I came here with some friends and we had the best time. The vibe is super chill, the bartender is really nice, and the food… just wow. Everything was delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. You can tell they really care about what they’re serving. We loved the fried calamari , and the drinks were also on point. Definitely a place I’ll be coming back to. Good energy, great food, and even better company. Highly recommend!

Jonathan is the best bartender! From the moment we opened the door his bright and inviting smile greeted us. Naturally, he was inclusive, attentive, and appreciative of each and every patron. We had a wonderful lazy Saturday afternoon with him and he convinced us to stay for two more rounds because he created the vibes with his energy, music, and kindness. Everyone needs to come to the Black Hound to get a fabulous cocktail made by Jonathan, because he genuinely cares!

Camila is a true artist behind the bar. Her skill in crafting custom cocktails and attention to detail is impressive. Highly recommended! 👏

This is one of the best places I’ve ever been to. I’m so glad to be able to call myself a regular here! From the amazing ambiance, to the amazing food, amazing staff, amazing music, and don’t even get me started on how amazing the drinks are. Jeimison the bartender that’s usually here literally has made me the best drinks I’ve ever had in my life and truly adjusts the drinks to my favorite flavors and the exact taste I want! He has literally made me my favorite drinks I’ve ever had and named them after me. My birthday just recently passed and they sung to me and brought me a piece of birthday cake. Jeimison even made me my own gorgeous and delicious birthday drink. I’m so happy to have found this place and I will recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Amazing place! The atmosphere is relaxed and perfect for a couple or with friends. Camila the bartender was very friendly, efficient and beautiful, making our visit a very pleasant experience. Undoubtedly, one of the best bar in NYC.

I admit, my hackles were already up with this place because it advertised itself as a speakeasy and yet I was able to identify it from a block or two away. This place would NEVER survive a single night during the era of Prohibition. I decided to put those concerns to the side though and stopped by on Friday night with my Skipper and Old Man Chum for a few drinks right when the place opened at 5PM. It was predictably empty when we showed up and there was only a smattering of customers when we left a little less than two hours later - the Financial District is very hit or miss crowd-wise on a Friday. The bar/restaurant next door (Treadwell Park) was bustling, so the preference was clear. And the customers over there couldn't claim they didn't know this place was here, because it's not really a speakeasy. Okay, I'm done complaining about that. Onward. The vibe in here is kind of weird, in my opinion. It felt almost like a sterile hotel bar with honestly not a ton of personality. There were a lot of pieces of furniture that were noticeably dinged up, and it was kind of drabby. That said (and part of this for sure was because it wasn't busy), we were easily able to secure some comfortable seating in the back room on couches that allowed us to lounge and look at each other, so arguably that's all you really need here. I didn't do a massive deep dive on the history of this location, but to me it felt like this wasn't its original vibe or scheme, especially since the bathroom situation required you to go through a door marked 'Employees Only' into the public space of Treadwell Park next door to use THEIR bathroom (which had a frighteningly loose toilet seat that was made scarier by the ingestion of two cocktails). Our waiter was VERY nice and accommodating. (The Skipper mentioned it several times, and she was correct to do so.) He was the only person up front that I saw, so he had to monitor the bar situation as well as duck back to our area a few times to check in. I don't recall having to aggressively search him out for anything, and when we needed to leave, it was easy/quick to do so. I ended up ordering two cocktails, both of which caught my eye during my online recon - the Purple Rain and the Brown Sugar Smoked Old Fashioned. Two very different drinks, and I had very different opinions on them. The Purple Rain had one of my favorite cocktail chum accompaniments, egg whites. I like them because they give the texture of a drink both a frothy and smooth vibe, but I thought the egg whites were likely shaken too aggressively prior to insertion because the froth was pretty intense and it actually took a bit of an effort to locate the drink underneath. It's also possible that because of that, I ended up with a naughty version of a milk mustache. The drink itself was pretty eh; I think they relied too heavily on tartier fruit flavors, so the overall result was more akin to Dimetapp. The Old Fashioned was the highlight though, with a heavy emphasis on the smoke and the sweet, which to me is the perfect way to pair the bourbon. Very scrumptious. This one was just okay for me. The cocktail list isn't particularly extensive nor innovative, and nothing here really stood out to me that distinguished Black Hound from a myriad of other establishments in the area. I'd recommend Treadwell Park as an alternative, but as mentioned, my only direct experience in there involved me almost falling into their toilet.

