Really good ice cream and the best in-house made waffle cones! During high season, the line can get long but it moves and it’s a great place to meet other people as the line moves along. For those that complain about the long line, please stay where you are and don’t come to the east end.

Google
Big Olaf just opened back up today for the summer season! So excited 😊 Truly awesome local organic ice cream parlor with yogurt, gluten-free, and vegan options. Waffle cones. Fudge. Toppings. The whole package ! 48th year in business, so you know it's legit ✅️ Note : it's cash only

Tam Petersen

Google
Really delicious ice cream with a nice assortment of flavors! It usually gets pretty busy but it’s worth the wait. The server wasn’t very patient but the yummy waffle cone made up for it! REMINDER: They only accept CASH!

Ina Li

Google
Old school ice cream parlor by the pier serving rich, well-flavored scoops with homemade waffle cones. Tried triple chocolate and toasted coconut, both great! Cash only.

Jan Ezer Dominguez

Google
Scrumptious ice cream! So many flavors, it’s hard to decide. The dock is right outside so there’s a great place to walk around and enjoy. Also It’s cash only

Vivian Cao

Google
Classic ice cream shop right on the dock. The flavor selection was enormous and the cones were huge! Would definitely recommend the toasted coconut. It was so good (perfect texture and sweetness level) we went back another night for it again.

Google
They serve Gifford’s ice cream like you can buy in the grocery store. It is not homemade by this place. No reviews mention this. Homemade waffle cones are decent. People working were nice. Hours / days on Google are totally incorrect. They were open midweek. There is huge opportunity for someone who makes high quality homemade ice cream to come to Sag Harbor/The Hamptons.

Google
The best vegan ice cream

Yelp
Cash-only ice cream spot with a huge flavor selection! We waited in a long line, but it was worth it. Plenty of flavors, including dairy-free options. I had the Birthday Cake ice cream with Oreos on top--loved the icing mixed in! The kids' size is surprisingly generous and made for the perfect portion! TL;DR: Cash-only, long lines, but worth it. The kids' size is perfect for one scoop!

Yelp
Cash only!! There was a line when we went but the wait was only around 10-15 minutes on a Saturday afternoon. They allow 2 samples per customer. Would highly highly recommend the ice cream sandwich... their cookies, which tasted homemade and freshly baked, were honestly some of the tastiest chocolate chip cookies I have ever had. The cookie had such a nice crunch factor on the outside, and came warm and so extremely flavorful and soft. For the waffle cone -- looked better than it tasted. I loved the moose tracks flavor and health bar crunch yogurt flavor (did not taste healthy at all; in fact tasted like normal ice cream). Moose tracks honestly tasted like a superior, lighter cookies and cream. Also got the toasted coconut, which I liked since it has shards of coconut crisps for the extra crunch. Highly recommend for a dessert or snack in sag harbor!!

Yelp
As you would expect in peak summer, line was very long at Olaf's but still moved pretty quickly! Ice cream was delicious but important to note the establishment is cash only! It's in a wonderful location where you can walk out to the docks with your ice cream after. Would highly reccomend the trip!

Yelp
I got the Salted Caramel ice cream in a waffle cone. It wasn't very salty which was disappointing. Also not very caramely. It tasted like vanilla pretty much. There were chocolate covered pretzels in it which were good. The waffle cone was really yummy. $8 The set up of the shop makes no sense. There's no clear line and since it's so popular there's a lot of people there but no one knows where to go. A few other customers who had been waiting were getting frustrated.

Yelp
Long line that went around the block ... the wait was totally worth it. Amazing creamy ice creams and variety in flavor choices. remember to take cash. they do not accept credit cards.

Yelp
I am a huge fan of the WIDE variety of flavor options, though, not so much a huge fan of the never ending line. Be completly prepared if you do wish to come here, especially this summer since the hamptons have become everyones hot-spot. I would plan on waiting 30-45 minutes at a busy hour, so if you happen to catch Big Olaf's at a lull most definitely take advantage. The prices here are also pretty high but what else can you expect from a small independent shop in the hamptons. I come here occasionally and I do have to say whenever I do it never disappoints. Usually I go for a vanilla based ice cream in a wafer cone with rainbow sprinkles. But the chocolate, or any other flavor, and the milkshakes are just as good. Bottom line it's a special treat and delicious.
google avatar

Shamila P.

Yelp
What can I say Big Olaf has been there since forever, this place only takes cash so be prepared. It is a hampton ice cream spot so it's hampton price ice cream. Parking can be a nightmare. Do recommend parking not in the long wharf are maybe the spot opposite the legion would be better and walk down We usually walk down to long wharf after getting ice cream to enjoy the view. I would say they have a good a selection of flavors, personally love the birthday cake looks .

Julianne T.

