This excursion was truly unforgettable — a magical experience from start to finish — and much of that is thanks to our wonderful guide, Alexis. The setting itself is breathtaking: a completely untouched landscape where trees with roots plunging into the water form a surreal, almost primeval scene. The lake and the river are so peaceful and pristine that you feel as if you’ve stepped into the pages of National Geographic. And then there’s the bioluminescence — swimming in waters that glow and sparkle with every movement is nothing short of magical. But what truly elevates the whole experience is Alexis. He is not just a guide — he is a passionate storyteller and a deeply knowledgeable naturalist. Certified and constantly expanding his expertise, Alexis shares real facts about the nature and history of the area with contagious enthusiasm. He doesn’t rely on myths or embellishments; instead, he brings the landscape to life with science, history, and insight — all delivered in a way that is engaging and easy to follow. What I appreciated most was his sensitivity to the moment. He knew exactly when to step back and let us simply be — to savour the silence of the sunset, the stillness of the water, or the wonder of swimming in glowing light — and when to step in and enrich the experience with fascinating stories. Even small gestures, like skilfully speeding the boat to get a closer look at birds or preparing a cosy campfire with marshmallows, showed how much care and thought he puts into every detail. This isn’t just a tour — it’s an extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime experience crafted with knowledge, passion, and heart. And Alexis is the reason it becomes something truly special.

We drove to the lagoon with our motorbike (not advisable if you get scared to drive at night, it’s around 30 minutes from the city center to the lagoon) and stopped at the side of the road when we saw the signs for the tours. We didn’t want to spend 600 pesos on a tour, so we decided to go there and try it. They asked us for 150 pesos!! AMAZING!! Tour guides are friendly, and the boat ride is unforgettable. You ride for 15 minutes into the middle of the lagoon and then you jump in the water in the dark! When you move the water lights up due to the plankton. We recommend everyone to do this, we had so much fun!

They told us it would start at 7, but it didn’t begin until 8, with little explanation. The experience was quite different from what I expected—the pictures had set a different scene. We traveled about half an hour into the lagoon, but because of the moonlight there wasn’t much to see at first. Finally, under a tent where it was darker, we could swim and watch the plankton glow and move—magical in its own quiet way 😌💚

Okay service, but due to the light pollution of the city of Puerto Escondido, we couldn’t really have the full experience. They offer a tent to go into, while swimming in the dark. But this is not for everyone I’m afraid. A tent to go into with the boat itself would have been better :-)

100% worth such a unique and beautiful experience. I personally prefer exploring nature and being away from large crowds of people, so you'll get that along with an incredible lagoon tour. And the beach you do the firepit at is incredible. Was all in all, a phenomenal experience. If you like the peace that being in nature brings with it, I couldn't recommend this any more. Ps: bring your own 'chelas' cuz they'll have a cooler you can use throughout the tour.

For what they advertise and what the experience really is, is VERY overpriced and overrated. All other lagoons in the area are the same, so don't waste your money, especially on a tour arranged with a pick up, it was a waste of money.
