"Located in a historic mansion on one of the oldest streets in Oranjestad, Bistro de Suikertuin is hard to miss. The building is painted a bright hue of yellow, reminiscent of the tropical birds that visit its namesake sugar garden, and the front porch features a blackboard with the daily menu. Tables are scattered inside and out, but the pretty garden is the preferred spot for savoring your morning coffee and Aruba ’s traditional pancakes. Come lunch, the restaurant is all about salads, wraps, and broodjes (Dutch-style sandwiches with meat and/or cheese on baguettes). Note: Reservations are recommended for afternoon tea service."

Excellent atomosphere with great ambient lighting. The waiter was very nice and gave great service. Food was the best meal we had on the island of Aruba... we have been to Aruba more than a dozen times. The presentation and quality both were on point. The soup was very good. Probably the best soup I have ever had. The special soup of the day was the zucchini and cauliflower which was delectable. when I went was the I had the coconut shrimp (pictured) which was very good. The bread that came with the soup was also very very good. The Dutch pie I had for dessert was also amazing. I would say it is great for a peaceful family dinner but also would make a great romantic datenight. It had both a great wine and cocktail selection. The sauces and appetizers were also very good. One of the few restraunts in Aruba which did not feel overcrowded and loud and roundy. Overall the best place I have ever ate at in Aruba across the board!

Wanted some local food and beers and found this restaurant about a 1 km walk from where our ship was docked. No obvious tourists inside, and the place was well reviewed. I was not disappointed! Started with a bucket of ice cold Balashi beers, a local favorite, and definitely needed to cool off from the walk as it was incredibly hot and humid outside at midday. There is a very charming garden with tables in the back, but nobody had the guts to sit out there because of the heat, so we got to enjoy some air-conditioning! I asked the server what people really enjoy and continually order at her restaurant, and she suggested the beef carpaccio. It was quite good, fresh, flavorful, with quality beef, and a peppercorn style dressing on top of the rocket (arugula) and greens. The special of a tuna club sandwich sounded interesting, and indeed it was, with a fried egg on top of the tuna. Gave off a very European vibe to me, but Aruba is Dutch, so there you go. With my lunch, I ordered the onion soup, which was different from its French cousin, in that it used a pungent blue cheese, and a large number of herbs. It had just the right amount of onions in there, was not overly salty, and was quite tasty. Served in what appeared to be a candy dish, it was excellent, despite it being very hot outside and seemingly a bad day to order soup. Do yourself a favor and order a bowl! My buddy ordered a pasta Bolognese, which he said was excellent, along with a bowl of the same onion soup for himself. Service was island relaxed, and they checked in on us from time to time. Friendly and knowledgeable, they spoke excellent English, and helped us enjoy the great meal.

As I sat under the sprawling tree on the outdoor patio, the wind whirled, and I swirled the lime in my Chill beer, brewed locally by Balashi. The sugar bird, inspiration for the restaurant's name, danced before me, seemingly curious, yet unruffled. I felt fortunate to have experienced the enchantment that inspired the restaurant's name, a testament to the previous owner's vision.

Suikertuin is a nice establishment. The building is very nice and the bougainvillea trees make it very picturesque. The inside ambiance is quite welcoming as well. The food was good. I enjoyed the tuna item. The loaded nachos were very filling, but good. The drinks were well made. The service was friendly and courteous. I’d say almost every item here (not just the food) was presented in a very aesthetically pleasing manner. You could tell that some thought was put into it.

So happy we found this place. Food is perfectly prepared and the staff could not have been kinder. The amuse bouche of pumpkin soup made us come back later in the week for a bowl. Loved the grilled chicken skewers and the tuna trio platter. Also has beautiful ourdoor seating. Recommend!

Lovely spot with great food – would recommend! I’ve eaten at De Suikertuin twice now and both times were really good. First of all, the setting is great – their garden is super peaceful, with birds chirping in the background. A very calm and welcoming place to start your evening. Service is thoughtful from the start – they ask about allergies right away, and even the amuse was adjusted for me (a small pumpkin soup and a little bite – a nice touch). I’ve had the shrimp ravioli and the fried prawns with vegetables – both very tasty. The chocolate lava cake is definitely worth saving room for! Overall, I’ve had really good experiences here: friendly staff, high-quality food, and a relaxing atmosphere. Only thing to note is that the food can take a while to arrive, but it’s worth the wait.

This is one of the few restaurants thats open a bit late in the night. The waiters are really friendly and the service is good. They can make Nasi Goreng vegan by removing chicken and addng vegetable. While the food is good, I wish they had vegan protein like tofu as a substitute for chicken to be good quality and fairer price

We were here last June twice, and 1 time before that, a couple of years earlier. We are very excited to return this upcoming June 2026! Such a friendly and historic environment which will instantly make you feel like an Aruban local. Do not overlook this off the beaten path absolute gem of a bistro. We have ordered MANY different things and not one item disappoints. Make a reservation for Saturday brunch and you can order anything you want off their menu which includes unlimited mimosas for a set price. I think it was $53 a person, but well worth it. We left with our stomachs full and a great champagne buzz! This place transports you to an old Dutch village that you wouldn't believe is in Aruba. Not touristy at all, and we were dining with mostly locals which was awesome. There is also a backyard enclosed patio with trees and the birds singing. However, it may get a little warm back there depending on your mood that day. We come to Aruba for 2 straight weeks every year and we will absolutely be there this June at LEAST twice. Great food, ambiance and fantastic prices for the quality.
