If you are in a mood for some local "home made" Ice cream in Sedona...Black Cow Cafe is the place to be! Great flavors and dessert options.... and great quality products all locally made. Excellent customer service & friendly staff eventhough they were extremely busy... Advice for Public: Be ready for long lines leading into the cafe especially during the peak season and evenings... Recommendation for the owner: Try to keep the cafe open until 10pm or 11pm on Fri, Sat & Sun evenings during the peak season so that folks don't have to have their desserts before dinner! :)

I had two scoops of their house made French vanilla and it did not disappoint. Another person in my party had the Belgian Chocolate ice cream and it had a nice deep dark chocolate flavor that’s very smooth. This place is also known for their pies and we took two slices of apple crumb back to our hotel and once warmed up this was such an amazing after dinner/day after treat. The crumb topping was crunchy and full of flavor that paired well with the cinnamon and apples. Their pie crust is delicious. Although it’s located in a sort of touristy area of Sedona this place is worth the venture into town in an of itself!

Google
Well at first we were a little hesitant to try this place, because of some of the reviews on the customer service. The staff was courteous and helpful toward us. We ordered the ice cream and it is creamy and does taste homemade. We also ordered an oreo milkshake and my son love it. The trashcan and tables could use a good wipe down, as they were sticky.

Google
Perfect weather for ice cream! You can immediately smell the rich creaminess upon entry. You’re able to sample taste test. I ended up with a small cup which included two ice cream scoops and you’re allowed to mix and match. I got peppermint and espresso coffee. They gave a lid since I asked for to-go. Took home for 20 minute drive and it melted. Stuck it back in the freezer and it stayed separated. Perfect way to end the night.

Google
This is going to sound stupid but, we tried 2 other places before stopping here. I refused to get ice cream until I found a decent looking chocolate flavor. I got their Belgium Chocolate on a waffle cone and it was okay. $9 for this thing was a bit steep in my opinion, but it went down easy!

Google
Some of the best ice-cream I’ve had in a long time. I got the butter pecan and the espresso swirl. The three gentlemen behind the counter were very polite and on top of keeping the line moving. We will be back.

Google
Cute little ice cream cafe Zimbabwe style. They gave homemade ice creams. We had butter pecan and cookies and cream along with hot chocolate. The plaza in which it is located is also worth taking a stroll in. Must visit when in Sedona or passing by. Fir us it was a quick 15 min stop on our way to Grand Canyon from Phoenix

Yelp
There aren't that many dessert places that stay open past 8pm (during the weekday?) in Sedona and we were craving something sweet after dinner, so after scrolling here and there we found Black Cow Cafe! #dontgiveup I guess several people were craving dessert after dinner because there was a line and we waited a bit to order and to get our ice cream. We ordered a cup of prickly pear and cookies and cream and I wish I would've just gotten the prickly pear. I enjoyed the flavor and wanted more of it, but the cookies and cream was in the way. There are other items on the menu, smoothies, specialty ice creams and pie too! The place is small so it's more of a grab and go kind of spot, IMO. The service was pretty flat and slow, but I think it was this way because they were getting ready to close down. No biggie though, the goal was to satisfy the sweet tooth and that prickly pear ice cream did just that!

Yelp
Needed dessert and a coffee after hiking all morning. This place is a quaint shop with ice cream, pie, coffee and other drinks. I ordered a latte and a piece of cherry crumble pie, and my husband got an ice cream sundae with coffee ice cream and chocolate fudge with real whipped cream. He was in heaven. My pie was just ok, but I needed a pick me up from hiking. Unfortunately, they were out of their strawberry rhubarb that was on their website. Very friendly service and very reasonable prices compared to another ice cream shop down the street.

Melissa R.

Yelp
Picked up two slices of pie from Black Cow Cafe for our outdoor picnic. The line was a bit long but moved quickly, so the wait wasn't bad. The pies were good and made for a nice treat.

Kathleen W.

