Had a very polarizing experience here. The food is very good, and most of the menu is a great value for the money. The atmosphere is absolutely lovely and feels very cozy. Everyone was very friendly too! Unfortunately, i am knocking a few stars down. The service speed when we went was horrible. We arrive at we were seated at 5:30, and ordered by 5:45, and didn't have our meals until 6:45. At no point did any of the service or management team seem concerned about the wait. No one popped over to say acknowledge the delay or anything. Hell we couldn't even get the water glasses refilled without actively flagging someone down. It's also worth noting that while the portion sizes in the schnitzel dishes are great, the goulash portion my wife ordered was significantly smaller. On a night when the restaurant has their house in order I bet it's a simply wonderful experience. However, that is simply not what we encountered.

I really enjoyed the visit and it is definitely among my top 5 restaurants in Hamilton. The waitress Ally is very nice, helpful and explain everything in details, the atmosphere is very comfortable and welcoming, traditional German decor, the food is delicious, there are daily specials, and there is a great selection of desserts. Overall, I really love it and will definitely come back more often.

If you’re looking for comfort food in Hamilton, well this is the place! All the staff here is welcoming and kind. My server Shania was attentive and sweet. You do get an excellent amount of food for the price. I absolutely enjoyed my time here and the atmosphere brings back to a more simple time. Love it here and thank you team!

We drove about 45 minutes to eat here. We always enjoy our meal here it's awesome!! This time was the best ever. Food was delicious, fresh and hot. Server was also fantastic. Could decide salad with blue cheese dressing or meatball soup so had both. Very yummy. Keep it up will be back soon.

Wow, after hearing so many great things about the Black Forest from veteran Hamiltonians, I can definitely agree with everyone. We usually make the trek to Kitchener for a proper German Schnitzel (Metro on Victoria) but I think we just found our replacement! Definitely look forward to returning!

Google
The place has an unique interior. Service was friendly and helpful, food was typical German food, schnitzel and sausages etc. The schnitzel was huge, enough to feed 2 people. The side portions were also generous. You will not leave hungry. Beer was good.

Google
Excellent schnitzel! Huge portions - even from their lunch menu. I had the Schnitzel on a Kaiser. Schnitzel is normally very dry without any sauce or lemons. The fried onions really balanced it out. Friendly waitresses in old-fashioned German dresses. Prompt service. Clean washrooms. My only caveat is the long lineups on the weekends. The restaurant is located in an old building so air conditioning does not run as strong in the waiting area. Drinks are expensive considering you only get a small/medium glass cup. One more warning and this is a big X for Hamilton. The city-owned lots don't accept credit cards, only coins.

I went here last night to celebrate my 1 month anniversary with my girlfriend. The restaurant is very quaint and quiet, seems to be a very popular place for family and friends to gather for a nice meal and catch up. My girlfriend and I ordered a ceasar salad to start, and then the large Vienna schnitzel meal which was very large and filling, it was served with potatoes that were seasoned too perfection. The schnitzel was very good and battered nice and crispy with excellent flavor. I also ordered a couple glasses of red wine that paired well with the meal. Afterwards I ordered a slice of lemon coconut cake which was very tasty, moist, and fresh. The meal was so big we had to grab the rest to go which we enjoy again the next day. I highly recommend this establishment.

