This was my first visit to the gardens, and as a newer transplant to Alabama, I couldn’t have asked for a lovelier introduction. I visited on a Saturday morning around 10 a.m., and there was a smaller presence; not overwhelming, just the way I like it. Even without exploring the entire property, we spent nearly two hours wandering the grounds. The rose garden is especially captivating, a fragrant and colorful haven that invites you to linger. The greenhouse, while charming and full of character, could use a bit of extra care for some of its plants though. The Japanese-inspired section, with its graceful bridges, bamboo, and koi pond, was a highlight — tranquil, picturesque, and thoughtfully designed. Every corner of the gardens seems to whisper an invitation to photographers; in fact, we noticed a family having professional portraits taken during our visit. (For those planning similar sessions, it’s worth reviewing the venue’s photography guidelines in advance- see photo) Before leaving, we stopped by the gift shop, which was an absolute delight, filled to the brim with exquisite, one-of-a-kind treasures. I could have easily spent another hour browsing its elegant displays. What a hidden gem, tucked away in the quiet residential streets of beautiful Mountain Brook. A visit here feels like a step into serenity itself.

Great place for a two hour visit before a flight. Fairly easy to get to and lots of free parking. This is a pretty large park with a lot of different areas with various themes or regions of plant species. My favorites were the Japanese Garden and the indoor tropical gardens. But there are paths everywhere, water features, and a lake with Koi and turtles! Nice gift shop that is more like a garden center. Plenty of bathrooms. And this whole place is free! Incredible!

Google
Beautiful gardens! We stopped here on the way back to the airport after a quick visit to UA in Tuscaloosa. So glad we came! First, it’s free (which is impressive for the quality of the gardens). Second, the Japanese gardens were amazing. We go to gardens like this often, whenever we visit a city. These were some of the best.

Google
Birmingham Botanical Gardens is an amazing place that features more natural beauty than I could hope to describe in a single review. Rose gardens, Japanese gardens, vegetable gardens, ponds, and so much more are here, and everything has obviously been cared for by folks who take real pride in their job. The Conservatory/Greenhouse is closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly. If you're looking to clear your head and enjoy the abundant beauty here, I'd recommend showing up early on a weekday. There are plenty of walking trails to explore. The on-site gift shop has something for everyone at any budget. They also offer lots of plants and garden decorations. There is a map available at the entrance as well as a QR code to a map to help you navigate the grounds. Bathrooms are available and are fully functional. I'm already looking forward to the next time!

Google
So this place was very beautiful in a lot of areas. I was disappointed the zoo was closed on a Monday? Not sure if they’re affiliated but I did see a sign. The store I really liked with the plants, pumpkins etc. I didn’t really care for the customer service from the women in the store working in there. I do believe this gardens could be so much better but hey there’s no fee to get in.

Google
I enjoyed my visit to the gardens. The majority of the paths were shaded and though it is a hot summer, it was a pleasant morning walking among the trees. The bamboo forest was a nice touch and I enjoyed all the bodies of water. It is such a wonderful resource to the Birmingham community for this to be free to the public. I highly recommend visiting, especially if you live locally.

Google
This was one of our favorite highlights from our trip to Alabama. This place is absolutely stunning and amazing. And the best part is it is completely FREE!! Hats off to the city of Birmingham for providing this attraction for the cost of a donation. The grounds were well taken care of and easy to walk. We were a little lost at first then we found our way around. I'd walk this place at least once a week if I lived near it.

Google
The gardens are the perfect place for a fall orchid show! The Alabama Orchid Society recently hosted their annual show there and it was great as always. Lots of beautiful orchids displayed in creative exhibits for the visitors to enjoy. Orchid sales were brisk as buyers were faced with the difficult decision as to which ones to purchase. Such a great dilemma!! Congratulations to the club and the gardens for a fabulous weekend of beauty.

