10 Best Coffee Shops in Puerto Rico | Condé Nast Traveler

"Many people who visit Culebra crave a castaway experience, but at the same time they're grateful for conveniences such as Blac Flamingo Coffee, a colorful café and a true “Paradise Found” for writer-types. You’ll notice that most of the clientele here has a book in-hand. Creativity is celebrated in every corner of the space, especially on the walls, where guests are encouraged to doodle and scribble positive messages." - Kathleen Squires

High quality coffee. Guava baklava was delicious. Amazing service. 100% recommended. We will be back. Ariel was so friendly and knowledgeable about the coffee. Thank you!

Google
Wish I snapped some pics of our food and drink because they were as gorgeous as they were tasty. To eat, I got the avocado toast and my partner got a Black Forest bagel. I own a Smoothies shop back home and appreciate immensely a cafe that executes a simple menu with such intention. All the little attentions to detail in ingredient choice and presentation made it feel curated and special. To drink I had an espresso tonic and my partner had the Caribbean latte. Mine, which had a touch of lime, was surprisingly refreshing and unique. His was made with coconut oil and was playful but simple, and is the drink I’d go back for again and again (if we didn’t live 1600 miles away). I appreciated how engaging and proud the owner was, not to mention how beautifully designed the space was.

Everything was great. Awesome customer service, the coffee was way out of this world, amazing specialty coffee. The place is beautiful, will visit again today!

Google
An absolute gem of Culebra. Everyone is super friendly, and the food is incredible! The owner is one of the nicest people I have ever met while solo traveling- we had a long chat about the island, and he even moved my cart after it was parked somewhere I'd get a ticket 😂

Google
I want to leave a review of the Blac Flamingo coffee shop, we are from Boston, first time visiting Culebra Island, the best place to have breakfast, caring staff, delicious food and amazing coffee, you are the best on this island, keep it up

Google
A Breakfast Gem in Culebra Everything was so fresh and natural! Today, my best friend and I enjoyed avocado toast and French toast, and both were absolutely incredible. The flavors were vibrant, and the owner’s kindness made the experience even better. A perfect start to the day in paradise!

Google

Google
The best breakfast in Culebra. We went with my husband and everything was extremely delicious, the oat was delicious, yogurt, toast and sandwich exquisite and the coffee just amazing. The customer service was the best and a gorgeous new location. thanks guys for everything. We loved The island and your food

Yelp
Great coffee and great conversations! Love this eclectic coffee shop in culebra. Highly recommend for a quick snack and well made coffee. It's always justifiably crowded, so don't be in a rush.

Yelp
We happened upon this place and decided to stop in. Best coffee (oatmilk latte) I've had in a long time. Thanks for the effort in maintaining your lovely establishment!

Yelp
Really good! -- Food, service, atmosphere were all perfect. The coffee/espresso had nice flavor and was crafted well. Definitely talented baristas here. Same with the food. I got a really generous portion with the egg/avocado toast. It was really good. Better than most places that make this sort of thing on the mainland. Everything we ordered was great. I feel like they took care in the presentation, taste, and serving size. The outside dining areas are pretty cool too. Swings are attached to the roof and you get "swing chairs" next to the tables. Also, very nicely decorated throughout. Loved all the signatures and notes on the walls (exterior and interior). Highly recommended if you are in Culebra and want a good coffee or breakfast.

Trip to Culebra, found this cute coffee shop. Large selection of coffees to choose from. Avocado toast was amazing. The service was great.

Yelp
The last couple of times we've been to Culebra we've been unable to make it back here. Finally, we got a chance. We came early on Saturday. We arrived shortly before 8. They were only serving coffee and pastries. At 8 they'd start with breakfast. The reason was they were prepping. I had a latte and my wife a cappuccino while we waited. We sat outside. They made some changes for the better. The interior is smaller but they added more tables outside. And instead of having the outdoor seating in front of the restaurant, it is on the side. They also added some swings and now the exterior has a roof. I like these changes. I really liked what they did with the bike and cinder blocks and all the plants. For breakfast, I went with the breakfast tacos. The order comes with two tacos and a side of salsa verde. The tacos were very good. The scrambled eggs were perfects. I would have liked the salsa to provide a nice little kick to it, but I didn't find it spicy. Still, I would order the breakfast tacos again. My wife had the avocado toast and my son had the French toast. Of course, they were tasty. The guac on the avocado toast was very good, fresh. To top it all off, the service was friendly. Ariel, one of the owners, approached each table to chat with customers. Nice guy. It took us a while to return, but I was reminded of why this is not only Culebra's best breakfast joint, but also one of Culebra's best restaurants.

