Google
Place recommended to us by our hotel who helped make the reservations just in case. Small and family owned. Everything is fresh and local. So sometimes some things are not available as they are out of season or there were catches. Service was welcoming. Food was excellent. Everything tastes so fresh and delicious. We honestlg wanted to order the whole menu to try but our waiter assured us our dishes were enough. Local wines can be recommended to pair with the meal as well. We also love the adorable concept they have of letting the guests write messages on the tiled walls. It was fun to try and see what languages were there and when they visited. Of course we added our own mark too. If I ever return to Evora, I would definitely stop here again.

Google
Incredible restaurant, we went on a night that wasn't busy and has the whole place to ourselves. The owner was friendly, and everyone agreed this was one of the best meals we've had in Portugal. The beef tournado was gorgeously seared and seasoned to perfection, the pork cheeks just melt in your mouth, and the appetizer plates had us all wishing for more. You can take the compliments written all over the walls from visitors from around the world at their word when they say this is one of the best meals you'll ever eat.

Google
Everything was absolutely genuine here. The hosts were the most fantastic thing here, they are so generous and hard working so one must visit this place just for them. Food and the wine is definitely something I cannot explain much here. Worth the visit when you are in Evora. Deserts were too much for us after having the tasty main course :D

This was an amazing restaurant! Very pleased with the entire evening! Looking forward to returning! Excellent wine and food!

Google
We visited the placed without reservation, but would advise to book in advance. The food was outstanding, exceeded our expectations, the service and space gives a special touch to the place. The steak* Tornedó was delicious, the cut of the meat, was so tender…. What a delicacy… A place to visit in Évora and to return indeed!

Google
Small authentic restaurant with amazing food. They take 10 tables for lunch and 10 for dinner. Make a reservation as the food is amazing. And they book up fast. We took the recommendations of our server (husband serves, his wife is the culinary artist) and were not disappointed. We were sad we couldn't get in for a second evening

Google
What an intimate, exceptional experience, so glad we showed up at opening time. Our host/owner?/server single handedly managed the operation while the cook behind the scenes kept the aromas and dishes flowing. One of my favorite prawn appetizers ever. I enjoyed a wonderful pig & clam dish for dinner & a unique pear dish for dessert. Great wine selection, but get a reservation as there’s very limited seating, one of the highlights of our 12 day Portugal adventure.

Google
One of the best meals I’ve had in Europe. Everything was top-notch; food, service and atmosphere. Our server was delightful and genuine. Made the meal in fact. Would go back to Evora again just to eat there.

Yelp
I spent three weeks touring Portugal, stopping in Porto, Coimbra, Evora, Tavira and Libson. Miguel served the most wonderful meal during my visit. I followed his recommendations and started the meal with sliced ham followed by the most delicious veal, salad and vegetables. Miguel called the veal, soft, and it was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The salad had lettuce, tomatoes and thin slices of onion. The local red wine complimented the meal, and encouraged me to buy several bottles (from the winery). I strongly recommend reservations a day or two in advance and would definitely return!

Yelp
Certainly the most exquisite dining experience so far in Portugal. Miguel was an excellent host guiding us through the small but exceptional menu. We began with shrimps in the most delicious sauce that left you begging for more (and asking for the recipe). Next, steamed baby clams - superb. Our foursome chose partridge pie, cod and shrimp volavante and pork filets. Wine was a local red and white. A worthy accompaniment. Dessert - pear and vanilla ice cream with a champagne sauce. The ambiance and service were excellent. The restaurant only seats 12, so you will probably need a reservation. It will be well worth your time. Enjoy!

Yelp
My family and I spent one short day In Evora heading from Porto to Portimao. Miguel was a wonderful host, and his wife Margarita really knows what she's doing in the kitchen. A reservation is absolutely required as they have seating for 10 only. It is a small and quaint restaurant with tons of character. There were 5 of us, and upon looking at the menu Miguel knew we needed some help picking. We let him choose all of our food; 3 appetizers and 3 entrees to share. Everything was cooked perfectly and extremely tasty. The wine was flowing and we had a wonderful time together. We would absolutely return and stay for a bit longer. Wonderful experience!

Yelp
Found this restaurant recommendation on Yelp and it did not disappoint! It is in Evora on a small side street. It is small inside and has 5 tables but it spacious. Our host was great and went over the menu with us, they even made something special for our vegan. The octopus was cooked in a delicate batter served with a sauce and salad, it was cooked perfectly and very tender. We all loved the place, the food and service!