Best drinks in BPC! French 75 and Crimson Reverie were soooo good. Camila is the best bartender. Def worth coming

Google
This place is very chill, chic and able to have a good conversation with your colleagues and friends, great food and stunning craft cocktail! Romantic with the ambience and music, intimate place to take your other half on a date here. Jameson, and the rest of the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend this new hidden gem in FiDi, 10/10

Yelp
Camila is the best ever! I came here by myself just for a quick drink and go but I needed up having one of the best nights ever! Camila made me feel so contable and makes such good drinks.

Jenna L.

Yelp
My friend leaned over and accidentally caught her hair on fire and the server who witnessed this wanted to explain the drinks (we ordered classics not specialty cocktails! Why do those need an explanation?!). No sympathy, not even polite concern much less switching tables (only 1 table was occupied). Bad vibes from this bar, not the speakeasy they call themselves. Treadwell park next door might be a better choice

Yelp
The bartender here is a an artist. Jeimison is one of the best mixologists I know is New York. Thank you man!! Always a pleasure coming back here.

Yelp
Lovely place for a first time date or just a casual date with your lady, would definitely recommend this location. Great location for a walk after, wonderful choices for happy hour after work. Bartender is lovely and friendly; she had great recommendations. Camilla was wonderful, thank you for the definition for the sunflower flower.

Yelp
I was in the area and looked for a nice spot after work with some friends and the black hound came up. The photos and the reviews on Yelp were more than enough to make me want to check this place out. The interior is absolutely beautiful! Service was fantastic. The bartender made me a drink out of the menu, he was courteous and patient explaining the drinks with details. If you want a very cool spot for after work drinks check this place out!!!

Yelp
This is a fantastic bar. Great vibes and great drinks. Ask for Camila, tremendous hospitality.

Yelp
Amazing staff!!!! Super friendly conversations and we're from Texas, so that's saying a lot. They welcomed us which I know isn't common in the east coast. Their drinks were tasteful! Nice comfy little spot. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area. Great for conversations. They gave us some recommendations on what to do while in NYC! Please stop by! From your Friendly Texan!

Yelp
If you wanna find a place for hang out with your friends, you need to visit Black Hound. I really loved this bar, no just the drinks were awesome, the food was delicious, and the service was completely amazing, our bartender was so patient and nicely with us, also he made us new cocktails that they have for this season!! Don't forget to bring your friends here!

Yelp
The Bartenders are very polite, lively and kind. The drinks are always cold and the cocktails are wonderful. A great environment to meet friends is for dates because the environment is very pleasant.

Yelp
I came here Thursday night with my friends and sat at the bar. Our bartender Jeimison was overall amazing. He was super attentive and we had a great time. I was a little indecisive and he quickly figured out what I liked to drink and made me and my friends awesome cocktails. We ordered some small bites too, and everything was delicious. Super satisfied with the service, really good drinks and such a friendly staff. I will definitely come back soon!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Very nice staff!! So friendly and accommodating I asked for two off menu items and they were able to make great drinks for my friend and I First I asked for green tea shots. The bartender was pretty honest in saying that they didn't have all the usual ingredients but told me exactly how she would make it. Her result was great! Then, I had the aperol spritz. Very large amount and well worth it! Tasted good and hard to wake up the next day haha

Yelp
A delicious cocktail crafted by the ever-delightful Jenny, just for me!!! When it comes to cocktails, there are particular flavours I particularly love, such as Elderflower - think St. Germain - and ginger, just to name two, and that's what I told Jenny and she made this delicious concoction for me! Also, as a nearby resident and regular, I have always adored this place: it's pretty, it's cozy, it's classy, and all the staff are absolutely wonderful. If you have not been here, you're totally missing out!!! Go! Now! You'll thank me later. Its also great date place with a romantic atmosphere. Aaaand they have delicious snacks, so check out the menu!

