"Reasonably priced food is somewhat hard to come by in the upscale hamlet of Lake Louise, which is why Bill Peyto’s Café is such a find. Located in the HI Lake Louise Alpine Centre hostel and within walking distance of the Samson Mall, Peyto's has a sizable dining room and an outdoor patio that's perfect for relaxing on warm, sunny days. The menu is almost as vast as a classic Greek diner's, including everything from a Thai stir-fry to a traditional poutine, but its dishes are executed flawlessly. (If you're looking for standard pub fare, you can choose from plenty of burger options.) Servings are generous and cheap, meaning you'll want to arrive early to lock down a table—especially in the summer."

Perfect dinner after a full day exploring Moraine Lake & Lake Louise We enjoyed a relaxed and satisfying dinner at Bill Peyto’s Café after a day visiting the two stunning lakes. The atmosphere was warm and rustic, a perfect fit for unwinding after time in the mountains. We ordered a variety of dishes: the cheeseburger with Broccoli‑Cheese Soup of the Day, Penne Marinara, the Crispy Chicken Parmesan Burger, and the Jalapeño Burger. They offer an optional upgrade to an Alberta bison patty for an extra $3, though we stuck with the regular patties. One highlight was that water was served freely - and it tasted fresh, not chlorinated. That really impressed us! The portion sizes were generous relative to the price, and overall we felt the quality and quantity offered excellent value - great price‑performance for the Lake Louise area. Service was friendly and efficient - they handled everything with a smile. We appreciated the cozy mountain‑style decor and the casual, welcoming vibe; clearly a local favorite among hikers and visitors alike. All in all, a terrific dinner spot after a long day outdoors. Friendly staff, hearty meals, and fair pricing - highly recommended!

We were looking for a quiet place to eat. This place was perfect. Service was fantastic!! Atmosphere was very quaint. We got the chili which was a huge serving it came with tortilla chips.Sorry we dug into the chili before I took the picture. We went back the next day for Hamburgers which was also huge and wonderful. We would highly recommend eating.

Solid stop for a bite in the mountains! Dropped by Bill Peyto’s Cafe after a day of exploring and ordered the burger — nothing fancy, but it hit the spot. Juicy, satisfying, and just what I needed after some fresh mountain air. The vibe is laid-back and cozy, perfect for travelers or campers passing through. Not the best burger I’ve ever had, but definitely a decent one, and I’d come back to try more from the menu. Great place for a chill meal in a beautiful setting!

On our road trip through Jasper and Banff, we stopped in for gas and happened to this place driving by. Decided to go back and dine in. No regrets! Staff were very friendly, service was great and the good was delicious! We will be stopping for food here everytime we drive through.

Nothing like a good meal after a day of hiking and nature. I ordered the Penne Bolognese and it was absolutely delicious with the portion being very generous too. Staff were nice as well. Highly recommended!

Google
They have multiple vegan options, but they’re haphazardly identified on the menu (they only have a vegetarian label). One or two dishes have “vegan” in the name, but several of the vegetarian ones are actually vegan or can be made that way, so you have to ask. I had the oatmeal for breakfast (plain, but large portion size) and the vegan buffalo wings for dinner which were very good and the only substantial vegan protein I’ve found in about a week in the region. Recommended if you’re in Lake Louise. P.S. I’m not sure why there are wooden sticks in the buffalo wings (are they trying to replicate the experience of eating off the bone?), just grab, twist, and pull, and they come right out.

My family and I stayed in Canada for three days and we went to Bill Peyto’s cafe twice because it was so good. Between the two meals and six people in my family, we managed to order 11 different things off the menu and we were not disappointed with anything. Everyone in my family thought the French fries were the best we’ve ever had. We also loved the cheeseburgers, pasta, and Reuben sandwich. Both times we went there they had a lot of people waiting but they were very efficient at getting tables ready and didn’t have to wait long. Despite the crowd, our family of six never had to wait long at all for our meals once we had ordered. The very best part of Bill Peyto’s cafe was our waitress, Linda. She was such a nice, funny, and personable waitress. We came back the second time hoping she would be our waitress again and she was. She recognized us, asked about our trip, and answered any questions we had about the menu. She is the true gem of Bill Peyto’s cafe!!

