I recently took my bike to this shop due to issues with the chain and gears. As someone new to cycling, I bought my bike second-hand for a low price just to get me to and from work (10-15 minute ride). The person who assisted me initially recommended a full setup, explaining that the bike hadn’t been properly assembled. Trusting their expertise, I agreed to proceed. However, when I returned to pick up my bike, I noticed a squeaking noise as a staff member wheeled it over to me. When she brought it back to the mechanic, I overheard him comment that my bike had “bad brakes and low-quality parts” in a rather dismissive tone. I understand that my bike isn’t high-end, and it doesn’t need to be for my purpose. Following that, I took my bike outside to try riding it, and I found the original issue hadn’t been resolved. After returning it to the shop, I heard the mechanic discuss that my bike was a "really s - word bike". The mechanic ultimately fixed the main problem, but I felt the entire experience lacked respect.
I understand my bike may not be the best quality, but that doesn’t excuse poor customer service. Not everyone can afford a high-end bike, especially in a place like Oxford where theft is a concern.
Me and my s-word bike won't be returning to the shop…
