Bistro Maison was recommended to us by a gentleman who worked at one of the nearby wineries. I had high hopes for a fancy night out and good food, but unfortunately I was left feeling a little disappointed.
At first glance, the restaurant looks like it's inside of a house! You totally get a homey feeling when you are inside. The decor is very old school; I loved the funky yellow wallpaper! The host offered to hang our coats up before leading us to our table. They moved our reservation up an hour which was greatly appreciated.
We were first sat at a table that was in a very high traffic area. They offered to move us without us even asking which was very thoughtful. The waitresses were hustling pretty hard. Props for getting the food out quickly to your hungry patrons!
We ordered the coq au vin, duck, a salad and escargot. First they brought out a little bowl of french bread slices. The bread was a little on the soft side and was ice cold. Not the quality I was expecting from a "higher end" restaurant. The salad was great and big enough for two to share. The escargot was for sure one of the highlights. Big juicy snails covered in butter, garlic and parsley (don't yuck my yum!). The coq au vin was delicious, very thick sauce and the chicken just fell off of the bone. The duck was a big disappointment. While it was a great portion, the meat was very dry and the skin was a little hard to chew. I also ordered steam veggies as a side dish that were pretty flavorless. Just had a bit of salt and pepper on top, nothing special at all.
Feeling a little meh about my meal, we decided to order some dessert. My friend got the crème brûlée trio which had a beautiful presentation. I was feeling like I wanted some ice cream, so I ordered the sundae. The waitress essentially called me out for ordering something too "plain". It felt super awkward to be dessert shamed. ANYWAY, loved the sundae! They doused that baby in chocolate and I enjoyed the berry flavor as well. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing (the duck), but I wouldn't go out of my way to return if I am in the area again.
