Bitra - Guesthouse

We traveled the entire Ring Road and this was our favorite guesthouse. The hosts were warm, friendly and welcoming. The rooms clean and comfortable. This was our only guesthouse with "lounge" and we enjoyed the community it offered. Best breakfast ever! Easy proximity to Selfoss and other interesting sights. Highly recommend

Excellent Hospitality Near the Golden Circle We spent 15 nights traveling the Ring Road in early September, and this hotel left a lasting, positive impression. The location is excellent, perfectly positioned for exploring the Golden Circle. What truly set this hotel apart was the exceptional hospitality. The owner and manager made us feel completely at home. We were planning a difficult trip to Landmannalaugar, so I asked the manager for advice. The next morning at breakfast, the manager showed me he had planned a route that identified all key spots conveniently on the way, with short diversions that suited our ability. This thoughtful gesture gave us immense confidence for our highland trip. Interestingly, the building itself is unique—it survived an earthquake and was once a women's prison! After long hikes, we appreciated the excellent water pressure for a hot shower, and the nutritious breakfast was wonderfully fulfilling. We were very glad we chose to stay for three nights. Highly recommend!

This is the best. The owners are so welcoming, fun and make you feel right at home. Accommodations are very comfortable and breakfast was perfect. I wish we had stayed for more than one night. We travelled the whole ring road and this was our favorite stop along the way. Selfoss is close by with great restaurants and interesting things to see and do. Highly, highly recommend.

We’re looking forward to our return! Our one night stay was just perfect, clean, and comfortable in our room and we didn’t mind sharing a bathroom. We enjoyed the multiple areas for gathering, with a scenic view, and kitchenette for a warm drink or to store food so nice. Breakfast was a beautiful spread of everything you could think of. I enjoyed interacting with staff for recommendations and etc.

We were warmly greeted upon arrival and shown to our bedroom and bath. Guesthouse Bitra is spotless and has comfortable beds. ||The breakfasts were nourishing and filling with terrific service. Staff even allowed us to dine earlier than is customary because we had an early departure for a hike!|||I loved the Icelandic music played, the cheerful lounge with drinks, and even purchased children’s books as one of the owners is an author! The kind staff even wrote a note in the book in Icelandic for my granddaughters.|||Lovely people…and a lovely place!!!!!

Great stay! We were a little nervous about the shared restrooms at first, but they were super clean. Unfortunately, we missed breakfast because we overslept, but everything else was perfect. We loved this place and highly recommend it to anyone!

Bitra Guesthouse was absolutely AMAZING! It was the best sleep on our entire trip! Our room was on the bottom floor and was large and spacious. The walls were thick (possibly made of concrete), so we didn't hear any other guests during the night. The beds were comfortable, everything was spotlessly clean, the breakfast was great, and the hosts were incredibly nice and so sweet and helpful. Each night, we looked forward to drinking wine that we brought with us in the common area and talking about our adventures from that day. I would plan future trips around being able to stay here again. It was absolutely PERFECT!
