Bike Truckee

I highly recommend this fantastic 5++++ stars local Truckee business!! I stopped by Bike Truckee to ask about renting an e-bike for AMBBR (ride about Lake Tahoe for LLS). Even though they were officially closed, co-owner Dennis was there and was happy to talk to me. Over the next two weeks, I rented an e-bike on 3 occasions. Each time, co-owners Dennis and Rachel plus their staff members were incredibly helpful with explaining how the bikes operated, sharing riding path options, and ensuring I had a good fitting helmet. Dennis and Rachel are very knowledgeable and very willing to provide advice and answer questions. The overall renting experience was fantastic! I then decided to purchase an e-mountain bike. Dennis was so great helping me select the right bike! He took a lot of time to explain how each bike worked and adjusted the suspension system for my size. Rachel also helped me with selecting pedals, gloves, a saddle bag, and providing additional information such as how to use the walk mode. They also installed a mirror, bike rack and side panels. I was there about 4 hours, and I never felt like they were done helping me even after the sale was complete. They asked that I come back after a couple of rides, and they would make other adjustments as needed. Great people and service!

Dennis and Brent were fantastic throughout the whole experience. My wife and I are experienced riders,l but had no idea how many beautiful road and mountain bike trails there are across town. Both Brent and Dennis spent a ton of time talking with us to make sure we had the best experience in the Truckee/Tahoe area- and we did! And their prices are very competitive compared to local shops. The part that impressed me the most is when they spent 15-20 minutes making sure my mother found an e-bike that was just the right size/fit for her needs, trying out 3-4 bikes. They also offer bike trailers so our son could join us on this family outing! Because of Bike Truckee, we had a great experience on the Legacy trail and made lasting memories. They were so accommodating for our 6 yr old. They even provided water bottles which was helpful since we were from outta town. They gave great directions and recommendations on trails we could take to snag some food mid ride in Glenshire at the pizza company. Bikes in great condition and exceeded our needs. Fairly priced as well. We would recommend.

My wife’s bike broke down on our trip to Truckee. I checked with bike shops in the area. Dennis and Rachel at Bike Truckee were the most helpful. We went to the shop and they took time to help us pick out a new bike explaining the features and benefits. They also helped with accessories to help make the bike more enjoyable. All their advice was spot on as they enjoy the sport. They took such great care of us, I have already recommended others to them from out of town. I am also buying another bike from them. Great to see such great service and friendly people in business. I highly recommend them. The Truckee River Legacy Trail is right next to their shop. This is a must ride beautiful trail. Rent a bike from them if you don’t have one. You will love it. There are places to stop and picnic by the river or on one of the benches or tables on the trail. It is mostly flat and follows the Truckee River through the pine trees.

Came to ride the trails and discovered our bike breaks weren’t working well. We stopped into the bike shop and met a friendly face, who was able to fix our breaks while we had lunch nearby. Rory and the staff were helpful, and efficient. We were able to get back on the trails and have a great time. Thanks to the crew!

Brent was an amazing help getting us set up for our bike ride to Donner Lake. Very knowledgeable about the area trails, other activities and the different bikes. Definitely would rent here again.

My family and I had a wonderful experience renting bikes from Bike Truckee. The most friendly help and guidance through the trails and town. We LOVED our day on our E-bikes!

Was in Truckee for a vacation and didn't want to bring my bike. So I rented an ebike (pedal assist). I had the best time cruising around town. Road a few trails and looked Donner Lake. The staff was very helpful and very friendly. I will definitely rent from them again next time I am in town.

My husband and I rented two e-Bikes and did the nearby Truckee River Legacy Trail. The great service started when we called to see if we could get 1/2 day rental and we spoke to Judah, he said to come on in. When we got there he instructed us on how the bikes worked, suggested a beautiful trail and a great place to have pizza and beer at the end of the Trail. We had a fun, sunny ride and good local food/beer. Judah is a young man with a outgoing personality, very polite, a good employee for sure!

A great family business that puts the customer first!! My wife and already have a few e-bikes for cruising around Truckee but we wanted e-mountain bikes as well so we demoed a few brands. We were ready to purchase Rocky Mountains but wanted to give Bulls a shot so we stopped by Bike Truckee and Rachel was great. She explained the basics of the bike and the model options, never bad mouthed or bashed the competition. We decided to rent them for the day and she set us up for the following day. After spending a day on the Bulls, they simply blew the competition away and the only decision remaining was which model. There was no pressure or any up-selling attempted. The differences between the models were clearly explained and we made our decision. Just great service and a great business that we hope will be there for years to come!!!! Thank you Bike Truckee!!!

