I visited this spot on lunch today. I ordered the bang bang shrimp and hibachi salmon and it came with onion soup and an egg roll. I liked the onion soup but the entree had no flavor and my salmon was hard definitely overcooked and I didnt like the white sauce. Our host and waiter was nice just disappeared with the lack of flavor in the food.

Google
So cozy and relaxed vibe, dim, t lights on tables, light music etc. We had the Crab Rangoon and like a previous person said “They are the best crab Rangoon I’ve ever had in my life”!! We also had the Gyoza and they were pretty good also. We ordered the Mongolian beef for our main course and it was also the best Mongolian beef I’ve ever had other than PF Chang’s lol but the sauce is perfect!!! Then we ordered two sushi rolls, The lobster Monster and The Hero! Both were amazing but that Lobster monster was the best sushi roll I had ever eaten before and it is worth every single penny!!!

Google
This is a pleasant, roomy, softly-lit, comfortable restaurant with table, booth, and seating at the bar. My server was friendly, helpful, and had good knowledge of the menu items. I ordered the "Double-Decker Tuna" sushi and Wonton Soup. Both were delicious and served in an artistic manner. I dined on a Friday night around 7:30 and was surprised that there was plenty of seating for such a nice, inviting restaurant. I returned a couple of weeks later, got the same "Double Decker Tuna" sushi and also ordered the calamari appetizer - Wow! What a delicious combination of fried calamari on delicious sauteed veggies.

Google
After attending an event, we decided to try this place out. Wow. The freshest / best tasting sashimi, that I’ve had in years. Our server, who’s going back to Indonesia, was outstanding. We will be back.

I have never been more satisfied with a restaurant experience in my life. This place takes every customer into account and treats them with respect and kindness. Our waitress, Linda, did everything in her power to give us the best dining experience possible. She was fast, kind, and very attentive. And the restaurant is gorgeous! They decorated it beautifully with hearts and lights to honor the holiday. And the food is phenomenal, the sushi is high quality and the appetizers were DELICIOUS! I cannot recommend enough!

Google
The atmosphere is so relaxing and quiet (you don't have to scream over the music). Our waitress was so nice and attentive. Making sure we had everything we needed and even recommended some specialty rolls - which were delicious. We ordered 4 types and got the boat! The rolls were absolutely amazing and filling! And it is in a convenient spot. Will definitely be coming back here!

Google
I’ve been coming to Black Ginger for years now and it’s consistently amazing. The service is excellent, the restaurant itself is cute and cozy, and the food is ALWAYS going to hit. My personal favorite is the Mezemen Ramen with the beef brisket, but there’s seriously so much to choose from. Will continue to come back to this great establishment!

Lunch menu: Spicy Chicken Hibachi Includes: clear onion soup and spring roll. Hibachi steak Includes: clear onion soup and spring roll. Great atmosphere. Everything was perfect. The spicy chicken was amazing.

Yelp
Fantastic food and employees. Hard working family owned restaurant. Hands down great place to eat and drink and be around lovely servers.

Yelp
The best Sushi and Habachi in Greensboro. Never crowded. A hidden gem. Has excellent service and highly recommend

Yelp
We stopped mid day on a Saturday. The music is an entire vibe here. I actually love it. They were jamming. lol The waiter was super friendly and offered suggestions. I really enjoyed his service. The gyoza was so good. I don't know what kind of sauce came with it, but I would buy a bottle of it. I really appreciated the extra seasoning served to us. It added a great touch to the food. The veggie roll was fresh. I chose a miso ramen. It came in a nice size bowl and full of ingredients including shrimp. It was absolutely delicious. I finished the entire thing. I would most definitely return. Great spot! Good food, great vibe and excellent service.