Yelp
The description of this bar sounded wonderful, so at 10:30 PM we trekked from our hotel to try and find the Black Hound. After a confusing walk in and out of the Hudson River Park, we finally found the Black Hound. The bar was full with a group of people having a good time. The bartender looked at us and shouted out, "we're closed." Closed with a full contingent of people? Nonsense! He just didn't want tourists, or older people, or folks who looked like the people who claim to be the first monotheistic religion, even though there's a museum celebrating that religion very close by. It was myopic prejudice. We walked out after the embarrassment and shame felt after being kicked out of a bar. After wandering for 30 minutes, we found the Hideaway, a welcoming bar, that made us feel good. The message provided by the Black Hound was don't come here if you're a tourist, older, and just not cool enough. I would avoid this bar unless you want to catch an incurable disease. It is an elitist joint with nothing to back up it's attitude. Hopefully bars like the Black Hound will recognize that exclusivity doesn't have to be prejudiced , anti-semethic, or myopic. The Black Hound is the epitome of fascism. Something to be avoided.

Yelp
Jonatas is the best bar tender! He knows just what to recommend based on your preference. Our drinks were great all night! Highly recommend this place for drinks after dinner

Brian B.

Yelp
I have been here several times and I never leave this place happier than when I came in. Service-people lack empathy and customer service skills. It feels very one sided and uncomfortable to be a customer here. Apparently only emotionally unavailable jerks are hired at this location. I would not suggest eating here if you want to have a decent night.
google avatar

Samantha M.

Yelp
Great neighborhood place to enjoy a glass of wine. Nice back room as well would be good for a small party if they rent it out.
google avatar

Heidi R.

Yelp
I loved this cozy place. The food and the mixed cocktails were delicious. I ordered the charcuterie board, and it was perfect with wine. You must try the classic old-fashioned. I sat at the bar, and the bartender, Jennifer, was so bubbly and attentive. She made my night incredibly fun. Thank you, Jennifer for the attention. I will definitely return to this place.

Mey S.

Yelp
The place is so intimate, comfy, and reserved. Music has the perfect tone and my favorites are always drinks, thanks to all guys I served, who are working with so much sympathy.
google avatar

Ali L.

Yelp
Having your favorite bartender of the local neighborhood bar that you visit frequently is a forgotten art. Ezra will make you anything you feel like having, so long as you just let him know your spirit preference and mood. He is truly fantastic. Their GM Ridvan checks on my group often, and always makes sure everything is goon Bites are great, and they now have a happy hour! I believe food, specialty cocktails, and wine are all on it. Apparently they are expanding their wine list soon too! Supporting businesses like this are so important. I will be back soon!!!

Yelp
Been living in BPC for 5 years. Only have gone to the Black Hound a couple of times. The last couple of times, I have come when Nacho is working and this is now my favorite place in the neighborhood. As there were a few people gathered together tonight, each person knew Nacho by name. The remarkable part of the night was the fact that each person asked the bartender to make a drink to their taste rather than order. Some would ask for a drink with a particular liquor - whiskey or rum - others would order according to taste - "something that tastes like..." Tonight I asked for something different - and he made a Jardin de los Patos - delicious and light and unlike anything I'd had to drink before. If you live in the neighborhood, you have to go. Great fun. Great cocktails!
google avatar

Cierra C.

Yelp
The perfect place to grab a drink and a bite to eat. Did I mention that they have Happy Hour from 5pm - 7pm Tuesdays - Fridays. Set in the Financial District, this place has everything one might need for an intimate setting yet fun and lively environment. The servers and bartender provide excellent service as well as suggestions! They never steered ya girl wrong. The music is a VIBE. Trust me when I say that it's a mixture of throwbacks and feel goods that put you in the mood. They offer a wide range of cocktails and food with something for everyone on the menu. Be sure to stop over today!
google avatar

Julian C.

