What a great coffee shop. You can tell the beans are top quality. If you arrive early, you'll be able to enjoy their pastries. On weekends they have a food stall outside that offers burritos (vegan options available). You pre-pay for the food inside and then you go outside with your ticket to claim the food.

Google
The service was great! With exception of explaining what is in the drinks that effect the taste. I ordered 2 drinks. ICED MOCHA and ICED CHAI EDIT*: It's worth mentioning that their syrups are NOT made in house. They're purchased and are over the top sweet. Be mindful of ordering things flavored with syrups vs those made "in house". However let me warn you that their 2 "in house" flavorings besides the "almond roca" had very little to no flavor. Iced Mocha: the first sip revealed cinnamon. Which, had I known, I wouldn't have ordered. When I order a mocha, I expect somewhat of a level of chocolate, absolutely NOT cinnamon. Unless of course it's abuelitas or MEXICAN style which nothing eluded to either of those. I drank as much as a could and tossed it. ICED CHAI: as if it couldn't get any worse, this glass of flavored water was without a doubt the worst chai latte I've ever experienced. Zero tea flavor, light spices and a strong flavor of.... not much really. When I say it tastes like water with some feint spices I am being dead accurate. As with all of my reviews, no drama here whatsoever. I almost implore you to try for yourself so you can give another honest review and with enough of those maybe the truth of this coffee shop will rise. I truly can't fathom the mindset of people who walk in and simply because the staff is nice, will say it's good coffee, or good product. Read the reviews, this seems to be extremely common here in long Beach. Nothing but hyper emotional based reviews that review people and atmosphere rather than product. This entire city is disgusting and the reviews of places are quite disappointing and revealing. This was a one and done visit and if the owner sees this I'd like my card refunded. Thanks

Cruising around Long Beach for the best locations to find delicious coffee. We depend on tasty cafe to get us through the day. Black Dog Coffee Roasters is a hidden gem off of 3rd Street. Had the pleasure of meeting Francisco who explained his passion for his coffee process and product. It sure comes through at your very first sip. This has to be some of the very best coffee from El Salvador. But dont take it from RTR... go in and taste it for yourself. I would like to know what you think & make sure you let them know that Ricardo the Realtor sent you. See you there.

Calling all COFFEE lovers!!! ☕️ 💕 There is a new local coffee shop in town that is worth checking out. Manuel (owner) and the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming to us. The indoor atmosphere was clean, beautifully decorated, and had a wonderful vibe/energy. Can totally see myself catching up with friends, studying or doing work here. 🥰 Manuel helped me decide on what drinks to try and let me tell you, he was RIGHT! He kindly explained the different drinks they offer and their flavor profiles. Based on his recommendations, we went with a hot vanilla latte (dad’s choice), 007, and PB honey speciality latte with oat milk. You can immediately smell and taste the quality of the coffee they use. It had complexity and layers of flavors (e.g. fresh, bright, nutty, balanced, and not too sour or bitter). I had to repetitively remind myself to slow down my drinking (SO GOOD). I love how they use coffee beans from around the world, very unique and creative. Overall, I HIGHLY recommend stopping by if you are in the area (worth the drive too ahaha). We had an outstanding experience here. Will definitely be coming back!!! 💖 Plus: There was no extra charge for choice of milk or syrups! This is such a rare find among cafes. They truly are a hidden gem. One of the BEST coffee spots in LB!!! 🤩

Google
By far my favorite coffee shop. They actually educated me a bit about coffee as they have their own family farm where some of their beans are produced. The employees love what they do and I believe that this makes having a good coffee more enjoyable. Tip: try their cold brew “dos perros”

Google
Came in for the first time and was immediately welcomed by the warm atmosphere and great layout/interior design of the cafe. Manuel and his coworker were very warm in greeting and Manuel had a great knowledge of coffee and was very enthusiastic and nice to talk to. The coffee is amazing and offers unique origins and varietals. It is some of the best coffee you are going to get in long Beach and that is from someone who has been working in the industry for quite a while. I had a v60 pour over and an espresso and both were masterfully done. Thank you guys! 10/10 would recommend.

Google
Let me just say, the vibe is on point here. The baristas are super rad and chai taste like it’s made in house.

