Black-eyed Pea

The Green Tomato BLT was lacking as it only had one small green tomato on each half of the sandwich. The veggies on the veggie plate were not hot. The ice cream was not even a full scoop and was mostly ice crystals. We recommend the cherry fried pie, the roast beef, and the rolls. You can do better BEP!

So my friend took me here. Oh my gosh this food was amazing! The Salmon was so tender. The chicken was so tender. And the freaking corn bread oh my lord. So good. The drinks were anything short of spectacular! Miss Donna was AMAZING!

2/28, 78yo Mom and I out for usual drive, mom decided she wanted Black-eyed pea. Upon arrival, no greeting or acknowledgement of presence; even with 3 wait staff team (2 wf, 1wm) standing & talking at the very front door. Luckily, Mary arrived at front with a smile, offered me a senior menu for my mom to review. Then, headed to bar for takeout. Waited, No one at bar for 4-5 minutes except 1 customer; but, then greeted by Donna, who told me she'd be right with me; another 4-5 minutes passed and I watched Donna pack to go orders, wait tables in two(2) sections, and do bar service before finally getting to my to go order and because Mom wants roasted chicken, we'll have to wait another twenty (20) minutes!!What on earth??? I see a multitude of young wait staff onsite; why is Donna being pulled in so many directions ?? It seriously impacts overall customer service. Finally, got our meal and headed home. Horrible visit.

Fried pickles, cornbread, crispy chicken sandwich with fries, Chicken fried steak with mash potatoes and buttery corn. It was first time and I was really happy with my experience but it my friend had been years ago and it was just like they remembered. I’m craving it days later lol. We will be back!!!

After a rough morning trying (and failing) to get into the fair, my family and I decided to grab lunch at the BEP- best decision ever! The food was so good, the place was spotless, and the atmosphere was super inviting. But what really made our day was our server, Archie. He was absolutely amazing. So friendly, funny, and genuinely kind. He made us feel like part of his own family and totally turned our day around. We all agreed he deserves a raise if he hasn’t gotten one already! 10/10 experience. Came in gloomy, and left smiling. Definitely recommend and we’ll definitely be back!

First time visiting this location since the closures!Ribs and sides were delectable, southwest chicken casserole left some to be desired in moisture/ consistency and flavor, but was overall edible. Not pictured is the great american sampler with fried green tomato, fried pickles, and potato skins. This was the highlight of our meal and we would highly recommend the fried green tomatoes. Dipping sauces selected were the jalapeño ranch, ranch, and sour cream- the jalapeño ranch paired beautifully with all of the appetizers in the sampler, and is not too spicy at all. Our server was attentive and kind, and we look forward to our next visit!

Definitely a nostalgic experience. I was on the highway headed to a hair appointment when I looked over and saw Black-Eyed Peas. I used to eat here all the time as a kid, and thought all of them had gone out of business. I stopped here on the way back and the food was just as good as I remembered. My favorite is the fried mushrooms. The ranch dressing is also as amazing as I remembered. I also had the "Nawlins Catfish," squash casserole, cabbage, cornbread dressing, Fried Green tomatoes, and chocolate cake with ice cream. The portions are good, so I had plenty to take home for another meal. The waitress was very sweet and courteous and made sure I had everything I needed. Will definitely be back.

Had lunch there today and it was very good.. Had chicken fried steak mashed potatoes and fried okra. Chicken fried steak was good..not great but it was good, mashed potatoes were mediocre but the okra… That okra was Freaking Awesome.. best part of the meal. Hot and fresh and on point. Rolls and cornbread were good but could have been hotter. Service was a tad bit slow… took awhile to get our drinks.

Service is great. Food is overly salty. The chicken fried steak looked juicy and flavorful but somehow was really dry when you bite into it. It was like it was absorbing all the moisture in my mouth, despite being very tender. It was a culinary marvel in a bad way. The fried mushrooms were good, and the cheese sticks. The broccoli cheese casserole was good. The cornbread stuffing tasted like a boxed mix with too much salt added. The gravy and ranch were good, but the marinara tastes like cheap jar kind. Slightly metallic the way they can be. Food was very very slow. The workers are amazing though, and deserve to work for a better quality restaurant.

