We stayed nearby and just popped in late, waited at the bar for a table on a busy Friday night about ten pm. The service was friendly and efficient and they served us classic French dishes. I had filet of bass in sauce vierge with pistachio and my companion had a wild boar daube, I had creme brûlée and he had rice pudding. Really good and they spoke to us in English.

Beautiful traditional bistrot. The wine is great and the food amazing. Be aware that portions tend to be huge. We had two main courses and two desserts and we were super full and satisfied at the end.

Flavourless duck breast and extremely overcooked. Medium rare requested and cooked to medium-well, no pink even left. Brought to their attention and they told us it was the same thing to them. Disappointed. Escargot was pretty good.

Staff was sooo nice, felt like home ! It was my first time eating aligot, I really enjoyed it with the sausage “au couteau”. Had this delicious crème caramel as a dessert of the day ! Saumur Red wine was perfect with all these dishes !

Wonderful little bistro. Can recommend the foie gras, snails, and entrecôte. The foie is escalopes, not terrine or pate.

I don’t make it back to Paris as often as I’d like, but when I do I have to come to Bistro Mélac every time! Incredible authentic food from southern Auvergne. The Aligot is incredible with the sauce bleu. I would recommend the Mac Mélac (I know it’s a burger and you’re in France, but it is another creature entirely - so delicious). If not, get the sausage or another authentic dish. Merci aux Avergnats du Mélac!

Yelp
A local recommended this very cute little family owned restaurant in a local (non-tourist) neighborhood. Quick walk from the train. Food was great...menu offers a broad range of items, with board of specials that change daily. We enjoyed very fresh salads, fish, cheese selection and decent wine. Owners were very sweet and made sure we had an enjoyable meal.

Yelp

Yelp
I used to live not far from this place. At that time it was my fav place in this area. Love the food (especially beef) and the red wine of course. Go there, no questions.

Yelp
I was in Paris for the release of the Beaujolais Nouveau completely by accident, but the friend I was visiting said it's quite a celebration, so we should go out - and go out we did. He and his friends decided upon Melac, as it's a favorite of theirs and I now understand why. The people who own the place are lovely, and their staff are exceptionally friendly. Because of the celebration, I wasn't able to sample their food - because it's so crowded, they only serve cheese and charcuterie on this festive evening. It was very good cheese and charcuterie, to be sure, but I'd love to try their normal menu some day. It was a wonderful experience at a fantastic place!

Yelp
My husband and I first went here on our one week wedding anniversary back in April. From the table we were given (a cozy corner in the back room), to the level of service, to the food (my GOD the food!), everything was truly special! We ordered the Cote de Boeuf for two which came with a nice salad and plenty of the BEST aligot one could possibly imagine. (For those who don't know what aligot is... think the smoothest, most cheesy potato dish with the most flavorful touch of garlic that warms your throat and tummy as it goes down! Delish!) We also had a lovely bottle of Cote du Rhone (their selection is vast). We went back on our three month anniversary and the experience was just as fabulous! We will be going back once a month from here on out! (We work out for the month in between to enjoy the aligot and the amazing blue cheese sauce that comes with the Cote de Boeuf guilt-free!) We first visited in April, 2014, and have been back several times since!

Yelp
This is a real wine bar! Jacques Melac's, Bistrot a Vins, won "Le Meilleur Pot", a competition for the best wine bar of the year, in 1981. At that tiome, Jacques had a handsome, full, handlebar moustache. It has since gone grey and a bit bushy but his charm has only gotten better. He's eccentric, he's welcoming, he's generous with his advice and above all he serves wonderful wine. He grows grape vines outside of his bar in Paris and has a "vendange" every fall with a big celebration. The food he serves is good - but he serves it only to have something to go along with his wine. Located off the beaten path a bit, Bistrot a Vins is worth the trip. There are only a handful of real wine bars left in Paris and Jacques Melac is one of them. He closes in the afternoons for a few hours.

Yelp
If you are an expat, do not go here. I went here with a group of French friends and my husband (also French) for dinner one night, and was very badly served by the waitstaff. Although the cuisine is good, it is not worth paying the money to be badly treated and humiliated by your waiter. from the beginning of the evening, the waiter was rather rude with me (as soon as he heard my accent). I asked for mineral water during the main course, and the waiter wouldn't bring it to me. He scolded me for asking for water, and he said that Americans ask for too many things, and that he wouldn't bring me water. He then actually brought (tap) water to everyone at the table but me, and told me "Fuck You!". Which ended up with our group leaving early after such rude treatment. My husband was amazed at the rudeness with which the waiter had treated me. This isn't the first restaurant to treat me badly for being an expat, and it will certainly not be the last, but now I will definitely yelp/review the hell out of them on the internet! Service atroce... dommage!
