee. You'd be better off with two bottle of barefoot. Go another route.

Nope.... if you ate short on vinegar, this is the place to stock up. Cool location, but that's the extent of it.

Richard is incredibly knowledgeable about every single wine and spirit he has in his shop. If you walk in and you're a Pinot fan, he's going to recommend the best selection to your taste. Aside from that, the whole vibe of Big Mood is super welcoming and friendly. You can sign up for a wine club or even show up on a Thursday for a tasting and a cool pizza pop up place (DEVOURED!) is outside the shop. Lots of plants. Lots of cool people. Very cool vibe.

The best wine store in KC! Love their options and they're always getting new stuff in! I don't know much about wine, I just know what I like. I've never been disappointed by anything I've bought from here and they always make great suggestions even though I don't know much wine lingo.

This light filled wine saturated space was beautiful. I wanted to pick up some fancier wines for the holidays and support a small business at the same and it just so happened YelpKC had posted Big Mood on their Instagram a few days prior to my adventure. Located near the railroads in the Crossroads parking was a little tough to find, but I didn't mind the short walk. I perused the small space and one of the workers asked if I needed any help. I gave them my price point and they were super helpful and directed me to a wonderful Malbec and a Syrah. The folks here are SUPER knowledgeable about their wine and source from very small vineyards. I loved loved loved the Malbec, but the Syrah wasn't my style. It was so fun to go out of my comfort zone and discover a new wine I love. Added bonus-- no massive headache the next day because of those clean, organic ingredients. Can't wait to try some more wine!

What a great little wine store! Feel fortunate to have them in the Neighborhood! They carry an impressive array of Natural Wines for being a small space! You will not be disappointed by the selection! They are great about explaining their wines and making recommendations based on your preferences. It's minimally - but artfully - decorated and it's just so pretty and clean! When I go on my walks, they always give a nice neighborly wave too. Just nice people running a very nice store. Go in and check it out! You will be a repeat customer for sure!