First visit, the store closed and locked doors 30 mins early. Returned 2 weeks later to try again. Cornbread stale, rolls stale.. refused to bake more bread because they were closing in 2 hrs. Sigh WTH 2 more hours to be open and won't make the iconic bread? These are Black Eyed Pea signature items and refused to make more bread 2 hrs before closing. Two trips to visit this iconic restaurant before all the locations finally go out of business. so disappointing. Problem here.

The food is Southern down home style. Lots of gravy for the Chicken Fried Steaks and Chicken Fried Chicken. My whole family loves it.

Had dinner here with my wife, and we had a great server named Maya. She came over right away and took our drink orders, and was very attentive the whole time. Our drinks and food came pretty quick. I had the chicken fried steak, and it was really delicious, especially with the white gravy. The black eyed peaswere really good also. For dessert I ordered the peach cobbler,it was great, not overly sweet, and the only thing missing was the vanilla ice cream. Great meal, will definitely visit again.

I love the fresh food options at Black Eyed Pea. I never take a trip to Dallas that I don't visit BEP. I wish they had more locations.

There is not one thing we didn't like about our experience at Black-eyed Pea tonight! We weren't expecting much based on the overall restaurant score, but it's a short drive and a menu we like so, why not? We were immediately greeted by two friendly gentlemen and seated right away. Richard, our server was attentive but didn't hover. The food was delicious and the portions were just right! The restaurant itself was clean and tastefully decorated. There were TVs playing sports all around the restaurant but the sound level was low and it was easy to carry on a conversation! The menu has something for everyone and the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be back!

So disappointed. We went at 5:00 pm and got seated quickly close to the hostess stand. It was not very crowded. However, we waited about 15 mins and no waitress came to take our drink order or even acknowledge us. There were two girls working two tables each at tables close to us. We decided that was long enough and walked out. The young man that seated us said have a good night. He had just seated us 15 mins ago, you would have thought he would have asked why we were leaving... not sure what the issue was. Sad because hasn't been in years and was looking forward to the famous fried corn. But with service like that, we didn't feel like it would be worth staying there.

Sat down at a table and the roof was leaking so we got rained on. Changed tables and waited a while for our food. Our waitress comes and brings us the check before our food arrives. When our food did arrive it was ice cold. Called for Manger, he took it to kitchen to be reheated. I am sure it was microwaved. Took a while to get to go containers as well as the check. Will not be.going there again.

Old BEP was 100% dependable, then it went away like many others. Imagine my excitement when I spotted one In Arlington Tx a few years ago. Ate there probably 15 times in the last 5 years, all good. Rolling up I-25 3-4 years ago and see another one in Pueblo. Came back down, ate there, excellent, remarkable. So, back in Arlington went to that one for a birthday tonight, 8 of us, about 7 PM. Seated right away, drinks came ok, little slow on ordering, no big deal, we are not in a rush. I ordered CFS crispy well,white gravy on side, etc. Orders came out, mine has brown gravy on it. Server again maybe 10 minutes, took it back and immediately returned with a different one, said "oh they just something something". The "new" one I should have videoed. It looked "old", put a fork to it and grease splooged out. Put a knife to it and nothing but tough sinewy inedible badness. There is no way it had been recently pulled. Did not see server again for about 25 minutes, drinks empty, gone again. Another 15 minutes with the ticket. Drinks still empty. She never noticed a thing. At most 6 tables, I believe 3 servers. Never anyone at the door, nobody around looked like a manager. I am just sad.

Fast service, good food and friendly staff. I had turkey and dressing with cranberry sauce, mac and cheese, and black-eyed peas of course!

Clean, Decently priced, friendly service and comforting food. What more do you need? The sweet tea leaves a little to be desired as it taste like half and half, other then that it was quite enjoyable. I highly recommend the N'Awlins Catfish, with their incredibly delicious Peach Cobbler.

Good food good service. Pot roast was great. Corn bread stuffing, good rolls and cornbread. Large salad.

Service was so warm. I got seated so fast even at lunchtime and I can appreciate that. Relaxed atmosphere.

This place is amazing! Great food and friendly staff! Complimentary rolls and corn bread are to die for! Everything I've ordered from the menu has been a 10/10. I love their "Southwest chicken casserole" and you can't forget about the delicious "Banana Pudding."

My husbands family wanted to go here for dinner this evening and based on prior reviews I wasn't excited but I gave it a chance. The most redeeming thing about this meal was the rolls. Most of the food came out cold. I got pot roast which wasn't even a whole portion. Should have had carrots and onion. I didn't see any onion and there were two slices of carrot. Slices! If the food was decent, the atmosphere was fine and the place was clean. The waitress was very nice and the cold food wasn't her fault. At the end of the day, don't go here. They have a lot of work to do!

