Yelp
I busted everywhere it is everywhere. I am so satisfied. I got the rib plate with a side of Mac n cheese and a baked potato. I enjoyed everything so much maybe a little too much.

Yelp
This is a day after the fact. I was with five friends, so a total of six. We met for breakfast at 9:00 a.m. we had a great time, and food was perfect (granted, it is not fine dining and doesn't claim to be). But the eggs, potatoes and meats were absolutely perfect. I will return. The thing that made me scratch my head was a man while we were exiting had a firearm on his hip. This place is near a major Reno Casino. For three years, I lived just across the street. We never thought we were in a bad neighborhood. I won't judge the patron for open carry, but I don't know why. Please go inside and enjoy your meal.

Yelp
My sister and I had a craving for a good home-cooked meal so we decided to visit Black Bear. I realized it had been too long since we visited and I was grateful we picked this place for brunch. It is very family-friendly and has a fun rustic decor. And a plethora of Black Bears. The food here is always so comforting and the coffee is pretty good for a restaurant. Our server was attentive and so sweet. Our food came out quickly and it was all delicious. My favorite item to get is the Parmesan Sourdough Burger. It's tangy and seasoned well. My sister got the two egg breakfast and it was cooked to order and savory. She opted for the biscuit, which is HUGE. We will most definitely be dining here again :)

Yelp
Come prepared to eat ! Big portions. My steak and eggs were good, The rest looked good too . Just the place for chicken and waffles, and fluffy biscuits. Giant menu, but NO actual vegan options. Not one. greatly limits our potential visits due to a vegan in our party . I don't think restaurant owners get this. To their credit they tried to cobble together a vegan offering but it was disappointing. Please add at least a few options and we will be back often !! Very busy but friendly and attentive server. Glad Reno has a solid diner option.

Yelp
My sister's family and I went to Black Bear Diner for dinner Friday night. The restaurant was fairly busy when we walked into but the servers were able to find a table for our 5-person party. Our server, Jose, appeared almost immediately and took our drink order and returned with our drinks just as quickly. He took and dropped off our food just as efficiently and pretty soon our entire was enjoying our meal. The food was tasty and each of us ate all the food with relish. Overall, we had a positive dining experience with good food and great service

Yelp
We've gone there multiple times as a family . Today my husband and I went for breakfast . Seated fast , friendly staff , food came quick ... we both ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast with eggs, hash browns , sour dough and a pancake . It was horrible chicken friend steak tasted like a frozen meal , hash brown's were way too crunchy and yet way undercooked and hard potatoes, egg whites were runny and slimy , toast was burnt and the pancake tasted like onion powder and flour . We both only ate a few bites and asked for the check . Won't go back there sad as our family loves diners

Yelp
We have not been here in some time and decided to try it on a Saturday because the place we went to was super busy and a very long wait. So glad we came here as we got right in even though they were busy. Server came right away to take our order. I got a Veggie Scramble and my husband got the Chili Cheese Omelet. They have very large plates and the mention in their write-up that they use big plates so that they can serve enough food so that customers don't go home hungry. I saw several plates full of food yet our meal was a smaller size and did not fill the plate. If not for the grits that came with it, I may have not been full. Instead of the huge biscuit, I got toast. I ordered Sourdough but got white bread. I don't eat plain white bread and Sourdough is a once-in-a-while treat for me. The server was pushing that it must be the right bread until I told him to just bring out some wheat. The slices were really small. The food tasted good and I was quite happy that when asked the server brought out milk and honey for the grits. The place was noisy with people talking over each other but it was better than some of the loud music in other restaurants. We will give them another try on a day during the week. I was happy with the menu offerings and the seats were comfortable.

