My husband and I have brunch here recently when in Christchurch for a weekend away, without kids, and really enjoyed it. The food was top notch. I’m gluten intolerant and don’t normally have many options but I had quite a few choices. My husband went with the breakfast stack and it did not disappoint, other than the fact he couldn’t finish it as he didn’t want to overstuff himself for the road trip home! I got the pancakes, what a treat! They were delicious and I absolutely did finish them! We both got coffees, which were so drinkable we wanted more. We have recommended this place already!

Black Betty is always a win. Great coffee, awesome food, and a really cool vibe. I had the Stacey’s Stack—so good. Portions are solid, staff are friendly, and it’s just one of those places you keep going back to. Highly recommend!

Omg the beef brisket was fire🤤🤤 So tender and went perfectly with the sauce! Coffee was on point too. Chill vibes, great food.. why not? Highly recommend this spot!!

Decided to try it out as were looking for a good meal and it was amazing! Got Eggs Benedict, Staple Sandwich, Corn Fritters and a Bowl of Chips. Drinks were an iced chocolate, Americano with cream and ginger beers from the fridge. All food was fabulous and service was super good. Really impressed with almost restaurant standard meals and gorgeous looking cabinet food too. Would 100% come again!

The food here is exquisite. My husband and I split two dishes, The Goods and the Brioche French toast. I’ve haven’t had a better brunch ever. Portion sizes are substantial, the flavours mix well. Came here at 11am on a Wednesday and there’s a good amount of people, many working and eating. Wish this place would open up in Canada.

Spacious interior and friendly staffs. It was my very first meal in NZ, overall was good. I had steak and eggs and espresso coffee for breakfast to ensure enough energy for a long driving day ahead. Reasonable price.

Really good spot, amazing food, best coffee and the service is always wonderful! Whether or not you want to have a work meeting or just hang with your friends, this is the place to be everyone! Thanks all for your amazing cafe ♥️

I have come here a few times now. Today, there was a bit of a line, but not many coffees being made. The barista recognised me and checked if I still wanted my usual medium cappuccino. He said I could take a seat, and allowed me to pay later. These little acts of special attention make this place a real gem. Amazing service

The ambiance here is great love the decor diverse group of people here for coffee and breakfast staff are friendly thanks always enjoy my detour here

My meal was pretty good, but I waited to be served for 40 minutes and I was a party of one. Other people sat down and were severe long before me.

Stumbled across this cafe when I was looking for a place to study in Christchurch. They had nice outdoor seating with a rustic/modern look. I ordered the waffles, and it was a rich and delectable treat that looked pretty, too! I'm happy to have found a nice cafe to indulge my sweet tooth! I also enjoyed their meat pie.

Great food, great coffee, free Wi-Fi, and a cool atmosphere. The coffee is good compared to other cafes, and the food is fantastic. Try the French toast crumpets. They also have a wide array of coffee brewing methods. I tried the "Aero-press" coffee and they explained in detail the process of that brewing method when they brought it to my table.

A very good, and very filling bacon avocado sandwich plus some crazy coffee selections in a country that seems filled to the seams with great coffee. When I went it was a particularly dreary and rainy day and Black Betty provided a nice bit of respite.

Lovely coffee shop with delicious food! I had the avocado toast which was incredibly tasty and reasonably priced. For coffee, I tried the siphon (also spelled syphon) brew of an Indonesian bean...absolutely delicious. Black Betty makes for a fantastic brunch spot with plenty of seating.

After following Google maps with several trips around the block we found this warm and buzzy cafe where we enjoyed good coffee and breakfast. Parking in a city one is unfamiliar with was a challenge but saw there are parks at the cafe's back entrance. The place was very busy attesting to its popularity.

This place feels a little tucked away but it's worth the stretch of the legs to discover this beautiful cheery cafe. The staff are friendly, quick to clear tables and keep the place looking welcoming. Although busy when I arrived it took no time for the coffee to turn up and with good upbeat background music, vibrant feel and lots of seating options this is the place to enjoy a good cup of Joe.

I'm a bit fussy with snack foods and hate sweet things so it's hard for me to find a snack at cafes that is small enough to be considered a snack but not a super sweet cake or slice. I ordered the Bounty Bar Slice purely because it has a little sign saying "refined sugar free" . Oh my lord it was amazing! They have heaps of gluten free options which is awesome for those customers. The place was packed solid at 11am on a Wednesday but the staff are efficient enough to handle it.