Yelp
I'm so happy Big Olaf is open again for the season! It was a bit emptier when I went, so I definitely savored that since I know there will be a line out of the door soon. I got the cookie dough, and it was delicious! Probably the best I've ever had. The staff were really nice and eager to help. Will definitely be back as much as I can this season
google avatar

Jose P.

Yelp
They had an amazing peanut butter ice cream! The waffle cones are made in house one by one. The line goes by pretty fast, so don't be intimated by the line going down the street. Tons of great flavors and sundae options. They also have some soft serve options as well.

Yelp
Best ice cream in town better than Buddha Berry!!!! I love the Ice Cream!!!!!! It is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Gooooooooooooooooooood
google avatar

Sar P.

Yelp
Oh gosh my review requires an update - I give them 5/5 for both ice cream and waffle cone even though I've only had one flavor for years - it is really that Good - salted caramel and chocolate! Cash only!
google avatar

Bunny L.

Yelp
My favorite ice cream I've ever had. The smell of the warm cones being made in the store billows out on to the marina. The smell draws you into the store. So good!!!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
The best ice cream from Giffords of Maine , off the charts , the service, the teams and the experience is sublime

Sofia M.

Yelp
I LOVE IT! BEST ICE CREAM EVER! Go here whenever you are nearby. Just made sure you have cash as it is cash only, but ther was an ATM nearby to get out cash
google avatar

Chloe L.

Yelp
Creamy and delicious + comes with a view of the harbor! Only downside is it's cash only
google avatar

Haeleigh R.

Yelp
Pretty good ice cream, just wish there were more cookie dough pieces in the cookie dough flavor. Not a long wait the night before the 4th of July!
google avatar

Jenny K. L.

Yelp
The later in the day (past 7p) you should expect a line. Everyone is really respectful of masks and only two parties inside at a time. Milkshakes are delicious, but can be time consuming as they are making them one at a time. The homemade waffle cone is a must!
google avatar

Jamie S.

Yelp
This is a really solid ice cream shop in Sag Harbor. While the line can be long, it is worthwhile. Last night I waited in line for about 15 minutes, but the line seemed to be moving at a decent pace. Everyone in my group liked their ice cream. I got their soft serve swirl of chocolate and vanilla in a waffle cone. It was all very good and their waffle cones are homemade and delicious! They have various toppings for your ice cream too if you like that. While there is no seating area, if you walk outside the shop there is a nice small boardwalk like area that you can hang out at while eating your ice cream.
google avatar

Romina R.

Yelp
I was hesitant to try this as it gets bad reviews but the ice cream was soooo good! Such a surprise and am shocked at the bad reviews. The Mississippi mud pie was good but my favorite was the s'mores. The waffle cones are made fresh and the mini size is huge.
google avatar

Zack G.

Yelp
Tiny ice cream shop with a wide variety of flavors of decent ice cream. Tasty homemade cones however
google avatar

Theryn G.

Yelp
I've never met such rude employees. We ordered two ice creams, small, and received one. We said something and the person serving us threw the ice cream out angrily and was mute. I'll never come here again. Oh, and a a small ice cream is 6 dollars.
google avatar

Deborah L.

Yelp
What's better than Ice Cream and the beach!!! Great selection with overly abundant servings and polite service. Just a fun yummy experience. I had the Butter Pecan but I'm coming back soon for the Rocky Roads.
google avatar

Yelp
Came out to The Hamptons to get away for a few days. Stopped by Sag Harbor to see if there were any of the big yachts to check out. Most stores were closed but people were walking around enjoying some ice cream cones so we decided to join in. We had a rum raisin and you can taste the rum flavor. Another was cookies and cream and it had a good amount cookies. Last was a peanut butter Oreo and moose trac and the feedback was tasty. The waffle cones were fresh and so it was a good experience.

Yelp
First of all, it's a completely wasted opportunity that this place doesn't have Olaf from Frozen as its mascot. Okay, I understand that Disney would totally sue their asses, but they could at least draw him on a white board or something. Anyway, the line is huge but moves quickly. They let you try a few samples and they've got a few dozen different flavors, both classic and fun (like "superman", which is a mix of red, yellow and blue sorbets). I really wanted dulce de leche but they didn't have it. I instead went with the butter pecan in a mini waffle cone ($6) and it was plenty of ice cream. The waffle cone was fresh and crisp and the ice cream was delicious, but nothing out of this world. It's also pretty expensive. Decent service. 3.5 stars.

Jeralyn L.

Yelp
Of the three or so places to get ice cream in Sag Harbor, Big Olaf is #1, even when the line is out the door! Flavors are delicious and many. Regular cones or the waffle cones are yummy.

Ruby S.

Yelp
The ice cream is so good and creamy. I recommend the s'mores flavor. Cash only though

Jasper G.