We were SO happy we rented bikes from Bike Truckee! There is a few options in Truckee to rent bikes and this is by far the best one! We were able to get help from the staff, Rachel and Will, they were amazing. They helped fit us for the right bike sizes, gave us a full run down on how to use the bikes, and then gave us all sorts of tips on where to ride. They even told us about a little general store along the trail we could stop at and get drinks... which we did and was awesome. We felt so taken care of by the friendly staff, and the bikes were perfect for our ride. By far one of our best highlights from our time in Tahoe. Thank you Bike Truckee team! We will be back soon!

I visited Truckee and Lake Tahoe area in late April/early May 2023. Trails in Lake Tahoe were still very icy and covered in snow, so I thought I had a better chance in Truckee, and I totally did. I went to Bike Truckee to rent a bike, and they were super knowledgeable about what trails were safe to ride on and where is most scenic. And they gave me a physical map explaining everything. The guy I talked to (maybe he's the owner/manager?) also gave me a little bit discount instead of fully charging me the half day price when I said I will only have 3 hours before I need to head out, which was really generous. Finally, the bikes were really well-maintained, so I felt safe riding it.

Super kind and helpful. They didn't have an e-bike for my 8 year old since we came in late on a Saturday, they were all rented out. So they pulled one off of their sales floor next door so my family of 4 can go bike riding on the Legacy trail. Highly recommend this place.

My wife and I needed to rent bikes to ride in Truckee and they these gentlemen were very kind and very knowledgeable and very helpful. I highly recommend this bicycle shop for renting or buying. They also have a very large selection of E bikes, and are very knowledgeable of all trails.

This was truly an incredible experience and we HIGHLY recommend this company! We rented electric bikes while on a trip to celebrate my husbands 40th birthday with friends. The location is perfect as you just cross the street to hop on the path. We rented 10 bikes and were out for 3.5 hrs but could have spent several more hours out on the paths. We just brought snacks but you could plan a stop at a restaurant along the way or bring a picnic. From the reservations to making tweaks to our rentals to making signing waivers simple for a group, the whole experience was simple and the staff were very friendly and helpful! The bikes were simple to use with no previous experience, had small packs to store water or a sweatshirt. Riding along the Truckee river was beautiful! Even going up the hills was simple because of the electric assist. What an epic experience!

Great service, caring and family oriented. We came from the Bay Area because this family owned business was honest and wasn't just trying to sell their merchandise but found the solution which was an easy fix.

Rented out e-bikes on 4/3 and had an awesome experience! The lady who owns this business was super nice and helpful! Also, just want to mention that this was the ONLY bike place open for e bike rentals, all the others said they were still in winter rentals (skis, snowshoes etc due to snow on the trails), so I was so happy when they said they would rent bikes to us !!! We called and told them how many bikes/what time, and they came in and met us at a certain time (appointment only this time of year). We headed out to the e bike trail on the way to northstar---beautiful ride through a scenic, green valley, only a tiny bit of snow on the trail. Trail was pretty much clear and we had no issues. Bikes ran great, they are pedal assist. Will definitely rent from Bike truckee again! Support local businesses, especially this one!

Friends and I spontaneously decided to give mountain biking in the snow a shot this past weekend and, thanks to Bike Truckee, loved every second of it. We rented the fat tire eBikes and were set up with detailed directions to the suggested trail nearby (Sawtooth Trail). The eBikes were super user-friendly and we were given all the information needed for a successful ride. Two of us forgot gloves and were generously taken care of so we wouldn't have to purchase gloves. 10/10 experience, we will definitely be back!

Super excited about my first trip on an e-bike, they were so helpful and friendly! Highly recommend getting your bike here and then follow the trails . They also provide helmets!

From beginning to end, our experience at Bike Truckee was flawless! They have quality bikes, excellent customer service, and competitive rates. We had a full day of bike riding and did not have any difficulty whatsoever with our bikes. We will definitely go back again, hopefully soon!

We feel so lucky to find this place on our final day of Tahoe trip! The selection of the bikes were fantastic, but most of all, the owners Rachel and Denis are absolutely wonderful and very helpful. While biking the trail, I had a chain issue (because of my lack of experience). When I contacted the store, they quickly responded and swapped the bike at the trail. Because of the quality of the bikes and their excellent services, I highly recommend this place for anyone! I can't wait to go back again!! Kazusa

We rented 3 ebikes for the day. All 3 Mt bikes worked flawlessly. Staff was over the top helpful... we got in, adjusted the bikes, put on our pedals, chatted and left. Drop off was simple and fast. Highly recommended. Bull ebike rentals were in perfect shape!

Fantastic service from the well masked crew at Bike Truckee. We had reservations with another area bike rental provider, but when those plans fell through, Bike Truckee saved the day for us. They also provided excellent trail guidance which provided a memorable day for our family. For you out-of-towners with no means of transporting bikes, this location is very well situated for local rides with plenty of room to leave your car parked at the shop. They really were trying to help everyone they could during our hectic pickup of the bikes...a gentleman came in with a flat, and even though they were swamped, they helped fix the flat and get another rider out on the trails. What a great local shop.