Yelp
This was the only place in Sedona we found that serves drip decaf coffee, so we loved that since my mom only drinks decaf. The service was very quick and friendly. It was a wonderful, warm, deliciously scented place to stop in on a cold day. The drip coffee and latte were both delicious.

Christi C.

Yelp
Great place to grab a delicious snack. I visited while on vacation. The shop was busy but service was prompt.

Nina W.

Yelp
Super busy on July 4th! We came here after dinner to grab some ice cream. I ordered the Oreo sundae. I wish it had more ice cream in it. The fudge, Oreos and whipped cream were very good. I would definitely get a scoop next time, since the sundae is expensive for the amount of ice cream included. The ice cream is delicious though.

Sadiya A.

Yelp
The prickly pear sundae was SO good!! Nice little ice cream shop among the souvenir stores and other shops. Staff was friendly and there were a few tables to relax and eat your treats.

Venezia M.

Yelp
Great family run place had a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie and it was so good that we went back for a second one. Definitely worth a visit.

david l.

Yelp
This is a nice stop while strolling through Sedona. They have many great flavors. You can't go wrong with the prickly pear.

Jann S.

Yelp
The ice cream is great. My hubby had the prickly pear sundae and I had the cowabunga smoothie. Both were great. The service is good. The ice cream and desserts are homemade. It looks like an old fashioned ice cream shop. Very cute. They also have pies and cookies. They seem to have a stream of customers coming in. We have been here twice and both times very good. It is a bit pricey. The sundae are $7.75 and the scoops are small but taste great.

Leks L.

Yelp
tried to get a apple pie 1/10/25, guy in the photo takes the pie back to cut and pretends to sneeze on it, sarcastically says "i had to sneeze" while laughing amongst the female co worker in the photo. i thought my mind was playing tricks on me until he did it AGAIN. I immediately walked out and will be contacting higher ups for them to review video footage and hopefully this worker faces consequences for his immature actions. disgusting people.

Kara W.

Yelp
We were happy to find a place that had prickly pear ice cream to try. It had a very herbally taste. Almost like a tea flavored ice cream. Fun to try. We were the only ones in the restaurant.

Michelle E.

Yelp
Congratulations Black Cow Cafe... this is the first 1 star review I have ever left on Yelp. It was that bad... from the service to the food, I don't know which was worse. My husband and I stopped in on a Sunday around 8:30 pm because there weren't many food options that were open. A hotdog and pie sounded good so we figured we'd give it a try. Big mistake! SERVICE - The guy taking our order (receipt said his name was Camden) had NO personality. I ordered two hot dogs and he just kind of stared at me. After a few seconds, he finally said he would go check to see if they had any. He came back and said they did and asked what I wanted on it so I said the works (as listed on the menu). He told us it also came with a water or fountain drink... they were out of ice in the drink dispenser so we opted for bottles of water. We also ordered a piece of pie. After paying, we sat at a table for over 25 minutes before he finally came out with the two hotdogs and bags of chips. We waited a few more minutes for the pie, which never came. I went back to the front to ask another worker for the piece of pie which had never been touched from the case. That worker was apologetic but I could see the first guy in the background of the kitchen area doing absolutely nothing while she helped us. PRICING - The total was $27.88 after tax and before tip for two hot dogs ($10 each) and a piece of pie ($5.25). Considering how awful they both were, it was way overpriced. HOT DOG (1/10) - The best part of this was the bottle of water and chips that comes with it... which is pathetic. The description said "all beef hot dog enclosed in a crunchy baguette with ketchup, mustard, & relish". I will say that the hot dog is a good size in terms of length and thickness but it's a standard hot dog... salty and nothing special. The kicker is how it is served... half the hot dog was sticking out of the baguette which was tough and tasted stale. Then, you don't get any of the toppings while you're actually eating the hot dog because they're stuffed in the bottom of the baguette. Since half the hot dog was sticking out, you're left with half the baguette and just toppings once you finish eating the actual hot dog. BOURBON CHOCOLATE CHIP PECAN (2/10) - Again, this was pretty awful pie. The crust was flavorless, hard, and dry to the point that we could barely cut through it with the utensils we were given. The actual filling was okay but you could tell it had been sitting pretty much all day so it was also dry and tasted stale. You get a dollop of whipped cream which was unfortunately the highlight. Not only would I never return to Black Cow Cafe, I will go out of my way to warn others not to come. Even as one of the few food places open on a Sunday night, I would have rathered gone to bed hungry than suffer through that awful service and food (if you can even call it that). Yikes... definitely avoid this place and thank me later!

