One of the coolest art museums out there. I love that it’s free to get more people through the door but also accepts donations. The Asian hall is my favorite to walk through but surely everyone can find something to be inspired by in this house of many treasures. I try to visit every time I’m in Birmingham and highly recommend you do the same!

Google
The Birmingham Museum of Art is a wonderful part of Birmingham that holds a collection of international arts and culture. The building and location is conveniently place by tons of restaurants and parking. We attended The Candle Light concert while visiting tonight. The venue is the perfect size and intimate setting. No matter where you were seated, the view of the stage was excellent and easily viewed. The staff was friendly and helpful, most of all, the facility is clean and well maintained.

Google
We enjoyed our first visit here. Because it’s free 💙, we only toured the first floor, saving the rest for another visit Compared to my hometown of Montgomery, this museum had more variety. However, the security guards walk through with distractingly loud walkie talkies. Also I was standing by accident too close to this really boring green sofa. I didn’t notice it was beeping at me until a security guard rudely informed me I was standing too close. Move the sofa out of the way. I was two feet away and in no way going to endanger the sofa. Train your staff to kindly let guests know they are too close We had read there is free parking but we didn’t know where it was so we ended up paying $3 in a garage just past the theater next to the museum. No big deal…just note that you may want to figure out where the free parking is

Google
Was a lot of fun, I can see I'd have two different experiences with and without my children, but fun both ways. Highly recommend visiting and keeping up with events here, and on the weekday, we only paid a few dollars for parking in the public parking deck right past the museum.

Google
Who knew Birmingham offers one of the best Museums in the country. I was amazed and pleased at the collections at this wonderful Museums.. Entry to the Museum is free and so is parking! Prepare to be bedazzled

Google
Great museum with tons to do and places to explore. Perfect for a date or a small get together, the gift shop was surprisingly affordable as well. 10/10

Google
Very nice place. If I worked downtown I would visit often. Great place to walk around and see great art. Lots of ceramics as well. Spent several hours just trying to see most everything.

Google
4.7 stars I will say that I was pleasantly surprised at the Birmingham Museum of Art. Decent sized Museum with a good collection of European, Asian, and African art and artifacts, to name a few, along with a wonderful exhibit of Black sculpture, John Rhoden. This made my day seeing his works and reading about his history. Many pieces of art highlight a more diverse background than I am accustomed to seeing, which usually are more European in nature, but I praise the efforts!! All this for free! (Donations accepted)

Yelp
Heard of those candlelight concerts but haven't been to one? GO! ‍ Visit Fever's website and find a location near you because Bhm's MOA auditorium was absolutely transformed the last two concerts we have been able to experience. Beautiful venue, helpful staff, and respectful concertgoers who actually want to listen to the music and instruments - everyone doesn't want separate sing-a-longs or dancers behind them or in front of them all of the time, right? Concertgoers who appreciate the bouts of silence, waiting for more and just being present - that's when you know it's a moving performance.

Yelp
I love the activities that the museum hosts. From themed after-work events, to Arts on the Rocks, to the talent artist exhibits, there's something for everyone here. And it's free! Some events (Arts on the Rock) you have to pay for, but most others are free. It's a great date night spot or girls night out place to visit. Check them out!

Yelp
I absolutely love the Bham museum of art! My mom and I came here recently for a reception and wall to wall art speak. It was amazing!!! I highly recommend getting on their mailing list to learn about upcoming events; most are free of charge. You just have to RSVP! I plan to get a membership soon because there are member perks.

Yelp
Pretty small museum for the city. It's about 2 floors and includes a sculpture garden. I would say it's just an average/standard museum in comparison to other cities. We were done in about an hour. I was not particularly impressed by the collection, however they had a small exhibit called "Nappy" that focused on the hair of African American women and that was pretty incredible. I was almost disappointed that they didn't have more pieces as this was the best part of the museum. I would come back because it's free and a good place to visit, but don't expect anything too large. They also had a paid exhibit on Disney movie costumes for a price, but we did not go in there. The museum shop was also small and half was all Disney related stuff due to the exhibit so that was a bit of a bummer.