Stopped by to buy some gear. Staff were friendly and offered advice about local trails and riding in the area. Great business staffed with great people.

OMG we got lucky finding this bike shop in Truckee! We thought we were going to have to drive to South Lake Tahoe to rent bikes, an hour away. We went to a Thurs. Farmers Mkt in Truckee lo & behold we saw the bike shop & stopped in talked to the owner & let him know we were looking to rent E-bikes, they had them brand spanking new, he told us we could rent them we went back the next day, he wasn't there but the 2 guys working confirmed the rental with him by phone, then got us set-up on bikes, helmets & a lock! The price was very reasonable & we had the time of our life riding 17 miles in pure beauty, over some hills & a long the river, it was the highlight of our trip! Thank you also for the tips on where to go check out & the map!

Great fun activity for our stay at Donner Lake. My wife and I did half day rentals on ebikes. We are both 67 and in good shape but getter no up steep hills can be tough. This was our first time on ebike and Wow! We loved them. They were so easy to use, shift gears and change the assist level from eco to high. Going up steep hills was a breeze and made our ride so enjoyable. Great service and instruction and directions from the staff before we left. The Truckee River trail is paved and about a 30-40 ride from the shop. After that we tried other paved trail through the forest. Really fun but pricey $60 per bike for a half day but so much fun it was worth it. Highly recommended. We may buy ebikes back home.

Excellent service all around. We came here to rent some bikes to ride and the staff here are very tourist friendly taking the time to point you to the bike trails and making sure you got the right helmet and bike. At about $10 per hour for a standard bike rental, this is some good, cheap entertainment especially if you like nature and biking. The folks here are really nice and friendly; in fact they let us parked our cars in the lot while we went on our bike ride saving us parking meter money!

Would give 10 stars if I could! This is one of those special shops where the owner and staff clearly are passionate and want to share their passion with their customers. They rent and sell high quality bikes, provide excellent technical tune up service, help you find fun trails that fit you level and interest, and you can feel the hope they have that you will love bikes as much as they do. I stop in a couple times a year because I live really far away. They remember my name, where I'm driving from, and got that extra-mile. I have bike shops in my home town but have had terrible service. This is a family business and they make me feel like family. They are just the best!!!

Very easy to rent a bike and they were quick to get us on our way. They are located near a great bike bath which also makes it easy.

Extremely nice shop! The owner was super helpful. We normally mountain bike in San Diego and use full suspension. I saw he had electric mountain bikes for rent so I decided to try them. Best decision I ever made was to get the electric bikes. We had so much fun because we were able to climb farther and faster. Do yourself a favor get the electric one for the little extra money!

5 stars! Fantastic service and equipment. My family of 4 loved our experience biking along the majestic Truckee River. The kids even saw a few trains go by on the tracks on the other side of the river. We had a great time. The bikes were perfect. Highly recommended!

We have rented from these guys twice and also purchased bikes from them. They are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We will continue to use them and refer them. Nice local family owns the place.

The entire crew at Bike Truckee is awesome. Dennis was able to sort a XL E-Bike frame for me and it did not disappoint. Some great service, a great selection of all things biking. Wish more shops were as service focused as Dennis and his crew. Thanks again!

I didn't actually get service here but I just stopped in because I was pretty sure my shock was blown out. The staff here is very friendly and confirmed my suspicions and gave me recommendations for how to resolve it. I was just passing through but if I was in the area I would definitely take my bike here for service as they are helpful and know what they are doing.

Our new Bulls bike stopped working. We talked to the Bulls warranty rep, who asked us to try several fixes. Didn't work. So we took it to Bike Truckee under warranty. Bike Truckee fixed it immediately. They know more about the bikes than the factory rep! And they were nicer also. Live this bike shop. They get all my business now.

Needed to rent a small e-bike. They had one ready and available. Pickup was super easy and the staff were practicing super covid safe measures (masks, outdoor sign out desk and payment, sanitizer). Highly recommend for bike rentals.

5 stars all the way! I'm so glad we found Bike Truckee. We called ahead and the bikes were ready when we arrived. Cece was so nice and very helpful getting my family of 4 set up. The location is perfect for easy access to the beautiful Legacy trail but also to Jack Ass trail for some mountain biking. We were able to experience both and had a wonderful day. I was so impressed with the kind service and practically new well maintained bikes. Thank you so much Bike Truckee and Cece!!!

I had an excellent experience at Bike Truckee. I rented 2 bikes from their shop in early August 2020; due to COVID all reservations must be made in advance which was easy to do online. When we arrived the morning of our reservation the bikes were set up already to go for us. The staff were all wearing masks and we felt very safe. They also provided us with helmets and a bike lock at no extra charge. They have maps there for you to take and we used those to figure out some trails to go on for the day. If you aren't sure where to bike - definitely head along the Truckee River Legacy Trail - it's a beautiful paved trail along the river. I would definitely rent from Bike Truckee the next time I'm in town and recommend you do so as well!