Yelp
We were recommended this restaurant from our nearby hotel, who were kind enough to call and place the reservation for us. It is a tiny place, with only around 5 tables, so a reservation is a good idea. The host, Miguel, is very welcoming and we were seated in the back room which has an interesting decor of tiling with notes from visitors from all over the world written all over it. Miguel was kind enough to help recommend a good wine, and food for us to have, simplifying the process of ordering. All of his suggestions were excellent! We started with house appetizers of white anchovy and tomato which was very good, and cured black pork, also tasty, although I cannot taste the supposed difference between this and normal cured pork. We then moved on to our mains - lamb stew and pork cutlets. The lamb stew was very good with rich broth and tender meat. We were sad to miss out on the leg of lamb but they had just run out. The pork cutlet was supposed to be another special item- the meat of black pork, not served outside the Evora region. It was tasty to be sure but not too unusual if you have eaten pork before. For dessert we had the house special of egg custard with cinnamon and almond pumpkin pie. Though these are typical desserts of Portugal they were of high quality here. Overall going to Bistro Barao is a good experiance with excellent food, warm service, and a nice cozy ambiance. They could improve the speed of the meal. I was a little confused as to why the hotel seemed to think it was the best restaurant ever, but it was certainly better than many places we've tried.

Yelp
Bistro Barao is a charming little bistro run by a father and daughter. The restaurant is very small with just 12 seats inside. The father runs the front of the house and the daughter is the chef. The place has a very homey feel. This may sound strange, but you could feel the love and heart of the chef through her food. We started the meal with the cured Iberian ham and the cheese platter. We paired it with a local wine (It was fantastic). For our main course we had the partridge pie and the Black Pig pork loin. Both dishes were incredibly flavorful. The chef paired these with fresh salad sides - which we greatly appreciated. It was one of our best dining experiences on our vacation. We highly recommend Bistro Barao.

Yelp
Our favorite meal in Portugal. Miguel was so kind and helpful with his suggestions for our meal and the perfect wine to accompany everything. We started with the freshest, most delectable garlic shrimp, then shared the salmon en croute which was perfectly baked in the lightest, flakiest crust possible. The mixed salad was fresh and delicious as well. Then we had the grilled black pork which was melt in your mouth tender, served with fresh tomatoes with balsamic and a light pumpkin puree. Dessert was a wonderful almond cake with honey that we devoured before I thought to take a picture of, then Miguel brought us an almond digestiv to finish a meal we'll never forget. We insisted that he bring his wife, Margarita out of the kitchen and the whole restaurant burst into applause. The restaurant only seats 12 and we were there for nearly three hours. It was truly memorable.

Yelp
A fabulous evening! We let the owner recommend wine and dishes and everything was beyond amazing. The meats were cooked to perfection and the whole meal melted in the mouth.

Cyra C.

Yelp
Fantastic meal, wonderful wine. The food was perfect. I ate a partridge pie that was memorable. The waiter knew the food and the wine and clearly the locals with a palate come to drink good wine here.

Yelp
Before we walked into Bistro Barao, we spent 5 days in Portugal. This was the best meal we have had. It was simple, home made and delicious. This is the one place we would definitely go to again.

Yelp
Miguel and his wife were increadibly nice. Such an amazingly cute and cozy space feels like you are in their home. The steak and the fish stew were fantastic. The wine recommendation was perfect and speaking with Miguel during dinner is half the point! His wife is a phenomenal cook! It's like real small-town authentic cooking! Miguel gave us a free Port to end the night with our amazing pumpkin (pastry? Pie?) Desert. A treat when you are in Evora.

Yelp
This is a very small, intimate restaurant. The wife is the chef doing the food prep and cooking; the husband is the host and guide to food and drink selections. We sat at one of 3 two-person outside tables. The interior, viewed to use the WC, appeared charming. Excellent food and drink. Wonderful experience.

Yelp
Miquel was awesome with fabulous food. The tempura octopus melted in my mouth! Highly recommend to get reservations and enjoy a wonderful evening!

Yelp
We arrived just before 3, late for the Portuguese lunch hour (typically between 12 and 2). Miguel and Margarita were kind to accept us. Immediately it felt like we were in their home and they were going to take great care of us! Miguel simply asked "meat or fish". We all answered fish and he proceeded to recommend a few dishes of fish - we all settled on the Hake which was tempura style. He also recommended the ham (amazing!!!!) and the melted cheese. The fish was served with a small, light green salad. It was delicious! Miguel kept checking in with us - really wanting to know if we were happy. Spanish ended up being the bridge language as our Porteguese and his English wasn't so good! Adorable couple in a warm and homey space. We made reservations to come back the next evening for dinner. Not inexpensive but well worth it. Dinner update: Round 2! Miguel greeted us and the show began - starting with a delicious bread/cheese couvert. He suggested the soup (delicious) and the filet mignon as our mains. And of course a wine pairing. A great experience and very good food. A lovely, lovely place. I will remember this place!

Yelp
This tiny little place in Évora is a husband and wife team. And the food is top notch. The service is friendly and jovial and the traditional appetizers served at arrival are a treat. We had the traditional fish stew and the beef. Both were amazing! As was the wine!

Yelp
Wonderful tiny place tucked away inside the old city in Évora. The prawns were outstanding, the pork succulent. Fried cheese with honey appetizer was great start. Proprietor was a charming old guy who take care of the six tables. Service was excellent. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This is a pearl of a restaurant! We never even looked at the menu, Miguel took care of us, guided us with suggestions and served with top class food and wine. You must try it:)!