Yelp
I would rate this 4.5 stars but rounded up because honestly this restaurant was pretty great. I went with my sister, her husband (who has allergies) and their baby. I love German food and this place delivered. I started with a German wheat beer, 18 ounces, which was nice and smooth. We got pretzels to start. I found them too salty, but my sister was a fan. I dealt with it by putting a bunch of cheese sauce on. Honestly they could give a bit more cheese sauce because of this but overall this dish was fine. I would try something else though WHEN we return, because we are returning. All our meals came with salad. My brother-in-law got potato salad, I got the house salad and my sister got Caesar salad. All of the salads were good but the potato salad was awesome - vinegar heavy, rather than creamy for reference. My brother-in-law said he'd return for the potato salad alone. For our meals, I got goulash and dumplings while everyone else got schnitzel. They ordered better. While I really liked the rye dumplings, I found the goulash meat a touch dry. It wasn't bad and the sauce helps offset that but I've had better goulash elsewhere. More importantly their schnitzel was better. My sister got jaeger schnitzel and despite the large serving of sauce on top, the schnitzel (which you can get breaded or not and she get breaded) was still crispy. The spaetzle was also delicious. They have a nice kids menu, though it's not on paper so the waiter will need to share it with you. I remember a kinder schnitzel, which is what we got my nephew, and spaetzle Mac n cheese. I should mention I ate my nephew's leftovers the next day and the schnitzel was still good and crisp. For dessert they have an assortment of Dufflet cakes and apple strudel. If you have room (or if you're like me and you don't but want to try it anyways), I recommend the strudel. I got it without ice cream because it sits on a delicious vanilla creme anglais. The meal took a while, but I doubt we would have noticed if we didn't have a baby. Also the staff was very kind and hospitable. Price was right too - after taxes and a 20% tip, the bill was only about $150 for the 4 of us and we had 3 courses. Overall, we definitely will be returning as this was one of the better restaurants we've tried as of late.

Yelp
Wow That Vienna schnitzel (chicken) Was amazing Maybe best I've ever had The combo w krombacher (Austrian beer..?) Was the perfect 4:30 pm meal

Steve C.

Yelp
We have been going here the odd time since 1972 and it's always excellent with great staff great ambiance and a truly wonderful experience. Their preparation and quality your meal is always the same even since 1972 amazing. We have tried different varieties of schnitzels and their goulash is really flavorful. We have had their apple strudel and it's excellent and we will have to try another desert feature. Bravo Black Forest

Yelp
I have been looking for a great German restaurant since I got out here. I have found it!! I am absolutely in love with this adorable and authentic little place. The servers were wearing very nicely themed German dresses and the hospitality was something you would get in a quaint little Bavarian town. The soup of the day was meatball and it was so good my husband ordered a second helping. It was was warm rich and full of flavour. It was very clearly made from scratch using quality ingredients. Very tasty. I had the Hollande (hope I got that correct) Schnitzel with fried potato's and ordered a side of the braised purple cabbage. It was pure bliss. The place is awesome. Come and eat here!

Adrian H.

Yelp
My buddy Bruce and I just finished up lunch here and honestly, was a fantastic meal!

Tim B.

Yelp
Wanted to have some German fair this evening. This place is a little bit rustic. Friendly service. And the food was OK. Fair enough serving size. But schnitzel was a little bit small. And the sides were a little bit overdone. Not the greatest wine list. Made selecting a wine a little difficult for dinner.

Tim L.

Yelp
This is an institution in Hamilton, and many of my co-workers recommend this restaurant. Friends and I visited this place as a final pit stop of a Hamilton food crawl in August, and the expectation was met. The portions were large and the quality of the food was evidently there. I had the Vienna Schnitzel with a side of mushroom sauce. Also had the famous meatball soup as a starter and home fries on the side. The meatball soup was delightful but was a bit lukewarm. The Vienna Schnitzel was moist and tender. The mushroom sauce was amazing and not too salty. Overall a great visit and a chance to come back soon.

Yelp
It's been a long time since we ate here, with COVID closures interrupting life. The menu format has changed quite a bit since last time. For openers, we missed the basket of rye bread - they served a couple of soft white buns instead. That is just not German! We ordered the small Wiener Schnitzel (previously called the Schnitzelburger) and it was as good as ever. The house salad was also still excellent. The Spaetzle were a little bit oily and not pan-browned enough - that was another disappointment. I also ordered the red cabbage and that was as good as ever. Our server, Britney, was very friendly and provided good service. We will come back and I hope the rye bread and Spaetzle issues will be solved by then.

Mohsin B.