Yelp
A must visit spot! Fuimos a culebra por un día y encontramos este lugar que está buenisimo! Agarramos el Blac forest bagel, avocado toast, French toast y los tacos y todo estaba super rico. Las limonadas y cafés también están muy buenos! Recomendado 100%. Y el dueño del lugar super amable!

Yelp
Got there at 9:40am on a Saturday and there was a long line, which we were okay with because we thought it would move relatively quick. We were standing in line for one and a half hours and got our coffee orders first. Food only came out at 11:40am, which is crazy. Not much seating for the demand, and we had to eat standing outside. We got the cold brew, a flat white, avocado toast and French toast. Coffee is delicious and food was great too! But the not worth the wait. Staff was nice but not sure why they were sooo slow with the food order.
google avatar

Gus L.

Yelp
Really dug this place and vibe. The french toast and croissants were great, and the coffee was awesome. Had ice lattes twice - and they were great each time. It's a popular spot and one of a few places (only?) to get coffee like this on island, so don't be surprised by a line or small wait time to get your food/drinks, but it's well worth the wait. You could even use that time to pet a few of the many cats roaming the streets of Culebra!

Yelp
Bright, lively coffeeshop with a splattering of greenery. Colorful drawings from guests cover every inch of the walls, giving the space a playful feel. Before we left, we couldn't resist leaving our own mark on the walls. Super grateful to have found iced coffee on Culebra! The coffee itself is more on the acidic side - not necessarily bad, just different. The pastries they offer are a nice accompaniment, especially the almond croissant. Def worth the stop before a day of adventuring on the island!

Yelp
Was referred to this place but if I would have known the wait was so long, I would have went else where. The food was amazing but we had to wait about an hour+ which was not what we were expecting. Once you place your order, the food comes pretty quick but it's the wait to order that takes forever. I didn't noticed the sign on the door that said if you're in a hurry go somewhere else so watch out for that. Other than the wait, this place was pretty cool, staff was great, and food was good. If there is no line, I would go back for sure.

Yelp
We attempted to do Blac Flamingo multiple times over two weeks in culebra. Unfortunately more often than not it was closed, not much in the way of signage about how how long or when they might reopen. I'm even on their FB page, no updates there either. I got avocado toast once which was wonderful. next time of the 4 menu options two were unavailable. Coffee was great, but left hungry.

Yelp
Amazing food stellar coffee! Perfect for a quick snack and a cortado. Very friendly staff and the swings outside were so fun.

Yelp
Excellent customer service, cute little spot with writing on the walls for whoever wants to leave their mark. It was about a two hour wait (they're one of a few that are open early morning). The matcha was good-it wasn't sweet and they had almond milk as an option which I appreciated. Not everything was available on the menu so abruptly I had to change my mind but I wasn't disappointed. At the register they had baklava (pistachio and guava) I tried them both. The guava was a little too sweet for me and they had a lot of cinnamon. Probably would have pair better with a coffee. The owner is their barista and makes it a point to talk to as many customers. He's really kind.

Yelp
Great coffee shop. All fresh menu items. Highly recommend. Not a lot of menu items but was prefect for us. Everything was great the food and staff

Yelp
This coffee shop is a must in the island. It's a close walk from the ferry. There's also a line, but I would make it again! The coffee was simple I'd say, but very good. I had the mocha latte. The avocado toast was delicious and probably the best one I've ever had. I thought it would be simple, but it was fulllll of avocado. Just delicious!

Piper K.

Yelp
The food was very fresh and tasty. The new location has an overall airy bohemian vibe that creates an over all amazing ambiance. Would recommend the watermelon juice and fresh pastries.

Yelp
BEST ON THE ISLAND! MUST TRY Okay WOW... everything here is 10/10. Food, drinks, customer service and vibes! What I ordered: The most yummy filling savory avocado toast! With the tastiest slice of bacon on top Breakfast tacos comes with two servings with chunks of bacon mixed in... Yogurt parfait pictures above FOOD IS COOKED TO PERFECTION AND FRESH! Great prices! Cappuccino! Smoothest coffee I've had in a while. Ginger tumeric limón juice 10/10.. I'm so happy I found this place! My belly is full my heart is full!