Yelp
Something that might be helpful to know before going here is that there are many trails within the gardens so many of the trains may not be that accessible to the elderly or people who need assistance to walk. I felt that some of the gardens were a little underwhelming, but the garden that really stood out was the Japanese Gardens. The walkway that entered the bamboo trees were SO cool to walk through. The structure of some of the architecture and bridges were beautiful. I loved the overall feel of that garden. For the rest of the garden, I did wish there were some more signs to help guide us; I was actually surprised that there weren't as many signs put up considering how many trails and off main trails were carved out. Again, there were so many trails in that garden which was super cool and fun, but keep in mind that some of them can be quite hilly and hard to walk on due to rocks and unpaved trails that don't have any signs (which I didn't mind, but was just surprised). But this botanical garden does feel a lot more nature-y compared to others I've been do which was pretty cool. The garden store right by the front of the entrance was super cute though!

Yelp
What's not to love about this beautiful example of nature? There's walking trails, beautiful flowers and trees, pure springs and streams, little animals, plant sales, and so much more offered right here! This is a wonderful venue for weddings and receptions, parties, meetings anything you can think of the Botanical Garden can host. I have attended many events here, from a holiday soirée, weddings, business meetings, social events, cooking demos and so much more. But my favorite thing to do is take a stroll through the gardens on a nice Spring day! Nothing beats it! I served as a Junior Board member many years ago and it was an honor to represent such a jewel of a venue that our city has. Did I mention that admission is free? You have to visit here at least once. When you do, I'm almost certain you will be back!

Yelp
I can't believe I've lived in Birmingham this long and hadn't visited the Botanical Gardens as an adult. I recently took my family, and we had a great time walking around and exploring. Our visit was cut short by a little rain, but we'll definitely be back. Now that we're parents, I think we'll be coming here a lot more often.
google avatar

Kaneka R.

Yelp
You can definitely exceed your step goal here. There's free parking and free entrance. The garden has very wide walking trails. I love botanical gardens, however this one didn't have too much in bloom. I would like to see what it looks like during spring, summer, or Fall. The Japanese garden needs some love. I know it's winter but GA and AL have similar climates and the garden in Atlanta is very beautiful all year. This one just seemed like it needed some TLC.

Yelp
The Birmingham Botanical Gardens were the highlight of my trip to Alabama. The location is quite beautiful and there is so much to see. They have rose gardens, vegetable gardens, wildflowers, a conservatory, and a ton of woodlands plus a Japanese Friendship Garden with a koi pond and bamboo walkway. We spent about 2 hours just walking around and taking in the beauty of the place. Tons of areas for a lot of great pictures. When we went, we saw a ton of students taking prom pictures and I know those must have come out great! Although there were many people, the place is large so it did not feel crowded to us. They have easy to follow maps and trails and their koi pond also featured swimming turtles. A really beautiful place for sure and it was free entrance when we went. They also have a pretty large gift shop with a ton of goodies.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't sleep on the Botanical Gardens! It's huge! There are so many plants here. A lot of greenhouses too! With the changing seasons, there's always something new to discover here!
google avatar

Marie L.

Yelp
Went with my family to take a promenade amoung the many beautiful gardens before leaving Birmingham. And the trip wouldn't have been the same had we not visited this little gem. The weather was cloudy and overcast but all the better for shade.
google avatar

Alexia J.

Yelp
Bham Botanical Gardens is the perfect place to walk around and admire nature. Please bring you some water so you don't pass out while exploring this free Bham gem. There are several trails/exhibits to enjoy. Don't skip the library or cafe. I love that most trails are disability friendly and you can even rent wheelchairs at the front desk if needed. Certified service animal friendly, but please leave your other pets at home. My pictures won't attach currently so I'll try again later. You're better off seeing this beauty in person though!
google avatar

Kimberly A.