Yelp
I went on a Wednesday around 6:25, placed my order online and it was hot and ready when I arrived. The staff was pleasant and super welcoming and they had a list of drink specials offered during the week. My meal was a little smaller than expected, but it was a normal and reasonable adult sized portion(I'm just accustomed to the ridiculous amount of rice usually received from other places) the vegetables were seasoned and cooked perfectly and they weren't too crunchy or too soft. The chicken on it's own was so well seasoned and juicy, which was so nice because it's easy to overcook chicken breast. Overall I really enjoyed my meal and would definitely return to try other items

Yelp
This was a great spot for lunch! The inside was huge and super nice with a mix of traditional Japanese mixed with modern American decor. Everything was nice and peaceful. I got the feeling that it comes alive later, and I think it would be a great dinner spot. Service was good. Our waitress was nice, checked on us several times, but didn't hover when we were done and just catching up. The food was great! I took advantage of the lunch special bento and we split crab Rangoon, which I barely got a picture of because we dove straight in ! Great experience overall. Would try again.

Yelp
I have never had a less than exceptional experience at Black Ginger. My go to entree is the brothless ramen with brisket. My friend got his with pork and both were amazing. The pork was suuuuper flavorful. All of the staff are extremely sweet and the restaurant is always clean. I've also never had to wait for a table. We've been coming here for years and will continue to.
google avatar

Melanie C.

Yelp
I came during lunch. Service was great. I got spicy crab and spicy eel. It was really good and a good portion size for the cost. Soup was hot and yummy. I'll be back.
google avatar

Clay C.

Yelp
I came here for the first time after wanting to try a new sushi place for lunch. The sushi was good and I feel like I got more than I have in other lunch specials at other places but I'm not 100% sure. The eel sauce wasn't the best (I dip in that instead of soy sauce) I've had but it wasn't bad. The service was good, there were only four people dining in during lunch time. My friend goes a lot and says it's never busy. It was a good price for what I got and I will definitely come back.

Yelp
My family loves Black Ginger! We ordered crab Rangoon, egg drop soup, egg noodle with chicken, mongolian beef, orange chicken, and chicken Katsu and it was all delicious!! We've also had their sushi and it's excellent as well. Friendly staff, and nice indoor seating. Would recommend to others!
google avatar

Karina C.

Yelp
I have never had a bad experience here. The staff is always very friendly. The food always comes out as ordered. The restaurant is usually quiet, but welcoming! Definitely a favorite sushi spot in town!

Zyahna H.

Yelp
The sushi was good but small portions for price. The crab rangoons were really wet and sweet..almost like oil. And the egg drop soup is not recommended. It's got the consistency and looks like mucus. Not edible.
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
Went there for lunch around 1:00pm. We waited and waited and waited for someone to greet us and take us to a table. To add context, the restaurant was mostly empty with only one table of diners.
google avatar

Shanna G.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally had the opportunity to. Kind of strange that we were the only table there during peak lunchtime hours. Our server was attentive but brought the wonton soup out after the sushi. Overall our meal was just okay for what we paid for it. Probably the worst crab wontons I have ever had. The cheese was grainy and the filling was way too sweet. Pad Thai was just okay as well, more on the sweet side and the chicken was too dry and old tasting. I missed some of the accoutrements that normally come with pad Thai like sprouts and green onion. Just rather plain and sweet. My boyfriend had the ramen and while he liked the pork he said he has had better ramen. Not bad but not the best. Prices should reflect that better. Eight dollars for a California roll?

Aliyah A.

Yelp
Food wasn't that good. I got the crab wontons with a weird texture, crunchy and mushy. Then the Asuka roll with an uneven spread of ingredients. Service was slow with only server/host working, but there was only 2 people in the restaurant. Beautiful on the inside, but won't be returning.

Yelp
I am giving one star for the absolute atrocity of their service. If you like average curry and sushi with a side of insults from staff- this is the place for you! This was my husband and my last date before welcoming our 4th child, a boy next week. I am noticeably pregnant and in my last week of carrying. After ordering our meal this is the conversation with the OWNER. "It's a boy?" "Yes how did you know?" "Because when you are having a boy you are not pretty and when you are having a girl you are pretty." Not only did he directly insult me, but he repeated himself several times loudly. There was no reading between the lines- he repeatedly drilled in that I am "not pretty" and if I were having a girl I would be much prettier. I thought I was being pranked. To add insult to injury he chased us out of the building yelling that he did not mean I am ugly, it's just that I'm not pretty because I'm having a boy. I have never been more humiliated in my life. So, if you want your confidence knocked down several notches and are keen on personal insults, this is the place for you!

