Billy Bob's Hamburgers - Castroville

Loved the fried fish batter. Great batter! Friendly staff was also welcoming. Hush puppies were a nice lunch surprise.

Flavor: A- Service: A Tea: A Solo dining: A Billy Bob’s is a four-location mini-chain in small towns west of San Antone. You just never know if a little empire like this became successful because it’s good or if the people in these parts just didn’t know any better. I’m happy to report the former in this case. I got the fried egg burger and its patty, which I’d guess is homemade, is juicy and flavorful. One bite in and I could tell we were off to a good start. I wasn’t reaching for the salt & pepper, which I almost expect at a place like this. You could taste the hearty bacon and the over-hard egg (which I would’ve preferred over-easy but I doubt they’re into high-maintenance requests here). And as someone who wouldn’t choose to put ketchup on their burger, the mayo-ketchup combo on this burger worked beautifully. I believe in rating eateries for what they’re trying to do… fast food isn’t trying to be fine dining… Tex-Mex isn’t trying to be authentic… and Billy Bob’s ain’t trying to be trendy or gourmet. And for what they’re trying to do, they’re doing a mighty fine job. I’d give an A- on flavor. For a burger meal under $15 that’s real good. Now, keep in mind all those nice things I said about the burger because I also must mention the fries. They’re crinkle-cut, which I can love, but these needed help. I’ve had communion wafers with more flavor than these fries. It’s bizarre that a flavorful burger could be paired with such a letdown fry. It’s like the what-does-she-see-in-him couple that no one understands. Thankfully salt & pepper was on the table to help breathe life into these innocent potatoes. And one more have-to-mention is the restrooms. If you have to go just a little, hold it. But if you must, I’d remove as much clothing as is socially acceptable. Cause these restrooms either aren’t air conditioned or the A/C was broke and on a hot Texas day it felt like the wrong side of the pearly gates in there. But the burger, if you’ll remember, is good. Visited this location around 7:15pm on 10/02 for To-go order. The drink station smells mildew with open trash can on the side, the sweet tea tasted horrible. strand of hair in my sweet potato fries. Observed the young men making the food had no gloves on. And my burger had a yellow dry circle that was suppose to be “mustard”. Thankfully I took a closer look while adding condiments. Threw the burger away and called the store. The manager on duty stated they couldn’t return unless I drove back there to present my physical card.

PREFACE: I NEVER LEAVE FOOD REVIEWS, EVEN AFTER A BAD EXPERIENCE...Came here a few years ago after moving into the area. We ordered a mix of different foods. Anything that went into the fryer was extremely disgusting, tasted like the fryer oil hadnt been changed in who knows how long, and the burger I ordered was very "mid". I said never again. Fast forward to least week, out of desperation for something quick to eat, we decided to give it another go. I guess time makes no difference in this case. We ordered a spicy chicken sandwich, a grilled chicken sandwich, and a billy bob burger with cheese. Both of the chicken sandwiches were literally rubber, tasted OLD and straight up unedible. I am not exaggerating when I say that I am not a picky eater and would just eat anything if it was relatively edible. These were DISGUSTING. Manager, while he looked extremely irritated since before we walked in, I could tell was not happy but made it right. He gave us replacement burgers free of charge, which were just so greasy the patty slid out of the sandwich when I picked it up....yes just flew right out..like a cartoon. Wack. Never again, this time I mean it. Restaurant was clean and tidy though, if that means anything.

I had the Chupacabra burger combined with the 3 alarm burger. Basically just the Chupacabra burger with the spicy sauce from the 3 alarm burger. It was pretty tasty, but not terribly hot. I like it pretty spicy. The fries and onion rings were good. Staff was friendly. Recommended

Billy bobs is one of the best burgers I have ever had. Everything was hot, fresh and made to order. My egg was cooked perfectly. My wife and son loved their food as well. The restaurant was very clean and the staff super friendly.

Great place, such nice people but the food is great!! Cheeseburger is large with ripe tomatoes, red onions slices, sliced pickles, and lettuce. They even asked if I wanted it all the way with mustard, mayo. The onion rings are huge and crispy. I asked for a turkey sandwich to go for lunch tomorrow, they even put the bun on the side so it doesn’t get wet. Best place I’ve been to in a very long time, Thank You so much! See y’all soon!!!! Used the drive through for our order. The line moved pretty quick. Placed our order. The employee taking the order was a little too energetic and kept talking over me. Got the order placed. I got to the window, paid and the food was ready shortly after. After arriving home, I found that the grilled onions were missing and got one piece of bacon for $1.79. The food was good, just disappointed with the overall order and toppings.