Yelp
This dining discovery was just down the road from our hotel and a welcome sight after a day of being tourists. Guess we were still tourists when we stopped in for dinner. Our server made us feel welcomed as we looked through the menu, lots of good choices. I decided on their Reuben Sandwich, one of my favorite picks when I eat out. The food for the 3 of us was ready quickly, like 7 minutes quick, even though the restaurant itself was quite busy. My sandwich was different to me, in that the meat was thick sliced like you would serve ham. It's listed on the menu as 6 oz of Montreal smoked meat. The thousand island dressing also came in small containers, so some assembly was needed. It was a good messy sandwich, light on taste but good with volume. We finished our meal by sharing a Toffee Pudding something. This is not made by the restaurant, it's imported from Calgary, but it was a nice sweet ending to our day.

Yelp
Very solid spot for vegetarians looking for a variety of food. We tried the falafel wrap, vegan wings, marinara pasta, and stick toffee pudding cake and they were amazing. The stick toffee pudding cake and the falafel wrap are a MUST here.

Yelp
"I can only yell so loud." I would honestly give this place zero stars if possible. I walked in and placed my name on the list for two. I was told to go upstairs to wait 30 minutes and she would yell my name. Around 35-40 minutes I went back down stairs to check. She had a strong accent and struggled pronouncing my name "Spencer" when putting it down, so I wanted to make sure. She said "I'm sorry I yelled your name. I can only yell so loud, I can place you on the bottom of this list." I asked how long that would be. She said "another 30 minutes like I told you". This woman watched me go up the stairs. I could have dealt with the wait, but the attitude and tone she had showing the complete lack of any customer service is frustrating. Hopefully you all will correct this for the future!

Yelp
This place is super convenient and tasty if your staying or visiting Banff national park. The Korean chicken sandwich has quite an interesting taste with a cucumber kimchi while being smothered in Korean bbq sauce. There is a bit of spice and a very unique flavor. As the waiter said you'll like it if you like it. Personally hard to taste the chicken itself because it's fried and the thick bun very bready chicken burger. The Buffalo wrap was pretty, tasted like your average wrap nothing bad to say about it. The poutine fries are something else, gives me breakfast vibes but very filling. The set up of the meal is so cute with the side dish with a reasonable size. The waiter we had was very nice if you vegan or vegetarian they are very aware of requirement with types of butter used etc. they respect people and their choices. You are their number one.

Yelp
Located in a hostel, this was a pretty affordable option for a quick dinner stop. Ordered the Peyto burger which was pretty good- beef patty was well cooked, and I particularly appreciated the fried onions and bacon. It was a little bit too sweet for my liking, but still quite delicious. Fries were alright, nothing special. Still, this was a great end to a long day of enjoying some beautiful Canadian scenery!

Yelp
We went to this restaurant across our hotel (Lake Louise Inn) because Legends restaurant inside our hotel was not good. The food was overpriced, drinks and food didn't taste good, and service was slow. At Bill Peyto's it was busy, but worth the wait. We liked the food so much we went twice. Service was good on the first visit and not so good on the second visit. The prices were good for the big plate of food and the drinks were poured generously. It's located in a hostile on the first floor.

Yelp
This is a busy and popular restaurant and arguably known as the best casual eatery in the Lake Louise village. It is located in a hostel and they don't take reservations, so be prepared for a wait at prime time in this touristy village. The wife and I had dinner here and it lived up to its reputation for us. I had a local Evolution IPA ($10 CAD or $7.39 USD) and an elk burger with fries ($20 CAD or $14.78 USD) and the wife had their chicken souvlaki platter ($25 CAD or $18.46 USD). The souvlaki platter was fresh and delicious. I enjoyed my elk burger and I just wanted to have the leaner patty just because I hadn't had one in quite a few years. It hit the spot with the IPA. We had a 30 minute wait on a Monday evening and ended up sharing a table with a cordial young Polish couple who traveled from Poland to vacation in Alaska and this area for the first time. The server was efficient, friendly, and attentive. Lake Louise Village can be a vibrant scene with visitors from all over the world and this place has probably served a whole bunch of them and now us as well.