Google
First time being in Long Beach and decided to try this coffee shop. First time experience will definitely be the last due to them starting to serve someone else after me. Then they continue to make a few other customer’s drink before me. I’ve had way better customer service at other local coffee shops. This was the worst by far

Andrea L.

Yelp
The ambiance, the customer service, the coffee, I drive miles to start my day with black dog. 007 with cold brew highly recommended

Yelp
I've loved this place since their warehouse days in Signal Hill! This local coffee roaster has great vibes and plenty of seating. I visited on a Friday morning when there was a burrito stand outside (not affiliated with the shop), which was a nice surprise. Milk alternatives and syrups are always free, which is a nice touch. Parking is street-only and can be a challenge since it's in a residential area near downtown Long Beach. Beware of street sweeping on Monday and Tuesday mornings--it could be even tougher to find a spot then. We always grab a bag of beans to take home for espresso; at $20-25 per bag, it's a great deal! Perfect place to relax, sip, and support local coffee.

Jacob F.

Yelp
Great neighborhood coffee spot! The staff is friendly and seems like they enjoy what they do . Coffee tastes great , although I normally order Cold brew. There are plenty of other options to pick from. I've only been on an early morning during the week, and it has a chill vibe. There's space inside to hangout and catch up with friends or study space. I'll definitely pop back in every so often during my off days

Kye B.

Yelp
Black Dog Coffee Roasters is hands down one of my favorite coffee spots! The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming, always creating such a positive vibe. One of the best things about this place is that they don't charge extra for milk alternatives, which is a rare and much appreciated bonus. Their pricing is super affordable, especially considering the quality of the coffee they serve. Honestly, they could be charging more, but I'm grateful they keep it reasonable. My go-to used to be the 007, but after trying their lavender latte, I think I have a new favorite,it's absolutely delicious. I can always count on Black Dog for consistently great coffee. If you're in the area, you've got to check them out!

Dania A.

Yelp
Discovered this place randomly when checking out nearby apartments (looking to potentially move to the area). So after apartment hunting, I found it walkable and headed over. The neighborhood is so cozy and a touch suburban but in a good way. The shop is small but well spaced to accommodate its guests. Its decor is rustic and international, with a great selection of drinks. When I visited, there was only one type of pastry and only one barista onsite, and I'm sure on other days there's more. The syrups and milk alternatives are available at no extra charge (bonus) and I enjoyed the almond roca oat milk latte! Bookmarked this place as my possible go-to if the move works out in the area.

Ritu M.

Yelp
Love. This was the 3rd coffee shop in the 2 mile vicinity I visited. I was like Goldilocks looking for the right place, that felt good. The location, space, vibe, and of course the coffee were all perfect. They have some incredible signature choices and the staff helped me choose the drink for me. I decided on the PB Fit Latte. And I was not disappointed. This place is stellar across all the attributes! Creative drinks, traditional good quality coffee for the true coffee lovers, cozy space, lovely quaint front patio seating, and kind staff. Also- I'm a sucker for cute mugs...and they have that.

Eva K.

Yelp
Yumm! I got the Lava Me, which is a honey lavender latte and it was delicious. Even better they do milk substitutions at no extra charge! I loved the vibe of this coffee shop, they definitely get busy and I can see why. Inside it feels very comfy and cozy

Jacey H.

Yelp
This place was so much fun, I loved all of their different coffee. I've also never had a latte with agave in it and it was mind blowing. It was so so so good, I'm so glad I gave it the chance. The woman behind the counter was kind and you can tell it's a good place to go!

Carlie C.

Yelp
Delicious and super freaking cool!!! The baristas were very kind and knowledgeable about the roasting process and how everything is made in house. I was nerding out high key. We got a red eye, a pb fit latte, and a Cafe Santo cold brew to go. They had a sign to ask for free samples and we did and both were amazing. I've never had palo santo in a drink before but was very intrigued by the infusion process. Looks like a great place to work although im unsure of if they had any outlets. Street parking was easy with plenty of spots around

Jeremy L.

Yelp
Stopped by Black Dog Coffee Roasters in Long Beach, as it was a recommendation from a co-worker. The staff and owner was really nice and welcoming. I tried their PB Fit Latte which was smooth and not too nutty, and the honey was a nice touch. Enjoyed the quiet ambiance as well.

