Yelp
Bishop Lei is the hotel around my neighbourhood. Overall, it's not the most luxurious option for someone visiting Hong Kong, but it does give people a very unique experience in that it is one of the few hotels in the mid-levels, so in a sense tourists have a chance to see how upper middle class and expat residents go about their lives. It's convenient in that the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to Central, Admiralty and Wan Chai, and because there's a bunch of other bus lines available to guests should they wish to travel to Causeway Bay (the shopping district), Central or Admiralty. It is also very easy to walk to Central (Hong Kong's business district) which is where the Star Ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui is. The Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical gardens are also next to this hotel. Room rates are generally quite reasonable and the facilities are adequate. Please note that they use conventional keys for their doors, not keycards.
On the several occasions that my house was being renovated or there were visitors staying at the house, I wound up sleeping in their rooms. Their seaview rooms are awesome as you can get really pretty views of Central, but if you're traveling on a budget, the single and double rooms will do just fine. They're a little on the small side, but there's still some space to move around and relax. WiFi is available in this hotel, but it's not great. Don't get me wrong, you can still watch HD videos on it, but if you need to download anything, speeds will be roughly 100KB/s. The front desk will give you access codes when you check in. If you have more devices than codes, you can request additional access codes to sign your devices in to their WiFi network.
As for other facilities, the beds generally use hard mattresses, and somewhat minimalistic beddings- again, adequate, not fancy, not 5-star. TV channels are somewhat basic, but you still do get access to international news channels like BBC news and CNN. When living here, I'd recommend the lower floors, because while they do have 3 elevators in service, they're all very slow, and somewhat lacking in capacity, meaning it sometimes takes a while for one to arrive at your floor. Some rooms will require that you stick the key into a switch to get power in your room, though I've been in a few that are still powered without the keys. Air conditioning is generally very good in most rooms as you get your own A/C unit as opposed to central air conditioning. If you want to open the windows, you will find that they have rather unfortunately been sealed shut. I guess that's their way of encouraging you to go out and explore the town.
Again, facilities in this hotel are less than great, but if you focus on the location, room rates and this hotel's proximity to tourist attractions, this place offers a pretty decent deal.