Yelp
Hands down - one of the best botanical gardens in the country. I am still in awe of the variety of plant life as well as animal life present on site. We aimlessly wandered around the grounds and just enjoyed the natural beauty of the surroundings. They are getting a new garden completed so beware some parts have construction vehicles working away. Make sure to pack DEET BUG SPRAY. We were eaten alive by the mosquitoes.

Yelp
If you plant enough seeds of happiness, it will spread like wildfire and become contagious. It's why I adore botanical gardens. The seeds of happiness is everywhere in the gardens. Came here to close out my trip to Birmingham and enjoyed the transition from fall. Since it was mid September it was toasty so make sure you hydrate. Cannot believe they do not charge for admission so come often, stay long and enjoy a break from the fast pace of life. It is well maintained and so many areas to wander and spend time. I loved the greenhouses and veggie garden. But my favorite were the paths that led to the woods and secluded areas that transport you out of the city noise. It's literally smack dab in the middle of the downtown vibrant area of Mountain Brook. Was looking forward to lunch at the cafe but bummed it was closed and there was no notice or information that advise you. The staff at the gift shop are so friendly and take such care to wrap your purchased items. The gift shop is wonderful, stocked with adorable gift items, jewelry, and cute souvenirs. I swear you can create your own beautiful garden purchasing the plants available here. Gardens are always a good idea. Indulge a little or a lot. But you'll leave smiling from ear to ear for hours, even days after the visit.

Yelp
BBG has a lot to offer, and my personal favorites are cherry blossoms in the Japanese Garden (in full display during early spring). The rose gardens are also quite beautiful from early April to late May. The pictures being shared here were taken in spring 2025.
google avatar

Kelli H.

Yelp
Came here on a hot September afternoon (in the '90s) and just wanted to say: bring yo water/hydration with you! Unbelievable this is free, and the gardens are a lot bigger than expected. Beautiful flora and fauna, and had a variety of greenery - from the tropical paradise in the greenhouse to the veggie garden (even had cotton growing!) to the bamboo shoots with the turtles and koi fish! Got away with wearing slippers. The gift shop at the front is cute, and all the plants in the front for sale would be dangerous if I lived here.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
This land is quite dynamic; while the entrance leads to a series of highly manicured plots and a greenhouse, the surrounding terrain varies considerably in elevation and is much more naturalistically curated. Areas showcasing ferns and wildflowers attract the viewer like a foraging bee, while the occasional bit of sculpture art adds intrigue. The place was well-attended, though parking seemed able to keep up with the wedding and the regular crowd. Even though it seemed the spring flowers had not really taken off yet, there were plenty of splendid sights. The fact that entrance is free and uninhibited is a social good, and the depth and variety of exhibitions admitted of more exploration than I had time for in the slightly less than an hour that I spent wandering around.
google avatar

Vicki B.

Yelp
It was beautiful. I really enjoyed everything there. I'd like to go back in the spring when everything is in full bloom.

Madelyn W.

Yelp
Well maintained, impressively diverse exhibits, small but beautiful greenhouse. Beautiful even when out of season. Could spend hours here.

Yelp
The best thing about Birmingham Botanical Gardens is that it's free, making it accessible to everyone. But it's nice enough to visit even if they were charging. There are different themed gardens, such as a Japanese garden, rose garden, and some other flower types. In addition to the plants, there are statues and other art to look at, swinging benches, and ponds with fish. The gift shop is large and has some nice finds for holiday and other gifts or a souvenir. I didn't have a chance to chevk out any of their programming, such as tai chi classes or performances, but it looks like they have a nice schedule that is worth checking out.
google avatar

Gabe P.

Yelp
I attended the Safe Summer Series here. Everything was really nice until it wasn't. Unfortunately, the rain ended the event prematurely. I really was looking forward to hearing some Carl Thomas!! Nevertheless, I enjoyed being at the Bham Botanical Gardens on a Sunday afternoon amongst a great crowd. It was a vibe! Sadly , I didn't take any photos. Had way too much going on and once the rain started ... it was a wrap. Ugh- I know! I already plan to visit again soon because I just don't come here enough. Bham is home to some really amazing & beautiful landmarks. This one is definitely worth checking out ; whether you're a local or a tourist.
google avatar

Aishah S.