Love this place. Our go to for local bike rentals. Fabulous staff. Super friendly and helpful. Family owned. Perfect location for a long family bike ride. We went on a four hour bike ride, along the Truckee river and into Truckee for lunch. Bikes were awesome! All four were great bikes and in perfect condition.

Family of four biked the paved Legacy trail up to the Glenshire general store. It's about 10 miles or so round trip. The bike shop hooked us up with comfortable bikes and gave us easy directions as well as a map. The bike shop folks were friendly, helpful and have great recommendations. The prices are fair. The bikes worked well, we had no problems. Comfy seats and plenty of gears! The river is gorgeous and it's an easy ride. The last 1/2 mile of the trail is uphill but it's a switchback so not too steep. Sweeping views of the river, creek and railroad tracks. We saw a train coming through. It was so picturesque! After refreshments at the general store, we made our way back. It's about a 2 hour ride. I'd rent from them again and explore more of beautiful Truckee!

We had a great experience! The staff was super friendly and helpful and the entire process very easy. We rented two e-bikes for a week to get around Truckee (as we were sharing one vehicle with another couple). It was SO MUCH FUN and a great way to get around/sightsee. Highly recommend!

Locally owned and operated. They know it all, they have it all, they do nothing but great Bikes for all uses, and they rent, sell and fix them right there. Reasonably priced, but here's the KEY...they are just really decent fair people to deal with.

LONG BUT MUST READ! I went in on a Tuesday looking for a bike to compete in a triathlon that Sunday. I talked to a woman who was very helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. I ended up renting for the day ($45) to make sure the bike was a good fit. She told me if I liked the bike, I could also buy for $550 which was definitely worth it (about $700 new). I planned to rent until Sunday which would have been about $300, but I decided to go back the following day and ask to see the other bike since they had 2 of the same exact bike (the one I rented had a few marks from handle bar scuffs on the frame and probably bike rack scuffs and I was hoping to purchase whichever had less marks. Again, not a big deal considering I was okay buying the one I originally rented for said price). The next day, I went in and was helped out by a middle aged gentlemen (pretty sure they were the owners!! Didn't get their names). He showed me the other bike and it had the same marks in the same places. I asked the price and he said he would have to look. I told him the price the woman mentioned the day prior, and after he looked it up, he told me he would sell it to me for $450 due to it being a used bike with those marks in the frame. The fact he knew I would have bought it for $550 and still gave me a $100 dollar discount is integrity and customer service at its finest!! Best bike shop experience ever. After I paid, I looked up their reviews and was not surprised to see they had a five star rating. I never write reviews but how could I not after such an experience? I also picked up 2 bike tubes, a portable bike pump, and a water bottle (he said the water bottle was on the house). Best service ever.

These guys are great. We rented e-bikes for the day and were given excellent customer service. Personnel at the shop gave great suggestions for nearby rides and were patient with our rookie questions. They're located right next to the legacy trail in Truckee so were amazingly conveinient. Really good place to rent bikes when you're in Truckee.

Bike Truckee was AMAZING!! They were referred to us by my son who lives in the area. Reservations were a breeze, we stopped in on Sunday and made them for the following day. Best part - We brought our dog with us and one of the gals allowed us to rent her dog trailer to accommodate - How awesome is that? We even got a run down on purchasing Ebikes. Great Staff and Great Bikes!! Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Our experience started out good however we ran into a hailstorm. When we called Bike Truckee and asked for a ride back to the bike shop they said that they don't provide that service. We specifically asked about the weather before we rented and were told that the weather would be good. They also suggested that we ride to Donner Lake and gave us a marked up map on how to get there. This is where we ran into the hailstorm. We pleaded for a ride and were told we might have a ride if we waited 45 minutes. We ultimately hitched a ride back with a stranger. Being apologetic or offering to give a discount would have been an appropriate customer service gesture but this did not happen sadly. The bikes were great. Make sure you check the weather diligently before you go.

Bike Truckee is amazing. They are hands-down the most knowledgable, friendly, welcoming, and customer-service oriented bike operation in Truckee. Dennis and Rachel make a great team and know how to help you have the best possible time on two wheels. Whether you are renting for a family outing (from kiddos and trail-a-bikes to cruisers suitable of for grandparents) on the Legacy Trail, checking out some of the epic single track trails in and around Tahoe, or you want to give an eBike a go... Bike Truckee is the place to go. I am so excited they are opening their new downtown Truckee location this spring (2019)! If you want to ride some bikes, don't hesitate to call Bike Truckee.