Yelp
One of our favorite spots to come visit in Culebra. Been to the island 3 times now and always make it a point to come here for coffee, cool environment and amazing food/coffee. Happy to come back -Aaron "judge"

Yelp
The best option for breakfast in Culebra. Delicious coffee. Friendly service. Unfortunately on our last visit to Culebra they were closed on Thursday when they should have been open ( at least according to Business hours posted on Yelp). It was disappointing as we were all looking forward to eating here again. Still love this place. Next time.

Yelp
Puerto Rico seems to love it's scrambled eggs with turkey and so do I! This is the second restaurant that I saw in PR that offers this combination, which I regularly make at home but never see on the menu in California. To make it even better, the scrambled eggs are paired with French toast topped with fresh fruit. I love sweet and savory breakfast combinations and rarely see them together. The portion size, one piece of French toast plus the eggs, was perfect for breakfast and I left neither stuffed nor hungry. I also ordered a cup of hot tea to get some caffeine. I'm not a fan of coffee and usually go for chai but it wasn't an option here. My vegetarian boyfriend ordered a breakfast sandwich without meat. The cafe is small but what isn't on a tiny island. There were a few tables indoors and outdoors though. If I ever go back to Culebra, hopefully I'll be able to visit this spot again!
google avatar

Krystina W.

Yelp
Every time I am visiting the island I make sure to stop by Blac Flamingo for breakfast. There are other coffee/breakfast joints in Culebra, and in my opinion this is the best one. The owners and staff are very welcoming/friendly. Their drinks are incredible and their food menu is equally delicious. Also, the shop is so cute! They allowed patrons to write on their walls but it all blends really well with their overall style. This spot is very popular so you'll always see people here, and sometimes a line when they're open during the week.

Joel F.

Yelp
If you want to start a day with a delicious breakfast and comfy ambiance in Culebra this is the place to be. The food and coffee are delicious. Excellent breakfast experience.

Yelp
Best coffee and breakfast restaurant in Culebra, great ambiance, superb coffee, and the food we ate and the plates that passed by us looked very fresh and appetizing! Would highly recommend!
google avatar

Maci A.

Yelp
The owner is wonderful! Not only is he kind and ambitiously, but he truly cares about the business and food/coffee. We are from Los Angeles so we really appreciate good coffee. Would definitely recommend!!!!! Salud

Alexandre B.

Yelp
Less than 10 customers in line: one hour to get two coffees. There was really enough staff so it feels there's something they need to figure out.
google avatar

Kayla-Marie F.

Yelp
Timely service, amazing coffee and great food. Shame I can't get this place back home in NYC! Looking forward to an Iced Shakerato or coffee tonic on my next visit.

L. L.

Yelp
45 min for coffee and food, we are still waiting. Ambience may be great but 45 min to have some iced drinks made isn't acceptable.

Margaret M.

Yelp
Nice people but be prepared to wait over an hour close to two so if you don't want to literally waste your vacation away go somewhere else.
google avatar

Guillermo C.

Yelp
Awesome people, delicius food and coffe. You should not leave the island without having breakfast there.
google avatar

Limari C.

Yelp
Such a great spot! The coffee was rich and bold. Made with so much love! The french toasts were bomb and the service superb. Loved the conversation starters from the really cool dude behind the register and the walls. We even left a memory there! Only suggestion is to set whipped cream and fruits separately from the french toasts so they don't lose their heat quickly. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Alisson R.

Yelp
Coffee is excellent and perfect. We stuck with cappuccinos and foam was just right. The fruit and granola bowls are fresh and a healthy choice on the island. The breakfast tacos were delicious as well, lots of scrambled eggs when fresh salsa to go on top. We returned for lunch and the chicken salad was fresh and delicious and my husband had the chicken sandwich with chips. We will be back!
google avatar

Vivian U.

Yelp
We went here early every morning for coffee and a light breakfast and it was one of the best ways to get the day started on this island. Great service, coffee, and aesthetics! It looks like the shop has been remodeling and it's really cute and picture worthy for those that like to explore cute coffee shops. Couches and tables inside with outdoor seating and swings outside. People start lining up for coffee at 7:30am, breakfast starts at 8:00am.
google avatar

Candy R.