Yelp
Great place to host a women's retreat, the room was very nice with excellent views of the garden.
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful place to come to be with nature. So much to see! I was only there two hours and only visited half the garden. I definitely will be visiting again. I cannot believe this place is free! I'm so grateful that Birmingham has such a peaceful and beautiful place to visit that is free. There is a donation box available at the gate, so don't forget to leave a donation.
google avatar

Linda D.

Yelp
How amazingly gorgeous! Could have spent days and days exploring. Used the Nikon and the iPhone so many spots to stop and enjoy the gardens and just breathe. Parking and admission is free! This was well worth the heat of July .
google avatar

Gwen W.

Yelp
This is a nice botanical garden. There's several walking paths and an enclosed botanical garden house in the middle. We didn't go to tho, because we didn't have the time. We did walk around on the main path which connects with their Japanese gardens. I've always loved Japanese gardens for their calm, tranquil aura, and this was no different. I do wish the tall bamboo-lined path were longer, as it was beautiful walking along and seeing nothing but tall shoots and blue sky when I looked up. Also, the rose garden! Not very huge, I bet it's fantastic during the early spring months and full of wonderful floral smells! A stop on our travel adventures, this was a nice step into nature for an hour.
google avatar

Michelle D.

Yelp
Living in Atlanta, I've been to a handful of botanical gardens and this one was amazing...much less free. There are multiple sections including a gorgeous Japanese Garden that brings Mr. Miyagi to mind as you cross the bridges and go under the arches. There is plenty of hills and walking trails, greenhouses, a rose garden, all the amazing components of bliss in the middle of a city. You wind around into hidden areas covered by trees with secret benches that make you forget where you are. Even in February, this was gorgeous, so I can't wait to return when everything is in full bloom.
google avatar

Shameka C.

Yelp
I was really close to the area and try to make my trips worth the travel, so I stopped by the Botanical Gardens. I figured it would have heavy foot traffic as it was such a beautiful day. There were groups and those taking family photos but I was able to freely take a walk and be one with nature. I also enjoyed the spaces where you could sit and enjoy the beauty. This will not be my last time strolling around the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

Yelp
In 2020, we have experienced a limiting of some of our options with regard to things to do when we have free time to get out and about. It's been a great year for visiting parks, hiking trails, and checking out other outdoor activities. The Birmingham botanical gardens has been, for me a great place to take some time and get out of the house. Aside from the robust variety of plant life to explore, there are a number of small walking paths/trails that in spite of being in a relatively small space can give you the feel of being out in the woods, without actually having to go out into the woods. The whole place can be thoroughly experienced in under 2 hours, and there are benches and swings scattered throughout that are great for stopping and taking time to enjoy a bit of nature. Admission is free, parking is great, and there are a number of restaurants and shops nearby in the area in case you want to grab a bite and enjoy your lunch outside in a nice environment. Overall this is a great spot in the city and we should be glad to have it. If you haven't been, get down there.
google avatar

Yelp
How have I waited this many years before visiting this beautiful gem in the middle of a big city? We went this weekend and they were having a huge plant sale! The whole place was super crowded, but after circling the lot twice, we lucked up in a parking spot. Parking is free and entry is free! What a gift to the people of Birmingham and its visitors! Though there appeared to be a ton of folks here, we never felt crowded. The park is so spread out with something to see in every single corner. We loved the conservatory with its water feature and tropical plants, the beautiful fountains, the winding paths to get to each area and the thoughtfully placed swings and benches along the way to rest your tootsies. Far and away my favorite garden was the Japanese Garden. The Japanese Garden has a Tori Gate at the entrance to welcome you and it sets the tone perfectly for the wonders you are about to see. Beautiful photo ops await with the koi pond, the meandering bridge, the turtles sunning themselves on the rocks and the tea garden. Do not miss this. We didn't see everything we wanted, so I know I'll be back when I'm in town again. So peaceful and lovely.
google avatar

Gigi P.

