16 Best Bars in Venice

"This hip, edgy dive bar on the outskirts of Cannaregio is full of young Venetians and good beer. Kitschy décor like framed beer-oriented artwork, sassy signs, and fishing nets is hung throughout the wood interior. Outside, a few canal-side tables offer a more mellow ambiance. The drink menu rebels against the rest of Venice’s bar scene: Belgian, American, British, and local Venetian beer flows from the taps behind the bar. As such, beer geeks gravitate here for tall, cold suds consumed with friends outside along the water." - Jenna Scatena

Birreria Zanon – Bar Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"You've just walked in: What's your first impression? This hip, edgy dive bar on the outskirts of Cannaregio is full of young Venetians and good beer. Kitschy décor like framed, beer-oriented artwork, sassy signs, and fishing nets is hung throughout the wood interior. Outside, a few canal-side tables offer a more mellow ambiance. So who’s here? You can count on the blonde wood booths being filled with beer lovers of various stripes—from university students to construction workers, gondoliers to thirsty travelers who have tired of spritzes and merlot. How are the drinks? This drink menu rebels against the rest of Venice’s bar scene. Belgian, American, British, and local Venetian beer flows from the taps behind the bar. As such, beer geeks gravitate here for tall, cold suds consumed with friends in the booths are outside along the water. Is it worth ordering something to eat, too? A smorgasbord of vegan, vegetarian, and meat-centric cicchetti are on offer here. Try the porchetta with ricotta and mustard sauce or the peperonata and beef bites. What about the staff? The bartenders here have a reputation for serving up attitude—but in an endearing dive bar way. Play along, and you’ll be BFFs by the time you leave. What's the bottom line? Come for a refreshing break from the ubiquitous crowds and Aperol spritzes. The beer here is best enjoyed sitting outside by the canal on a sunny afternoon." - Jenna Scatena

Google
Awesome cicchetti restaurant! Stop in for an Aperol Spritz and their incredible assortment of cicchetti. It’s also in a slightly less busy area of Venice which is great during the busy season.

We had an awesome time coming here, I highly recommend you check them out! The food and the service was phenomenal with a great vibe indoors!

We came here on our last full day in Venice. Total hidden gem. The tapas type food was amazing!!!

My wife and I was taking a stroll and this place seemed intriguing. We walked in and they fresh cicchetti’s (many different kinds) We had the spicy crab, spicy meat, hummus & zucchini and the tunafish. They all was had great flavors, fresh ingredients and the bread was perfect. The staff was super friendly and cool. The establishment is super chill too. One of my favorite places in Venice. 2 thumbs up and if I had more they would go up too.

Google
One of the things about travelling solo is that it’s sometimes hard to find a place with a good atmosphere where you don’t feel like you’re getting in the way. This place is brilliant. I’m not sure of the names, but the young man and woman who were working last Wednesday evening were the best - they spoke perfect English, they were friendly and welcoming, and the prices are great. I was sad I didn’t find it earlier.

Joanne Sosangelis

Google
It was our “local” while in Venice. They made a mean Spritz, so we kept coming back to chill by the canal.

Google
Basically this is a Venetian dive bar. For Venice standards, the prices were great. My wife is vegetarian and I’m allergic to shellfish and we still got FANTASTIC ciccheti. 10/10

Google
The place is right on the edge of a quiet canal, with outdoor tables and a relaxed atmosphere. It’s run by two very friendly ladies. The food is ready, to be served quickly, much like Spanish tapas—perfect if you’re looking for something light.

Yelp
You should really come here. The selection of cichetti is terrific, for good prices. The staff are terrific, friendly and conversational. We'd love to return and just sit along the canal, enjoy the breeze and get a bit off the beaten path.

Yelp
We were hungry after a walking tour and decided to stop by. It looked like a busy place were locals gathered, so that was a good sign. The place is cozy and has both inside and outside seating. You will find locals and tourists having ciccheti, spritzes or beer! We ordered different types of cicchetis, campari spritzes and aperol spritzes. All were delish and our drinks on point. The staff was nice, friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Stopped by for a cocktail and a cicchetti on our way to dinner. Cute little spot right up against the canal with a bustling scene and lively atmosphere. Bartender was super-friendly and helped guide us to one of the better cicchetti we had on the entire trip! Would definitely stop here again!

Yelp
This was an incredible find in Venice and I absolutely loved the open seating arrangement they have in the restaurant and out front so you get to meet and talk with locals and travelers from all over. Staff are fantastic, I asked the bartender for some food recommendations and the cicchetti she recommended were all amazing. The staff were also quick to clear tables once groups left so new people could come sit and enjoy their snacks and drinks. Between two visits I tried 10 different cicchetti (2.50€/piece when I visited) and each one was unique and delicious though I have to say the vegetarian ones (cheese and some sort of vegetable combo) were below par compared to their seafood options in particular. The salami cicchetti was the best I've ever had, if you like cured meat I would absolutely order this one first. I saw from some reviews that they used to not have any cocktails but that may have changed since when I went the other day they had a full bar menu of cocktails in addition to draft beers, wines, spritz's and various aperitifs. If you want a cocktail and appetizer in Venezia this is one of the best places I have personally been. Everyone has certain restaurants they inherently enjoy more than others for a variety of reasons. For me, the combination of atmosphere, food, drinks, friendly service, and beautiful location make this one of my favorite bars of all time. I would give more stars if I could

Yelp
This place has a fun vibe and plays great music - classic California hip hop. I can't explain why it goes so well with the Italian wine bar thing they're doing, but they pull it off perfectly. Decorations are irreverent yet staff are accommodating. They have free wifi, outdoor seating alongside the small canal, and a free shot if you like them on Facebook or follow them on Instagram. Overall, it just works. I'd go out of my way to come here again anytime I'm in Venice. This places makes not eating meat easy, fun, and inventive yet still Italian. I loved their bruschette in delicious combos like asparagus-mozzarella-black truffle, pesto-tomato-balsamic, and pumpkin-brie-spicy "salsa." They also have many meat and seafood options - classic prosciutto and salami included. A aperol spritz is their only cocktail but they do it right. The bulk of the drink choices are wines by the glass. If you're not a wine expert, don't feel intimidated. On my first visit, I randomly chose the Lugano white and was happily surprised. The staff is also willing to make recommendations. Everything on the drink menu is Italian except some of their beers and everything we tried was good. Prices are all around affordable - the bruschette can add up if you're trying to make a meal out of them, but drinks are cheap and good. Nothing in the place was over €5. Don't miss it!

