Black Gold

Wow! What a trendy little cafe this place was, very busy so obviously very popular. We were welcomed in for some breakfast and coffee. We loved the way they had communal style benches inside, and you are sitting next to strangers, kind of brings out the community spirit I felt. The menu was modern and very exciting, all the cafe classics, plus a few more interesting options too. The Green fritters I ordered were very good, I opted for the poached egg option plus a side of bacon. So very simple yet works so well. The missus ordered the scrambled eggs on Sourdough but felt the eggs were still just a little to wet for her liking, another 10 seconds in the pan and they would have been sensational, I thought their taste was perfect regardless. Coffee was next level as we were expecting being Melbourne and all. Very enjoyable breakfast.

Interesting experience here - waited at the outdoor table for ages with no service, even though the waitresses saw us sitting there. I went inside to get some menus and see if I could order coffees but was dismissed with a 'we have table service' type of response 😂 The waitresses were actually quite lovely just a very bizzarre waiting period at the start. Got the ham toastie & a coffee, which were both nice. Toastie could have had a bit more flavour for $16.50 but not bad - maybe just a bit more ham/saltiness to balance the mozzarella.

The sandwiches here were good but nothing special. From reading alot of Insta reviews was defs sucked in to coming and altho the sandwiches were decent they weren’t my favourite. I also asked to change something on my sandwich 1 minute from ordering it (take out the avo or something) and they said it had already been or in the process of being made. I had to wait 20 minutes after that for my sandwich without the change made.

I can’t believe how long it’s taken me to write a review for my favourite caffe in Melbourne! However with it being part of my daily ritual, whether I’m getting a coffee, one of their famous toasties or the pumpkin salad with chicken. I thought it was about time to share my experience ☺️ Personally I would love to thank the owner (Aisha) and all of her amazing staff (Alana, Tai, Shantha, El, Natalie and Henry). I’ve never once encountered a bad experience with any of them, they’re all so lovely, personable, with amazing customer service and really make it a priority to remember your name, order and to get to know you personally and the local community! Personally it’s the highlight of my day, getting my usual coffee order from them every morning, and I’ve also enjoyed getting to know everyone ☺️ Their coffee and food never disappoints, with it always being reliable and consistent. In terms of quality, flavour and priority with how quickly they are able to get your order to you. Especially when they’re busy (So always - which speaks volumes about Aisha’s caffe). The set up is beautiful, with the perfect little window for take away orders, or beautiful outdoor tables and benches with umbrellas for a sunny day, or a nice cozy indoor layout with circular tables and one long bench (perfect for chit chatting to those beside you or across from you). Overall I couldn’t recommend Black Gold enough. They’ve built a lovely community and it’s nice to see familiar faces daily, including some furry friends (who are definitely there for the daily treats). I rave about it to everyone, as I want others to share the same experience that I’ve been fortunate enough to have with the team! Also keep an eye out for Alana’s funny one liners, or Tai if you don’t want him to encourage your shopping habits x

Came on a Saturday morning for breakfast, had the beef eggs benedict from the specials menu and it did not disappoint. Great coffee and friendly staff, a good spot for breakfast/brunch

The food was so amazing, the pancakes is must haves, toasties were delicious, we had mushroom ones. The staff were so friendly and nice, love every bit of it. Although I did not like the coffee , maybe I did not order the right one, but it was not very strong.

BEST TOASTIE I’VE HAD IN MELBOURNE! My partner and I ordered the Reuben (made of smoked brisket pastrami) and the Spicy Tuna. The fillings were so generous and the flavours were incredibly balanced. The Reuben had the right ratio of sauerkraut and meat while the jalapeño slices in the Spicy Tuna was a nice touch. Highly highly recommend!

Delicious coffee - the house blend was described as Maple and you could really taste it. The Reuben was also fantastic, it lived up to the hype!