Being the last BEP left, I had to come back and see how it was. Amazing food and service!

NYE. Reminiscing about the original BEP in Dallas. Took a quick drive out to Arlington and are familiar foods: pot roast, chicken fried steak, and their vegetable plate. Was not disappointed. Service from the front door to receiving the check was friendly and efficient. Restaurant was very clean and had a nice vibe. Thanks to everyone working tonight!

Great food and service for a good price. The waitress was fast and offered plenty or rolls and fresh baked cornbread

Being a senior citizen we look for better prices and Black Eye Pea is hard to beat. Entree and two sides and a drink for $9.99. We had Arron which is very good took great care and made sure everything was to our expectations. Hard to compare with other restaurants when you give service and good food and great cost. You seniors give them a try.

I've been catering for over a year and the service is great. The staff is amazing especially Jennifer. Thank you guys for everything Usxpress appreciate you.

Last night my wife and I enjoyed a great early supper at the BEP. The service was exceptional from the man opening the door for us and our server who was very friendly. I had a chichen fried chicken which was exception as were the glazed carrots, the squash casserole and some great cornbread and rolls. I took some of the cornbread home to be concumed with buttermilk this evening. I can't wait for another opportunity to enjoy the Black Eyed Pea in Arlington in the Highlands Mall.

Me and my Husband went hear today and ordered the Texas size chicken fried chicken. I was so disappointed to receive undercooked chicken fried chicken. I sent it back and it was still undercooked. I will NEVER return to this location again.

We came to have lunch here after we noticed there is still a Black-eyed Pea Restaurant in Arlington!!! They are located in the Arlington Highlands off of I-20 and Matlock... I think it's the only one left in DFW ! I think of this place as more of a dinner place but my mom wanted to go for lunch. I ordered a half of turkey sandwich with a bowl of white bean chicken chili which I have to say was the best part of my lunch .... delicious Unfortunately the sandwich wasn't that good.. the bread was only toasted on one side and the turkey was cold and the lettuce was out of date but I still ate it because I was hungry!! We'll definitely be back for a dinner run soon .

Happy to see a Black Eyed Pea restaurant again. We loved there were plenty of booths, all our food was tasty, and service was great as well. We liked the variety of the lunch specials and thought the price was great too.

For the first time with Black-eyed Pea I ordered my dinner online to be delivered and called the restaurant to follow-up to make sure it came through correctly. Not only was Donna so friendly on the phone when I called but she made sure my order was beyond perfect. She had absolutely no idea not only how much I needed a healthy and filling meal but what a horrible day I was having. She truly made my day :) It's wonderful people like Donna that help those of us when we need it the most!!!! Oh and BTW I ordered it at 7:53PM when they stop taking orders at 8:30PM....she acted like it was 5:00PM ;)

This is the worst carting business ever the food we went to go test tasting was not the food we received the food was dry, hard to eat No flavor the service was horrible the servers were rude very rude and even after we had spoken to the staff about their rudeness they continued to be rude we deserve an apology and half a refund in return for the embarrassinment we suffered and the stomach aches we had to go through and the harassment we went through I will never stop posting this review intill something is done shame on you for taking advantage of hard working people shame on you for lying about your food and service I work for the school district I know alot of people and I will not stop intill you black eye pea resolve this problem intill you corrected the embarrassinment and harassment you cause these people

Fantastic home style southern food. I could not have cooked this meal better myself. Waiter was dynamite and on top of our every need. The Texas chicken fried steak could have fed two. Highly recommend!!!!!

The only Black Eyed Pea left in Texas. Our dinner was hot and flavorful! For home cooking in the area, stop in nice meal.

Was there last week with a small group of friends. Took twenty minutes for a server to show after being seated, continually had to go to the bar for drinks and probably the worst chicken fried steak I've ever had. Dry and overcooked.

Great service great server. Great food. I will be back!!! The location was good we sat by the window. The sun came in, and it was great.

The food is good. The service is good. The restroom not so good. But there's only two Black Eyed Pea restaurants left. This one and one in Colorado. It's worth going if you like or loved Black Eyed Peas!

