This was our introduction to the highlands. Although the hotel was fine, it definitely had some quirks. It is perhaps the best hotel in Goroka, but that does not say much. ||The room was large. We had a room that overlooked the garden. This was relatively quiet, save for the 5 am rooster chorus! The bathroom has a shower with hot water. Our shower's faucet handles kept falling off. As they were metal knobs, this was a bit precarious with soapy hands. The shower has a metal base, which is also a bit slippery. The room had a ceiling fan, but as the highlands in July are pretty cool, we did not need it. There was no working WIFI, although you will be given a WIFI code.||Breakfast is "ok." But the restaurant is embarrassingly slow. We needed at least 90 minutes to order, receive food, and pay. Often, what is on the menu is not available. The food is "ok", but highly inconsistent.

Very badly maintained hotel in the center of Goroka. Extremely overpriced. Food poor, rooms old and dirty, very noisy as well, with cockroaches all over the place. Since this is the best hotel in town, they say, and you need a bed and shower going to the (wonderfull!) Goroka festival, it's your only option. Rooms on the topfloor are slightly better, executive room is huge if you can afford it...|Owner lives in the hotel and doesn't seem to care.

Located in the middle of Garoka, this is the towns best hotel, but it’s pretty average. The rooms are clean and decently spacious but they are airless. None of the cool highland air gets in and there is no air con. Just one ceiling fan which you need the on full blast to keep cool. They mercifully have a generator. Good lighting and fast WIFI, although staying connected is a problem. Bathroom has hot water but plumbing fixtures are old and there are leaks. The restaurant serves uninspired food. The menu is identical across all the Coral Sea properties so can get tiring. Even the buffets lack oomph. During the Garoka show prices for a room exceed $500 and are worth much less, so book via a local operator. Note too that on the Saturday during Garoka, hotel guests don’t get use of the main restaurant as it’s used for a private function. Instead, you get shunted to an airless room off reception that can’t feels like a sauna despite the one fan they have trying to cool all the guests trying to eat there. There isn’t enough seating, let alone cutlery, crockery or warm food. The food just sits there for over an hour. No eggs at breakfast, really pretty poor. Best to eat elsewhere on Garoka Saturday. The laundry service is excellent and quick. Front desk reception staff are also excellent. The ladies there work hard to keep the place humming and guests happy.

After 22 years, back to the place where we have made beautiful memories as children. While eating on the veranda, I remembered many fun moments we had by the pool.

The staff at the Bird of Paradise Hotel reception are very nice, always smiling, and willing to offer a helping hand. The new hotel manager was on the ground helping his staff get our conference room set up the way we wanted without complaining as I experienced at the Gateway Hotel.||The rooms are a little old and may need some paint touchup, especially the rooms overlooking to NUSFUND office. Also some pest treatments to control cockroaches. ||The a la carte menu is fine but for me is expensive in comparison to the quantity and quality. The restaurant waiters I think need to be more customer-focused just like the team at the reception. ||

I’m very impressed with the rooms, clean and well stocked with amenities. The staff are lovely and the food in the restaurant good. A lovely garden outside and you get woken up by many song birds each morning
