Brazil's 2018 Michelin Guides Are Out, and There Are (Finally!) New Two-Star Restaurants

"And 'the authentic moqueca, Brazilian fish stew, is amazing, as are the large prawns topped with crispy garlic crumbs' at Bira de Guaratiba, says Margot Janse, executive chef of Le Quartier Français in South Africa."

As usual one of my favorites in Rio. Far from everytning but worth the visit. Expect to pay 150 per person. One main dish should be more than enough for 3 people. We split in 4 and added 2 pasteis per person. Robalo with lime and farofa de dendê are crazy good. Octopus rice is also a good addition but not a must. View, vibe, food, drinks all are great. Go off rush hour or try to reserve.

A hidden gem, probably the best fish and “moqueca” I ever had. The place is beautiful, and the view is unbelievable. If you went to grumari, it’s worth the visit!

We came here en route from Paratay to Rio and stopped for lunch. The view is lovely. Based on reviews, we had the shrimp stew and thought it was quite tasty. Kids enjoyed the Pastis, which were basics cheese empanadas. Despite the haters, def worth a visit

That’s a great place to visit after Trilha Pedra do Telégrafo. Nice view, friendly staff. I’m happy that we stopped by.

Beautiful views of the water while you eat. Staff is friendly. And the food… well, you have to taste it to understand how delicious it is.

It's always a great idea to take a visitor to this place, it's just playing safe. Great food, wonderful view and excellent service. Pricey but really good. Highly recommend Moqueca mista and caipirinha de maracujá

The food is to die for. Moqueca of shrimp was excellent. You quickly realize the attention to detail. It’s all about quality. The view is very nice. Good cocktails. Expect to wait 45 to 60 minutes for food to be ready.

Yelp
Absolutely the best and worth the long but scenic drive. The views are spectacular and so is the food. Freshest, most tasty seafood I can remember. The sea bass was tender and delicious. Octopus, mussels, squid all wonderful. Crab pastel appetizer a must. Couldn't be better. Can't wait to visit again.

Yelp
ROMANCE ROMANCE ROMANCE! Take a date here for the perfect sunset perched above the water and trees. This infamous spot is right beyond Rio's Zona Sul, just past the famous Grumari beach. The restaurant specializes in seafoods, especially from the Bahia region of Brazil. Their portions are big and a little pricy, but they will gladly make a half portion of anything (except seabass). If there's a wait, get a crab pastry (Pasteis de Siri) and a passion fruit caipirinha (Caipirinha de Maracuja) to wait, and enjoy beautiful waiting area with a view! Have the moqueca, a rich seafood stew/soup made of palm oil, coconut milk, and seafood, served with rice. We also had the seabass filet cooked in lemon and served over onions, with shrimp rice (Filé de Robalo cozido no Limão sobre uma camada de Cebolas em rodelas e com Salsa encima, Acompanha Arroz de Camarão e Farofa de Dendê), and it was my favorite preparation of onions I have ever had. They were super citrusy, and paired with the delicate fish perfectly. The fish itself was divine, delicate, and so soft. The shrimp rice was delicoius and full of flavor, and a generous portion of prawns. Finally, we had the other seafood stew (Caldeirada de Frutos do Mar) and it was equally delicious. I can't praise this restaurant enough for it's food, view, service, and atmosphere. Would gladly come back anytime!

Yelp
Totally overrated place. Yes, very good ambience and beautiful view, but very poor choice at indecent prices. Come on, they charge prices of three stars Michelen guide restaurant. We had a muqueca, supposedly a speciality of the house. Well, it was quite decent, but nothing more than that. Not worth the money nor the 50 miles trip from Rio.

Yelp
One of my #NeedToGo restaurant is just out of the city, near the beautiful beach of Grumari. The specialty of the restaurant is to prepare typical foods from Bahia. Go for the moqueca de camarão, a rich prawn casserole of west African origin, made with coconut milk and palm oil and served with rice. The restaurant is above the coast so the views over the ocean and forest are stunning. It's the perfect day trip.

Yelp
The view is 5-stars, but for a place this remote and this expensive, I am giving it three. The fish is incredibly fresh and the food is good, but its not exactly the mind-blowing experience you expect. The dishes and appetizers we had were definitely tasty but not the kind that will make you look back in a year with fondness.