Yelp
Our server "Bob" was fantastic. Bob, you say? Inside joke! She seated us outside on the well-covered patio on the Saturday afternoon of the 2016 September Art Crawl. Bob was very warm, inviting, and efficient. What was most memorable was her sense of humour and how she connected with us individually. I normally do not tip 20 % but this experience and her skills are bad ass! The food was plentiful, would have given it 5 stars but the service wowed me more than the food and beer. I would suggest potatoes over spaetzle, and soup over salad (as sides)... Thanks again "Bob"! We will be "Bach" next year when we visit Hamilton! xo, Mohsin (the good looking brown boy who took your picture) P.S. May The Mercedes Be With You! ;-)

Yelp
The Black Forest Inn is one of the best restaurants to get your Austrian and German food cravings under control. Since 1967 this restaurant has built up its reputation with Chef Wolfgang sending out Schnitzel that is good as it is big. Weiner Schnitzel, Rham Schnitzel, Jaeger Schnitzel, Schnitzel Erzherzog Johann, Schnitzel a la Holstein, Paprika Schnitzel....holy Shitzel that's a lot of Schnitzel! With this many varieties your guaranteed to have a favorite for everyone. Mine, the Wiener Schnitzel, was just all round delicious. Flavorful and tender. Not over breaded and the right amount of seasoning. There is nothing I would have changed about it. Not even the size, despite half of it was hanging over the plate it was so big. The menu has lots of Austrian and German options, but serves up continental food also. My uncle ordering a Hungarian stew with incredibly tender meat and a rich, meaty broth. It would have been nice to try some of their sausages on the menu but I still wanted to leave room for more food. I'd certainly like to go back and try them.

Yelp
This place was dated but it was quite charming. A love meat and potato dinner before a preseason Leafs game for a friends birthday made the trip to the Hammer pretty good We had the Black Forest Inn plate (for two), an order to schnitzel and potatoes and an order of goulash and spätzle amongst 8 people. It was the epitome of comfort food! Boy were the guys lethargic after having consumed a lot of it--we even had a doggie bag. $30/pp including pints. The staff were very friendly and lovely. We had a great time!

Lina B.

Yelp
We were looking for a while for a new place for German food as the Musket shut down inevitably. This place is right on for food let me tell you!! Decor is dated but who cares when you are heaving into your face mouthfulls of delicious Deutsche food!!!! Got the meat platter for 2 and just the presentation alone gets a 5! Will be back in a couple weeks for sure! Thanks from Mississauga!!

Yelp
I've had my eye on this place for a while, especially since it's one for the more interesting restaurant choices that Hamilton has to offer. The outside is decorated in full force as a country house and easy to spot beside the modern shops on the same street. Expect the aesthetic to carry right into the restaurant, complete with costumed waitresses and related decorations. It's like you stepped into a German theme park for a meal. The bean soup starter was hearty and absolutely delicious - and what I liked the most from the whole meal. It was bursting with flavor and felt like a warm hug after being in the cold. I would definitely recommend getting the soup over the salad. I had the Hungarian Goulash with Spaetzel for lunch. The chunks of meat came swimming in a small lake of gravy with a random slice of tomato and pickle parked on the side. The meat itself was dry, but the gravy saved the day especially mixed with the spaetzel. Stealing some schnitzel off a neighboring plate, the ratio of meat to breading reminded me of the ones I've had in Austria. One of the better schnitzel's I've had in a long while. In all, it was an interesting environment to have a meal. If I ever find myself in Hamilton craving bean soup and schnitzel, I will be back.

Yelp
After a long day of hunting down waterfalls in the Hamilton area, we made our destination the Black Forest Inn. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. Walking into the restaurant, you could smell the food cooking. Delicious! I ordered the meatball soup, the cordon blue with pork, home fried potatoes and a vegetable medley. There are no words to describe how authentic and delicious the food was. All the dishes arrived hot and ready to eat. We didn't have to wait long. For dessert I had ordered the chocolate mouse cake. It was so light, and decadent. Would be super easy to eat a whole cake, not just a slice! The food was absolutely delicious. Cannot wait to go again! Worth the drive, from wherever you are!

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Very delicious! Came recommended so I had high expectations. Something about those potatoes were heavenly! Would definitely come back again!

David B.

Yelp
Not impressed.Sorry but it wasn't pleasant the best part of the meal was the server she was great. But unfortunately the meal was lousy. My wife had the goulash and it was all gravy little meat and it was tough and tasteless.I had the schnitzel and it had no flavor at all except for the lemon I put on it.The spatzel tasted old and like the grill it was cooked on just tasteless. The place was out dated and drab needs some help.Just a waste of 40 bucks

Ania K.

