The food was enjoyable, but it didn’t quite live up to the prices being charged. Both the burger and the lamb salad were around $35, which felt a bit overpriced for the portion sizes. That said, the ambience was lovely and the service was fairly standard. Two mains plus two lattes came out to be 80+ which feels 20 bucks too much.

We had the most beautiful dinner at Black Cottage Cafe celebrating our parents’ anniversary, and it was truly unforgettable. From the warm welcome to the exceptional service, everything was perfect. The ambience was elegant and inviting — ideal for a special celebration. The entrées were full of flavour, especially the truffle fries and cheese chilli garlic bread. The vegetarian linguine and wild mushroom risotto were rich, comforting, and beautifully presented. The mocktails were amazing and perfectly refreshing. Dessert was the highlight — the sticky date pudding is an absolute must-try, and the white chocolate & raspberry crème was simply divine. Highly recommend for special occasions or a lovely dinner night out. ✨

Always wanted to come here, and I really wanted to try their beef wellington bit it's only available during dinner times. Gorgeous restraunt, love the layout. Customer service is excellent, really separates.other restraunts with service like this. Chicken and bacon linguine 9.2/10 The ratio between chicken, bacon, parmesan, and sauce is spot on. Great balance and a great lunch. A slice of toasted garlic bread on the side would have been a good addition. Overall, I am very happy to pay for this again. Must try. Chocolate cupcake 6.5/10 Sweet tooth would love this. Cupcake was moist, and icing was too sweet for me. Next time, i will come back for the beef wellington. Love this place.

This place used to be really good. It’s changed owners and I believe it’s not as good as it once was. I ordered scrambled eggs on 5 grain. The scrambled eggs had broken shell in it, but also spring onion mixed through. This gives a yuk flavour and texture and I’ve never seen this at any cafe, nor will I be back. Sub standard

What a splendid eatery this is. Having a great selection of food combined with friendly staff always makes for an enjoyable time. The fact that your pooch can join you during lunch makes it easy going. Well done, Black Cottage Cafe.

Each section of the café has its own attending staff, and overall, they did a great job. I worked there for about an hour and a half, and they maintained good service throughout. By New Zealand standards, they are acceptable, but they could use more attention to cleanliness and maintenance. 🐶 Dog-Friendliness – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) A big plus is that this café is dog-friendly, making it a great choice for pet owners who want to bring their dogs along. 💡 Final Thoughts Black Cottage Café is one of the nicest cafés in the area. If you’re in Coatesville, Riverhead, or Dairy Flat, this is probably your best option. The café has free internet, making it a great spot for catching up with friends, family gatherings, or working remotely. If I’m in Coatesville again, I’ll definitely visit this place.

The absolute best creamy mushrooms ever. Used to get them about a decade ago. Still the best! Lovely staff. Beautiful environment. Awesome playground for kids.

Good Allpress coffee and a great atmosphere, nice find while we were out for a drive. Only criticism is that the coffee was made a bit too hot, killing some of the flavours. Otherwise well recommended, the menu looks good.

Walked into this cafe with no expectations and was met with warmth (autumn sun was out too), smiling greetings and attentive staff. Ordered my first of two long blacks before I took a seat near the side wall couch's. Decor was simple and uncluttered. Homely feel but yet a sense of being in an establishment. Ordered the eggs, scrambled with kransky sausages.. Well it went down very well. Staff ensured we were cared too. A definite return with more customers to bring.

What a lovely restaurant. Can't believe we missed it on our other visits. Funky decor and great coffee, causing me to have one more than I should have in the afternoon. Clearly very popular there was still seating available inside and out, a kids play area and well stocked bar. I had pulled pork sliders that were so delicious I forgot to take a photo before devouring them. All the food passing by looked delish. Will def be back. Service was good, kitchen was a bit slow but in a lazy Sunday we weren't too fussed.

One of the best meals I've had in Auckland this year. We had their famous beef Wellington and duck confit as well as the daube de beef. The beef Wellington was a standout (no wonder it's their signature dish). The flavours of the duck confit was good, though would've the duck leg itself was a bit on the small side. For dessert we had the Varlhona chocolate mousse, and it's the only reason why this review is 4.5 instead of 5. Frankly, the consistency was much more like a fudge. Nothing at all like the light and airy mousse that we had been expecting. The peanut butter ice cream that came with the dish was pretty good, though. All in all, great atmosphere and lovely find. Would definitely return but would skip the mousse the next time.

We arrived on a clear rather chilly winter Saturday. The cafe felt warm and welcoming. The large terrace had the storm sides down and was pleasant with the sun. I had the squid and mr j had the snapper both served with salad. We were a bit late for lunch so were really pleased that the wait wasn't long. My flat white was good. A very nice experience including easy parking.

Lovely cafe/restaurant w excellent food and service but our visit was spoilt by a self possessed family and their large ridgeback dog. The dog stuck it's head up the skirt of an older woman seated at the next table and generally wandered about on a lead under the control of a primary age child. The staff were too gutless to ask them to remove the dog. The table next to us said they wud also complain. We told the cashier but he just apologised and took no action . We won't be back until we know there won't be 50kg dogs sharing the dining area.