Yelp
Nice museum with free entry. Street parking is available. Definitely worth a visit if in the area. Staff seem pretty friendly. A couple of cool art pieces in the exhibits. I would definitely recommend visiting this museum.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning medieval and European art. So much information to be read. I could've stayed in the second floor for hours just memorized with the beautiful artwork.

Yelp
Went here with my daughter Saturday and really enjoyed it. From Asian to African styles in art and culture the visit was layered with different styles of art from ages and nationalities . Basically there was a lot to take in but we did as much as we could. Did I say it's free. I recommend this for a visit.

Yelp
Friendly staff, beautiful art, secure parking, free! Always a great time and an excellent place to spend an afternoon.

Yelp
The museum has Native American art, jewelry and earthenware. They have African art of all kinds of mediums. We went to see Disney Hero's and Villains custom designs. This showing will be represented until August 2024, before it moves out. The museum has a dining area and children's area. Lots Of interactive activities for children. They could make swords, wands and crowns. Beautiful place inside and out for an old city!! The staff members were helpful and very friendly. True southern hospitality and Charm.

Yelp
We just attended the Disney Villians and Heroes preview party. It was very well done! The front lobby was Cinderella themed, and Michelle's Chocolate Lab did a great job with the Disney themed desserts, especially the spoon full of sugar. The back food area was pirate themed. I loved the pirate ship with a real steering! Great for kids' imaginations! Also, their was a dress up area for princesses. The costumes were great. Some favorites were Cinderella's glass slipper, Jasmine from Aladdin's costume, Emma Watson's Belle dress, and Glenn Close's Cruella De Vil costume.

Yelp
THERE PAINT NOBODY LIKE YOU! When I first heard that the Birmingham Museum of Art was bringing in an exhibit to show off some of the original designs and outfits from the live action Disney movies, I knew this would be an exhibit I just could not miss. Now, this exhibit is $30 per person, but I'm not entirely sure it is worth $30. Seems a little steep especially since to walk around the art museum it doesn't cost anything. But to each their own. This art museum is different than others I've been to in other states for sure. Not only because it's free admission and they believe everyone should be able to come and experience art no matter their economical status. But I noticed that the colors of the walls change in the various rooms. This changes the mood in each room/exhibit. Very well thought out! I never thought I would be writing a review on how much I liked an art museum but this one was very well put together. Though I was disappointed that the Disney exhibit wasn't really worth it in my personal opinion. It was still a nice thing to do and another spot to check off my list. New experiences was on my forte this year and man am I seeing a different side of life. Somethings I've really enjoyed and others, well. The museum shop was filled with adorable gifts for the whole family. Some definitely geared towards the younger groups and others geared towards older. A great mix overall! I'm not sure I'll be running back to the museum again and again. However, I was happy to have come and finally checking out this exhibit. It is going to stay put in the museum until August, so even if you don't have your tickets just yet, there is still time! The addition of Juniper at the museum I thought was a great idea at first, but they have very specific hours of operation. So I definitely recommend eating beforehand, especially if you are planning on going over the weekend. Overall, cool museum. Lots to discover! I'll let you decide for yourself whether the Disney exhibit is worth checking out or not. They do have some interactive parts for your enjoyment (geared towards younger kids).

Yelp
I never write reviews and always try to give customer service people the benefit of the doubt because I'm young and know what it's like to be in customer service. I've lived in Birmingham for 10+ years, so of course I've been to the art museum plenty of times! Their instillations are beautiful and I love visiting every few months to see new installations. The employees are usually the nicest and you can tell they love their jobs!! Which is part of the experience!!!! Today was one of those days, me and my boyfriend wanted to visit. Upon arrival, I grabbed my almost empty Chick-fil-A cup and wanted to finish it and find a trash can to throw it away inside. Didn't even think twice about it because I've never had an issue with throwing away trash in the building. We walk in and my boyfriend attempts to greet the receptionist as I'm sipping on the drink trying to finish it, looking around for a trash can. Before he even said hello, he said "Have you been here before?" My boyfriend replied "Yes, we're here for the--" and was INTERRUPTED mid sentence and the man proceeded to say "Well if you've been here before, you should know drinks aren't allowed in the building" I turn to look and talk to the receptionist and tell him I'm throwing it away, and he wouldn't let either of us get a word in before saying "it's a part of the museums rules blah blah blah" in the midst of his rant, continuously added "You should know if you've been here before". Didn't say hello, didn't allow us to speak, just very rudely told my boyfriend I couldn't have a drink. He wouldn't even look me in the eyes when I tried to tell him I was throwing it away!! I felt like I had committed a crime the way he just laid down the rules before he even said hello and couldn't even tell ME and look MEEEEE in the eyes that I couldn't have the drink! It was so awkward and weird and I've NEVER been treated like that by any of the museum employees. Again, I've been going for YEARS!!!! I was so perturbed by his attitude we ended up just leaving entirely. I didn't get a chance to see his name, but he was bigger build and bald. Birmingham, we can do better. ESPECIALLY our receptionist whose whole jobs are to make the visitor's visit a better experience. In the past, all the receptionist have been phenomenal and greet, explain where all of the instillations are, and explain the museum rules with a great attitude. He might have thought since we were younger appearing we didn't deserve the respect we absolutely deserve. DO BETTER BHAM!!!!!!!