Dimpie S.

Yelp
Cute little ice cream shop in Sedona! I had to try the prickly pear ice cream being in town. It did not disappoint and had a unique flavor. The Belgian chocolate was good too. To be honest, the ice cream didn't taste as fresh or homemade. I felt like this is something I could buy at a grocery store. The service was okay and there was some seating indoors. If you want to try prickly pear ice cream, I'd look into other nearby ice cream shops. Otherwise I would no return.

Kimberly A.

Yelp
One of the best ice chai lattes I've ever had. Very friendly and quick service. Perfect spot on the way to hiking to pick up a quick drink. This location was a mobile coffee truck very convenient. Def recommend and can't wait to return :)

Derick C.

Yelp
I forget how we stumbled upon this place during our time in Sedona, but it did not disappoint for sure! I know one of the trademark pies was the apple pie, but my eyes got drawn to the bourbon chocolate chip. It wasn't too sweet and paired well with the butter pecan ice cream. We also wanted to try out more ice cream flavors there; prickly pear was very refreshing after such a hot and dry day too. The shop still had pretty cozy vibes though I do think that half the folks there were out of town. We went an hour or so before closing time, the folks there were pretty nice and patient with us.

Shelby S.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for ice cream and generally will be at some level of happy if I get it. That being said, I actually really enjoyed the texture of this ice cream as well as the flavor. I'm not really big on really sweet things, but this place had a nice level to it that made me very content with the choice. Not overly creamy, didn't have a bunch of frozen chunks, all in all solid ice cream. Would come back if I'm in town.

Joselyn M.

Yelp
Perfect stop for an ice cream, or even a latte. Surprising to hear they even have hot dogs as well. Service was ok, only 3 workers that day... so it was a bit of a wait. Although, the wait was worth it. The kids did a great job trying to keep up. Ambiance was cute, but I don't recall any seating inside. It's more of a grab and go situation.

Joe H.

Yelp
Had a sundae, Ice cream was average, good flavor, the hot fudge was great service was good.

Claire J.

Yelp
what a beautiful little cafe in sedona!! staff was super kind and fast!! coffee isn't anything special, but the ice cream is almost one of a kind! try the affogato if that's your forte! eat here if you're sexy!!!

Britanee S.

Yelp
Omg I had such a nice surprise here . On a nice trip to Sedona I was able to take a bite here . Everything I had was yummy . The ice cream is made on site and was super yummy and fresh . I also did enjoy a hotdog which was good . A super quick snack but pretty good . Pricing was reasonable can range for 5 to 15 . The ice cream selection is pretty wide and you can choose scoops , cups, waffles . They have a ton of toppings to select from all looked freshly made . If ever in the area stop on by you won't regret it

CrystalandNick D.

Yelp
Neat little spot! Love Sedona and good ice cream and coffee here. Will certainly return!

Mary M.

Yelp
We stopped in here a couple of times during our two day trip to Sedona. What's a vacation without a bit of ice-cream. I loved their butter pecan, but unfortunately, the first night, we had to leave because the line was too long, and our kids weren't having it. We came during the day and all shared a small scoop to try it out. My husband and I came back in the evening and even though it wasn't stacked with maybe three people in front of us and it still took 30 minutes to get our ice-cream. The employee behind thr counter was on it. My husband asked if he could get their famous black cow but blended (like a root beer freeze) and they obliged. The employee said he'd do it but wasn't sure how it would turn out. Well, the verdict is in and the connoisseur said it would be a great addition to your menu as a 'Frosty Black Cow' or something.

krishna s.