Yelp
Food was worth the wait. It's a popular joint so be prepared to wait around dinner time (we went on a weekend). Definitely popular with locals. Also had to wait quite a while for the food to get to our table but it was good so it wasn't the end of the world. The whole group enjoyed their picks and the portions were so big we all took leftovers home. Delicious food, definitely catered towards meat lovers, but had a few veggie/fish items available. I remember seeing this on You Gotta Eat Here and it was worth the hype.

Erin A.

Yelp
Arrived just after 4 pm on Sunday and place was already full but luckily got seated right away. Food was delicious. My Hungarian goulash was so tender. Portion sizes are big so come hungry.

Yelp
I'm visiting my boys in Hamilton and they took me to Black Forest Inn for a-day-late Mothers Day celebration. Many years ago, Black Forest was one of the restaurants my friends and I used to meet for birthday dinners. Excellent food and the servings were huge! I actually missed this place and was excited when I heard this is where my boys were taking me for Mothers Day dinner. The place still has its warmth and special character and our server was very attentive and always right on cue. I ordered the Black Forest Plate, my oldest son the Hollandia, my youngest the Jaeger. For a side, we all had their seasonal vegetables, which was a big mistake because it was a big mess of pre-frozen broccoli, discolored brownish carrots and cauliflower (purposely hidden beneath some bright orange carrots) that was piled up and covered half the plate. My bratwurst was dry and came with one end broken off. The Jaeger was a piece of crumbly meat covered in brown mushroom sauce that fell apart when sliced. The Hollandia was about the only good thing happening for us at our table. Black Forest Inn is one of many places in Hamilton that's unfortunately going downhill and will not be going back again. Our server was very pleasant and made our meal palatable. She earned the stars for this place.

Dan G.

Yelp
We stopped here while driving through the city, and my friend recommended this place. I have to say that the portions were really big, but the food was just average. Most food was swimming in greasy and like-warm sauces. The sausage were okay but the sauce was not very tasty. The toast with salmon was a bit of a joke - there was almost no salmon, just a tiny pea size fish. I had a good laugh about it. I would probably return to try some other dish, but only if I'm out of other options.

Gina T.

Yelp
I love this place, its been the to go place for our family for years, since I was a child. I live in Ohio now but for my birthday whenever I'm home this is the requested spot to go for dinner. Great drinks, love the waiting area. They don't take reservations so it's nice to have a seating area that's not just a bar. You can order your drinks and sit and chat at a table. Food is amazing, huge portions and well worth the price. My own kids now enjoy it was well. Staff is always pleasent and do a great job!

Oliver G.

Yelp
The food here was delicious but the wait, not so delicious... still got to sit in the "lounge" and get drinks while you wait, which is good, but we waited over 1.5hrs to get seated. We got there at 7:15 and got seated at almost 8:45pm on a Saturday. The food was definitely worth the wait though. Tried the Cordon Blue Schnitzel and it was what I expected and more. The portion sizes are huge too, so go hungry! (Although you might get hungry while you wait....). I would like to try this place during the week when it's less busy and you don't have an über long wait...

Will M.

Yelp
My family have been loyal customers of the Black Forest Inn for over 40 years. For as long as I remember, the Black Forest Inn has provided a warm comfortable family atmosphere, great authentic European and German cuisine and is a place I look forward to visiting for special occasions. Their soups are truly a highlight of the meal. My personal favorites include the Black Forest Plate and the Vienna Schnitzel. The Spaetzle is a real treat as is the excellent selection of cakes for desert. The cheesecake is a mouth watering treat. Although the ownership has changed, the attention to quality and hospitality remains. Truly the best restaurant in the Hamilton area.

Jackie P.

Yelp
Some of the best schnitzel in town. Food is great, service is great and the actually ambiance is wonderland very German. Absolutely love it here. Not too many vegetarians options but perfect if you are looking for some nice chicken schnitzel

Stephen H.