Yelp
I've often found that southern hospitality is a real thing, but I was surprised by how unwelcoming my experience was here. Much of the space was devoted to preparations for some sort of event, with a mediocre band loudly blaring practice sounds that echoed throughout the halls despite the gallery being open to the public for another hour and a half. No explanation for this was given upon my entrance, nor any clear direction of where to go, nor any real greeting at all. I also tried to stop for a quick device charge to find their outlets not working, and a water bottle fill to find their fountain not working, though thankfully they had other working versions of these things. Hopefully, this is not representative of a typical day here. The collections themselves, however, were impressive, with a variety of beautiful rooms and an outdoor courtyard showcasing surprisingly global art. Among the most notable pieces for me were a series of Indonesian daggers and samurai armor, but the Native American pieces were excellent as well. While I was impressed with the collection, I was a bit surprised there wasn't more local art, but maybe I just missed it or maybe it's one of the rooms they were working on installing. Anyway, for a free art museum, there was certainly a wealth of content to be worth visiting.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful! There is so much art here. I really enjoyed seeing and reading about all the art. They change the exhibits up every few months or so too, so you will likely always have something new to look forward to when coming here.

Yelp
Surprisingly diverse and well curated international art. Very high quality collections. Free entry and free parking. Close to many historical sites.

Yelp
Birmingham, Alabama's second largest city still has a good museum, the Birmingham Museum of Art. the pavilions are not too big and not too small, with Renaissance, England, Modern, and 15th-18th Century paintings, statues, and artwork on the first level, and exhibits from Asia (China, Korea, Japan, and South Asia mainly) and the Indian period on the second level. The innermost part of the first floor is the most wonderful! There were many, many statues that were especially nice! There were also paintings, some of my favorite Impressionists! Caught a Monet! The second floor is basically all bought from China, the blue and white porcelain... It's all very nice... and there are weird Indian artifacts like grass baskets, all legally obtained... There's also a room dedicated to all kinds of kitchenware from a rich house, super luxurious, super nice! There were also tiles that African-Americans would make. Since the road-trip stopped by Birmingham, it's still appropriate to check it out! Anyway, the museum is free and takes about an hour to wander through. There are a lot of beautiful and delicate paintings, like this one of Central Park! I quite like this museum!

Yelp
I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place by now. I have been here on several occasions for some really cool events. Art on the Rocks takes place during the summer months and I always have a good time coming out to see exhibits, having a drink, and enjoying some good music. Last night, it was an Art after 5 event that was focused on up-cycled fashion. The theme was the 90s so I tried to channel my childhood and rock my version of a 90s outfit. There was a fashion show and a lot of cool activities going on. You should follow their social media pages to dust up to date with what they do.

Yelp
The museum of art has done a great job at welcoming in the Bham community over the last few years. From Art on The Rocks to Harry Potter Nights and Community Wellness Days, they have a whole lot to offer in addition to their thriving art collections! My sisters and I took my mom, who had never been, for her birthday this year and she loved it. Seeing the diversity of artists and wide variety of displays put her in awe as we walked around the 3 floors. I love that the museum also has a theater for movies and educational events like lectures/discussions with artists. Having Tank And The Bangas at Art On The Rocks has been my favorite experience but I am definitely looking forward to whatever they have next! It's a great free asset to our community.