Yelp
When I asked for a house salad with just cucumbers and carrots.. I didn't know I had to tell them Lettuce too.... How do you make a salad without LETTUCE!! Uuugghhh, So Disappointed!!

Rashawn M.

Yelp
My experience here is amazing. All the requests I have asked for was done with great timing and diligence. my first time and definitely recommend the crew. The atmosphere is also great and wouldn't next it from the outside. The food is definitely amazing aside from all. The cheesecake is what got me going ! Thank you for the your business !

Yelp
I've eaten at Black Ginger a few times, me and a date went there on a whim after being in the area and we were not disappointed! The service was great as well as the food, I really love the fried rice. It's the best I've tasted in the area so far. It is a bit expensive but well worth it for a nice upscale intimate dining experience.

Yelp
Updating my review because last night was my first time back at Black Ginger in a few months and my first time dining inside. I discovered Black Ginger in 2020, in the height of the pandemic. It was a restaurant in the Triad that I supported often by ordering takeout. Our server was friendly and refilled our drinks often. Food didn't take too long to come out either and everything tasted nice and fresh. The sushi was pretty much the same dine in vs takeout but the crispy crab Rangoons were SO much better last night compared to when I've ordered them to go. Shocking? No, not at all. Obviously they were extra crunchy and hot when we got to eat them right away. I really enjoyed them. Erik and I split a boat of sushi which consisted of the: TNT, black ginger, Carolina, Dolley Madison, meet me in the middle, and tarantula rolls. All were tasty but, as always, the Carolina was my favorite. I liked the crisp crunch that the jalapeño gave to the TNT roll, too. I also ordered a couple rolls and a sashimi sampler to go. Still one of my favorite sushi spots in Greensboro!

Yelp
Came in unexpectedly for dinner tonight, and it was a pleasure! Excellent sushi and the friendly service was a perfect touch to the evening!

Yelp
Just left and had a less than pleasurable experience at Black Ginger. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!! Short version- food: meh it's okay, service: awful, ambience; chill vibes Let's start with the food, the crab Rangoon's I ordered were not appetizing at all. They were Luke warm and very oily. Not tasty! I don't make a habit of complaining during my dining experiences because I acknowledge all the people apart of the process, but I really did not like the crab Rangoons and couldn't ignore it. I only ate 1 and when I politely told the waiter that I didn't like them and would like something else or them re-made, he caught an attitude with me and refused at first. He told me that everyone likes them so I would have to pay for them anyway even if I didn't want them. He finally decided to abruptly take them back to the kitchen with an attitude. Upon his return he slammed the plate of Rangoons on the table and walked off without speaking. After we determined we would try to stay positive and enjoy the rest of our food despite the employees terrible energy, he refused to come back to our table to refill water, check on us, or anything. Even when paying the bill, and wishing him a blessed day, I was only returned with snarky comments and eye rolls. My mom and I couldn't believe how rude he was. On another note... The sushi was decent, nothing to brag about, but it will definitely satisfy a sushi craving if it's your only option. The sushi was presented nicely and tasted okay. The price was typical for what I'd usually pay, but I'm used to better quality. I WILL NOT be returning to Black Ginger.

Yelp
Always try to be hungry when so know I will drive by this place!!!! The Dolley Madison Roll is my absolute favorite!!!! Although, I have enjoyed every roll I have tried...

Yelp
The ambiance is amazing great decor and plating and good food the sushi bar is my favorite highly recommend

Yelp
I stopped by Black Ginger for a late lunch after looking up places to get sushi nearby. Between our table we had steamed dumplings, 2 sushi rolls, and a teriyaki stir fry plate. My shrimp tempura roll was good, but not great. The stir fry plate had an odd aftertaste. And the other sushi roll which was a 'specialty roll' was smaller than mine. While the staff were nice and attentive (we were also the only ones there), I don't think I'll go back. The quality of the food didn't match the high price tags.