Yelp
Sometimes ya just get lucky. I'm working a tour from Central Cal, Reno / Tahoe sights snd gaming. So took shuttle out top fuel, ice and find me a breakfast burrito. Well being frustrated I whipped a U turn in this parking lot and what did I see? those great bears. Hello Black Bear Diner...my morning is iff to great start. Denver Omelet, fruit no potatoes and an English muffin. There's no skimping on the ingredients here, fresh, and truly assorted peppers, plenty of ham and cheese. The coffee was hot and my cup was never empty. The service excellent and food was super fast out of the kitchen. and that being said I need to say so long see you on the road. Foodguy-Martin

Yelp
Brunch with my daughter and close friend. Parking was plentiful. We were told it would be a 25-minute wait but more like 15 mins. Plenty of seating for us and other guests waiting for a table. Servers and hostess were great. Attentive, taking time to acknowledge guests, while doing other tasks like cashiering and taking guests to their seats. Place was busy but not crowded. Very homey, welcoming, and bear-y :) our server was very helpful and got our orders. My coffee cup was never empty :) I got the breakfast club and it was yummilicious! The bread was toasted perfectly, where it was crispy on the outside and soft and airy on the inside. The hashbrowns had the nice crispy top. my friend finished her avocado toast and my daughter loved her pancakes...and if you ask her, this is her favorite restaurant in all of Reno :) she was the one who recommended this place.

Yelp
Came here for a nice hot cup of coffee today. It was our first time to a Black Bear restaurant. Service was good and ambiance nice and quite lovely.

Yelp
Food was large and filling. Taste was okay. We had a few different items the biscuits and gravy were pretty good. Pancakes were ok in flavor but fell apart and kinda dry. They absorbed the small amount of syrup instantly. On the service side. While after ordering the food service was quick but we got our only drink refill as they brought us our check. Empty glasses is one of my grading scales and the fact we did not get offered refills till we were done and ask g for Togo boxes was definitely a mark against the service. Place was busy lots of families and that makes sense for the type of restaurant. But kids running around and screaming did kinda suck. I was with my children and behaved. Can't hold that against the restaurant but if you looking for a quiet place not it if looking for a place to bring kids this is a good spot.

Yelp
Black Bear Diner in Reno never disappoints, serving up massive portions that are almost prehistoric in size! The Pot Roast is always a standout, tender and flavorful. The diner maintains that warm, small-town vibe no matter where you are, and the staff makes you feel right at home. If you haven't had the chance to experience Black Bear yet, now's the time!

Yelp
Went early in the morning this time and loved it! The open seating is fantastic when you arrive early. The food was excellent--I had the chicken egg scramble with chicken sausage. I do wish they offered turkey bacon or beef sausage, though. The pancakes were absolutely delicious, I would come back just for the pancakes alone. Our waiter was very attentive, quickly noticing when we needed coffee refills. There's nothing like the classic breakfast café vibe in the morning! I also love their newspaper-style menus.

Yelp
We had just flew in from out of state and all wanted breakfast. We came to eat here, and some of us have been to Black Bear Diner before while some of the others haven't even heard of the place before. I've been a few times before to another location in NW WA. I got the Chorizo Breakfast Burrito and my bf got some special they had; it was like a French toast sandwich. Our friends all mostly got the Chicken Fried Steak. Our breakfast was good; we were all stuffed. Service was great.

Yelp
8/21/23 Late brekky with the wife . Was seated very quickly . Service was excellent, our Server Liz was amazing and attentive. Your typical Diner / somewhat dimly lit and Bear decor everywhere of course. The food was delicious and Hot coming out. They were a little busier but let us know too and we were in no rush. I order the Joel's Hobo Omelette and was delicious. Spinach, sausage, bacon, diced onions basically the works and it was perfect with hashbrowns and some sourdough toast. My wife had couple of pancakes and eggs and hashbrowns sausage and enjoyed it as well. This is good spot to come to. Always friendly and always clean . Good food . Enjoy

Yelp
We went on a Friday at 1030 a.m., and it was packed! The wait wasn't too bad, about 15 min. I ordered the corned beef, which is my normal breakfast order. The meat was pretty chewy and tasteless. Hash browns were good. The Softball sized biscuit was perfection. Our server was so wonderful. She made my day. The spicy breakfast sausage patty that my boyfriend had was tasty, and I will certainly order that on my next visit. By the way, we both ordered our eggs over medium, and they came out perfectly cooked

Yelp
Black Bear Diner continues to be the go-to for homestyle comfort food. The chicken fried steak is one of the best around and if you're really hungry, you gotta go for the Bigfoot! A beastly 10oz chicken fried steak with 3 eggs and your choice of potatoes and 2 massive biscuits. A challenge for even the largest of appetites! My wife almost always orders the Pot Roast and it never disappoints. The restaurant always has that small town neighborly vibe no matter the location. The staff always treats you like an old family friend. You always get more than expected on your plate. There's a reason Black Bear Diners continue to pop up all over the country and it's not just because of the fresh in house made oversized bear claws, which are also epic. If you haven't experienced Black Bear then it is time. A good starting point on the menu has to be the blackberry stuffed french toast that is made from their incredible bear claws.