Adeeva M.

Yelp
I love coffee and Long Beach has some great cafes. I have to say this is going to be one of my top favorite spots! I loved the vibe inside, they have a good amount of seating and free WiFi. I came here and was able to get some work done for a couple of hours. I ordered their Lava Me latte with almond milk which was sooo good! It's their lavender latte which was not too sweet, just how I like it. I will definitely be back!

Rachel K.

Yelp
Love this coffee shop so much!! Very adorable decor and design on the inside. Love the wooden theme. Very organic and very comfortable place for me to sit and work! The team is small and obviously it's a new business. Feels good to be recognized and have a sense of community here! The team members are always really friendly and welcoming. I ordered the Honey Lavender Latte. DELICIOUS! One of my fav combos and such a wonderful delivery of one of my favorite coffee flavor combos. Will be returning often! Especially being walking distance from my neighborhood.

Dan C.

Yelp
I had the drip coffee and it was very flavorful. You don't understand how hard it is to get a good tasting drip coffee these days. Also, the place is quaint.

LeAnn F.

Yelp
There is free street parking, which wasn't hard to find and free wifi. There is only 1 outlet tho. They do close early at 3 pm, wish it was for longer . It does get packed, but people are welcoming for you to share and sit at their table. This is a great place to remote work. I love the travel vibe aesthetic. I believe that one of the barista's family produces the coffee beans in Latin America, which is so cool that it's a family business. Everyone is professional and super friendly. The barista really seems like they understand the different type of roast and where the coffee beans are sourced. It was super fast. They brought my coffee to me too and made room for everyone to sit down. I got the lava me with oat milk which it isn't an extra charge so we love that! The latte had a hint of lavender and I always love the latte art. The coffee is actually cheap compared to other places around here. It was around $5.75. I definitely recommend coming to this place and supporting this business.

Azelle B.

Yelp
One of my fave neighborhood coffee spots! Chill, nice vibe and service is always friendly. Will always come by for their Cafe Santo Cold Brew! Can never go wrong.

Erin H.

Yelp
Nothing but good things to say! Good coffee, lovely baristas, quick service, very vegan friendly (soy, almond, oat mills, maybe even coconut?!), fair pricing. They don't charge for alt milk, which I love! Got a cafe ole, and it was great. Fair amount of free street parking. Outside seating is limited; there is more inside, and it wasn't too crowded when we went on a late Sunday morning. Aesthetic is like warm hues, low key, natural vibe. The inside was a little dim for me but wasn't an issue since there was outdoor seating. Would totally come back! My partner's oat milk Mexican mocha was bomb - got it half sweet and it was perfect.

Helen K.

Yelp
New neighborhood coffee shop in Alamitos Beach area on 3rd street! They have another location in Signal Hill if you're familiar with that on Today is the soft opening and as a neighbor just a block away, I was so excited to try this place! I ordered the matcha latte with oat milk with a bit of agave sweetener and it was so yummy! The staff is all super friendly and there are a few tables inside as well as outside to sit at and enjoy.

Johnny Bishop B.

Yelp
Very watered down iced chai, couldn't taste the chai too much and didn't want to bother them to remake it. Although they made it quickly so that was a plus. Nice aesthetic and walkable neighborhood, didn't try the coffee because I don't drink coffee.

Kelly S.

Yelp
Day one and they're already off to a good start. Outdoor seating for doggo people and it's a nice day. Tried a Cortado and a Latte, both tasty in their own right. Super friendly staff. Vibe inside is lively but kick back. And there's a windows to watch the roast happen. Excited to have a new local spot. If you're visiting via vehicle cuz you like the Signal Hill location, be a good neighbor, don't park in the red.

Amber T.

Yelp
This is some of THE BEST coffee in the LBC!! I stumbled upon this place since I was at the camera shop next door. I had a taste for coffee but couldn't tolerate the caffeine since it was already afternoon, I got a decaf coffee with Almond Roca syrup and half and half. To my amazement my coffee was phenomenal!! I was very happy since I had not tried the Almond Roca flavor before and that I got out of my comfort zone and tried something new. The service was great and the inside of the place was really nice. It has lots of plants inside and interesting types of seating like an old elementary school desk. Their prices are very reasonable overall ($4-$6) for a decent size cup of coffee. This is where I get my coffee when I am in Long Beach!!