Yelp
A rainy and ugly day drove us to find an indoor place to visit with our granddaughters. certainly a nice way to spend the afternoon. We were certainly was disappointed that the Adventure attraction within the Art Museum was closed due to COVID, but enjoyed the visit anyway. Especially enjoyed a walk around the courtyard during a break in the rain. would absolutely come back! the gift shop had a lot of unique things and the employees were really friendly and helpful!

Yelp
I love coming here on a rainy day and you can't go wrong with basically any event they host. Most recently I attended BFW over the summer and it was so much fun! The space was utilized really well and everything moved seamlessly.

Yelp
Ummmmmmmm.... the 2nd floor is mainly artifacts and sculptures. Now the 2nd floor deserves 4.5 stars. It was beautiful and informative. I just wish they had more of other populations of the world. Now the 1st floor.... wow. What a way to maintain stereotypes Alabama. Maybe I'm biased because I'm not a fan European Renaissance art. And the other art selection they had.... head scratching. Yes, I'm the Smithsonian museums have me spoiled. So we'll just leave it at saying this is not a Smithsonian Art Museum. But they still had a few pieces that were really nice. So grateful this was free. But the second floor was the bomb. The first floor is majorly lacking.

K W.

Yelp
Five stars and it's FREE! Nice varied collection with a good cafe. Parking lot behind the building.

Yelp
Definitely worth the visit! I spent about two hours exploring the museum. Loved every second! Of course it's a plus that it's free to enter, there is free parking as well

Yelp
I've been to most art museums at least once but I had never been to this one. While not a large space, the Birmingham Museum of Art tackles its encyclopedic mission surprisingly well. Its foundation is one of the better collections of old masters bequeathed by Samuel Kress. There are no iconic names in these galleries but there are some riveting paintings. The 'Battle of Pavia,' a Flemish 16th century work is filled with more fighting than a scene from Game of Thrones. In another section of the museum is Robert Carpenter's 'Murder of King Edward the Martyr at Corfe Castle,' a very rare 1810 shadow box scene of pending doom. Oddly, the guy with the knives doesn't look too strong but he obviously got the nasty deed done. A little hallway of Central American art is incredible in its quality. The larger African galleries have robust pieces on display. The Native American collection hugs a corner on the second floor and the pieces here, both and old new, are rich in detail. (I came here to see the small display of Inuit sculpture and it didn't disappoint.) Just when I thought it couldn't get better, the Asian galleries proved me wrong. There are compelling works from China, Japan, and, especially, India and Cambodia. It's not unusual to see worn fragments or defaced images of Indian art in museums. The great works that haven't been damaged reveal absolutely incredible depth. The 'Vishnu' on display here, from about the year 875, is a large fragment but nonetheless sandstone wonder of artistry as so many of the details haven't been lost to time. I think it was my favorite item in this museum. In an eclectic section of mid-20th century art is a 1932 unglazed stoneware grave marker for someone named Bud Body. I never knew ceramic grave markers existed so it opened my eyes. Stone was expensive and Alabama didn't have a source of good stone so, if you were poor, ceramic was probably the most temporarily-durable and affordable choice. I guess the real surprise for me was the comparatively small section of art from the late 20th to early 21st centuries. (A bold yellow painting by Helen Frankenthaler may be my new favorite by her.) There are some nice works on display; just not a lot of it. Considering this museum is free -- very few in the US can say that -- you really have no reason not to visit. What are you waiting for?
google avatar

Art C.

Yelp
BMA has a very nice collection, it's easy to get to, and the price is right ($0$. Better than the Frist in Nashville. Regular rotating exhibits are worth seeing; my daughter and k went to see the Hindu deity exhibit recently.

Yelp
I love the Birmingham Museum of Art so much! Located in the heart of downtown, this museum is home to incredible works of art, events, and revolving exhibits from around the world. I've attended multiple events here, from birthday parties, to the annual Holi festival, to police academy graduation, and it's always been a great time. They also do regular events like jazz brunch and art on the rocks that are very popular. Probably the coolest exhibit I've seen here was a collection of Leonardo de Vinci's drawings. We waited in line for hours, it seemed, but it was SO worth it. The current exhibit is about Barbie and I was pretty disappointed. No spoilers, but it's just not what I expected! The museum itself is large and beautiful. The displays are tasteful and well maintained, and nothing feels crowded or overdone. The museum provides headphones that you can listen to commentary on the works with. There are also several pieces of art outside. All in all, this is a fantastic museum, and one of my favorite places in Birmingham!
google avatar

Cheryl M.