Yelp
Service was slow each time we've been, only reason for not achieving five stars. The portions are large and we have not had anything that was not tasty. The ambiance is relaxed with a cozy in the woods vibe.

Yelp
Great pancakes and baked goods; breakfasts are hearty & delicious. Also cute country kitsch merch, with super friendly staff, but that wait packed or empty is murder.

Yelp
We loved our quick stop here at this Black Bear Diner. Early morning breakfast stop and it was well worth it. Portions a plenty, fantastic service and all that in good company. The place was very clean and hosts a large gift shop area for all sorts of goodies to take home. The entry way/check in has a counter with a cooler full of mini pies to go. Everything about this place made us comfortable and food enjoyable. A+ service!

Yelp
Standard fare was ok. Bathrooms dirty. My husband and I had eggs. I requested marble rye bread toast.

Yelp
The feel is absolutely leaning toward old fashioned and is very quaint inside, lots of bear related memorabilia and nik-naks. The draw is towards the older crowd or family gatherings to be sure. Plenty of window seating and a souvenir shop up front next to a check out with pies up for sale. The service has been hit more miss since covid, they've been hard pressed to hire what feels like enough staff to deal with how popular they are. They have always been pretty friendly though even with being so busy. I'm currently doing the Keto diet which is inbetween a vegetarian diet and an all out meat diet and it's a hard balance to find, black bear is not suited for those with need of a large specialy diet and its a bit of a struggle when asking to substitute certain foods or add on other items and it caused some confusion the last couple times I've dined in. Also did not get the add on I asked for but I assume it was due to just the busy lunch rush. The food its self came out delicious and the steak was superbly done at a medium rare leaning towards rare which is my preference and there was a lot of it which is rare for places offering steak. All in all I highly recommend BB, they've got the food to seal the deal.

Yelp
I came here with my coworkers after work because Black Bear opens early. They were extremely busy when we entered at 7:30am, but we were quickly seated and given menus. I love their menus which looks like newspapers! The servers got out drink orders quickly and the food did not take too long. I ordered the Ham and Cheese Omelette and it was DELICIOUS! It was SOO cheesy which I loved! I wish the portion was larger because I was not satisfied when I was finished. I wish there was more haha. It came with a side of biscuits and hash browns and they were average. I also ordered something to-go and the staff was able to get that order ready in a timely manner. The decorations inside the diner fits well with the aesthetics they are going for and with the customers they get too. Black Bear Diner is one of my favorite breakfast places to go to!

Yelp
Yep...the food & service was really like that! I have nothing but high praise for BBD Reno. We were visiting all the way from CA. Got a lil tired of hotel food & prices so we ventured it into the city. Decided to stop at Black Bear Diner and we are so glad we did. Whoever's reading this if ur in the area and want a good meal, please stop here. Shout out our server Izzybel for the great service. 5 starz

Yelp
I've come here a few times now & I've been surprised with how enjoyable it is. First of all, i love the feel of the inside, lots of wood & nice decor makes you feel at home. The service is always quick and the servers are friendly. The food is good, not great. I like the big portions and the variety of options. They do staples well. Good sandwiches, good burgers, good eggs. Everything may need a bit more seasoning & the options are simple, but overall, the prices are good for good food. The Reuben and the pancakes are my favorite I've tried.

Yelp
It was good and good portion, but bit pricey Hostess was very charming Very busy on Sundays Not bad to sit and eat

Yelp
Huge portions ! The island breakfast tacos are amazing! And at an affordable price! My waitress went above and beyond to ensure I had everything I needed! The mellow music and even the busy atmosphere was enjoyable!

Yelp
I have been here a few times they offer lots of good menu options and good prices. The service is fast and the environment is awesome, the decor is nice and makes it feel like your in a cabin. The staff is also very friendly too keep your coffee cup full!

