Even with the marvelous, fresh seafood everywhere in Ensenada, this joint became our favorite lunch spot. We visited here twice, on back-to-back days. If you love Birrieria tacos, this place has amazing ones. Upon entering on Sunday, January 1, 2023, we saw all the locals sitting here and had to wait for a table. A mariachi band cruised from table to table playing songs for patrons who paid them. At the bar, the bartenders looked super busy pouring shots of Tequila and crafting Margaritas. A bunch of ladies in the back made fresh tortillas and put together the scrumptious meals.
We ordered three quesatacos: pork (puerco, 55 pesos/$2.91), goat (chivo, 63 pesos/$3.33) and lamb (borrego, 63 pesos/$3.33), which are a corn tortilla quesadilla stuffed with meat. The quesatacos come with guacamole and refried beans on the side, the tacos do not have these on the side. We also ordered a Cadillac Margarita, (176 pesos/$9.32), a Tom Collins (81 pesos/$4.29), mineral water (26 pesos/$1.38), a taco de arrachera (62 pesos/$3.28) and a taco de asada (41 pesos/$2.17). The waitress had our food out within five minutes despite being packed. My wife said her Cadillac Margarita had lots of alcohol, but my Tom Collins tasted a bit watered down. The two beef tacos I ordered were a bit dry, but the quesatacos were melty good. Our favorite quesatacos were the lamb and pork. We ordered two more of these.
They bring out chips and salsa to start you out (pretty sure these were super fresh). With the main meal, they bring out a bowl of hot sauce, a plate of diced onions, cilantro, halved limes, and radishes. First time we visited; we paid a total of 705 peso/$37.11 for a ton of great, fresh food.
The second time we visited here, 1/2/2023, we ordered: Coke (34 pesos/$1.80), limonada (31 pesos/$1.64), Cadillac Margarita (176 pesos/$9.32), Orden de borrego a la plancha, a bowl of lamb meat and about six corn tortillas (233 pesos/$12.33), and 2 quesatacos de puerco (110 pesos/$5.82). Any meat, a la plancha, is the way to go. They will bring you out a steaming cup of the Birrieria sauce to spoon onto your tacos. Of course, on the side they still bring out chips and salsa, cilantro, diced onions, whole radishes, limes, red hot sauce, and baked beans.
We paid a total of $35.74 on our second visit and waddled out the front door. If we visit Ensenada again, we are definitely coming here, everyone was in a great mood and all the food was super fresh. When we come back, we'll be sure to order the "Orden A La Plancha".