Yelp
This is a really nice art museum! Is it the largest in the world? No but it's still pretty decent and it's actually free! Donations are accepted so don't be a cheapskate! We enjoyed spending a couple of hours here. The museum is well laid out and easy to get around. I was ready to buzz through the section with all the dishes because it's not really my thing but it turned out to be one of my favorite things. The Wedgewood collection is amazing. The quality and intricacy of the dishes are stunning. The pieces are really amazing works of art. The Third Space section was modern art and was very interesting. The kids really seemed to like that part of the museum the best. There is an outdoor area with some sculptures that are pretty cool as well. There is a kids play room and some kids activities down by the gift shop.

Yelp
Beautiful artwork in a beautiful space. Enjoyed the all the exhibits especially the Native American mound builders and the African American exhibits.

Yelp
Fantastic exhibits when we've gone! They are in the process of redesigning their interiors, and we look forward to seeing what they have in store. The staff are always super helpful, and the parking area behind the museum is very convenient and safe.

Yelp
The Birmingham Museum of Art is amazing. Their art collections are quite impressive for a city this size. And it's all free to the public. What I also love about the museum are the social events they have. I've been to several Friday after Five events. They have hands on art centers and sometimes snacks or beer tasting. The event I like the most is Art on the Rocks. This is a huge event with art exhibits, food, live music, and cash bars everywhere. It is a whole lot of fun for the over 21 crowd. Check it out you may be surprised
google avatar

Katelyn R.

Yelp
This place is a go to from all their FREE events to the very well priced art classes. I've been coming her for years and have recently become a member. The host art after 5 which is just free events with snacks, usually a tasting, a free craft, a look through the museum and movies of some kind. But what I love the most is the affordable classes, they go above and beyond to offer fantastic classes that most can afford so they can learn a new technique. I took a 5 week pottery class for 100 dollars, in that class I threw pottery on a wheel each class with unlimited clay, unlimited kelm time and I had access to all of their glazes. Meredith who ran class was flexible and worked with me to make up a class. Take a chance and buy a membership, sign up for class and support your local art museum, you won't regret it!

Yelp
I must say I have been missing out tremendously by not coming here! When I first entered, the two ladies at the desk were very helpful!!! They gave me a map & explained the map to me & sent me on my way!! I was overcome with emotion in these halls! I am not even sure if I can explain my experience in this review! The art whether a sculpture, artifact, or picture simply wowed me! As I got to the African exhibit, my eyes immediately swelled up with water! Seeing all the pictures & artifacts simply overwhelmed me!!! Even the Native American exhibit!!! I suppose since I share heritage with both, it touched me! I was excited & joyful to be able to see these things. AND FOR FREE. Below are a few of the pics I took. Picture are allowed BUT NO FLASH!!

Yelp
We visited the Birmingham Museum of Art this weekend when we were visiting from Nashville. The museum is free, so it's definitely worth exploring if you've never been before. However, the museum is on the small side, and its collection didn't exactly wow me. I did enjoy a small temporary exhibit they had (Celestia Morgan: REDLINE) and that they seemed to highlight pieces by artists with Alabama connections in their collection (some of the museum labels had markings to denote that the piece was created by an Alabama artist). The museum has a cafe, but it didn't seem to be open when were there (it was empty and we didn't see any staff that could/would seat us, so we assumed it was closed). It has a small gift shop near the staircase on the main floor, and a small parking lot as well. It wasn't a bad museum, but I don't think I'd recommend it over some of Birmingham's other museums and cultural sites - some of which are truly excellent). Still, worth a visit if you haven't been or are interested in a temporary exhibit or new acquisition!