Yelp
They have homemade ice cream. The prickly pear ice cream is their specialty and it was delicious. Highly recommend it.

Katlyn N.

Yelp
I got the prickley pear ice cream twice! So so good it reminds me of matcha but if it was a fruit and the waffle cone is so good and crunchy and thick

Darla E.

Yelp
Prickly pear sundae! Need I say more?! It was heavenly and I wish I could eat one every day! If you're in the area it's definitely worth a try, especially if you can't eat this flavor back home.

Mayra T.

Yelp
Do not stop there if you want good coffee! The service was very bad and not friendly at all ... the pies looked old .. skip this place !!!

Enana I.

Yelp
decided to come back to black cow cafe to sample more of their menu and i'm glad i did! we ordered the prickly pear sundae and the brownie sundae. the prickly pear sundae was okay. it was very sweet and fruity which is personally not my go-to combo for ice cream. however, the brownie sundae was my favorite thing i tried at black cow cafe--a big scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with a thick piece of warm brownie, hot fudge, peanuts, whipped cream, and a maraschino cherry! you can truly never go wrong with this combo. service was definitely better this time around! three young men were working the shop--very nice, friendly, and fast. definitely give this place a shot and order a sundae!

Chae L.

Yelp
ROOTBEER FLOAT!!! The best after a hike! Not on the menu but ask for it. You won't regret it!! Nom nom.

Rabab R.

Yelp
Yum yum yummmm!!! Don't walk here - Run! The icecream is the perfect way to beat the heat in Sedona. Soft, creamy, and homemade! I got the chocolate and butter pecan and it was both delicious! The waffle cone cup was a delicious addition as well!

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Icecream is handmade! Creamy, delicious, flavorful. For a small scoop, you get a ton of Icecream (2 scoops actually). It's a very popular spot so expect to wait in line for a bit. We also tried the prickly pear cactus sundae, which was really original and put together just right

L S.

Yelp
Great place to get a yummy treat. The ice cream was creamy and flavorful. Loved the waffle cones. Also had a piece of the peach crumble pie, it was delicious. I would highly recommend stopping here.

Barbara B.

Yelp
My friend and I yesterday had iced coffees and they were delicious. Our serve was kind and very helpful

Isi C.

Yelp
This is hands down the best ice cream shop in Sedona. They make their ice cream from scratch, and each one is perfectly sweetened and creamy. This is a wonderful mom and pop shop with a cute vintage ambiance. Even with many customers out the door, they are quick and efficient. Must stop in Sedona for ice cream.

Ellen L.

Yelp
Cute little ice cream shop. We tried the French vanilla and prickly pear. The vanilla was a good classic and prickly pear was interesting but also good. It had a surprisingly mild flavor which was a little bit herbal/tea like. I don't think I'd order again but it was still pretty good and I'm glad I tried it out.

Faith D.

Yelp
We wanted to end the night on a sweet note and happened to walk by Black Cow Cafe. Decently busy on a Sunday night but they were quick. My fiancé and I shared a double scoop of malted vanilla and prickly pear ice cream with a waffle cone. The ice cream was good, not crazy special or particularly amazing, but definitely good. Waffle cone though was surprisingly better than I thought it would be. I usually feel like waffle cones smell WAY better than they taste but this one was definitely a delicious cone. Get it with the cone!

Grace M.

Yelp
You guys nearly killed my son with food allergies. Sanitizing a utensil does nothing if you use cross contaminated utensils on the same bucket of sorbet. He has been throwing up all evening.

Chelsea E.