Angelo C.

Yelp
BARISTAS WERE AWESOME! Cafe was spacious and a great place to study. Drink was made to perfection. Matcha was smooth and the had the right amount of rose. Def coming back to try the Double 07!

Angie M.

Yelp
I have been supporting Black Dog Coffee Roasters for a few years now, so, of course, when they open up a new storefront, I had to head over. They were previously at a warehouse before they had a little stand across the street. Regardless, for two years, I always would order bags of beans, even if it meant a delivery to my workplace, and a cup of Lava Me. So, as always, I came in and ordered my bag of beans, my cup of coffee, and one of each scone because that's how much of a gorda I am. Their coffee and pastries never fail. I sat for an hour to do some work. There's some nice ambience music, but nothing too crazy. Service is always amazing. I'm so happy to see how well Francisco is doing.

Cecily G.

Yelp
This is such a wonderful, local cafe. The coffee is brewed to perfection and always fresh. The espresso is smooth and you can tell they take good care of their espresso machine. Customer service is always great, and Gabby, the owner is a gem. Highly recommended.

Coffee Thursday ..

Yelp
Today we are reviewing Black Dog Coffee Roasters! They have two locations: a building near 3rd St. and another in Signal Hill--a coffee cart. Black Dog Coffee Roasters is a Latino owned and inspired coffee shop, selling drinks related to Latin culture. Black Dog changes their coffee beans daily or every other day, fusing their drinks with different experiences. The coffee bean we had was Salvadorian! We ordered an iced Double-07 latte, which already comes with oat milk. It's a simple drink, yet greatly flavored! The agave adds this gentle sweetness to the drink that makes it so enjoyable. The drink is smooth, and perfectly caffeinated. This is the perfect drink to get at Black Dog Coffee Roasters. We also had their hot PB Fit Latte with oat milk. This drink was delicious. However, we were more invested in the Double-07 latte. This drink also had a subtleness to its sweetness that stayed true to its coffee taste. We have tried the matcha latte here, and the flavor is a bit near the umami taste. So it was a bit questionable. The coffee drinks here are amazing and Coffee Thursday recommends trying this location. We want to give a shoutout to Marcus and Joanna who provided us with this recommendation.

Graeme H.

Yelp
Came back again. Friendly staff for the most part. Got both the Matcha as well as the Tumeric. . The prices did go up and actually there was a discrepancy between what was on the menu and what was charged with the charge being LOWER than the menu price. I actually brought it up and they honored the lower price (Suppose they had to since they wouldn't have known if I didn't say anything). Although they did say if I order another its the new price. I tried their Vegan burrito which was actually a vendor who cooks it literally just outside. The music is a bit loud if you do want to have a meeting and its not super private or comfortable for a meeting but for an hour or so it will do. I'd definitely go back if I needed to hide out and get some work done with an awesome cup.

Alexandria S.

Yelp
Black Dog Coffee Roasters in Long Beach is still a standout spot for coffee enthusiasts. Having followed them from their original location in Signal Hill, I can attest to their history of top-notch coffee quality and warm service. Their new location maintains the essence of what made them special, even though the cozy, intimate feeling of the original spot has shifted slightly. The in-house chai latte and the Double Seven latte were always my go-to favorites. The chai, in particular, was a highlight for me--rich and perfectly spiced. While I've noticed a subtle change in the chai's quality since their move, it's still a solid choice, just not as elevated as it once was. Overall, Black Dog Coffee Roasters continues to deliver quality coffee and a welcoming environment, making it a must-visit in Long Beach. The evolution of their offerings is just a reminder of how special their coffee has always been.

Ada T.

Yelp
Coffee, food, sweet treats, and gift shopping. Love it as a cafe that steps just outside the "norm" for tourist towns.

Esther J. C.

Yelp
This is a cute little local spot! I wouldn't have known about this place if I wasn't walking home from a friend's a couple weeks ago. (I wanted to walk home to get my steps in.) I had only my water bottle with me and was getting hungry. There was a car accident in the intersection so I took that as a sign to stop walking and check this place out. I walked in and felt a calm and peaceful vibe. It smelled so good! The cashier was so nice and friendly and helpful. (I'm so sorry I forgot your name! I'll update when I come back.) She helped me decide and I got the PB Fit Latte. It has protein in it and I figured since I missed breakfast, this would be a good start to my day. The baked goods looked so good! I gotta come back and try it! Thanks guys!