Yelp
Everything delicious we had the avocado toast the best I ever had!! And also a latte love the vibe of this place!!
google avatar

B M.

Yelp
Was excited to try this place due to reviews. Days and days went by and it was closed. Like most things on the island. The coffee was good but they were out of almost everything. I felt bad for a customer that ordered and 10 min later they walk up to him and told him an alternative and made him pay an extra amount. Also, they don't prep in advance for breakfast it seems and only take breakfast orders at 8 even though they open at 7:30. Staff was nice but I feel like they are understaffed and things could be more streamlined.
google avatar

Paul F.

Yelp
The usual coffee and café con leche at the local panadería wasn't satisfying my craving for a good espresso drink. My friend brought us to this place and it was a great solution for my craving. This is a quaint little coffee shop with a wonderful staff and great coffee. The walls are covered in customer written quotes and add a uniqueness to this place that I'll certainly remember. I can't speak for the food items since we didn't order any but the mochas we ordered were excellent. It wasn't over-sweet and the espresso was not masked by the mocha flavor. I definitely recommend this place for the mocha alone. Good stuff here.
google avatar

Jose R.

Yelp
A nice place indeed, unfortunately the pandemic has caused some issues with the waiting time, understandable. Ordered an americano to go and some burritos they were good fresh eggs and good bacon. There was a menu of pastries that they did impressed me, unfortunately the diet an allergies did not allowed me to touch them. The service was excellent! Recommended the place however or get there early or come with patience, there are not too many good places for coffee and early breakfast on Sunday in Culebra.
google avatar

Spencer Z.

Yelp
Very friendly. Busy and food takes a while as there are few staff. Ginger limeade was excellent. So was the avacado toast.
google avatar

Andrea D.

Yelp
The matcha latte is not sweetened so make sure to ask for that if you want it! The food was outstanding. I had the avocado toast and it was delicious!

Danielle S.

Yelp
Amazing food, coffee, ambience and customer service from the owner himself. I'll be missing the delicious avocado toast for a while after returning home!
google avatar

Alfonso D.

Yelp
The best coffee in Culebra, very high quality products amd great presentation on plates. Very frequently visited by locals and tourists. It's close to town amd worth a visit
google avatar

Mat H.

Yelp
Best breakfast and coffee on Culebra. The owner is super nice and friendly, the atmosphere is clean and modern, and the quality is top tier for food and coffee. We stayed on Culebra for 5 nights and we got iced lattes here every morning and breakfast a few times. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Jenny M.

Yelp
Amazing place for breakfast and coffee! Everyone was very nice and helpful! The line was a little long but anything good is worth the wait! I came in with my husband and my two kids this morning and while I waited in line to order my food he went around the corner and took the kids to this awesome park! They don't accept credit cards only debit/venmo or cash. I paid through venmo and it was super fast and easy. The only thing I'm sad about is that I won't get to go there again because we already left. I wish I would've found out about this coffee shop before. Loved it and will be back.
google avatar

Kayla V.

Yelp
the food was so delicious and the ambiance/ environment is perfect! the staff is also very friendly! would definitely recommend for others and will come again when we're back here on the island.
google avatar

Cody T.

Yelp
Love it. Amazing little place near our air bnb. We stopped here for a quick breakfast since they only open for few hours. Not so quick because this place is a hit and a lot of tourist are swarmed in here. Had to wait almost 35 mins for breakfast. I hate waiting for breakfast but this one is ok since I'm on a vacation plus it was worth the wait. Coffee was amazing the breakfast meal was amazing too. I forgot the name of it but it's in the pics. My wife orders the peanut butter toast with apple. I thought it was a weird combination but now I'm making it at home here. Lol. Definitely a must see spot.
google avatar

Clara M.

Yelp
Very trendy and cool place. Food was delicious and they have matcha latte and other espresso drinks. Around the corner of Carlos Jeep, so very convenient.
google avatar

Ana Beatriz S.

Yelp
Everything in this place is delicious. It has a couple of tables available. The staff is very nice and welcoming. I also had a croissant topped with almonds which was the best croissant I've had and also a mocha latte which was very delicious as well and aesthetically appealing. 100% recommended.

sara d.

Yelp
Loved this small family business. Best coffee in Culebra for sure. All lattes are small in Puerto Rico, but they were really good.