Yelp
If you are looking for what to plant in your Birmingham garden this is the place. Lots of ideas about what grows here! The Botanical gardens is a great place for a stroll, to bring visitors, or simply enjoy some quiet time. My favorite spots are the bamboo forest and the Irish garden. The vegetable garden is fun too!
google avatar

Russell G.

Yelp
The botanical gardens is free to the public. It is a great walking trail. There is much more to it than the garden, there is a shop there. A nice room for events. There is also attached, the Japanese garden
google avatar

Maddy D.

Yelp
A fun, free activity for a date or family time. Great way to spend some time in nature. The gardens are very quiet and enjoyable - also a great place to take pictures for families, graduation, etc. We went on a Sunday and it wasn't busy at all.
google avatar

Jessica N.

Yelp
Everything was kinda dead in January but you can tell by the layout that it'll be really pretty when everything blooms. It's also free with decent parking. Can't beat free. Otherwise, a good cardio workout with lots of uphills and downhills. At 67 acres, it'll take you at least 2 hours to walk through. And it's in walking distance to the zoo.
google avatar

Yelp
Take some time to smell the roses! What an extraordinary, solace scene! This garden tops the charts for all botanical gardens. I have been to a few in New York and Florida, but nothing is as grand as this one. I came here today (July 4th) and it was surprisingly not too busy. There were people, but everyone stayed in the groups that they came with. It wasn't overly crowded which I very much enjoyed. The gardens are huge and there are walking paths, hiking paths and areas to sit and relax on bench swings. The part that drew me in the most was the Japanese Gardens. As some of you may know, but to those of you who may be new to my page, in 2019 I embarked on a journey across the oceans and visited the Land of the Rising Sun. It was an incredible adventure. Walking into the Japanese garden at the Birmingham Botanical gardens it felt as though I was transported back to the Arashiyama Bamboo Forests. That is something that really made positive impact on me. Another part of the Japanese garden that will stick with me, is there is an area right near the Japanese tea house. There is a small sign with a QR code for you to be able to scan. This code brings you to a link with an audio and the audio shares about an old Japanese phrase "Yohaku no bi" which translates to 'The Beauty of Empty Space' I sat there on a rock and was looking at the zen garden. I had to listen to the audio a few times to completely understand the meaning, but it really did make a positive impact on me. Being able to sit there in the silence and remember all that I had learned while in my time abroad without leaving this city. It was simply immaculate. If you are looking for something fun, free and exciting. I highly recommend checking out this botanical gardens. It is very nice and peaceful to just spend the day in the garden. You can walk around, smell the roses and just enjoy being in nature. There is a bit of walking/hiking involved, but it is 100% worth it at the end of the day. Unfortunately since I came on a holiday, I was not able to take a walk around in their gift shop. But I will definitely be back! They had some of their inventory outside and the wind chimes were absolutely beautiful. I might need to invest in one sometime soon. Something neat I did notice while leaving the gardens was that there were several vendors outside the gardens offering themed beverages, food and snacks. This adds a little extra spice to the mix. It shows that they really pay attention to detail. There was a hot dog vendor for the fourth of July, its a holiday classic. As well as a small vendor from Steel City Popcicles. I have been wanting to try these, but will get to them one of these days. Popcicles are great to have especially since it was a hot day today.

Yelp
BBG was beautiful! Having recently relocated from Brooklyn we are excited to explore a new city and feel blessed to have found such a beautiful retreat! BBG is free and open to the public. My toddlers loved roaming around the different sections and we can't wait to go back and explore again and again! Stop and smell the roses, you'll be glad you did!