Wonderful service and nice ambiance. It was very slow so there was ample seating! Our server was very attentive and kind. Husband for the meatloaf with asparagus and fries Oakra and loved it. Both my kids got hamburgers and ate the whole thing!! I got the chicken fried steak with oakra and fried corn on the cob. I don't recommend the fried corn on the cob as the breading in between the kernels was not done. Oakra wasn't fried completely to the breading was slightly mushy. Overall it was ok.

Definitely a family favorite! Pot roast is great. Wonderful service! Family atmosphere. The best thing they have is cheddar broccoli soup! Soooo good! Great rolls and cornbread

Well this is definitely not like the good old days when black eyed pea was great and prevalent around Texas. I believe this is the last one in Texas and it is not great. The service was fine but the food is pretty bad. The pork chops were cookes to well done, the baked fish tasted like it was cooked yesterday and reheated. It was very very dry. My wife and I both had green beans as a side and mine looked fresh and hers looked like yesterday's leftovers. I am really surprised this place is still open. I miss the original black eyed pea and this is not it.

The food is good and there is a variety. No one knew the wifi password. It should be posted somewhere in the restaurant or on the menu. Does anyone know if they offer a military discount? I forgot to ask.

The place was pretty nice and clean. Didn't have any mixed drinks, came here looking for a soulful meal for dinner and this is definitely not that. The grilled pork chops are thin and flavorless. My sides was greens and cabbage. The greens tasted like can greens with no seasoning. The cabbage was bland. Also had the turkey and dressing with Mac and cheese. The turkey was salty, and tasted like it was out of a can. The mac and cheese taste like powder cheese and noodles. The service was pretty good. My date liked the fried tomatoes, and the beer was cold. Don't let the name fool you this so nowhere near soul food.

April 25, Black eye pea in Arlington, TX only two wait staff. Our waiter was busy talking to ex-worker friend and not being attentive to us, long time to get bread first. He sat another couple after us and served them ahead of us, and he said the salmon is taking a little bit longer. When he present to me the salmon the look of the fish was bland, and the taste was even blander. ( I know that they unthaw the fish in the microwave first, and this bring on blandness.) The pot roast ok but does it have MSG in it? The waiter tried top be attentive to our needs. (Right?)

On 8/29 a visit to the Black Eyed Pea in Arlington Texas and I ordered a couple of meals and a couple of desserts when I arrived my order was ready because I ordered online. My husband went in to pick up the order he encountered the manager by the name of Jennifer who was on the phone with another Customer because their order was wrong! He picked up the order noticed that we had two chocolate cakes in the bag when the initial order was four carrot cake. My husband and I was on the phone when he went into the establishment so that he could make sure that he got the right order when he looked in the bag and saw that there was chocolate cake in there he then told the manager Jennifer P. That we had asked for carrot cake. She then told him that we ordered chocolate cake and I was telling him on the phone no I'm looking at the receipt, it was carrot cake. Jennifer P took the chocolate cake went to the back and supposedly got two pieces of carrot cake came back out put the cake into our bag my husband came out and we left. 27 minutes later we arrived home and look in the bag and what do we have chocolate cake I don't even eat chocolate cake so, I know that this was not ordered now, my husband does eat chocolate cake but I don't. So I called that to the establishment and spoke with Jennifer P the manager she then began to tell me that we did request chocolate cake because she initially had carrot cake in the bag when my husband came to pick up the order. She did not, so I proceeded to tell her that he did not request chocolate cake it was carrot and she began to yell at me and state what she stated before that he ordered chocolate cake. Long story short I did not get carrot cake the customer service at the Black Eyed Pea and Arlington Texas managed by Jennifer P has horrible service as well as horrible customer service from the managerial staff only! This is a shame that we have to spend money and be treated like this there is still no reason for this matter and I am still out of $12 for desserts I did not receive or wanted to eat! Please do better Black eyed , this is why you only have one establishment left I'm sure and with managers like Jennifer P you won't have this one for long!

Haven't been in a few years but just as good as the last time. I ordered meatloaf which was awesome. Love the rolls but you and I both know the honey is fake which is something I would like to see change. Nice people who served us quickly and happily.