Yelp
This place had so many great reviews that we came here for dinner just after arriving in town. Lake Louise is limited in dining options, so if you're staying in Lake Louise, you'll probably end up eating at all the restaurants they have available. This restaurant had a long wait, about 45 minutes for 2 people. It's very small. But the staff are super nice. We ordered the elk burger and Smoked meat poutine. Both were really good. Definitely recommend this restaurant. Just be prepared for a long wait.

Yelp
Stayed four nights in Lake Louise. Went to Bill Peyto's cafe four times. Read Yelp reviews as seeking a more local place. Dinner-thoroughly enjoyed a very fresh green salad with very flavorful tomatoes alongside their delicious famous Montreal smoked meat sandwich Lunch- split with spouse Reuben sandwich and mushroom Swiss burger. Again the salad was super fresh and yummy Breakfast-went twice! Shared the fruit bowl and scrambled omelette with cheese. Views are lovely and staff is very nice. Lovely vibe. Part of a hostel. Highly recommend

Yelp
This place is a sleeper HIT! Not only is the food great, but the service we received was AWESOME! We came on 2 separate occasions. The first time, our server, Bob, was so friendly and informative and had a great attitude. The second time, we were seated in Linda's section and she was a hoot! So friendly, and fun... she was a vibe! (And we were not an entirely easy group, we were traveling as a family of 9 with 2 younger kids!) The smoked meat poutine is a must get! (If you're from the US, it's similar to corned beef, but made better with fries, gravy, and cheese haha). We were pretty happy with everything we ordered, but the poutine is definitely the standout! *Warning* The place is pretty small and the wait can get kinda long... but I really do think the wait is worth it- be sure to make this a "must eat" place when you're visiting!

Yelp
Probably the best option for food in this town. We came here for breakfast and dinner and both times left feeling satisfied. Everything we ordered was fine - nothing memorable - but prices were reasonable and service was good. The environment here is definitely no-frills, but still comfortable and spacious enough. We saw groups of 2 up to 10 stopping in. For dinner, the Famous Montreal smoked meat sandwich and the Peyto burger were our favorites. The Alberta beef chili was also good, with cheese that melted in and chips for dipping. We capped it off with a brownie and vanilla ice cream, which was divine. For breakfast, we had omelettes and a bowl of oatmeal with cinnamon and brown sugar. Large portion sizes for both, and we had the option to sub out toast for fruit as sides. The toast came already buttered which was nice. The black coffee came with a free refill, which I needed that morning. Our servers on both visits were friendly and checked in often. Food arrived quickly and nothing disappointed us. We were in and out pretty quickly. Also I'm still thinking about that brownie...

Yelp
Loved this cute little restaurant inside of a hostel near Lake Louise. The food was consistently delicious with big portions and reasonable prices, especially for a tourist area without many options. My group went here 3 times in 3 days (twice for dinner, once for breakfast) and I would highly recommend it. For dinner, I'd recommend ordering the chicken stir fry with a side of white rice. We thought the stir fry was delicious already but a tad too salty. By adding some more rice, it was even better. The chili was really heartwarming and paired perfectly with the tortilla chips it came with and the sweet potato fries with Chipotle Mayo. The elk burger has such an interesting taste, I've never had elk before but it was nice and tender and juicy, on such a soft bun! There's free parking and this place is right by the freeway and gas stations. The service is very friendly and relatively quick, though during the dinner rush they are understandably very busy. I'd definitely come again if I ever visit Lake Louise again!

Yelp
Very reasonable place in "downtown' Lake Louise. It's located at a youth hostel, so don't expect top notch ambiance, but the food was good and prices were reasonable. I had the Fettucine Alfredo which was very tasty. They had a few beers on tap, and kids meal options. Overall, for the price, I'd say it was very good. This place is easily walkable from Lake Louise Inn and Post Hotel.

