"A Florentine Speakeasy Italy never had Prohibition (can you imagine the country going wine-free?), but this intimate bar, opened in 2017, brings a touch of that era’s speakeasy style to central Florence. Owner and veteran bartender Cristian Guitti places equal importance on taste and aesthetics, creating concoctions that both excite the palate—with a hint of smoke here, and some barrel aging there—and also do your Instagram proud. The menu is heavily inspired by '20s-era cocktails, with nods to both America and Italy, so you’ll find drinks like Old Sport (based on Wild Turkey 81 Bourbon), Coney Island (rum with popcorn, chili, dark chocolate, and more), and Aglio Olio & Peperoncino (tequila blanco with olive oil and the essential oils of orange and chili). Guitti considers this a “cocktail experience,” which means the multi-step drinks may take a while to be prepared, but you’ll have fun soaking up the retro atmosphere while waiting for them to arrive."

15 Best Bars in Florence | Condé Nast Traveler

"In Florence, the speakeasy-vintage vibe is a strong theme for craft cocktail bars—that's the case at Bitter Bar, too. What sets it apart is that every drink is a proprietary invention from the owner. Although its name might suggest a focus on, say, amaro, Bitter Bar showcases all manner of cocktails, some sweet from pineapple juice and others topped with cheesecake foam. And while you can ask for a martini, Sazerac, or Negroni and it would be made decently, you'd do much better putting yourself in owner (and bartender) Cristiano Guitti's capable hands. He's ardently creative and obsessively detail-oriented; as such, he's gained a reputation among cocktail aficionados worldwide." - Coral Sisk

The cocktails were out of this WORLD. 20/10 recommend! The owner was so kind and knowledgeable. He’s basically a chemist of cocktails! We came two nights in a row because of how delicious the drinks were. I’ve never had drinks like these. Perfectly curated and you can feel his passion in them. Go if in Florence!

This is an experience and a half!! Coolest cocktail bar, EVER!!!! Proprietor is delightfully passionate about the crafting of each beverage! So glad we chose it for our birthday celebration.

Google
Really cool spot with great cocktails! Bartender was friendly and had good recommendations. We also recieved an assortment of nuts with our drinks. A bit on the pricier side, but I think it’s worth it for the creativity of the cocktails and ambience.

The environment is nice and dark, but the cocktails are terrible we ordered four and none of them tasted good. The starting price is 20 per cup, not including free snacks. The waiter doesn't understand Italian or English. Bartender doesn’t take classic cocktails order either.

Google
This place is a must!! My cousin and I got two drinks that were custom-made that were absolutely fantastic !! Really listened to what we wanted and what we liked! Stunning place with that speakeasy vibe! The owner was the sweetest and was so much fun to talk to

Google
This was a delightful experience! Drinks were all about €20, so a bit pricey, but I truly enjoyed my experience and the vibe of this place. No food service, but were given complimentary apertivo, as well as in house made pickled veggies and olives. Bartender/owner was incredibly friendly and an excellent host. Would recommend to anyone.

Google
High quality of cocktails. Elegant&nice people working. Cozy, old fashion style interior design. Music TOP. Everything is very good but the space between the seats are too narrow and the price is high so I give 4 stars. But I’d say it’s definitely worthy.

Yelp
A great place for craft cocktails in Florence! We came here on a Tuesday evening and it was nowhere near busy. There is no menu. They just go off your preferences and make a recommendation! We got the old fashioned and a cocktail that was a mix between a Manhattan and a Sazerac. Both were delicious. And well-priced at 15 euro each. The decor was super cool! My favorite was the wall of old Campari ads. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
This place was soo good we came twice during our short stay in Florence. It has a speakeasy vibe as you have to ring the doorbell to get in. There is no cocktail menu just spirit's. You tell them what your in the mood for and they have gotten it perfect everytime. This place definitely rivals the top bars we have been to in NYC. The customer service was excellent as well as the 2 employees took time to decipher what kind of cocktail would be appropriate for what you were looking for.

Yelp
If I could go back to only one place in Florence, it would be Bitter Bar!!! This spot has everything... the ambiance, the delicious drinks, and AMAZING service. Mehran is the highlight of my trip every time I come to Florence, and I am truly grateful to have found Bitter Bar. Whether you are looking for a quick drink or a full night of fun, Bitter Bar is the place!!

Yelp
Not only the best cocktail/speakeasy bar in Florence, but possibly the best in the EU! Wonderful environment, service is top notch, and unique drinks individually paired to your preferences!

Yelp
My friend and I came here for drinks on a Friday night. We loved the vibes (speakeasy interior with nice Cuban Trova music and dim lighting). The only bartender was very friendly and accommodating. My friend ordered the Inka Cola while I ordered a drink whose name I cannot remember (but the ingredients included rum, pineapple juice, egg whites, and something anchovy). We both loved our drinks! As for my drink, I could not taste anything alcoholic, but I could definitely feel it (a dangerous combination)! It was creamier (was reminiscent of Pisco Sour for me) and so tasty! Good for people who don't like bitter drinks. The Inka Cola would best be described as crisp and fresh. I could taste the alcohol, but it was still tasty. Although the drinks are a bit pricy (12-14€), most bars typically are. I would say it is worth it to try since the drinks are tasty and the ambiance is intimate and neat!