Yelp
I've been wanting to bring my daughter to the Barbie e August, but really haven't had the time. One of my fellow Yelpers posted that Sunday was the last day so I made plans to take my daughter and niece. We were all excited! When we arrived we asked one of the workers to point us in the direction of the exhibit and he did so gracious graciously. We arrived outside of the room with the word Barbie all bedazzled in sequins. As we entered the room, our smiles turned to a puzzled look. The first most obvious thing we noticed, was there were no Barbie dolls, only about 3 pictures of them in frames..... To the left there was a table set up with plastic food. As you move forward thEre was a computer and sofa. Next there was a vanity and then a patio table. I looked at my niece and said "Is this it?" she laughed and shook her head yes. Again I say NO BARBIE DOLLS!!! I thought at least there would have been Barbies throughout the years that we could view. There was a family that drove up from Tuscaloosa with their daughter. We chatted for a while comparing our experience and the disappointment. Kind of glad they had a children's area to play in because she was super disappointed. The description of the exhibit is way off. I'm not sure who Waac in charge of it, but they have to do better!!!

Yelp
Here is my admission: I used to be prejudiced against cities that weren't New York or Washington. I used to think that all the good art is only there. That the cities in "flyover country" were culture-less. Poor them. And every time I am able to visit an art museum during my travel, I find myself wrong. Atlanta, Minneapolis, Boston, Seattle, Richmond, Phoenix, Milwaukee. Heck, even Montreal and Calgary! All these cities have GREAT art museums. And now I can add Birmingham to the list of places where I was wrong! Birmingham's Museum of Art is well curated and neatly organized by genre. In some places, they've successfully "mixed" the portraiture with sculpture and furniture artifacts from the same time period. Great 14th and 15th century European art to more modern stuff through the 17th and 18th centuries up to recent abstracts and photographic art. I loved that I could almost press my nose right up to the Monet to see the individual brushstrokes. Upstairs, a huge collection of pottery and ceramics. Italian porcelain, Chinese, Japanese, Thai and a big set up of African pottery too. Japanese matchlock guns next to samurai swords. Did I mention that it's free? Yes, it's completely and utterly free. There is a donation box in the entryway. Don't be like me. There's art out there in the world

Yelp
Attended the Art after 5 event of the Wakanda Event. It was very nice I enjoyed the scavenger hunt and the making the jewelry. I didn't view the movie showing but could hear it. The music played during the event was amazing and seeing the exhibits while doing the scavenger hunt was nice. I'll definitely be returning. The only thing I didn't like was that all the crafting events were in one area which made it a bit overwhelming and chaotic. It also made things hot. The more people came the less enjoyable it was. I eventually had to leave. I was elated that the food truck Travis with the bear burgers and polish sausages were outside. That was the MOVE!!!!!!!

Yelp
This is a great place to step out of the hustle and bustle of downtown B-ham to kill a few hours and just enjoy some fine art! .. With features ranging from 14th century Italian, to Victorian England, to modern American, to tribal African, to abstract/contemporary/modernist there's something aesthetically pleasing to pique the interest of any artistic taste! ... And it's FREE! (Donations accepted and appreciated) Although there ARE two small kid zones, the museum itself is NOT kid friendly... if you have rambunctious little ones, opt for a sitter instead of ruining others' experiences (*hint hint* I know from my own experience). But for art appreciating adults, you really should set aside a few hours and peruse this downtown gem!

Yelp
Absolutely amazing artwork. Can't wait to go back. I wouldn't recommend bringing young, unengaged children.

Yelp
The birmingham museum of art. Has a very nasty security guard. She was very disrespectful and made uncalled for remarks. Very unpleasant and unprofessional. Whomever is in charge of hiring and training needs to have an evaluation of the entire staff. This lady will bring only negatively to this organization. I would never recommend this museum because of the way she mistreated people. It was going to be a very nice day looking at art, but it was an absolutely disgusting experience. This person should not have this position. Obviously she has let her "power" go to her head. Definitely needs a few training sessions and therapy to interact with the general public.

Yelp
On the morning of my departure from Birmingham, I stopped by here with a few of the other interviewees. I never even knew that Birmingham had an Art Museum and I've been in the city plenty of times. The museum is free and there's a parking lot out back that is free for those at the museum as well. The museum has 3 floors total, with the top two being the ones with the exhibits. Exhibits are laid out my culture or region (I.e. African art, Asian art, English). There is a special exhibit of sorts called Third Space, which was my personal favorite. Each room in that area had words to which the art nearby was related to. Very thought provoking pieces. The museum isn't too small and isn't too large. You could walk around and peruse for a couple of hours and be done. I think this would be nice to do for a chill activity if in the area.