Yelp
My fourteen year old daughter likes Black Bear Diner, we discovered this one was just a five minute five away from our hotel room. Seated immediately, server was personable and not "reading from a script". Food portions were very impressive, so much so that I need a to-go container, and that never happens.
google avatar

Yelp
The restaurant was clean. Our server, Marilee, was very friendly and attentive. My friend had food allergies, and Merilee was very accommodating. The food was excellent. This is a chain restaurant with a local feel. I highly recommend you give it a try.

Yelp
Blackbird diner is a pretty good place to go to. It's nice that they serve breakfast all day. I went around 11 and it was a little crowded but they seated me pretty quickly. It was a very friendly atmosphere. The staff was great. They always checked on me to see if I was OK or needed anything else, the food was good. I got the chicken fried steak breakfast portions so don't be afraid of leaving hungry.

Yelp
Hearty BIG breakfast, fast service, veryyy busy location so plan accordingly if coming on the weekend. We were seated immediately as the wait was 40+ minutes unless we were okay with dining at the counter - not a problem...so we thought...a guest seated there was causing a ruckus with the staff but as I say that has nothing to do with our dining experience so moving on. We ordered our drinks: hot herbal tea for moi and coffee for the hubby Breakfast of choice for moi: Cinnamon Roll French Toast (1460 cals.) plus 2 eggs over medium and sausage patty ~ yummilicious goodness!! For the hubby: Corned Beef Hash (280 cals.) plus 2 over medium eggs, potatoes and biscuit ~ yummyy!! As much as I would like to say the staff was attentive, they were a bit preoccupied by the guest next to us but again that didn't really matter to us as our hot water && coffee refills were stayed on top of due to us being on the counter. Portions were MORE than our fair share as we probably could have shared a plate easily. This isn't really our breakfast diner of choice but it was close-by /walking distance to the car detailing place our vehicle was at for 4 hours so hungry grumbling tummies can't be choosey.

Yelp
Love Dining in here but cannot get them to answer the phone for a pickup order. Called three different times and no one would answer ! Very unfortunate.

Brennan C.

Yelp
Went for breakfast. Service was slow and very poor. The food was not seasoned at all and so severely overcooked it was next to inedible, could not even eat most of it. Absolutely a waste of money.
google avatar

Yelp
Black Bear is always one of the best places for breakfast, or in my case, breakfast for dinner! I think it's called Black Bear Diner because their portions are big enough to feed a black bear! Every time I eat here I always bring home delicious leftovers. The service was very nice and attentive as well. The waitress came over frequently to ask if we were doing good and to refill our drinks! It's always a nice place to go to especially because it never gets too loud and rambunctious, mostly quiet/average noise levels. Can't wait to go again!

Yelp
We had Saint patch day there. It was awesome. My wife is just thrilled with it, she wants to go back for turkey. Obviously she does not have any taste We had turkey day there. The only thing you can describe it was awful noticed oh yeah, they run out of the turkey stuffing when we were there we had to have some therapy well we should do with the potatoes were not real potatoes there a instant potatoes and turkey was slated. I could come out of a roast , plus it did not have any taste of tile I asked for one so we only have $116 a bottle we don't know what it is though but it's really good ha ha ha so we had a salad with the turkey it was served and then one minute later the turkey was served in a fashion you can I bully yougo there again no no no if my wife says go there let's go there. I said you got a loan. Thank you that's all I got.
google avatar

Ivana S.

Yelp
Holy moly the portions are HUGE! You could split a meal between three people that is how big the portions are. Our table ordered the big breakfast plate and Reuben. It was delicious but did take sometime. This place seems to be busy all the time. Not sure what they put in their Arnold palmer but it was like the best one I have ever had and that is coming from a girl living in Georgia.
google avatar

Taylor S.

Yelp
The food was great! Best bang for your buck. My husband & I ate here for breakfast, & it was so so good. Atmosphere & servers were awesome too. Only downside, grits are not that great. However, we are from the south-east, so we may be judging harshly. :)
google avatar

Bradley K.