Yelp
This bar is located in Venice's Ghetto quarter. Its full of local Venetians. We loved our time at this little bar people watching along with watching the boats go by. The crowd is social, and you cannot beat this on summer evenings. It also has a good variety of chichetti, all of which we tried were really tasty and a really patient and friendly barman who explained all the items on display. There is no table service and it is clearly marked everywhere so you order at the bar. I'd recommend this to anyone who comes to Venice. Also plenty of places around this bar to eat, so its a great stop off.

Yelp
What a cool, local place!! Highly recommend going to this area on a Friday night if you're feeling young and flirty! Came here after a free walking tour and our tour guide said this is where she and her friends get drinks and Cicchetti. There is limited seating outside so when you see something open up grab it! If you're a couple don't be freaked out if another couple sits with you at the table- this is the Venetian way! Plus you get to make new friends! Really enjoyed the Chardonnay and multiple Cicchetti we got here! Would recommend any of the meat ones and maybe hold off on the cod because it's really a powerful taste.

Yelp
5 stars for service. 4 stars for the house white wine. 0 stars for the music. 0 star for the stale bread. We found this on Yelp and decided try it....given it had 5 stars with 11 reviews. Had the house white and one of each Cicchetti. The house white was was a sparkling Pinot gris which was decent. The Cicchetti was like..."hey...what do we have that we need to throw out soon? And let's put it on that stale bread left over from last week!" The music was hip hop with a couple of "n" words and F-bombs per song. Def not a fan. From the inside of the place, it could be in any city in the US. Come on guys...we came to Venice to experience the Venetian culture...not Straight Outta Compton!

Yelp
A totally off the beaten path, non-tourist place to grab a bite to eat and a glass of wine or beer. Nothing fancy, but everything we tried, from the cold white wine to the wonderful little sandwiches was absolutely delicious. There are a few outdoor tables practically hugging the canal. Great for people watching. After securing our space we were told by a couple of locals (yay!) to go inside and order at the bar. The local wine choice was easy. The crisp white was ice cold and delicious! There's a whole array of little food items to choose from: meatballs and calzones (with a better name than that) and lots and lots of open faced sandwiches. We chose four of them at 2e a piece: turkey with bleu cheese, tuna with onions, spiced meat, and cod. Each was served on a different type of bread and was seasoned to perfection. It was a fantastic place to recharge!

Yelp
Really great staff, fun clientele, cool space, good prices. Couldn't give 5 since they weren't serving food due to the flooding.

Yelp
Stumbled into this place walking on our first day.ove the vibe, very West Coast with the old school hip hop/rap. The wine and appitiizers were great and the fun ambiance/wall decor.

Yelp
Great place to relax after a long walk in Venice! I loved all the cicchettis! They paired well with my wine and my husband enjoyed them with his cold beer. The music was a little loud but overall a good experience.
google avatar

Emilia B.

Yelp
Nick was the bartender the couple of times I was there. He is super friendly and knows his beers. Fun ambiance, good snacks. Great prices compared to the busier parts of Venice. It is a great place to get away from the noise and crowds!

Heather A.

Yelp
Fun spot with local wine selections and full bar. Love that they have Tupac on repeat!

Yelp
I'm not sure what brought us here. Maybe it was 2pac blasting through the speakers? Or the funny signs they have plastered everywhere? Or the abundance of locals (and a lack of tourists)? Or the friendly staff? Or the tasty appetizers? Or the reasonably priced drinks? Nope... That's not it... I can't put my finger on it but there was something about this place that made it awesome.

Yelp
Ok, if you go to Venice, do yourself a favor and go here. It's off the beaten path and it's well worth finding it. A local recommended it and it didn't disappoint.

Yelp
Excellent place to stop for a pre or post dinner drink. Seems very popular with the locals. Has free wifi. Beer selection was good. Yelp lists this as a wine bar - that might be a bit misleading. They did have some wine available, but beer is clearly the focus here. Head east to Vino Vero for a great selection of wines by the glass, but if you want some suds, this place should do the trick.

Cooper L.

Yelp
Fantastic food. The Venetian Cod is the best! The Smoked Beef was phenomenal - best meat I have ever had. Great authentic ambiance away from the tourist traps.

Yelp
Came in to use the free ticket from our kayak tour. Free wifi. Fun password. Good snacks. Fun atmosphere.

Yelp
Yes yes yes! Buongiorno. We loved the wine selection, off the beaten path, restaurant. The ciccheti sandwiches were incredible and a few outdoor seating spots along the water.

David S.

Yelp
All the other reviews are spot on! We were lucky enough to be staying on this side of town - but if you want a chill (read, affordable) spot off the beaten path in Venice - come here. Good beer, food and atmosphere on a side canal for a much better price. Seats inside and outside offer different atmospheres based upon what you're in the mood for. Not to forget the great 90's hip hop station they leave it exclusively on...and awesome signage inside.