Yelp
I can't believe that I have lived in Birmingham my entire life and have never visited the gardens. It is such a beautiful and relaxing place. I've spent the last 2 days walking the various walkways and trails taking in the beauty of the budding flowers and blooming trees. It is early in the spring season so there are several plants that were not in bloom yet, but that does not change how breathtaking the scenery was. I can't wait to see all of the flowers in full bloom. The gardens were overflowing with teenagers taking their prom pictures. It was such a refreshing sight to see them laughing and enjoying such a special moment. There were also family photos being taken. There was signage that welcomed photographers, but asked them to leave props, furniture, and pets at home. At every turn there was a great photo op. Entrance into the gardens is free, but they welcome donations.

Yelp
Beautiful place and a treasure to Birmingham. Love going with my family and significant other
google avatar

Ranita S.

Yelp
This is a lovely place. The highlight is the Japanese garden with lovely bridges, small waterfalls, bonsai plants and koi fish in the pond. In the spring the cherry blossoms bloom. The whole garden is free of admission so that makes it even lovelier. Best time to come is early fall and spring mid day during the week. During weekends it can be crowded. They also have events here so check their website. It is family friendly and stroller and wheelchair accessible. There are many nice places to sit and take breaks or just to sit and enjoy the scenery. It takes 20-45 mins to walk through the whole garden. Lovely spot for friends, dates, couples and families. You will always find photographers here taking shoots of prom goers, engaged couples, wedding parties and of families. In addition, this place is also a nice place to come alone and clear your head and kill some time if on a conference or work trip or if you live in Bham and just need a break from housemates and your family. You can usually find parking but if you can't, you can always park at the Grand Bohemian or apartment complex and shopping center across the street. Be mindful to not park there for more than an hour or two because residents or businesses may have your car towed! Make sure you wear appropriate shoes for walking. There are a few places you may need to climb or cross so be mindful of that. There are a few public restrooms inside along with a garden store.
google avatar

Kelsey C.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in bham to visit! It is beautiful year round. My favorite part is the Japanese Garden but you really can't go wrong visiting any of it. I highly suggest taking at least 2 hours on your first visit so you can see everything. The restrooms are always really clean and I love that there are benches all over so you can enjoy the beautiful views.
google avatar

Paul C.

Yelp
The Birmingham Botanical Gardens is one of my favorite places in Birmingham. The property is beautiful, and always well maintained. The park is masterfully designed to take advantage of the rolling landscape. There are many different gardens, and something for everyone. Two of my favorites are the rose garden and the Southern Living vegetable garden. We visited on Saturday afternoon for the annual Cherry Blossom festival. The Cherry Blossom were in bloom, and the event was pretty low key. It consisted of several exhibits scattered throughout the Japanese garden. This Japanese gardens are cool. There is a traditional tori gate at the entrance, and several different paths inside. The features that I especially enjoy are the large koi pond, bridges, and the bonsai house
google avatar

Yelp
It's a peaceful and beautiful place to be I suggest go on your first date there and definitely some good walking shoes There are a ton of things to do in the area

Yelp
Great gardens. Free and the place is huge. Pack a lunch and have a picnic!. They do not allow pets, only Service animals.

Yelp
Nice free place to spend a relaxing day and look at beautiful flowers and trees.. came a little early in the year but it was still nice to relax and get a good walk in

Yelp
Birmingham is so lucky to have such a beautiful botanical gardens. Especially gardens that do not charge admission. I have been visiting the gardens since I was a little girl. I remember going with my great grandmother and watching the tea house ceremonies that were held in the Japanese gardens. Later, during the late 80s, I held my rehearsal dinner at the gardens and will never forget that spectacular night. The Birmingham Botanical Gardens is such a serene, peaceful place. I enjoy sitting in the swings and taking in all that nature has to offer If you have never been, you really need to visit. There are many different types of gardens for all sorts of interests. And don't forget this is all free to the public. My favorites are the rhododendron gardens, the rose garden, the fern glade garden, the vegetable garden, the Southern Living garden and of course the Japanese garden with the bamboo forest.
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
Beautiful space!! The day we went happened to be a raining/drizzly day so we didn't do the entire gardens, but what we did see was beautiful and peaceful. There is a nice gift shop attached that has a great small cafe as well. Definitely plan on spending a good amount of time exploring the gardens.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
Beautiful flowers, shrubs and trees along with a wonderfully organized walking path.... please wear your most comfortable walking shoes because you will want to see every inch of this amazing garden....

