Mixed experience, great Sunday roast but disappointing and overpriced desserts
This was my first visit to the restaurant, and at the start I genuinely thought I’d found a new favourite. The décor is lovely, and I ordered the Sunday Feast for One, which was really nice. The meat was tender, the Yorkshire puddings were big, and the gravy tied everything together beautifully. The only downside on the plate was the stuffing, it was quite rubbery, so I wouldn’t order it as an extra dish.
Unfortunately, things went downhill when it came to dessert. I chose the four-layer fudge cake (£7.95), which is definitely on the pricier end but I was impressed with the meal so I thought it'd be worth it too . What I got didn’t resemble a fudge cake at all, it tasted like a basic cheap supermarket chocolate cake served almost cold and the slice was tiny. It just tasted sweet and the flavour that was there was really unpleasant. It was really unejoyable. My friend had the sticky toffee pudding (£7.50), and his portion was small too and he didn't rate his or mine either
Service started off attentive, but once we got dessert it was like we vanished. No one checked in, so I just pushed through the cake even though each bite annoyed me more. When the plates were finally collected, I shared our feedback, but the response I got was, “No one has ever complained before.” I’m not sure why that was the go to response as it was invalidating and dismissive. It made me feel like my experience didn’t matter.
I would have come back for the Sunday dinner because it really was lovely but after that response, I’m hesitant. Overall, it's worth going for the Sunday dinner but save your money and skip the desserts.