Yelp
Pretty good option for food (vegetarian friendly) if you're a little further from downtown Banff! My friends and I were looking for a lunch spot after exploring Lake Louise but didn't want to drive all the way down to Banff and back up for more exploring and this was the perfect little cafe. It's a restaurant located at a hostel but is also open to the public. I ordered the elk burger and a side of poutine to share. First time trying elk and it was just as tasty and juicy as beef but leaner (which i prefer). My friends thought the poutine was decent but I've had it from Fritz in Vancouver so it was just okay for me. There aren't too many restaurants in the Lake Louise area so this place would be your best bet for good food!
google avatar

Yelp
It's located in a Hostel. Service was decent. Food was average. Beer was good. It was very busy in there. We read reviews for Lake Louise restaurants and this was one of better ones. We ordered beef brisket sandwich, chicken pasta and sticky toffee pudding. Beef brisket reminded me of corn beef. Chicken pasta was good but the pasta itself was a bit under cooked. It was a new interpretation of the Sticky toffee pudding. We waited half hour for our food. Don't go there when you are starving.

Yelp
Amazing little pub at Lake Louise Skip the high prices in the village Jump over to the hostel and have a wonderful. Casual atmosphere Friendly service. I had Battered cod and Broccoli Cheese Soup. Excellent. Try the Elk Burger the best.
google avatar

Denise P.

Yelp
Had a great inexpensive, no-frills meal for dinner at this Cafe (that looked like it's attached to a hostel?) We had a late lunch that day, so we decided to split a burger, poutine, and a soup. Soup of the day was gumbo so we were pretty happy! The only opportunity was the poutine sauce, it wasn't hot enough so the curds stayed in tact and most did not melt.

Shawn M.

Yelp
Food was great and service was fantastic. Bla bla bla bla review does not need more words.
google avatar

Shanelle S.

Yelp
Homey restaurant located inside the hostel. Came here for a quick brunch prior to heading to Lake Louise on a weekday and there was no wait. Service was friendly. Free parking available. I had a bowl of chili which came with bread and my friend had a cheeseburger. The food was hearty and there was a good variety in the menu. Credit cards accepted. Restrooms located on the bottom level, down the stairs. Free WiFi is available.

Jeff K.

Yelp
This place is fantastic. Terrific food, reasonable prices and a nice staff. We accidentally found this place looking for a dinner restaurant in town. We liked it so much we returned the following days for lunch and breakfast. We'll be back again before our vacation ends. It can be tricky to find the first time - but well worth the effort IMO.

Yelp
this was the perfect post hike lunch spot! the elk burger was solid but nothing extraordinary to write home about. the elk tastes very similar to a normal beef burger. the winning dish was definitely the smoked meat poutine. my friends and i ended up getting a second one because it was so delicious!! the meat with the fries, melted cheese curds, and hearty gravy was the absolute perfect combo. i would go back just for this! ambiance and service are both standard. it is cozy and nice inside. i would highly recommend the poutine!
google avatar

Yuri J.

Yelp
We stopped by after visiting Lake Louise and it was the perfect post-hike meal. The service was AMAZING - our server was so friendly and attentive! It's a small and quaint restaurant that's part of an inn, offering breakfast lunch and dinner! The Peyto burger is filling and hearty. We got poutine and sweet potato fries which were delicious. Such a great meal after a long hike. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Lara G.

Yelp
Perfect place for a casual and cheap dinner after being exhausted from hiking. Great burger!
google avatar

Sammie S.

Yelp
Lots of parking in behind the hotel. Because it is relatively affordable and beside the village in Lake Louise, expect to wait for a table during peak times. The food was good. Service was excellent. It was busy and our server was very thorough in managing allergies.
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
We ate the stir fry bowls. They were both delicious! Known for beer; still had a decent wine selection at a reasonable price. Fun place to eat. Great scenery!!! Service staff is very attentive.

Hannah B.

Yelp
Great food choice at lake louise. Service was great and relaxed atmosphere. I recommend eating here after getting straight off the slopes.
google avatar

YM C.