Yelp
This place reminds me of my time in Germany. Came to Hamilton for a day and this place was a wonderful place to eat. Staff: they were friendly, and very attentive. Always had my water refills and constantly checked in even though they were pretty busy. Top notch service! Ambience: we sat in the booths. There was lots of German/Austrian themed wallpaper and comfy seating. Food: I had the filet of sole with a potato soup and a side of potato salad. The filet was nice, thin and perfectly breaded. The soup was flavourful and delicious. The salad was very simple but seemed very vinegar-y, should've probably opted for the garden salad. Also had the apple strudel for desert. It was very tart for me otherwise their food was great. Overall I would visit again if I was in the area! A little tart sometimes but that's personal preferences.

Nick B.

Yelp
Okay, okay. we went because it was on that obnoxious "You Gotta Eat Here" show - just as we were musing about the culinary delights of Europe one day. I had high expectations, and rightly so. We drove 90 minutes to get to this place. It was packed, but there's a "lounge" area where you can sit and wait for a table, and there's drinks service while you wait. The menu is great - lots of options but not overpowering. Every entree is really a full meal - soup or salad comes with it as does nice rye bread, probably sourced from the Denninger's across the street. (Oh the memories, a one time girlfriend worked at Denninger's in Oakville - I spent far too much time there...) I had planned to get Bauernschmaus but instead went with their other combination plate - the Black Forest Plate - and with potato soup which was excellent. Food came out fast and friendly, and it was tasty. We quickly realized why everyone was leaving with takeout containers, portions are nothing if not generous. The best part - the prices - the value is really good - $75 all in including 1.5L of proper German beer between us and a couple of slices of Black Forest cake to finish - and with enough to take home for another meal. That's a pretty great night out all in all.

Brian M.

Yelp
It is a neat atmosphere, but the food is just so-so. I don't consider myself a schnitzel connoisseur by any means - but wow that is a tough piece of meat! I guess they hope that the gallon or so of sauce they put on it will help moisturize it back to life - nope. I prefer a tasty, well cooked piece of meat with just enough sauce to compliment it (and preferably on the side) - they needed to advertise their schnitzel as "Soup-with meat at the bottom". Yeah, I know this place was featured on You Gotta Eat Here, but trust me, head up the road a bit to Zum Linzer if you want good German style food.

I K.

Yelp
My bf and I decided to order some take out and heard about this restaurant from the show "You've Gotta Eat Here!". We ordered the Hungarian Goulash and Beef Rolls. Both were delicious. The beef pieces in the Goulash however were a bit dry, the spaetzel was delicious soaked into the sauce. The beef rolls (rindsruladen) was perfect! The meat was Juicy and the stuffing was well seasoned. The cabbage had phenomenal flavour as well as the potatoes..this dish was a 20/10! The salad and special house dressing was delicious and the carrots were pickled. The Apfel Strudel was fluffy and sweet and the perfect ending to an amazing meal.

Kevin Y.

Yelp
Having been to Germany many times and experiencing the food and culture first hand, I was looking forward to the Black Forest Inn. Here's the thing that people have to understand about traditional German food. It is comfort food, it consists largely of meat and potatoes. There likely will not be a whiz bang, fireworks, party in your mouth depending upon the region. I see the word 'bland' come up in many of the reviews. I think one has to understand that German food is what it is. I ordered the Jaeger Schnitzle mit Spaetzle, and it tasted like the version I had in Frankfurt. It is a hearty meal one would eat before going out to hunt or work the land. Understand where the food came from and bring it into context as a high calorie food which is consumed in a northern country so that one may survive the harsh climate and condition of the country. Not all German food are the same mind you. Bordering France there is French influence, It is more Eastern European in the east...etc. Context! If this were any other cuisine, I'd say yeah maybe a little bland. However, in context of the food and where it comes from? It's authentic. It's real. That's is how it is, still delicious...in a different way. A nice Weiss Bier with the meal and then Apple Strudel for dessert was the perfect combination. The only complaint I have about the food is lack of vegetables. I felt the same whilst in Germany, and I felt it at the Black Forest Inn...my body was screaming for veggies. The little salad and tiny amount of vegetables didn't quite satisfy that part. I suppose that adds to the authenticity. I will certainly come back for the authentic food and decor which throws one into a Bavarian frame of mind.

Jess H.