Yelp
We loved this place so much we returned for a second wonderful dining experience two days later. The food was fabulous at a very reasonable price. In particular we liked the Grilled Shrimp starter (10 huge shrimp grilled to perfection), the Bistro style Octopus (Octopus tempura), and the Tenderloin Stake (steak) which was a 12 ounce filet mignon of veal which melted in your mouth. Miguel was the waiter and his wife Margarida did the cooking. They were super friendly and made sure we were having a good experience. The restaurant only had 6 tables, so reservations are a must. I cannot say enough good about this place.

Yelp
I was visiting Evora when I stumbled upon this hidden gem. As soon as we walked in, (the boyfriend and I) were welcomed by the friendly owners. The restaurant is very clean, and it has a truly cozy atmosphere that made me feel like I was in my grandmothers kitchen;and having her food. Yes, folks, it truly tastes like homemade food. We shared various tapas style dishes. The one that stood out the most to me was the amazing shrimp... the freshest shrimp I have ever eaten. ( that in itself should make you run,and not walk to this place if you like shrimp as much as I do!!)The garlic sauce which accompanied them was delicious, and I could not help myself but dip it with bread! Yum! For those that love vegetables, olives and cheese, they cater to those preferences also. Their mushrooms were truly to die for!!! The omelette made with asparagus was delightful... mouthwatering! If my review isn't enough for you to make a decision, you can read the ones featured in the restaurant itself (very creative and genuine!) in different languages, written on the walls, of people that fell in love with this place like we did! My boyfriend had some of the ham and he said it was delicious.... The desserts (sobremesas), you wouldn´t blame me that I tried one of each, if you saw how scrumptious they looked... I had the rice pudding, Pão de Rala. Alentejo tradicional sweet, and last but not least Almond Cake (Toucinho Do Céu) - which means bacon of the sky! no worries, there is no bacon in it just a tartlet filled with egg yolks and sugar. In conclusion, you must check out this place. It's truly authentic and the ambiance is fantastic. The attention to detail is one of my favorite things. Even the bathrooms are decorated with beautiful photographs ( and actual towels are provided for you to dry your hands!) that are included throughout the restaurant... of Evora, and it's architectural beauty! Give this place a try. It was a delighful experience from start to finish! You will not be disappointed, can't wait to go back and try other dishes:)

Yelp
In my opinion this place is overrated and a poorly disguised tourist trap. Our hotel recommended it highly and we were disappointed. The food was good and the service attentive but overbearing. Certainly not my idea of charming , a word used by many to describe it. Overpriced as well. We paid over a 100 Euros for what should not have been over 65.

Yelp
Lovely (tiny) place, great food and fantastic service. We felt at home and ordered all of Miguel's recommendations. You have to come here if you go to Evora!

Yelp
The owner is very nice person. Basically he suggest the plates and the wine. All was perfect, the food was very well made and the wine was five stars. The bill was a little expensive but it worth it. Just try it but don't forget to make reservation. The restaurant is very Cousy but only has 5 tables

Yelp
We stopped by here, on a whim, when two other places we were seeking out were closed. We didn't have a reservation, but Miguel sat us at a nice table in the back room, which feature MANY positive reviews and notes from people all over the world. We weren't sure what we wanted exactly, and originally were seeking a small meal and glass of wine, but we opted to let Miguel make suggestions off the menu. I am not sad that we did this at all. We ordered a delicious bottle of wine from a local winery and started with melted sheep cheese from the local region, with oregano. It was to die for. Second, we got the tempura octopus dish with rice - I have never had Octopus so tender as this. The dish was perfectly flavored - very fresh. Not salty like some of the comparable dishes we had later. For the main course, we ordered the pig cheek, which again did not disappoint. I had had guanciale prepared similar to bacon before, or in a carbonara, but never braised like short rib. Oh my god is all I can say. The dish was warm and familiar tasting - like something my grandmother would have made on a cold night - but much more decadent. Dessert (which we honestly didn't think we could fit in, but didn't dare turn down) was a combination of a basque tart and a creamy egg and sugar bake. Again - absolutely out of this world. I loved meeting Miguel's wife, the mastermind behind the delicious food we had just consumed. Definitely favorite meal of the trip, and probably one of the best meals of my life, save some dear to my heart recipes of my family.

Yelp
Excellent evening, fantastic food and wine. The owners were very friendly, which I enjoyed since I speak Portuguese, but my wife felt they were overly intrusive. A real gem, nevertheless.

Leigh A.

Yelp
The meal was incredible! The waiter was excellent and made great recommendations. My husband and I shared the clams, octopus, steak, almond cake, and a bottle of red wine. Every dish was expertly prepared. The steak in particular was excellent. I'm so glad we decided to eat here!

Kim M.

Yelp
As foreigners we found this on Yelp. Asked owner for recommendations and had octopus Pork and veal by owners recommendation, wine by recommendation .owners were lively and came to us. Hidden gem,

Yelp
I had a lovely Bitoque and my pal had a delicious cod dish. The service was kind and friendly. There were sweet messages from travelers written on the walls. It was so cute and fun. I enjoyed it very much and recommend it if you have some time to relax in Evora.
