Review of Birchwood Cafe in Yellowknife, Canada (4 Stars) Birchwood Cafe is a charming spot and probably the best place in Yellowknife to grab a quality coffee. My wife and I stopped by for breakfast, and overall, it was a lovely experience with just a few minor points keeping it from being a full five stars. I ordered a hot vanilla latte, which was excellent—smooth, perfectly balanced, and just the right amount of sweetness. My wife opted for the iced vanilla latte, and she agreed it was just as fantastic. It’s clear they take their coffee seriously, and it shows in the taste and presentation. We both tried the sausage breakfast sandwich on our first visit and it was fresh-tasting with quality ingredients. The bun was soft, the egg cooked perfectly, and the overall combination was satisfying. My only critique is that the sausage itself, while locally made (a nice touch!), had a bit of a bland flavor that didn’t quite stand out. Still, I appreciated the effort to use locally sourced ingredients, which adds to the cafe’s charm and ethos. The breakfast sandwich with bacon proves to be our favorite offering, just add cheese. One downside to the experience was the lack of WiFi, which might be a drawback for those looking to work or linger while enjoying their coffee. However, the cozy ambiance and friendly staff made up for it, and it’s a great spot to relax and recharge. In summary, Birchwood Cafe is a delightful place to enjoy a well-crafted coffee and a fresh, locally inspired meal. While the sausage wasn’t quite to my taste, everything else was excellent, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Yellowknife. It’s a standout among local cafes and worth a visit.

Easily the most lovely coffee shop we tried in Yellowknife. A very cosy dining environment with local art on the walls + tasty food and drink. The service was excellent (the barista with red hair was super friendly and welcoming to tourists!).

This morning, March Nine 2025. We went to Birchwood for their Sunday brunch. We had the Full English Breakfast The presentation was great and it looked really good. However, our food arrived iced cold not even just like lukewarm but ice cold and no salt or pepper on anything. Not sure if it’s really worth the $17 per Meal that we paid I’d have to think twice before I went back for another try

We are in town for Aurora viewing and found this local gem. Great coffee, great breakfast sandwiches! We had ours on sourdough. And their oatmeal chocolate chip cookie filled with chocolate chips, cranberry and pumpkin seeds are to die for. Especially if you get them fresh out of the oven!

This is a very lovely and cozy cafe that I can’t recommend enough if you’re in Yellowknife. They have a big drink and food menu and lots of alternative milk options. I had the bannock BLT and latte with oat milk, both of which were great. They don’t open on the weekend though so keep that in mind.