Yelp
First time trying German food and enjoyed the Vienna Schnitzel and potatoes. Tasted like the German version of Pork Katsu without the sauce. Also had the Black Forest Plate for one and was a bit disappointed as it took about 40mins to arrive and wasn't hot when it was served. Food was a little bland for our tastings (Spaetzle and dumpling especially) but would probably order the other speciality dishes offered next time. Sat on the patio and was entertained by watching the unique characters of downtown Hamilton. Waitress was nice but not attentive, and the food did not make up for the wait time. Enjoyed the meal mostly due to the company :)

Veronica M.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite finds in the downtown Hamilton area. My family has been coming here for years for authentic European food. The schnitzel are to die for, the staff is very friendly, and the prices are very reasonable for the huge portions of food you get!! I suggest getting there a little early because they always have a lot of people in their waiting lounge. But you can drink to your hearts content while waiting to be seated on Imported German beers. :) Even the decor is very authentic with lots of coo coo clocks :) Still the best Vienna schnitzel I've ever had. I live in Vancouver now but I always make a point to go there before I leave. :)

Mark D.

Yelp
Been coming here since I was a kid, and never let down. My parents came here in the 60's. Apparently it was the place to be. It still is now. Quality food and great value for your money every time. LOVE!! STILL AMAZING FOOD. SO CONSISTENT.

Bonny M.

Yelp
I have been going to this resturant for over 30 yrs and it was a fantastic place to eat unfortunately it was sold and there are new owners. They have changed the quality of food and the service. As a party of two we were told that they need to maximize the seating so we were by passed a number of times for larger groups. This is ridiculous so as a result of the new policy and bland recipes I will not be recommending or returning to this previously much loved resturant.

Shawn N.

Yelp
After a short wait we were seated. Great selection on the menu. Very fair prices. We had 2 baskets of fresh rye bread. A couple delicious German beers. All 5 of our meals were outstanding. Big portions. 4 of us had to take some home. Deserts were yummy. Check came & it was reasonable. One of my favourite places. Can't wait to return.

Amy J.

Yelp
Truly charming place, but the food is meh for the price. Had some schnitzel in mushroom sauce and it was hearty, tasty, large. This style of home cooking would be at home in the 1970's. Maybe there should be an extra star for the cuckoo clock collection? - many splendid, practically mind blowing clocks with fresh killed game and guns carved in wood, etc. The service was excellent with great Bavarian clothing. Maybe if it were less pricey I'd eat here again..

Kiran S.

Yelp
Hamilton, you have surprised me with your dining options. I went to Black Forest Inn after hearing rave reviews. I was not disappointed. One thing-they don't take reservations. Which means you might have to wait for a table on a busy weekend evening. We got there around 8pm on a Saturday and waited about 30min. It wasn't bad as there is a seating area for people waiting and you can have drink. The ambience is cute. All seating is in little booths. The waitresses wear German outfits. Our waitress was charmingly attentive and easy to speak with. What is most impressive about BF is the food. Wow portion sizes! I ate maybe half my meal of goulash. And believe me, it was so tasty I tried my bardest to eat the whole thing. For those on diets or looking to avoid carbs...don't come here :). This is carb heaven, between the wonderfully flavoured potato and noodle sides. Mmmm...mouth watering just writing out this review. My friend had the schnizel. Again, amazing portion sizes. He couldn't finish his meal either. I really enjoyed my experience at BF and will be sure to return.

Sue B.

Yelp
I wouldn't even give it one star if it wasn't for the nice waitress. The food was tasteless bland no seasoning used. I would never recommend this place or ever go back.

Judy W.

Yelp
Best German Restaurant in Hamilton. Good place to grab a bite! The environment is really cozy and warm. The meat ball soup is very hot an tasty, so as the fried Pork is very big.

Andrew I.

Yelp
Took the drive down here with a friend of mine. We both had two entrees, and each entree came with a "free" side. Don't get too excited though because the sides are pretty small. The soup for example comes in a coffee cup sized bowl. That being said, I'm Polish and I can taste how authentically European their food is. So if that's what you're looking for this is a great place to stop by. Service is great, no complaints there. Prices were average as well as portions. People say the portions are huge...but I ate two entrees as previously mentioned (and I'm a 168 lb 6 foot male) with no issues. This included the pepper schnitzel, and farmer's feast platter. Might stop by here again but not before comparing it to the other German restaurant I've heard good things about as well, really close by.