Yelp
Good vibes. Good music. Thoroughly enjoyed my night. Bartenders were very outgoing and accommodated us well.

Patricia L.

Yelp
I was at this bar last Friday, the bartender was very kind in explaining what the best drink was and the food was spectacular. I highly recommend the bar, besides the music was very good and the service was incredible.
google avatar

Anthony M.

Yelp
Amazing experience here. The bar tenders were great mixologists and very well versed in their craft. After a few rounds they even let us try some of the off menu drinks they are working on for the summer: Black one sugar Maximum security Tiki
google avatar

Joshua B.

Yelp
Best cocktails downtown! Love the vibe, atmosphere. Nacho not only made amazing drinks but also taught us all about the history of the Gin and Rum and it was incredibly fascinating. Can't wait to go back.

Diana V.

Yelp
First and foremost , me and my friends walked in not expecting to be treated so exquisitely. The bartenders , Omar and Jeniffer were absolutely amazing!!!! They had us laughing, not to mention they were so welcoming and had great customer service. They felt like good friends and were not from the city . Definitely recommend, prices are reasonable, the aesthetic is great , the music is too and it feels comfy as well. Do not regret wandering the streets and ending up here, best thing me and my friends did. We left at closing time so that should tell you something.
google avatar

Kathleen T.

Yelp
Quinn, Rebecca, & Larissa are the best bartenders!!! It was my sister's birthday and they went above and beyond with making her feel special. The ginger drink Quinn created for us needs to be put on the menu because it was spectacular! It was authentic and warm just like the bartenders who created it for us. Thank you so much!

Abdullah K.

Yelp
Been coming here since their reopening, and I'm so Glad they're open again. Their scotch selection is fantastic and the staff is so much fun to get to know, I definitely recommend!

Yelp
An old-time bar with some new flavor I randomly stopped by this bar to grab a few cocktails before seeing a move. The atmospher of The Black Hound is very inviting the bartenders (the married couple), who were working on Jan. 12, 2017, were great!!!! Both of them were very efficient and friendly .The bar has an interesting list of cocktails (15 dollars) that would fit the needs of anyone's palette. Although the bar had an interesting list of specialty cocktails, I went with a Hendricks martini. . . I just wanted booze with no filler ;) The martini was prepared perfectly (I had three of them) and I'm very particular about my 'tini's. Even though I do not venture to the far West side, I have to remember check out this place again . . . maybe grab a bite to eat too.
google avatar

Rick H.

Yelp
Not all that...the bartender made my Manhattan like an Old Fashioned. Didn't know what Rye they had and did not look for what was available. Limited bottle selection for a "cocktail bar." In summary, my drink would have been good if I were at Applebee's
google avatar

Josue V.

Yelp
Great service! Let the bartender guide you with your drink order. Nacho is a wiz! Manager is a good guy too! They take care of their customers.

John L.

Yelp
Horrible service since Ezra left a couple months ago. In Post Covid they had a mixologist Ezra. He left and now they have novice bartenders. And rude ones. I won't go back even though I live in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Linan C.

Yelp
This is definitely a romantic place to grab a drink with your date. There is a lounge with comfy sofas and their drinks are pretty good! I love the ambiance and the music here. If you happen to be around Battery Park and need a place to hang out, grab a drink, and nibble on a small snack, this is the spot! It might get a little busier as the night progresses but definitely worth a try!
google avatar

Rachel A.

Yelp
Love this place.great bartender (Carl). Drinks are amazing. Apps are good (artichoke dip and the toast was fantastic) Good for pre dinner or after.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by for an end of the night drink after date night with the bf. I wish we had arrived earlier! Food - good. Drinks - delicious! My cocktail was unique and tasty. And best of all was out server Ezra - easy to talk to but not too chatty. A+. Looking forward to going back.