I really like this place - very good breakfast served until 2:30, fast, efficient service, and cool atmosphere: wood everywhere, blackboards with Poe-ish chalk drawings of ravens, warehouse ceiling and comfy chairs. No wonder this place is so popular. I tried the French toast crumpet with fruit compote which was very nice (14.50) - with sweetness from the raspberries balanced by the tartness of the yogurt. Not sure the bananas are necessary, but you get those too. Good flat white - only had to go with one sugar where I usually need 2. For the purist, they also have a coffee tasting set if you want to explore their variety of beans.

First time in Chch....stumbled in here, in search of coffee. Bebop floated on the air and cake looks divine. Good coffee, big airy full of light. Wide spaced comfortable tables. Very nice.

A fun and trendy spot for our afternoon in Christchurch. We had the desayuno de Mexico (tasty though beans were undercooked) and the creamy mushrooms (one of the better creamy mushroom dishes I've had recently). Really enjoyed it, but will probably try a different cafe next time I'm in town.

This place is awesome.cute tbles. Good coffee and a ton of yummy brunch options. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a sweet coffee and brunch spot

What a neat place! We are so glad we came here before we left town. The building is charming and fun to look around while inside. We had the boiled eggs and bacon twist and poached eggs on toast. Both super tasty and the bacon wasn't overly fatty. We arrived early and there wasn't any wait for brunch but it appeared to fill up quickly. They seem to really like their coffee and have coffee plants everywhere! Don't miss out!

Service was great buy there was no table service and a long queue with only one person at the till. It didn't seem like a very efficient way to take orders The food was out quickly and was nice but nothing to rave about (I had the smashed avocado) My Syphon coffee was beautiful!!!! And the girl who served it was awesome :)

I found Black Betty on yelp when we first arrived in Christchurch and were dying for some coffee and breakfast. I'm so glad that I listened to the reviews. This place is amazing. I'd kill to have it as my local haunt. They have a huge, really cool looking facility with plenty of seating. Their menu was broad and diverse. The coffee was the best though. Thoughtfully crafted, smooth and delicious. I absolutely loved it. Would it be weird if I flew half way across the world just to come back here?

THE BEST TASTING COFFEE in Christchurch--without a doubt! Always friendly and fast customer service. I think their menu could be freshened up more often with some lighter meals, but other than that it's amazing!

Really cool Cafe in the centre of town. Was packed when we arrived at 11am on Sunday for brunch. But that is a sign that the place is going to be good. We found our own table and the waitress explained it was a 25 minute wait for the food regardlesss if it was kitchen or cabinet food. I ordered the avocado smash and a flat white. The coffee was amazing! I would come back just for that. The food was also top notch though. Great presentation and a generous portion. Overall a very good experience and would highly recommend this Cafe. Only thing to keep in mind is a wait time for food during peak times.

Nice food. A few different spins on the traditional breakfast which mixes it up a bits. Choice is also pretty decent too. Coffee is delicious and you can tell they are nerds and put a lot of effort into it. A cool setting with plenty of space and nice friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit

Used to be my favorite but not at more unfortunately. There is hair in the dish,the potato taste not right - something is out of date. When I ordered at the counter I wasn't even asked how I'd like to have the eggs cooked.

This place was fantastic. As a first timer, I was not sure how it all worked, so showed up Sunday morning to a line (fortunately inside). I stood there patiently waiting and watching amazing coffee and food pass by. I finally arrived to the counter after passing all the goodies. Made my order got a number, found a table and sat down. The coffee came first and my friend ordered tea. Her milk came in a little poison bottle which was very clever and cute. My latte was perfect! Food next. Spin on English breakfast. Impressive display and amazing flavor. The ambiance, food, and service were fantastic.

Great service. Everyone is so nice. Had their cappuccino, latte, Mexican breakfast fish and the veggie big dish. The Mexican breakfast was amazing. Especially their chipotle cream sauce which I mixed into their veggie big breakfast. But the service here alone would bring me back!

Felling a little bit hungry and friends had recommended Black Betty to us, the food from the cabinet was very high quality. My wife had a sausage roll which much was bigger then it appeared and a mixture of quality sausage meat, vegetables and herbs, she loved it, and I had a whole-grain chicken brie and salad roll. Staff were nice, overall a very satisfying lunch.

