Bistro Pesto

Very nice restaurant in Sofia where you can find handmade pasta, the owner is from Genova and his homemade pesto is delicious. We also tried their revisited Tiramisu and we didn't regret at all! As an Italian I recommend to visit this restaurant! Grazie!

We visited this place twice during our stay in Sofia – once for lunch and once for dinner. We had the beef and the fish pasta, and honestly couldn’t decide which one was better – both were delicious. Their version of tiramisu with strawberries was great. It was a bit busy during dinner time, and they warned us that ordering two different types of pasta might result in a 30-minute wait. However, that wasn’t the case – we got our meals almost at the same time, and the service was quick overall. They also accept card payments, which was convenient.

This cute little pasta place is a must visit - we paid £20 for 2 freshly made pastas and 2 drinks which is a bargain. There’s no reservations so you just have to try your luck as there’s not that many tables either. It feels like a real family operation and the owner speaks good English (with the menu in English too). The pasta was delicious and served quickly. Whilst you wait you can draw with the colouring pencils and paper (which they then display in the menu).

Firsts thing first - this place is really amazing. It is small, but very cozy. There are two places, the one that is the main Bistro Pesto and the other that I suppose is open only if there is a lot of people who want to eat. And the other place is where we went. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing. I felt like I was in some sort of Italian Renaissance restaurant. Wooden stove, big table with benches where to seat, wine cellar, Italian books... Absolutely amazing. But the main star of the evening was the food. With my girlfriend we ordered salads - Traditional and one that I can't recall the name. But the salads were fresh, tasty with good seasoning. But the pasta, oh, the pasta was so delicious! We've ordered one with beef, one with cheese and one with pesto. And the Pasta with cheese was devine! It was out of this world delicious! The one with Pesto was also absolutely amazing and so tasty. Finally the one with beef was also amazing, but the others were out of of this world tasty. The service is amazing. The wife of the Owner was very nice, very sweet and offer us with amazing service. Most definitely recommend this place for an amazing experience and authentic Italian cuisine!

The pasta is simply spectacular - 10/10. Fresh, homemade pasta, perfect mix of flavours. The portions are huge! My favorite was the vegetable pasta. The place itself is quite cozy, and has its own character. Service was good as well.

Since long time I didn't had such awful experience. We ordered some pasta, waited a lot and came totally different dish and it turn out the type of pasta we ordered finished but they didn't told us. The pasta was not "Al dente". Simply it was not cooked. And finally they start pressuring us to leave because... "we need the table". It use to be a good place but unfortunately no more. There are much, much better Italian bistros and restaurants in Sofia.