Yelp
I brought my 4 and 5 year old here today so we could see the Barbie exhibit and I have to say that for a room that cost like 30 thousand dollars it was very underwhelming. My daughters were both extremely let down. Both of them had been looking forward to this for a week and when we got here it was just a pink room. My living room floor is more representative of Barbie than this room. There's like three or four pictures of Barbie dolls and then wallpaper. The vanity and table with food could be for anything. Slapping some pink sequined wallpaper up and calling it Barbie is an insult honestly. 0/10 never again. I will say that the rest of the museum was lovely but not what we came for. We ended up spending our time in the Bart's kid area which was lovely and my daughters enjoyed immensely. The only thing I will say is that getting to that area we had to go past the food area where they had singing and it was a little loud for my daughters.

Yelp
I attended the Art on the Rocks event at the Birmingham Museum of Art. In the past, I've been to many events held at the BMA, but this was my first time attending Art on the Rocks. I have heard such wonderful things about this event so I'm glad I was finally able to check it out. From my understanding, the BMA has this event 3 times a year, but only during the summer months... June, July, and August. It's a lovely event. Besides walking around to view the beautiful art, they also have fashion shows, live bands/Dj's, artist demos, and interactive mural makings and much more! This event is also known for different expressions of fashion as well. I believe the event for July was themed "fluid fashion, which I thought was pretty neat. They also had several bars throughout and awesome food! It was great to see different people from different backgrounds and all walks of life at this event. I am definitely looking forward to the next Art on the Rocks event.

Yelp
Favorite place to visit on a quiet afternoon. A hidden gem. Never really crowded and there are some great pieces. I enjoy the modern art sections more but there are plenty of section that appeal to everyone's tastes. Not only is the art amazing but the gift shop is amazing too. I often find myself finding unique jewelry and clothing options that I'm always complimented on. If your visiting Birmingham or you're a permanent resident this is a must visit.

Yelp
It's a great museum and I really appreciate that admission is free. However, I will say that the Barbie exhibit was way overhyped and did not live up to expectations at all. It is a single room with some Barbie inspired furniture. It didn't feel like the Dreamhouse at all. Overall, I appreciate what they bring to our city, but was disappointed since I made a special trip just to see this exhibit. If you are looking to see the whole museum, it's a wonderful trip, but if you are going just for the Barbie exhibit, I would suggest skipping it. I am currently a member of the museum, but most likely will not renew next year if they continue bringing in exhibits that lack substance. *review edited due to typo

Yelp
Excellent museum. It looks small when you first walk in, but it's quite big! I really enjoyed the way the curators organized the exhibits.

Yelp
While I have not come to the museum without a traveling exhibit or other event, I have always enjoyed my times at the museum. First of all, it is free to public. So you really can't beat the price. They have some nice, large spaces to host events. This past time I went was for the Latinx event a week or so ago. There was some great music, food, and crafts. Our little ones are a bit too little to do some of the crafts. But I know in future years, that will be fantastic. In the past, I have come for some exhibits. In particular I remember coming for the Pompeii exhibit that was in town temporarily. It was absolutely stunning with the things that they had from such an unexpected disaster. I didn't realize the magnitude of the destruction in Pompeii until I saw some of the things. The museum was a perfect set-up to display such a powerful exhibit. I have had nothing but fantastic experiences in my time at the museum.

Yelp
We've been here a few times but this is the first time I brought my 6 year old. She really wanted to see the Barbie Exhibit. I have to say I expected more. It didn't even feel like the Dreamhouse. And there were barely any references to Barbie. It's just like a pink room with some flowers. I am disappointed. I absolutely LOVED the Wedgwood pieces. So lovely. My kids liked the kids rooms but there wasn't much to do for the older kids. I do feel like they could have done more with the Barbie exhibit. It felt cheap and thrown together.

Yelp
Loved the food and the service. The restaurant here is really the best food around and all the locals know it. There were 5 of us and we had everything from the Patty Melt, Chicken salad sandwich, chicken strips, shrimp salad and several other items and they were all delicious. The French fries were even superb! The waiter was really great and all around us everyone was bragging about their food. A great place with great food and service surrounded by art.
