Big Ralph's Hostel & Restaurant

The rooms are comfortable with ac and also hot water but there's not much need of that in Salinas. The hosts are very kind and always up for opening the door. It's a place to stay only, not to do activities but it has a good location and the beach is in walking distance.

Sorry to see them go, the owners returned to England In the six years we have been eating there we have seen the place grow. Not in size but in but in quality and service. There are not many places that I can say this about, I have never been here and had a bad meal, I have never been here and not enjoyed the welcome that you receive from the owners and their family. This should be the standard by which other restaurants should wish to reach. If you are in Salinas and you do not eat here, it is you loss.

We stayed a long time. Kept having to change our plans. Ralph and his wife were great and helped us a lot. Great beds, great staff, secure place and quiet. The food is really good.

Ralph truly is a chef. Fantastic meals.!! This was our 2nd year here and we stayed at the hostel at the back again. Super clean. Good beds and pillows. TV and air con. Private bar in the courtyard.

$40 for a double room with private bathroom. Place: a little far away from the malecon :(, 10 blocks at least. Air conditioning, hot water, good mattresses, clean. The bad: there is not kitchen or fridge!! the common area it's really small. Overal: it's ok, but a wouldn't come back. The bad experience: I think relatives (dad / mum?) to the owner offered me to take my to the "Chocolatera" because he know the place and because he wanted to show us that place. I said that I didn't want to bother him, but they insisted. Despite not being quite sure to do it, we went to La Chocolatera. They showed us gently the place and then we returned (30 minutes the round trip) . What a great time, they seems very nice. And when we got off the car He said "You owe me $15" . WHAT!!!?? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu I'm the idiot for thinking that he would do it for free (even though I was going to tip him), but I hated him for whole my stay!!! I've learned a lesson :) El señor parecía muy amable y la señora también, decían: deja que los lleve, "a el no le cuesta nada", los puede llevar y traer.. Eso me pasa por confiar en la gente, si sabía que salía tanto prefería no ir >:(....... como me cagaron!!!

Not the place to stay if you plan on partying. Not only do they not allow visitars in your room but if you come in after 10:00 pm, the outside door is locked and you have to use a buzzer to wake up the proprietor to let you in.