Lisa B.

Yelp
What a wonderful meal! We arrived and order our drinks along with the pretzels and salami and cheese plate to start our meal! The pretzels were delicious...served with a warm beer cheese! The salami and cheese plate was served with delicious ham, salami and cheese!!! We were a party of six and order the weiner schnitzel, the chicken cordon blue schnitzel, Hungarian Beef Goulash, and the Black Forest Platter! All of the meals were outstanding! We had with our meals....spatzle, German potatoe salad and red cabbage! For dessert we had a mix of the Black Forest cake, chocolate torte, and the apple strudel! All were tasty...but the winner was the warm apple strudel!!! Such a fun place, with great food to spend an evening with great friends!!!

Stewart L.

Yelp
Oh baby, this is the stuff. Ever since the Schwaben Inn closed down, we have been getting our soup, noodles and sausages at the BFI. Amazing stuff. Awesome portions. Very authentic, hot and delicious!

Anmol G.

Yelp
Have been meaning to go to this place for a while... a. because it's unique amongst the Hamilton restaurant scene b. have never tried this cuisine before So a whole bunch of us friends decided to come here for dinner before we headed off for winter break. Plus, we had been really busy the previous few weeks so it was a nice "reunion". The place is quite big with very nice décor. Not as busy as they suggested on the phone though, :P, but they were right about the fact that it really frees up by 7-730. Excellent service. I got the jager schnitzel - pork was on the dry side, but the sauce was quite nice. Potatoes are very good, a sentiment echoed by everyone around the table. A couple people got the Vienna - they loved their massive piece of meat. Other orders included the schnitzelburger, bratwurst, sausage and one person....decided to get the fish special....he had eaten fish and chips the day prior. I think people enjoyed their food for the most part. The menu isn't cheap but for the quality of the experience and the portion sizes - it's reasonable. Very comfortable. Hope to return again to try something else out!

Yelp
First visit here and plan to return and order a different entree. Jaeger schnitzel was good but I have had better. Good service by Rosalyn and beer was cold and good. Can't give it a five star because I have had better German food in the USA. Atmosphere is very old European which adds to the experience. Arrived at 5:30 on Friday and had to wait about 5-10 minutes to be seated so go early!!!

Yelp
Good, solid German food. Not the best I've had (the schnitzel disappoints). But you could do worse.

Yelp
I went there with a group of friends(7 of us) on a Sunday night and we were told there will be least 1 hour wait but they don't know how long for sure. The waiting room was almost as big as half of the dining room. Can't they just hire a few more staff and serve more customers there? After 45 mins wait and not sure how much longer we still had to wait, we decided to go somewhere else. The waitresses didn't care about us and was inpatient when we asked questions. We drove a few more minutes to another restaurant called La luna. We all really enjoyed it there( great food and services) I went back on a weekday night when passing Hamilton on the way back to toronto. There was still 20 mins wait but we decided to try this time. To be honest, the food was pretty average. Definitely NOT worth the wait. I guess it is popular because lack of restaurant selections in Hamilton. There are better German polish restaurants in toronto which have better food and service. Will Not go back.

Yelp
Ordered three chicken schnitzels. Got three pork schnitzels. Everything seemed over saturated with grease. Plates are (deliberately?) too small for the portion sizes. Service was rushed and impersonal, though polite and efficient. Won't return. Its heyday is over.

Yelp
Ordered the Black Forest plate. Amazing food, unreal portions. Definitely reccomend.

Yelp
Hello. Just a wee warning on the beer price. I recently ordered a pint of dark beer. The price is $10.15. I found this to be quite high. I wish to be fair, and say that the food was great. Well prepared and high quality food, but the price of beer, is too high. Sadly, at $10.15 per pint, I won't be back-that is an outrageous price to pay.

Yelp
The food is always excellent, the atmosphere is very German, and the people are always friendly. This is my favorite place to eat in Hamilton and I have been close to 100 times. Pusta schnitzel is the best! Tom