Yelp
Came here randomly with friends it's a quaint place, we had a bartender named Lauren she's the best!! Drinks were made to perfection. It's always scary when you take on a new place but man Lauren the bartender you are the best. The vibe of the place will give you a romantic vibe, or a Abercrombie vibe. It's dark. Hence the name back hound. Just In case you are shocked

Akrati J.

Yelp
I have been here before, but we came here again on Halloween night since we wanted to go to a place where we could get good craft cocktails without having to worry about waiting in a line. Not to mentioned its walking distance from my apartment. From the outside, it looks like a quite unassuming bar but I would recommend trying out this place if you find yourself in the Battery Park area. It has an intimate ambiance, I prefer sitting in the back whether they have comfortable lounge chairs. The drinks menu is eclectic and has a variety of different craft cocktails. Also, they are more than happy to make you something if you have something particular in mind. The menu on their website is not updated - they keep updating their drinks from time to time. I got a cachaca based drink with cherry puree and agave - it was delicious, sweet and just slightly strong - just how I like my drinks. My boyfriend ordered a bourbon based drink with came with a glow stick lit straw. We have also tried their food in the past and the food is pretty good too! Since it was my birthday weekend, my friends decided to order shots and we asked the bartender to make whatever he wanted. And he came out with this amazing smoky looking concoction. It turned out to be like a lemon drop - but we all "oo-ed" "aah-ed" given the ingenuity of how the bartender brought out the shots.
google avatar

Phil G.

Yelp
I wanted so much for this to be a good, reliable place. It could, it should but it didn't get there. I liked the cocktail menu and ordered a drink that the bartender considered her favorite. She had to consult another to remember the ingredients. I must have liked the music or perhaps I didn't notice it because on the television, they were showing Ultimate Fighting Championships - yes UFC.

Felipe R.

Yelp
The best place in town, always go there to disconnect form a stressful journey and Ezra (bartender), makes it happen, great recommendations about cocktails and tasty food.

laura a.

Yelp
I'm a regular here, Ezra the bartender is the reason I come back. He keeps my drinks coming and my belly full. I really enjoy coming here, is a great place, best drinks, good music, amazing environment. I highly recommend this place!!
google avatar

Yelp
This review goes out to Mr. Handsome Bartender Michael! The burgers were too big for my mouth! I realize this could be a benefit or a hindrance depending on several factors. Regardless of your burger size preferences, the fries were crispy, light, and delicious! The atmosphere had the class of an upscale old-timey bar with the comfort and intimacy of a nostalgic winter afternoon in a cozy reading room. The best part of my experience was Michael the Handsome Bartender(TM). He didn't skip a beat and made a point to greet us with an upbeat demeanor and friendly jokes. PS: The bottled lion stout is yumtastic!
google avatar

Marina G.

Yelp
I have to say that this was my first time experiencing the flaming glory of Point of No Return - The Black Hound's gin-based and smoked rosemary-infused cocktail, and it instantaneously became my favorite drink. And I don't even like alcohol all that much. I do like creative food a lot, however; and I have to say that the chef's innovative take on seared tuna on a bed of peas and ever so gently spiced passion-fruit sauce as well as sweet-and-sour chicken lollipops were outstanding.

Melina S.

Yelp
An overall great vibe for a relaxing night out. Stephanie recommended a great wine that I hadn't tried before and loved! Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
great place to go for a date, they have a spritz drink on the menu I really enjoyed. food is surprisingly delicious for a bar, and the seating inside is very calming and intimate. if you're looking for a nice reasonably-priced bar with good food, and great music, this is your new spot

Gorkem A.

Yelp
Was in the area for work and decided to stop by for a drink, and a lovely decision at that. Enjoyed the old fashioned speciality cocktail on the menu, and some sliders. Definitely recommend. Prob best happy hour in nyc. $8 drinks. Consider me a regular now.