Yelp
After a long work week I was really craving some comfort food, and sushi was what I wanted. I also wanted to try somewhere new, so my husband and I decided on Black Ginger. I'm so glad we did, because their Dolley Madison Roll is my new all time favorite sushi roll! It has tuna and cream cheese and then topped with spicy crab, eel sauce and spicy Mayo. It's deep fried and has a light and airy crunch to it. I can't say enough as it was just that good! We got the Crab Rangoon and Bang Bang Shrimp as appetizers and both were delicious. I love spicy food, so the shrimp was my favorite. I could've used a little more heat, but it was a good medium for my husband and I, since he doesn't like his food as spicy as I do. My husband opted for the hibachi chicken, which I had to sample! The chicken was seasoned perfectly. Our waiter was so nice and checked on us often to see if we needed anything. We really enjoyed our first dining experience at Black Ginger!

Kristel A.

Yelp
I ate green curry with chicken! It was delicious!! :) great service! Will be coming back soon with friends!

Yelp
The sushi was so fresh and it was made quickly! The staff were very friendly and helpful! I'll definitely be going back soon!

Yelp
I've been coming here for a long time now with friends and family , they owners and staff are always very friendly and the food is amazing. Sweet heart rolls are my favorite. Very clean place with good music .

Yelp
This restaurant has consistently delicious sushi, and well Deserving of 4 stars. This review is based on food, service, cleanliness, atmosphere, and value. I've only had a few things other than sushi here, but I've had a ton of their specialty rolls. They are all fresh and delicious! The service is always fast and friendly. The dining room has been clean for every visit, and the atmosphere is nice and comfortable. I think the prices have gone up recently, so that hurts a little. 3.5 stars for the value, but I'll round up to 4 stars for the consistency. The fat belly and double decker are both great!
google avatar

Gail C.

Yelp
Who knew I was going to have company and they would ask for sushi. I have just eaten sushi for 6 days in a row. This by far is the best. Loved the service and the fresh taste. One problem i have seen this week is that the sushi starts to unravel. These did not. I plan to be back next time I am in the mood. Given my recent record, that could be tomorrow.

Yelp
After craving sushi for a few weeks, I decided on lunch from Black Ginger. My order consisted of miso soup (which was great), a tarantula roll & Two Buddies. All of the items ordered were delicious and the sushi was fresh. I will return to dine-in for dinner and explore more options on the menu. Great choice.

Brenda B.

Yelp
yummmmmy.. love their food /service & atmosphere.. good sized portions & decent prices..

Yelp
Wonderful sushi. Always fresh and delicious. Ramen is best in Greensboro. Authentic Japanese ingredients. Wonderful selection of rolls. Other things for non sushi eaters as well.

Yelp
For the second time in less than a week, I sampled the food at this relative newbie. My initiate exposure to this restaurant was a bit of a mixed bag with the down side being primarily in the service area, though there was a sense that value could be an issue here. But I want this restaurant to serve up some good Chinese dishes, it is so very close to where I live, and I do like well prepared Chinese dishes, Americanized or "authentic". I attempted to avoid the service problem by ordering delivery from Door Dash (if you have not tried them, you should - IMHO they set the delivery standard), and stayed strictly on the Chinese/American side of the menu, with two of the standards I use to judge the overall quality of the food offered. The two are Mongolian Beef ($18), and Kung Pao Chicken ($15.60),and threw in Chicken Wings (8 for $10.80, a bit high I think),and Clear Onion Soup ($3.50). Well this didn't go as I had hoped. Both the Mongolian Beef and the Kung Pao Chicken were not at all what I'd hoped for - too much sauce, overly sweet, Broccoli everywhere. The wings and soup were just OK, and the Fried Rice was dreadfully bland. White rice and crunchies for the soup were good, peanuts for the Kung Pao were not nearly fresh! The food was very average at best, and the value was indeed just not there - $18 for the quality and quantity of Mongolian Beef I received is outrageous, everything else followed that theme - 8 wings for $10.50 is awful, as well - 10 wings at Golden Dragon goes for $7.85 and they are probably the best in town. Kung Pao Chicken at Golden Wok is $8.95, and the portion is at least equal, and the quality in no contest! Golden Wok has a Spicy Beef dish very close to Mongolian Beef for $9.25, and again don't get me started on the quality issue! Maybe the sushi, etc here is worth the cost, and I'm not the least bit sure of that, but the items I tried on this night were poor in quality and value.