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. Highly recommend checking it out. The owner is super friendly and really knows cocktails.

Yelp
Very cute speakeasy. I almost don't want to write a review so I can keep it a hidden gem - but the drinks were so good I figure I should recommend. It was awesome for an after-dinner drink! Our bartender was lovely and made drinks based off me and my boyfriend's preferences. They were delicious and beautifully crafted. If you are in Florence and looking for a cool place to grab a cocktails - this 1920's prohibition style bar should be your spot.

Yelp
This was an exceptionally unique experience in Florence. The bar is inspired by the concept of the prohibition era speakeasy and captures all of its trappings from the wardrobe to the locked door that you have to be "allowed" into. The menu consists of inventive cocktails that really embody mixology as an art. These aren't just drinks with randomly combined ingredients. They are constructed to achieve a balance of flavors and expansive taste profiles. A particular standout was the Old Sport which is a smoked whiskey cocktail in the old fashioned family. This is worth a stop if you're in Florence and want to see what the next generation of Italian cocktail looks like. I can also wholeheartedly recommend the Coney Island. The service was also excellent. The staff was very attentive, professional, and, above all, knowledgeable about their craft.

Yelp
Great spot in Florence! My wife and I were in the area recently, and we decided to check out Bitter Bar since we walked by it everyday. They specialize in mixology, which the owner and staff feel they can tap into that market. Come to think of it, we enjoyed a lot of wines and local beers in Italy, but there was little to no emphasis on cocktails. Their drinks were super creative and well made. We could tell the owner puts a lot of hard work into his carefully crafted drinks. Their speakeasy environment makes it extra special. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Nice bar with a great atmosphere. We got some drinks that didn't fulfill what I was wanting but I had to go so I left with that experience. The bartender was helpful and the place was packed so get there early! And ring the doorbell because the door is locked.... they have to let you in

Yelp
If you are looking for a speakeasy in Italy, this is the place to come! Classic cocktails with a twist, for the better!Smoking the mint and carefully crafting the perfect aroma will make the cocktail come alive. A must try if you are by the Duomo!

Yelp
AMAZING EXPERIENCE! A must for Florence - all the drinks were made with great care! Definitely the coolest bar/speakeasy I've been to. Their spring break was delicious for those with a sweet tooth, while their green card was fantastic for those with a more refined palate. They also had a secret recipe old fashion which can knock your socks off. It was hard leaving this place with their exceptional atmosphere - old music was playing and the decor made it feel like I stepped into a different decade! Be sure to ring the bell before entering because the door will be locked, but come anytime from 8pm-2am and you will be served some of the greatest drinks of your life!

Yelp
Expensive mediocre drinks. A whole ancient city to explore, why re-invent the wheel while breaking the bank? Save your money and have a more authentic experience.

Yelp
Bitter Bar stands heads above other speakeasy-style cocktail bars in Florence and easily competes with the best in NY and in London. The decor, the music, and obviously the drinks... all top notch! If you love a jazzy, classic vibe look no further. Very original but not pretentious cocktails, and non-alcoholic ones too. I let the bartender surprise me, he asked a few questions about my taste, and then hit the nail on the head by creating one of my favorites with a very unexpected twist. Yes there is a buzzer, and yes sometimes people wait a few minutes... in this case it's because the staff genuinely try to give everyone a great, unrushed experience once inside. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
A hidden gem in Florence. Your host is a jazz trumpeter and master mixologist. The result is a true speakeasy atmosphere. The menu of complex drinks, early Jazz recordings and comfortable seating makes for a great experience. Drinks are a bit pricy but I've got no complaints. Definitely stop by.

Yelp
The bartender/owner is phenomenal! The way he is able to transform alcohol into tasty and classy cocktails is amazing. When going to Bitter Bar you feel as if you are in an exclusive 1920's bar. I recommend this place if you like tasty and classy drinks! Best bar I've been to hands down.

Yelp
I've been to the highest rated cocktail bars in Manhattan, London, Paris, San Francisco, Berlin, Portland, Athens and on and on and this tiny little gem hidden in touristy Florence that almost nobody in the cocktail world has heard of deserves so much praise. The room is small but singularly charming as is the service. The cocktails are ambitious but most of them deliver from an odd but delicious combo of Pisco, mustard, and biscotti to a classic Martini subtlety infused with lobster yes lobster... bitter bar is all around world-class. You will feel like you're at a cocktail party in someone's intimate, immaculate living room from 70 years ago only with much better drinks.

Ron H.

Yelp
Style over substance! Pretty space - nice decor and detail but COCKTAILS TERRIBLE! Presented well, but the mix completely missed the mark!Espresso martini - not available! brandy alexander - not available! cosmopolitan - lemon juice prevailed! Pretty glasses though ... they need to get a recipe book!?

Ryan G.

Yelp
I was here yesterday with my girlfriend, really amazing place in the style of 20s. I drank a fantastic "brownie breakfast" and my girlfriend a delicious cosmopolitan. I really recommend this place.