I saw this restaurant on a billboard. It sounded just like one I'd like to try. I've never eaten in Arlington before. This place has been around for 45 years or so, so I imagine everyone has eaten here at least once. There were so many choices around, at least 25? I decided to follow the billboard, and I was glad I did. It was about 11:15 AM when most places were just getting started. The Black-eyes pea was totally ready. The service was prompt, the waitress didn' t"hang-out", but did everything appropriately. The food was delicious. I had a spud stuffed with pot roast. It was the best one I've ever had. My partner had meatloaf with black eyed peas. He's still talking about it, several days later. Our check was under $30., including soft drinks. The menu had something for everyone, and was family friendly.

Was very excited to find this serving the original recipes and foods that were always my favorite comfort food. Unfortunately, huge let down: 1. Service portions were miniscule a. Ordered avocado for burger and received two tiny, thin slices (1/16 of a piece of the fruit) b. Side order of onion rings was 4 rings c. Cup of broccoli cheese soup had ONE piece of broccoli d. Paid extra on veggie plate for asparagus and received 5 pieces thinner than chopsticks and equally as woody and inedible 2. Grossly under staffed. Understand everyone is Scampering for help but 2 servers for the entire place at lunchtime, tables unbussed and extremely long wait time for simple things like tea and to order made this our first and last visit. Guess it's true--you can't go home

Food is so good. Prices reasonable. Great service. Server Richard very good. Lot of booths. I like that. Very clean and roomy. In the highlands in Arlington Tx. near Pluckers. We love this place.

Colton was our server. And we had a birthday party of at least 25 people. He had every single thing in order and didn't skip a beat. Prices were very reasonable place was clean and in order and the other staffaswell were very friendly and all had smiles. We will be going back. Thank you Colton for keeping it together for us

Oh how the mighty have fallen. I have been going to BEP in this area all my adult life. I usually get great food and service, including this location after it first opened. Tonight 3/2/20 my takeout was another story: I got no gravy for my chicken fried chicken, got a small container of 10 LITTLE mushrooms instead of the usual sized Market Mushrooms, and got 19 medium to small UNDERCOOKED FRIES (easy to count such a small portion). The whole thing was like a hastily thrown together kids meal. The chicken itself was tough and dry (different/cheaper supplier?), so much so not even the gravy would not have saved it. Not a place I would recommend on Foodies of Arlington

Yeah, I've got thoughts. Through Yelp, you offered a 20% off discount to redeem by checking in. I did and ordered dinner for three. Then no discount was applied. Well played Black Eyed Pea. And.... The story didn't end there. When we got to the restaurant at the scheduled pick up time, they said they knew nothing about the order. They blamed Grubhub on not passing schemed orders to them (this is actually the second restaurant I've heard this from). The girl at the bar said she'd take care of my 20% discount, but I have no idea how she's going to pull that off since she didn't even know about the order. The actual eating experience? We got two chicken fried chicken dinners. The batter was cooked too hot and was burned on both. Many years ago this was our comfort restaurant. Now I don't know how they even stay in business. Another edit- Since Grubhub processed the transaction the other day, I have gotten two fake emails from PayPal claiming my account has been limited in some way until I follow their crooked link. (I used PayPal to pay for the meals.) Somehow, Grubhub is either partnering with the devil or has weak security procedures in place to be a conduit to their customers for others intent on evil.

Shame on you Black eye pea for seating a table then allowing all servers to ignore. When our group was seated a container of Tea was removed and sat on another table for 15min. We asked for the manager we were told the 6 servers were busy. REALLY REALLY!? We left. If I could give a 0 I would.

Its me trying to give yall a chance and ya have the nerve to put this shit in a box and serve it .... And give me the wrong sides ... there is no way yall DIDNT put this in the microwave

TERRIBLE! Our waitress was so unenthusiastic & had the personality of a grape. We waited a really long time for her to initially come to our table, and simply take our drink order. There was a gnat in my husband's tea when she brought it. We showed her, and she replaced the beverage with a poker face & no apology. My entree (fish) was good, but the sides were bland. This was such a sad experience, as I remember how good this restaurant was. I don't wish to return.

When my family and I walked in the door, we were sat in the back near the kitchen although there was plenty of seating up front. It was not until we attempted to move ourselves that we were offered alternative seating. In addition, we had two kids with us but were not offered a kid's menu until we asked for one. However, once our server Ashley came out, she redeemed the experience with her friendly smile and attentiveness. The other redemption came when I bit into the N'Awlins Catfish. It was so flavorful and the spice was just right. Dare I say, it rivaled some of the Cajun and seafood restaurants that I've had. Also, as usual, the rolls and cornbread were hot, fresh, and buttery.