Karsten W.

Yelp
A cafe more for those who want to be part of "the scene" than those who want an excellent cafe experience. Service was friendly, the coffee good enough (I'd give it a B.) But why was there no sugar? I had to ask for it, and the gentleman had to go to the *back room* to get it. Turned out it was brown sugar, which I dislike in coffee because of its strong own-taste. I didn't even bother to ask for white sugar. When my wife went to get sugar - it was gone. We had to ask for it *again*. Is this like a secret "we know what's better for you and sugar is not it" cabal? Food selection was sparse. Three pieces of pastry on a Sunday morning at 9:00, all of them twice-baked (who ever said that's a good thing?), French toast, while on the menu, was out. Then there were the dogs. Several owners entered with them, and nobody bothered to explain to them that dogs are not allowed in food establishments. Not that I'm overly concerned about hygiene. But when the dogs start a loud barking concert so you can hardly understand your own word anymore - it is time for the beloved pooches to go. This cafe is popular and has good ratings. Perhaps that is because people are desperate - this is a blob of a residential sprawl neighborhood with this being one of the few attractions.

Janie D.

Yelp
Third wave cafe, serving thoughtfully sourced coffee. In fact, their coffee is grown on the owner's own family farm in El Salvador. The shop is homey and inviting, with lots of natural light, black paint, and exposed brick. They have a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Their menu includes all the classics, plus a few specialty drinks. On a weekday morning, they only had cranberry scones in the case. I opted for their "Double 07", which is described as a foamy iced espresso with oat milk and agave. Right up my alley, I thought. Unfortunately, it was undrinkable. I could tell there was good espresso in there somewhere, but the drink was sickly sweet, and they use Kirkland oat milk, which has a bitter, fermented aftertaste. Black Dog is brand new, so maybe they just need more time to work on quality control. But honestly, in a city with so many exceptional coffee shops and roasters, they need to step up their game.

Sarah V.

Yelp
I've been to Black Dog a couple of times now and it's definitely a new fave coffeeshop in LB. I love the vibe here! The baristas are super friendly and the place is very cozy and inviting. Love the natural lighting, plants, and decor. Coffee-wise: I got the cold brew (black), which was very smooth and a good portion! And I've also tried the mocha (hot), which was delicious. Things I look for in a good coffeeshop: * Good coffee * Lots of seating * Free wifi * Good music And Black Dog Coffee Roasters checks all the boxesThis is def going to be a regular spot for me! Tips/logistics: - Dog-friendly - This is a parking-impacted area but I was able to find a spot both times I visited (weekend mornings), although I did have to circle the block - Bring a book or a friend - it's a great place to hang out!

Brittany H.

Yelp
Love my new local coffee shop. Delicious drinks and good vibes. Dog friendly, they do puppuccinos Their pastries usually sell out in the mornings

Bryan T.

Yelp
Came here after having breakfast at Tito's. Parking is street only, so it can be hard. Inside it was a very relaxing ambiance, perfect place to study and meet up. The workers were nice too and help me pick a drink. I went with the sweet little hulk, it had rose syrup, oat milk and matcha. It was pretty tasty and refreshing. If parking wasn't so hard, I'd come back again and try other drinks.

Leina S.

Yelp
I'm so glad they opened up so close to my home. I usually love their iced mocha w whole milk, or 007 w whole milk. I don't like the oat milk they use (Kirkland) or the agave. Initially I was told their chocolate for their mocha is handmade, but another review says otherwise-so not sure. Recently they've hired some new people who unfortunately don't make the drink as good. The pull of the coffee is always so bitter and lack mocha. The tall curly hair man or girl w tattoo makes the coffee super consistent and good, but my last few visits were not good at all. Very expensive and I'd hate to ask them to remake my drink since they usually have a long line! I'll buy their beans from time to time but unfortunately have to find somewhere else for my fresh coffee!

Erica R.

Yelp
Vanilla latte tasted weak. Overall doesn't taste like it hits. I don't recommend. The place is super clean and has a cute esthetic.