Yelp
I'm always up to get ice cream in any new city I'm in. So even though we were in Sedona in December and it was below 40 degrees after dinner, my boyfriend and I came here for dessert. Located right in the heart of all the Sedona shops, it fits in perfectly. They have mostly ice cream, but also other sweet treats like pies, cookies and lemon bars. I knew I wanted ice cream and luckily they allow you to taste test. I initially tried prickly pear but I wasn't a fan. Worth a try though! I then tried the malted vanilla and this is where it's at!! I've never seen an ice cream place do a malted vanilla and now that I've had it, I wish more places had this flavor. It is amazing! I immediately ordered it along with the Oreo (not that great) and chocolate (very chocolately--think dark chocolate, not milk). The ice cream is very creamy and soft and I'm grateful they had indoor seating so we didn't have to freeze eating this outside. Surprisingly, there were quite a few other patrons who braved the cold temps for a sweet treat. Only thing that makes them lose a star is the service. I felt like they weren't too welcoming and didn't really want to be there. Although, maybe they were just cold!

Steph W.

Yelp
They have 8 flavors and they offered samples to try. I tried the Oreo and it didn't have much of an Oreo taste so I stuck with a small of the coffee and Belgian chocolate. A member of my party enjoyed her peppermint chip which had a refreshing flavor and chip ratio! The ice cream is very creamy and delicious! The family owned establishment makes the ice cream homemade daily! Only qualm is that their smallest option (4oz) $5.10.

Mike V.

Yelp
Espresso swirl and prickly pear flavors were good. Gotta go back to try some pie and maybe a hotdog.

Alaina H.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and pick up something here to eat while you walk around all the shops in Sedona. I ordered the Belgian chocolate ice cream which was rich and creamy. It was paired perfectly with a chocolate dipped waffle cone and sprinkles. Really cute ice cream shop. Service here was quick, easy, and friendly.

Myphuong L.

Yelp
Perfect weather for ice cream! You can immediately smell the rich creaminess upon entry. You're able to sample taste test. I ended up with a small cup which included two ice cream scoops and you're allowed to mix and match. I got peppermint and espresso coffee. They gave a lid since I asked for to-go. Took home for 20 minute drive and it melted. Stuck it back in the freezer and it stayed separated. Perfect way to end the night.

Paul M.

Yelp
Wonderful handmade ice cream! Wasn't very crowded in what seems to be the off season, but the staff were attentive and easy to work with. Each serving may seem small in size, but sufficiently flavorful that you feel you have had a decent dessert.

Courtney T.

Yelp
Had the chocolate bourbon pecan pie. It was amazing! The service was great and had great seating to seat down out of the heat.

V O.

Yelp
Expensive but given the area it's in understandable. Great service and had places to sit.

Tahamidur R.

Yelp
It's been a long time I had a good icecream. Honestly amazing. The staff are friendly. I wish I had the picture of icecream cuz I ate it all. Malted vanilla is the best

Janelle F.

Yelp
Cold days call for cold brew right? I heard that somewhere (wink wink) Any day, rain or shine is a cold brew day for me. While shopping our hearts out my daughter and I stopped in the Black Cow Cafe for some well deserved coffee and ice cream. Did I mention the ice cream is homemade? It's a little heaven on earth full of pies, ice cream , coffee, cookies, sundaes and smoothies... If you're not looking for that sweet tooth fix they offer hot dogs as well. We were pleased to be greeted quickly By a young man. He made a pretty delicious cold brew and my daughter was happy with her French vanilla scoop in her waffle cone. Its a very small location with only a handful of small tables and it gets busy quick so be ready. We will have to make it a frequent stop when in town.

Susan K.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick coffee. $8.20 for two Americanos. Younger folks working the shop were not friendly, likely tired of tourists. Way too much water for a shot in an 8 oz cup. Oh well?

Cathy G.

Yelp
We enjoyed our peppermint chip ice cream. They had other fun flavors, but finding peppermint other than during the holidays is unusual. A childhood favorite we both had to have it!