Yelp
I had a great lunch experience at this new asian fusion restaurant in Greensboro! The food was really great, the restaurant itself was spotlessly clean with friendly service, and I certainly couldn't get Bento-ut of shape over the value of their Bento boxes at lunch. I went with several coworkers for a birthday lunch, none of us had been before. We started with an appetizer of veggie tempura. It was a nice sized portion with a great variety of delicately fried veggies. In general, all the fried things they do here seem to just have the perfect amount of breading. For lunch, I had a chicken katsu bento box... and seriously, it was the best chicken katsu I have ever had. The chicken under the breading couldn't have been more perfectly cooked, and the breading again was light and crispy. This came with some more of their wonderful veggie tempura, some rice, side salad, a couple of dumplings, and two pieces of a very tasty spicy tuna roll, all for ten bucks. Can't beat that. I'll definitely be coming back here again, it may even be added to my regular lunch rotation. Keep it up Black Ginger!

Yelp
The wait staffs are friendly and provided great service. We ordered ramen, too salty (the broth) and had to asked to add more broth or hot water to water it down. (not sure what they did, but the second time our server brought it out, it tasted a little better. The sushi (we ordered the Dolly Madison) definitely not the best, all I tasted is the cream cheese and the battered.

Lisa M.

Yelp
My fiancé and I came here on a special date night and were pleasantly surprised. The sushi was seriously delicious and very fresh. I truly enjoyed the different special rolls and combinations of fish. I'm from a big city and have had my share of inventive and fresh sushi. I can tell that this place was probably hopping pre-COVID times. I HIGHLY recommend folks stop in if you haven't already!

Yelp
(4+ stars if you stick to sushi, 3.5 otherwise) I was surprised and disappointed when Chinese Kitchen abruptly closed as it was one of Greensboro's better Chinese takeout spots. Black Ginger opened quickly in its stead late last month and while the concept is different, it is a worthy inheritor of this location. For the unfamiliar, Black Ginger isn't visible from Dolley Madison Road proper. It instead may be accessed via Tomahawk, Mapleleaf, or Milner Drives. For those who know the spot from its Chinese Kitchen days, the interior has been pleasantly refreshed. New booths and better lighting make for a clean, bright, and contemporary space. Black Ginger's menu skews Japanese. Bento boxes, miso, and an impressively large sushi menu (including deep fried rolls) are among the offerings. However, there are also Thai curries and a few Chinese standards (Kung Pao and orange chickens and Mongolian beef). Vegetarians won't be put out trying to eat here, either. For our first visit, my wife and I went with a chicken bento box and a steak house fried rice respectively and split a tornado roll. The tornado roll, a fried sushi concoction featuring spicy tuna, cream cheese, pineapples, jalapenos, and a wasabi cream sauce, was easily the highlight of the meal. It was crispy, the flavors balanced nicely (my wife, who hates wasabi, found no complaint with the sauce), and there was plenty of it to go around. Sushi definitely seems to be Black Ginger's strength, and their other rolls merit future investigation. The rest of the food was more uneven. The bento box included a nice salad with a ginger dressing that featured hints of citrus. Accompanying gyoza (fried unless you request otherwise) and cucumber roll were fine, but the chicken was a bit rubbery. The steak fried rice offered a welcome medley of vegetables (corn, peas, carrots, and onions) and made for perfectly satisfying comfort food though I would hesitate to call it exemplary. What is exemplary is Black Ginger's service. My wife and I were greeted warmly upon entry, our server capably answered questions and brought food out with a smile, and staff checked on us throughout our meal to ensure that we were enjoying everything. For the quality and quantity offered, Black Ginger's pricing represents a good value. Bento boxes (protein, vegetables, sushi, gyoza, salad, and rice) range from $9 to $12 depending on the protein, and many entrees are priced about the same. A lot of the fried and specialty sushi rolls go for around $12, including the tornado. Given how recently the restaurant opened, Black Ginger is off to a good start. Some dishes are stronger than others, but stellar service and a bountiful sushi menu make it worth trying. Now if only they'll add cold sesame noodles.