Yelp
Some great ice cream and a better option than Buddhaberry! Just remember to bring cash.

Weho G.

Yelp
Worst customer service on the planet, but excellent ice cream! This place is by far the most incompetently-run business I've seen in years! It's like walking into a farce with characters acting as bad servers lol! BUT the ice cream is really good. Plus it's pretty humorous how bad the workmanship is.
google avatar

Jinny T.

Yelp
The line is always long. I love to have the ice cream on the bench by the harbor. The portion is gorgeous but the flavor is ok. I would come back if the line is not that crazy.

Anna G.

Yelp
Their low fat yogurt is inedible. Rarely can I not eat something past a first bite. This was truly awful-salted caramel and heath bar flavors. Either it was spoiled or someone dropped a pound of salt into both flavors. On top of which, in this day and age, they accept only cash. Very strange requirement as they so kindly direct you to the nearest ATM. Regret having spent my money here.
google avatar

Tyler Y.

Yelp
Great ice cream Great employees Great service Great views of sunsets and yachts On summer weekends prepare for 15-30 min line for wait time but worth every second of it. Go to choices are mint chocolate chip or moose tracks on a waffle cone!
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
Tasty ice cream, nice variety, probably 25-30 choices. Small space, no seating inside, but there's a bench or two outside. Located on Long Wharf, so really convenient if you've parked there. $6.50 for a medium, $5.50 for a small. A bit pricy - probably par for the course in the Hamptons - worth a stop.

Gen D.

Yelp
No wait at 3pm on a Saturday on a hot sunny day. Amazing flavors and really crispy and tasty cones.
google avatar

Ariana J.

Yelp
OH MY GOD this is THE BEST cone I've ever had in my whole life. All I got was a twist with sprinkles so I have no idea how this could be this mind blowing but if you're ever in Sag Harbor, this place is a must try!!!

miranda c.

Yelp
best ice cream ever if i lived close i would get it everyday i got cotton candy ice cream on the bottom and birthday cake on top and both were amazing but the birthday cake oh my god so good

Yelp
Must stop by at Big Olaf if you are in the town of Sag Harbor, NY. I was planning on my first family trip to Long Island, and read about this place on Disney's family travel website. This ice cream shop serves wide variety of flavors and toppings. I tried Cake Batter and Moose Tracks (most popular one here) and loved both. There are benches outside the shop to enjoy your ice cream or you can take it to the beach by the windmill. It feels so refreshing to have ice cream by the water with a great view! Perfect for families to stop by.

Reed L.

Yelp
Ice cream itself was good, especially the Chocolate Lover's flavor. Definitely expect long lines around the block, even on a Monday night in July. Slightly concerned about COVID safety, as the small store was packed with maskless customers and employees. Our server seemed relatively new to the shop, but overall the team seemed to be doing a great job of managing such high demand. Plus, the smell of homemade waffle cones was almost worth the trip itself! Cash only.

Yelp
*** REVIEW ONLY FOR THE WAFFLE CONES *** Big Olaf's is harborside - in Sag Harbor next to The Dockhouse. I decided not to try their ice cream, which you think you smell before you even walk in the door. But in fact, what you're smelling is freshly made waffle cones. They make them in house, right before your eyes. Now, I"m not usually one to say this - but OMG amazing!!!! For $1 you can get a waffle cone. Forget the ice cream, and just get the waffle cone by itself - trust me and take my advice. You won't regret it. On our way back to the boat (which was parked at the harbor - we decided to pay sag harbor a visit from the north fork lol), we even decided to go back and get seconds - it was THAT good!

Pat W.

Yelp
Great ice cream. Not a very long wait in the afternoon. Chocolate Lovers was delicious. Muddy Boots was really good too. Cash only.

Amanda W.

Yelp
Slow service, not that great gelato, overpriced, huge waiting line over 45' !!! And why not accepting credit cards ? Across the street they have better ice cream
google avatar

Hillary S.

Yelp
The cookies and cream never fails to rock my world! Best I've EVER had. Four stars, because there's always a long line -__- but well worth it.

Yelp
It's a lovely location to stop, pick up an ice, find a bench and let time pass you by for a while. We were the only customers in the store, but we felt a little rushed to buy rather than take time to sample or choose an ice cream. I felt as if I had inconvenienced my server. They were not rude, it was just their mannerism. After giving me a couple of teaspoon samples (of which my party of 4 had to share), the server walked away and I had to ask for help again when choosing. There weren't any offers or suggestions coming from the server...actually, the conversation was pretty limited to our questions. Sadly, although the servings were generous, I found the ice creams to be too sweet, lacking flavour and overpriced for what it is. The lemon sorbet needed more lemon, the rum and raisin needed rum (I couldn't taste any). The pistachio was ok - creamy but not as good as what I've eaten elsewhere. The cherry was ok also. If I were to go back to Sag Harbour, I'd probably check out what else is on offer elsewhere. 2.5 stars

Yelp
Yummy ice cream spot near the wharf. Grab a giant waffle cone and walk around the area. Cash only. High school kids so service is a bit slow but friendly. The two ride on whale and dolphin machines outside ate our quarters and didn't work. Flavors we liked... Vanilla, Mississippi mud, moose tracks. Waffle cones were delicious.