Yelp
Went to Black Bear for dinner. Never had their dinner menu so I figured hey why not! Well service was pretty great. Our server was nice and polite. Food came out fairly quick. Salad was good, meat loaf left something to be desired but nothing ketchup can't fix. My problem I had was that the menu says a price but I was charged a different price. Example being that I ordered the meatloaf dinner combo, menu said 16$ but I was charged 16.99$. It may just be a dollar difference but it's the principle that I was overcharged. Expecting one price but paying a higher price. Doesn't affect me and when I brought it up to the cashier, all she said was that she would ask her manager. No offer to charger the proper price or anything. I'm more concerned that this will not be addressed and affect more people! Charge what's the advertised price or get new menus to reflect the new price.

Yelp
We came here for dinner on a Sunday night and were seated right away. We had a party of 6. Our waitress was Chloe, and she was very nice, quick, and accommodating. I got the French toast, scrambled eggs and crispy bacon, my husband got a scramble with jalapeños, potatoes, bacon, sausage and cheese. The French toast was cooked to perfection, the eggs were not extra soggy, which I was very grateful for. The bacon was cooked just the way I like it to be cooked. It all was very flavorful. The scramble had such a good amount of spice, and flavor with the jalapeños and the cheese. To finish the night off we had a brownie sundae with huckleberry ice cream! Tasted like home cooking! Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Suzanne L.

Yelp
Mom and I had a long day and wanted to split a meal! We had chicken fried steak dinner with side salads, corn bread and a baked potato! Delicious! Our waitress Chloe (I believe) was attentive and cheerful, great service and great food!

Yelp
Coffee so good, waitstaff friendly, prompt, courteous. Ate there twice on our recent visit to Lake Tahoe, good place to before and after the airport. They have a cute little shop with clothes, gifts, lotions.

Dayna L.

Yelp
My first and only experience here was a breakfast of eggs, sausage and a pancake side that came out stone cold early in the morning at 7am when only 4 people were in the reastaurant. I told the server. Much to her credit, she credited me the food, and just charged me for the coffee & juice. She said: "I don't know what happened!" I do... she brought it over late & cold. Pffffft! A real bummer, since the reviews looked decent.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
We came here about 9am on a Sunday. We arrived and were immediately seated and provided menus. They have a huge breakfast and lunch menu with lots to chose from. The service was attentive and our orders arrived quickly and looked yummy. We both commented that we should come more frequently.

Yelp
Pros: This location had AMAZING servers and staff on Thanksgiving day! Everyone was engaging, with happy smiles, and quick on their feet. We appreciated them all! Cons: Not sure what happened in the kitchen today, but the traditional turkey dinner was positively disgusting. Stuffing was flavorless, dry & mealy. Mashed potatoes were straight out of a box, and both were served ice cold. Turkey was mostly palatable, but the gravy was cold, slimy and had zero flavor. Cornbread muffins and salad were the best part of the meal. As we were leaving (around 3:30) we overheard a server telling newly seated patrons there was no more stuffing. (No big loss, but the dinner crowd hadn't even started to arrive yet!) Overall, a pretty disappointing experience for $25/plate. If not for the wonderful staff trying their best to accommodate everyone, I would have to call this a complete fail.

Theresa C.

Yelp
I feel like the quality of Black Bear has gone down recently. I ate here before a few years ago and enjoyed the experience a lot more. The service is pretty good here but the food is hit or miss. I enjoyed my sandwich but I distinctly remember not having enough dressing for my salad so it just tasted like water. The "country style" potatoes that someone else at my table ordered were sloppily cut, burned in parts, and the onions they mixed in with them looked almost raw. I think you can still have a good experience here if you order the right thing but for me it's just not enjoyable enough to take the time for a sit down meal.

Nancy R.

Yelp
Food was amazing as always. Our waitress Michelle was wonderful! Polite, efficient, friendly. Everything you want in a waitress. Wonderful aesthetic, decor, and staff, definitely go here tourists!!!

Cristy P.

Yelp
I wish I could give a 10000000/10. I had Kali as my server and she was absolutely amazing. I was having such a bad day and going through a hard time and she definitely turned my day around with her bubbly personality. She always had a smile and even asked if I wanted dessert which I couldn't refuse a chocolate cream pie. I highly recommend if you go asking for this lovely gal. I was so happy and will definitely be coming back just to see her!