Yelp
This place is so quiet and lowkey, it's perfect for a quick sit down with friends. The servers don't hassle you or rush you and they were so nice. Try the teriyaki salmon, you won't regret it!
google avatar

Libby H.

Yelp
Great service and awesome sushi...I recommend the gyoza also! The double decker tuna and dollywood roll are great! We haven't gone out since Covid so it was tough to find somewhere to eat with a dine in option... the restaurant was clean the staff was friendly and they had plenty of hand sanitizer for those that are worried

JONATHON S.

Yelp
Horrible food worse service in years and nobody was there unbelievable can't believe this place is still open
google avatar

Rebecca H.

Yelp
Our go to date spot- it's never busy and the food is always good. We have tried all of their specialty rolls on the menu and haven't had one that we really disliked. The menu does have the most popular Asian dishes, so if sushi isn't for you, don't worry they have other optiond. The staff is always friendly and tries hard to make sure you are satisfied. I also like how clean the restaurant is. The bathroom has never been dirty during my visits. I would really recommend this place to anyone.

Monica F.

Yelp
Great food service was great! Will definitely go back went with my son who has taken his friends to eat there as well
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
Black Ginger is a local delicacy with some fantastic ramen and sushi. Food may take a little long to come out but it's only because it's prepared so fresh. Check it out next time you're in town.

Yelp
I like the cleanliness and the menu and politeness. The food was good. I had spicy crab and salmon belly and my wife had snow white roll and surf n turf roll. We both liked what we recvd, but I found her s n t a little strange for sushi. My disappointment was the staff and their lack of knowledge. Did not know what "dry" sake was or even meant. He was so polite and when asked howlomg he has been working there he said three years. I also asked if someone else could help with my sake selection and he said nobody else knows either. BTW, I know, tough times getting things these days, but they were out of half of the sake. Biggest, too, mostly sweet. Could use some ni e dry sake selection. Re.ember I said nice menu - dry k menu was very nice, too. Good service! My fav was we went to two other places and they were booked. It was Friday night at six mid-winter 22. This place not only had room for us we especially liked how quiet it was. Now that was a change...
google avatar

Bri B.

Yelp
Delicious. I wish we were able to take the boat home. Very quiet place if you just want to stop and eat sushi. Definitely loved the boat. Would have been a nice give away. Not very expensive. Nice place inside and nice workers. Not really great on conversations or recommendations but it was the presentation that got me
google avatar

Kai H.

Yelp
Interior is minimal and music was ok, not what I expected, service was average. Food was really good, got 1 sushi roll and Ramen, Tonkatsu and added the chili oil. Overall good experience and would try again and suggest to others.

Sara H.

Yelp
Ordered takeout. This is a joke. I ordered two "specialty rolls" $15-$17 each and I received fun-sized sushi. The quality does not make up for it. Photo pictured with hand for size reference.

Nicole L.

Yelp
Holy Shrinkflation! We ordered 3 rolls with our take out today, and they were COMICALLY TINY! Like the center of the sushi was the size of a quarter! We've been eating here for years and thought of their sushi as one of the best, but NO LONGER! Two rolls are usually enough for an average person right? But two for me and one for my daughter, and we were still starving! No way will we pay $14 per roll for that ridiculously tiny sushi. Sorry Black Ginger, you really let us down!