Yelp
Big Olaf is a fond part of my childhood - summers in the Hamptons, swimming at the beach or a friend's pool, bbq dinners followed by an evening in Sag Harbor. There we would walk up and down the main street, window shopping, then grab an ice cream treat from Big Olaf before staring at the huge yachts that were docked at the wharf right next door. Now, of course, with the ridiculous popularity of the Hamptons, the scene has changed a bit. Olaf's, while still serving amazingly wonderful ice cream in so many different flavors (as well as soft serve, frozen yogurt, AND frozen custard) and continuing to make their waffle cones freshly each night (the smell drifts out and down the block...it tempts everyone who passes), has soured in its appeal. The quality of the ice cream, cones, and toppings is still the same and very abundant, but the LINE. Oh, the LINE! It does move, eventually, but the hoard of people outside gives me enough time to pause and ask if I really want to pay that much for a small cup of a flavor (but damn those servings are HUGE!) that I could buy at the supermarket for less and just as good quality. Also, with the summer crowds comes the sour server behind the counter; understandable, but not something I want to deal with as I order five different things for me and my family. The time to go is either early in the season (before the summer renters come) or after the Hampton Classic (when most people have to return to their jobs). However, those times are also when you are less inclined to go out for ice cream. But on occasion it is nice to relive my childhood joy of a waffle cone.

Yelp
BIG OLAF? BIG JOKE!! The young man employee with man bun (light brown hair, pale skin) is a BIG RUDE PROBLEMO. After rudely telling us to wait outside due to max capacity (there's a polite way to say ANYTHING) we finally got inside to place our lovely ice cream order. After a beautiful dinner at LULU in town, we came to Big Olaf and placed our order (rocky road ice cream on waffle cone+ a cup of blueberry crumble ice cream) and he prepared our order. This was our Night Out and we were excited to finally try Big Olaf, but boy did things take a Big Turn. As this young man was handing us our ice creams and we were handing him a credit card, he rudely, ABRUPTLY and LOUDLY stated, "WE'RE CASH ONLY! YOU'RE NOT GETTING ICE CREAM UNLESS YOU HAVE CASH !" --- and took the ice cream out of my boyfriend's hand. He didn't even give us a chance to get cash out of our pocket, or offer for us to get cash from a nearby cash machine. I suppose this young fellow was raised in a BARN because this is NOT how you treat people, this is how you treat ANIMALS. I looked at him in disbelief, and very nicely stated that a bit of signage regarding the cash only rule would be nice, and I also politely told him- "Sometimes, it's not what you say, it's HOW you say it in life." We will NOT be back RUDE BOY! - BIG NO THANK YOU to BIG OLAF. BIG Olaf, BIG ATTITUDE PROBLEM.

Yelp
I'm getting totally bummed out that it can't be summer right now thinking about this place. Line straight out the door and down the block during the summer, and you see people turn around and leave discouraged by this....you still think "what are they thinking?" This may be some of the best ice cream I've ever had in my life. The only downside is that they accept only cash. Cake batter is the favorite!!!
google avatar

Geraldine D.

Yelp
What a great place!! I was here last Sunday night and thought I had beat the weekend rush, but I was so wrong. That didn't really matter, because this is a great shop and you don't really feel like you're out in the Hamptons (except when you see prices...then you realize). I wanted to try the frozen yogurt, but went for the vanilla instead. It was some of the best vanilla ice cream I had ever tasted, and I like to consider myself a vanilla connoisseur. Even though the ice cream was great, the service was somewhat subpar, especially for the prices you're paying. First of all, there's no standard line forming procedure. Instead of making good use of space by winding around, the line is apparently supposed to go straight out the door (a fire hazard..). There were also people who got there after I did, but were served first, which I didn't quite understand. Unfortunately,I did not get to try the waffle cone, but will if I am ever in the area in the future. Great ice cream, but they really need to step it up when it comes to service.

Yelp
If you enjoy Ice Cream, make this part of your sag harbor experience. The waffle cones are hand made and warm, the ice cream options varied, the scoops large. You can have toppings beat in to the ice cream. They are cash only and waffle cones start at $5. If your in East Hampton, Scoup du Jour delivers has the same flavors and cones.