I had an amazing chai latte and the big veg breakfast. I loved the latte. The dish was okay. My friends had Betty luck with their dishes. Betty's granola was phenomenal !! The crispy bacon hash was also very good.

I'm a coffee snob. There I said it. I'm a coffee snob and this shop gets 4 stars. The coffee here is amazing. I had a soy milk latte and it was perfectly foamed and not burnt. I'll definitely be back here. I didn't have the food (still trying to swallow high NZ prices for brekkie) but what I saw coming out of the kitchen looked fresh, clean, and delicious. Staff were quick to talk about GF/DF options and said they could happily accommodate a range of diets. Thanks so much folks!

2nd day in Christchurch and came here for breakfast. We were not disappointed. Great breakfast with gluten free whole meal toast. Breakfasts are not cheap but with free range eggs and bacon you can't go wrong.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, fresh food, and good coffee. Love that they offer vegan/vegetarian options and kid portion meals. They also have a little area with toys for the kids.

When I was at CPIT I used to come here purely for the service. Recently I've tried cooked breakfast and it is SO good. I have no other words to describe the food other than YUM. Compared to other cafes in chch, this is by far the best! The food always comes out so quickly (sometimes amazingly quick) and the staff make a point to be friendly which makes it overall such a great environment and experience- no matter if you're by yourself doing a bit of work, or with a group of friends out for brunch. It's always a very busy place which tells me I'm not alone in my love of this place. Lastly, as a barista of many years and a very picky person when it comes to coffee, I'd like to make a point of saying how consistently delicious the coffee is here, no matter what kind! I'll gladly travel across town anytime to come here. Worth it.

Great coffee shop! Has a minimalist and clean look. Food is to die for. The tea is great, the croissant with chicken and avocado is my favorite.

Absolutely delicious! I got the Stacey's Stack, and the pesto hollandaise was perhaps the best hollandaise sauce I've ever had!!

Christchurch is meh but this place is awesome! Courteous and friendly staff and the food was amazing. I got the Shakshouka while my girlfriend got the Black Betty's Breakfast Stack. 10 out 10, just go there already!

Black Betty is a work in progress, at least from a structure standpoint as it is still recovering from the earthquake. The food is definitely not WIP - it's outstanding. Terrific innovative egg dishes (which I love, as does my family), yummy crumpet based french toast (for my kids), and super coffees. I had the avocado smash - a poached egg on thick multigrain toast with a huge dollop of avocado on it. My wife had shakshouka - this first time I've ever seen this outside of Israel. We didn't have the pastries from the case, but many other patrons were eating them, and appeared to be enjoying them. Probably our only time in Christchurch, as we were just passing through, but in the off chance we're back - we're definitely headed to Black Betty again.

Amazing food and coffee. Normally a bit if a wait for a table and/or food but its what you expect in a place of this size. Recommended.

We only had time for one breakfast in Christchurch before beginning our drive down to Queenstown, and I'm sure glad we found this place on Yelp. The cafe has a casual, comfortable environment. They served me a delectable toasted sesame bagel with cream cheese and pesto, and the best flat white I had anywhere in NZ. I got a double shot in their medium-sized cup, and savored every last sip. The espresso tasted almost caramelized. For the rest of my two-week trip I was just chasing the dragon, but nothing else compared.

Food is nice, they are known for their coffee. It's good but not amazing (to me anyway!), service friendly but sometimes slow.

They close at 4pm which is the only downside. Amazing coffee, baristas and food. Also, great savs on offer and big pitchers of water you can get freely from the fridge. Very happy with my multiple experiences here!

We recently visited black Betty's when The restaurant wasn't busy and in sad to say my Last experience was really poor, both service and food was not good. Wouldnt go back. I tried to get the attention of various waitresses which just didn't happen so before I left I left a note with my number asking them to call so I could give them this feedback.. No response at all which indicated they weren't interested. Not s good effort from one of the city's supposedly better cafes.

Place had a gd vibe and was very busy. Food was nice but luke warm. Finished my food before coffee arrived!

Enjoyed the relaxed state of the 2 male staff.I asked for a bagel and spread, in which one of the guys replied..."What do you feel like?".I like this approach.The spreads and bagel hit the spot.Coffee was bang on.

Really nice coffee! & I'm picky. Great brunch too. Interesting atmosphere - but often quite busy.

Great brunch, good size & value for money. Chairs & tables were quirky - good vibe. Will definitely come back here again