Yelp
Solid service and food here. The menu is simple. The food comes out fairly quickly and there isn't a lot of frills. We loved it. The burger was juicy. The poutine was the right about of savory. The place is clean and open. Great for a quick bite or sit down with friends and family.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
There aren't a ton of dining options in Lake Louise that aren't limited to hotel guests, and I'm glad we stumbled upon Bill Peyto's. It's attached to a hostel, which was interesting to see as I've never stayed in one. The restaurant has its own entrance and is open to everyone. The menu includes history and fun facts about the are and Bill Peyto, which was cool. The staff were very nice. I had the Cajun chicken sandwich with a side of poutine. It wasn't too spicy, and it was all filling and very good. I also had the locally-crafted black cherry soda, which I would highly recommend. I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the area. It's the perfect lunch stop. when you're out at Lake Louise or hiking. The dinner menu looked good as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Staying at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise fit 5 nights - realized that three restaurants that we have gone to has pretty the same menu. Needing something else to eat in town. This place is a Must!!! They don't take reservations!!! First come first served. Located at hostel Ho Canada. Nice cozy place. Great selection of food in the menu. Our server was so awesome, quick to sit us down and get our orders. Even though he was busy, he followed up with our food and drinks. Good selection of local drinks. My soon enjoyed their Angry Peyto burger- it was spicy and juicy. I had their butter chicken- their take off tikka masala- great flavor; yes they could add more heat but I didn't ask. My wife enjoyed her Thai noodle. Make room for dessert!!!

Lak Z.

Yelp
We popped in with our baby for lunch on our way back from sightseeing. Server was very accommodating. Elk burgs were alright. Lunch had hit the spot. We were back on the road in no time. Bright interior. Lots of windows to look out of.
google avatar

Anna H.

Yelp
This place was recommended to us by the concierge and it did not disappoint. I had the burger and other members of my group had the Alfredo and the chicken sandwich and all gave raving reviews. The one thing that was a little questionable was the service. Our waiter did not write down our orders and unfortunately they were messed up slightly but nothing too terrible. The speed of the food and attentiveness to our table was still spot on. The inside is cute and definitely rustic which makes sense for the area.
google avatar

Jake C.

Yelp
After a busy day hiking, Bill, Po's Café was exactly what we needed. The food was very fast very good and served with care.
google avatar

Carol G.

Yelp
The restaurant was only at 10 minute walk from our stay in the village. There was a waitlist. The restaurant is small and the tables are small to accommodate more people. We had a delicious Caesar salad and chicken fettuccine, which was delicious as well. We enjoyed our meal and it was enough to split with even leftovers. Service was good.
google avatar

Glenn G.

Yelp
We would never have even heard of this place were it not for a Lake Louise guidebook. It's in a hostel on an unassuming road across from the Lake Louise Inn. Boy, did we luck out. We arrived for dinner and the back parking lot was packed. We managed to get the last table before the host started taking names for a wait list. The food is unassuming but delicious. We enjoyed a mushroom Swiss burger and battered cod. On the waiter's recommendation, we also got the sticky toffee pudding cake and it was oh so decadent. Prices were very reasonable and the vibe was very cozy and relaxed. Just note that they don't take reservations, so come early or be prepared to wait.
google avatar

Sara T.

Yelp
We enjoyed our dinner here. My husband and daughter had the elk burger and Peyto burgers, which they thought were very good. I had the chicken strips, which didn't seem to be made in-house, but they were crispy and good. The fries were fine, but not my favorite type with skin-on. The kids pizza was definitely frozen, but he was glad to have the option anyway. Conveniently located across from our hotel. Good, efficient waiter.
google avatar

Joni S.

Yelp
The butter chicken was absolutely fantastic and the wait staff was very nice. It was exactly what I was looking for after a day of hiking. The sticky toffee dessert was also a good choice!
google avatar

Blythe L.

Yelp
Such a great little place! We had delish elk burgers & poutine. Fun place, Bob our server was awesome & gave us some nice reccos for other things to do on our trip. Great beer prices too! Super place for after a hike or day by Lake Louise.
google avatar

Ricky W.

Yelp
Great attentive service. Food was delicious. If I didn't search online first would have never known it was there. Worth a visit.
google avatar

Melanie L.