Alexa H.

Yelp
Car break ins common. The grounds are beautiful but we reported someone trying to break into cars and they said it happens often and to try to park as close to the front as possible. Unfortunate this happens in such a pretty place, or at all really. Edit to add: the person broke into at least two cars while there. Gave a statement to police and security guard who seemed to be worn out from the golf cart ride over to the cars.

Yelp
We drive through Birmingham around 3-4 times each year to go to Memphis and over the past few years I have always been wanting to stop here and finally left early enough that we were able to come here. The Birmingham Botanical Gardens is absolutely beautiful. Hands down my favourite spot is the Japanese Gardens, it is breathtaking and the Koi "nishikigoi" fish are beautiful, my goodness they are HUGE.... This fish are also called Amur carp and are native to Asian countries. Throughout the gardens is amazing architecture and long paths to walk around. If I lived in the area, this would definitely be my spot to eat lunch or just go for a run. If you are in the area, definetely stop over here, you will be impressed. Best of all, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens is free of charge to visit and open to donations, if you feel generous enough. [Review #521] (106th and Last Review For Year of 2017!) Happy New Year!!!

In our younger years, Birmingham was just another city standing between us and the beach. Now with kids in tow and traveling slower, we are able to discover little gems along the way that we've missed. This botanical is just that, a gem! Instead of the normal fast food meal at the gas station or the rest area, we took a detour, grabbed a curbside lunch from a local restaurant and headed to this oasis for a nice relaxing picnic. We brought with us a portable picnic that we are able to set in any turf area. We were secluded from other groups and surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants as we enjoyed a meal with the kids. There are also plenty of benches if you don't have a picnic blanket or table. The botanical is not overly large but big enough to keep you and the little ones busy for an or two. There are different sections with different landscaping styles (the rose garden, the Japanese garden, etc). Everything is beautifully laid out and diverse enough to keep it interesting. The best part, it's free! I can't recommend it enough. I'm already looking forward to making more detours here for our future trips to the beach!

Yelp
This is a great place. One of the last free botanical gardens. Also one of the best I've seen. The wide diversity of plants is amazing. The greenhouse is closed on Monday. The rose garden has a large number of different varieties. The fern garden has an amazing number of ferns. There's the Bog, Herb Camelia, azalia and of course the Japanese gardens. The Japanese garden is a neat place for a stroll. They have an extensive array of walking trails through biff rent bioms. The rose gsrden is often used for weddings. They also rent out rooms for parties, meetings, and wedding rehearsals / receptions.

Yelp
It is hard to believe such a diverse, beautiful and educational place is free to the public. It is huge and well maintained with a diversity of plant species that is fascinating. Wear comfortable shoes and weather appreciate clothing for your adventure. We rushed through and it took over two hours to see only 2/3rds of the place (and not fully explore any one section). We plan to return when we have a full day to devote to the gardens because that's what it deserves. While there, we noticed several people/couples taking photos along with a wedding. It is a wonderful resource for all of Alabama.

Yelp
If you thought the gardens were beautiful in the spring with all the flowers in bloom, you have to come back in the fall. The fall foliage is full of beautiful colors and perfect for fall-themed family photo shoots. I was here this past week for a friend's engagement and the pictures turned out beautiful. The weather was perfect for being outside and there was even a wedding party! A beautiful venue for all seasons