Tayler F.

Yelp
This place is an absolute gem! The service was incredibly friendly and honestly the place has great vibes overall. You must try the PB fit latte it has a great peanut butter flavor and the honey sweetens it the perfect amount. It's a creamy coffee that tastes like a great without a bunch of added sugar. The decor is also so cute. I love this place so much I'll definitely be back!

Paula O.

Yelp
Since there were no jalapeño scones this weekend, we got a chocolate peanut butter scone hoping it would be as tasty. Nope. Dry as a C.Y.E. choker, however bf really enjoyed it more. Go figure. This update is to be realistic about their baked goods since all scones are not created equal.

walt m.

Yelp
First time visiting this Kool little coffee shop just a block from my condo. I ordered the cold brew iced coffee, it didnt disappoint. Happy to see they serve coffee from my motherland, of El Salvador. I hope they will add seasalt coffee to the menu soon. will return.

Jason Y.

Yelp
Nice vibes and aesthetic inside. Service was great and friendly. Tasty coffee as well.

Anna G.

Yelp
Dear Yelp Community, Great venue! Nice design, friendly staff, good service. Enjoy! Sincerely, Anna

Pennt T.

Yelp
Really fun ! The double 07 was so yummalish perfect sweetness. We also tried the lavender latte and it was good but the oavender was a little strong I rec doing half sweet. The matcha is good but not incredible. The vibe is the best el música fue divertido and todo es tan bonitaaaa I love the vibe

Catalina A.

Yelp
Highly recommend! Staff is great!! kind and humble. Coffee is amazing, cool place and vibe. Nice spot to also work remote.

Rochelle D.

Yelp
This was such a good find in my search for a quick bite and cold brew! The staff greeted us as soon as we walked in and got our order out quickly. I got a cold brew with stevia and half and half...it was perfection. My friend got an iced oatmilk hazelnut latte and said it was delish. The coffee shop inside is super sweet. We got a 646 burrito which is redeemed outside, fresh made to order on the flattop grill. Get both the chipotle sauce and Verde salsa! I'll be back!

Celina S.

Yelp
Tried this place today, quite busy on a Saturday morning, which is good. And with everyone hustling behind the counter, we got our drinks fairly quick. We got the jalapeño cheese scone and blueberry scone. Which were pretty good. We also got an iced lavender latte and an iced 007. We really enjoyed both drinks. The lavender latte was nicely balanced, not too sweet not too strong. Similar for the 007 on the sweetness. However, it does have pack more of a caffeine punch. We love that there's so many good coffee shops in LB. But we definitely love that this one is around the corner. We'll definitely come back to try their other drinks.

Mayra S.

Yelp
This has been my favorite coffee spot for over a year. Their coffee is proportionally balanced and you can actually taste the coffee (not too sweet). I've tried their 007, PB Fit, The Matcha, The Sweet Hulk and they've all been outstanding. They don't overdo it with the ice and they don't charge extra for milk. I would also highly recommend their scones. Go early because they do run out of the scones.

Geo O.

Yelp
Great coffee and ambiance. The staff was really nice and helpful when answering my questions about the different coffee options.

Lorenzo F.

Yelp
A welcome addition to the Alamitos Beach neighborhood. Weirdly a coffee shop desert in a city filled with them. Great tasting coffee and friendly/ warm staff. My dog and I are making it a stop on our daily route.

Eddie F.

Yelp
My new weekend coffee ritual! Double-07 as is or with an extra shot is amazing, along with the staff. Can't wait to come back again!

Daisy P.

Yelp
New coffee shop opened on the corner of 3rd and Cerritos! Just a short walk from my apartment so I'm beyond excited. I tried their chai latte with oat milk, they make their own chai concentrate in house so it's got a special kick to it. If you're a chai girl like me you'll appreciate the spiciness and fact that it doesn't have that artificial taste to it! I think next time i'll try adding a one of their specialty syrups in addition for extra sweetness :) I also got a PB Fit Latte with oat milk for the walk home and WOW it was beyond!!! The flavors tied in so nicely. Peanut butter, honey ,plus a good quality espresso -- 10/10! Staff were very sweet and asked if everything was to your liking, definitely going to make a home out of this place -- welcome to the neighborhood!
