The 5 Best Hostels in Kuala Lumpur (Updated 2025)

"I found Birdnest Collective to be a no-frills, very affordable option in Chinatown: all rooms have AC, there's a cool rooftop café to relax on, and the rooms are basic but comfortable. It's not super social—there's plenty of space to chill—and the showers have hot water with decent pressure. It's one of the most affordable hostels in town, which makes it a great choice for budget-minded travelers." - Matthew Kepnes

Where Can I FLY

Great place with friendly staff, good location and nice rooftop. I stayed there one night waiting for early flight next day, got an early check in without issue, and made extensive use of their free coffee ) It was exactly as shown on pictures. Bed was comfortable, bathroom small but functional.

Absolutely don't understand bad reviews! While planning our trip to Kuala Lumpur, we initially booked a different, much more expensive hotel. However, when we needed to extend our stay and quickly find another hotel nearby, we somehow ended up checking into this one. Since the price was cheap and on the pictures it looked kinda old , we honestly had no expectations. But it was a pleasant surprise! The manager was friendly and helpful. The room was simple but clean, the bed was comfortable, and the linen was fresh and smelled good. Some people in reviews complained about noise, but we didn't experience any. They even provided earplugs, but we never used them. The rooftop was the best part—lots of space and a good view, really cozy place to hang out (something many hotels lack!). We actually regret not booking this hotel from the beginning 😅 Thank you very much; we will definitely stay here again if we return to KL.

The place has an old, cozy vibe that feels unique. The location is excellent - close to train and bus stations, markets, and all services. The staff were very kind and friendly, which made the stay more pleasant. Rooms are simple but clean, and while the amenities are basic, it's a comfortable stay for travelers who value convenience and good atmosphere

DO NOT BOOK! The Hotel is located right next to a busy street. I really don’t know why it is so highly rated since we had the worst stay since coming to Asia. All night noises from cars, motorbikes and metro. We were even more unlucky because right in front of our window were 4 massive Aircon Ventilators from the 7/11 downstairs, which were insanely noisy. We couldn’t even change the temperature of our AC. Only on and off and then it was too cold or too hot. Only good things was the terrace.

Change room type without asking guest permission (paying higher price but getting downgrade room), low pressure water shower, low maintenance wall, dark light room, horrible lobby, mostly no receptionist there. If you're travelling or vacation holidays in Pasar Seni, I suggest to book Travelodge or Pacific Express Hotel. I'm here to express my experience and no offence to any party or individual. Take my advice and good luck to you. Have a nice day. updated: check-in end of 2024 year

You get what you pay for. Good location but right beside the main street so it can be noisy. Nice balcony with free water. Room smelled a little moldy and the aircon was not so cold. The lights in my room were white so it was not so cosy.

Great place to stay! Very cosy guesthouse in the middle of Chinatown. Amazing location close to great food spots and public transport. We planned initially to stay for 2 days, but it ended up being 6 days. Self check-in, but communication with the owner via Whatsapp was very smooth and he responded immediately. Oh and, beautiful rooftop, with free water, tea and coffee.