Yelp
Sorry I forgot which exact salad we got. I think it was the house salad with chicken. We were just craving greens. Portions here are pretty huge. The sweet potato fries look small but it was a LOT! We also had dessert... the toffee pudding cake. I thought it would be more pudding but it was actually more cake. It was delicious! Normally I don't order dessert, but I think this is definitely worth a try!
google avatar

Vicky T.

Yelp
My friends got stir fry chicken and butter chicken which were really good and flavorful. My Thai curry was super bland. Service was good eventhough they were short staffed and the restaurant was busy. The price was reasonable in the area. The poutine was also good.
google avatar

Kami S.

Yelp
The best place to eat for a reasonably priced meal in the area! We ended up eating here 4 nights in a row and one breakfast. First off they had the best Poutine of our trip and we had a lot of poutine! Also loved the BLT, cajun chicken sandwich, Alfredo with bacon, toffee pudding desert and the salmon cream cheese bagel for breakfast. They also have cheep beer pitchers which we really enjoyed.
google avatar

Zach H.

Yelp
Bill Peyto's Cafe is in the heart of Banff National Park, near Lake Louise. It's in a log cabin hostel which is very welcoming. The service was great throughout my time eating. I got the chicken burger and it was fire! It had great size and flavor too. 5 Stars
google avatar

Nina C.

Yelp
Surprise find for lunch! I'm picky with burgers and I loved my order (burger with mushroom). The side of poutine was also delicious! Great service as well.
google avatar

Christina P.

Yelp
BEWARE: Auto gratuity of 18% with zero notice (this is the baseline of what I normally tip but I don't like to have it thrown on as a fee, without notice). But not only that, the waitress had the audacity to explain that that 18% was for the kitchen staff, and that I need to tip separately for her. What the hell? I get that this is a touristy area but it's $18 for a very bland and small-patty burger with dry French fries, which while not cheap, I can live with because I agreed to pay those prices when I ordered. What I DID NOT agree to is to be forced to pay a mandatory 18% gratuity and then tip on top of that (I genuinely believe the waitress was expecting me to tip another 18-20% just for her based on her wording of how the 'gratuity was for the kitchen') Got a huff and dirty look, along with slamming down of receipt when we refused to tip on top of the auto-added gratuity Seriously. If there is a mandatory fee that is not tax, add it to the base price. This is a very messed up way to do business and I should not be getting such a rude treatment from the wait staff for refusing to tip on top of a mandatory 18% gratuity for what is a very casual restaurant
google avatar

Joe H.

Yelp
Definitely a well worthy stop after a long day of hiking. The wait can be a bit long because it's so popular. I had the Peyto burger substitute with poutine fries...it definitely hit the spot!
google avatar

Linda M.

Yelp
Excellent spot for a early dinner! I had the butter chicken at the suggestion of our server, as I was needing something gluten free. It was amazing!!!! My husband had the fettuccine Alfredo with bacon & chicken and really loved that too. Service was great and so was the food!!!
google avatar

Phuoc P.

Yelp
There is only a few options near Lake Louise/Morraine Lake area. So we decided to have lunch here, as this is the first option popped up on our burger yelp results. The Elk Burger is good. The patty is tasty which make the burger more flavorful. The Poutine is also good but not the best. I also love the service here. All the servers are very nice! They checked up on us a few times to make sure we enjoy our foods. We came at noon but not really busy. Plenty of parking.
google avatar

Winter W.

Yelp
Long wait (1 hour) but not surprising given it's located in a touristy area. We ordered the falafel wrap with fries (can choose house salad as an alternative) and butter chicken with naan. The falafel wrap was mostly lettuce and I expected the wrap to be heated. The fries were very dry and not good. The butter chicken was okay but not spicy at all. Would not recommend or go back.

Megan G.

Yelp
One. Of the few places you can get a mid priced meal where you don't need a reservation with a Casual atmosphere in Lake Louise. We had the alfredo dishes, which seemed small but were quite filling. Flavor was nice but nothing that made the tastebuds sing. Our server was nice but not as interactive or friendly as we would have liked. Good for what they are all things considered.
